Chapter 9 - Errant Son
The lights of Tokyo sped by as Mujinku leapt from roof-top to roof-top. The wind whipped against him, but his bomber jacket offered enough protection. It was the fastest way to travel through the city, and relatively unobtrusive, unless someone chanced to look up at the right time. Feh. Pops travels this way all the time. He glanced at his watch again. 12:15.
Damnit! I'm so, so, so very late. Mujinku could easily remember the last time he'd broken his curfew to see a movie with Koori. “Irresponsible pup who can't keep a promise…” was probably the nicest thing Inuyasha had said during the resulting tirade, along with “An inu-youkai's word is BINDING, damnit!” Yeah, yeah, the honor of the inu-youkai. At least this time I have a better excuse. And that kiss was definitely worth it. A small smile lit the boy's face at the memory.
Mujinku transferred to the sidewalk for the last few blocks, unwilling to tempt his father's wrath at arriving late and by taking the higher route home. He skidded to a halt at the door, noting with a sinking gut that the kitchen lights were still on. Great, they would both be up. I'm sooo very dead. He slipped his watch into his jacket pocket and casually entered the house. He padded through the living room, dropping his jacket onto a chair on his way into the kitchen.
Kagome was sitting at the table, nursing a cup of tea, while Inuyasha paced between the fridge and the sink. “Hey mom, pops, what're you two doing up?” Mujinku tried to inject carelessness and surprise into his tone.
“Waiting for you to get home, pup!” Inuyasha spat out. He kept his voice low, but Mujinku knew from experience that the girls and Shippo were probably still up and listening to every word.
“Why?”
“WHY? You ask why? You- Do- If-” Inuyasha was practically sputtering in rage.
“You're late dear.” Kagome interjected over her mate's rant.
“Am I?” Mujinku glanced at his bare wrist and then at the clock on the wall. “Oh, sorry, I didn't realize it was that late.” That was true, it had only been 12:15 last time he checked, and now it was 12:25.
His father wasn't fooled. “Feh!”
Kagome shot the older hanyou a withering look and then smiled at her son. “I see. Care to tell us what you were doing that kept you out so late and caused you to loose your watch?”
So she wasn't buying it either. Shards. Ok, last ditch effort. Mujinku sighed. “Ok, fine. I was meeting with an old friend of yours.”
“Of ours?” Kagome sounded surprised and Inuyasha stopped pacing. “What are you talking about?”
“Remember that story you told us about how pops got the red Tessaiga?” His parents nodded. “Then the name Shiori should ring a bell?” He smirked at their matching shell-shocked expressions. “That girl I met at the museum was the granddaughter of a certain bat-hanyou whom I met tonight.”
“You met Shiori?” His father sounded frankly skeptical.
“Bat-woman with silver hair and purple eyes? Knew both of your names? Said you saved her from being a slave to the bat-clan's leader? No must be some one else, then.” He heard a soft giggle from the other room, but neither of his parents picked up on it.
“Shiori?” Kagome whispered. “She's still alive?”
“Yeah.”
“Keh.” Kagome turned to stare at her spouse, a look he knew far too well. Inuyasha hastened to calm the anger rising from his mate. “Well, she's a hanyou, not some weak human. Of course she's still alive.”
“Uh-huh.” Kagome turned back to her errant son. “So why are you late?”
“Well, the movie got out slightly later than we thought it would, and then I had to walk Shitenshi home, cause she lives a long way out of town. Then she asked me to come in and meet her grandma, who ended up being Shiori, and we were talking about you two, and- and-” He paused as a yawn caught him off guard, “And then the clock rang 12 and I tried to leave, but I forgot my jacket and had to go back and then I ran home.” Mujinku yawned again.
“Well, it looks like you'd better get to bed.” Kagome smiled tolerantly. “We'll discuss this more in the morning.”
“Like hell we will! We're settling this now!”
“You can't very well call her to confirm his story, they're probably already asleep. We'll discuss it in the morning.” Kagome firmly ended the argument. “Go to bed dear.” She rose and kissed Mujinku's cheek before raising her voice slightly. “You three need to go to bed too!” Three gasps echoed from the other room, followed by the sound of scrambling feet. Kagome winked at her son and then dragged her mate off to bed.
Wow, that went surprisingly well. Now to deal with the brats and the kit.

Heeheehee. Just wait until the morning! :P
Deep Serenity
It isn't a continuation of anything, just bringing in one of my favorite “throw-away characters” from the anime: Shiori. The two kids are 16 and Yasha/Kags are about 25 human and 300/150 respectively in hanyou years.
Thanks again to FYI IY is Mine on FFnet and AT on AFF!

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha *pouts* or any of the other characters. I want to thank Rumiko Takahashi and company for creating such awesome characters for me to write about as I drool with envy at her skillz. ;)
