15 - It's All Fun And Games Until…

Shitenshi and Mujinku crept towards a couple curled up behind a large oak. The boy was whispering random things to the girl, who kept giggling. “Who is that?” Shitenshi asked.

“Sis.” The wicked smile was still plastered on Mujinku's face. “Sis and some boy that pops don't know about. Yet.”

“And he won't know!” A delicate hand shot forward and latched onto Mujinku's sill exposed ear, pinching it lightly between two claws. A low growl broke from his throat.

Instantly, the conversation behind the tree ended and a dog-eared female poked her head out around the trunk. “Tai?”

Mujinku's captor, who looked identical to the other girl, reassured her twin, never loosening her grip on the younger boy. “S'ok, Kuro, I just caught a sneaky little twerp.”

“Let him go.” Shitenshi demanded of Mujinku's captor. She had to have been one of the twins she'd been told of; the family resemblance was uncanny, as was her knowledge of the boy's sensitive ears. Mujinku wasn't squirming at all, obviously worried about the damage her sharp claws could inflict. From the chagrin on his face, it was apparent that this was how many sibling arguments ended.

“Oh? Why would I want to do that?” Taiyuri asked sweetly, facing Shi for the first time. “What do you- oh! A hanyou? Mujinku, you never told us your girlfriend was such a pretty little bat-hanyou.”

“Shove off, Tai. You know about the story of the bat legion, and you overheard me telling mom and pops last night; don't bother denying it.” Her fingers tightened on his ear and the boy fell silent.

“Much better. Now, whatever shall we do with you? We can't have you running off to mom and dad with this information.” Tai appeared to be concentrating hard, pondering the fate of her captive little brother.

“I said, let. Mujinku. Go.” Shi stared strait at the other girl, amethyst eyes flaming, refusing to back down.

“And why should I listen to you?”

“Because I know that Inuyasha and Kagome know where we are, but they said at lunch that you two are grounded.”

The other girl's eyes narrowed, but she released the hostage ear with a grimace. Mujinku smirked and rubbed the offended appendage. “Thanks, Shi.” He turned mocking golden eyes on his older sibling. “So Tai, how'd ya get out?”

“Well Kuro had a date, but thanks to somebody running off his big mouth at breakfast, we thought she'd have to cancel. But then mom said that she and dad were going out with you guys, and that they'd be gone most of the afternoon, so… here we are.”

“Well then it's just too bad that our lunch ended early and mom and pops are on their way home as we speak.”

“What?!” Simultaneous gasps were heard and a mumbled goodbye as the two girls dashed off in a blur of silver.

“Feh.” Mujinku crossed his arms and stalked around the tree, looking for the boy his sister had abandoned, only to find that he had already fled. He sighed and turned back to Shitenshi. “Thanks.”

“No problem. It was my pleasure to play the knight in shining armor and come to the aid of my fair damsel in distress.” She made an over-exaggerated bow and then tweaked his ponytail, giggling when he growled.

“I'm not a sharding damsel, wench!”

“Wench? You sound like a pirate!” Shi giggled harder and they began walking down the path again. “You even have the bandana for it.”

He growled again as he pulled the aforementioned bandana back into place. “It's just something pops would always call mom: wench. I don't know where he got it from.”

“Is he a pirate?” She teased.

“No!” Mujinku tried to storm off, but Shitenshi caught his arm and dragged him back to her side.

“Ok, ok, geeze. You don't need to get all huffy and stuff. I promise I won't mention pirates again.”

They walked in silence for a few minutes until a voice from behind yelled, “Hey, heads up!” Mujinku turned, took one step, and sprang into the air, neatly catching the frisbee that had been headed towards them. A young man in cutoff shorts and a sleeveless shirt ran up. “Thanks man. You're really good at that!”

“Yeah, I've had a lot of practice.” Mujinku winked at Shitenshi.

“Hey, do you wanna play for awhile? The skins team is short a man.”

Mujinku glanced at Shi, who nodded. “Sure!” He fished his ipod and keys out of his pocket and tossed them to Shitenshi before slipping off his shirt and handing it over as well. “You'll be ok?” She nodded again. “Good.” The two teens ran off to join the group of young men playing.

Shi sighed and sat nearby, leaning against a thick tree trunk. She watched the guys run around for a few minutes, laughing at their antics, before digging out her sketchbook and pencils and starting to draw.
