Chapter 24 - Gender Clash

 

“You let him do WHAT???” Kagome barely refrained from slapping one of the two men who stood before her. “You let our son walk into a trap?”

 

Inuyasha at least had the decency to look ashamed. “I did not `let' him do any such thing.” Sesshoumaru huffed.

 

“You didn't try to stop him?” Kagura spoke up from the doorway. Both males whirled to face her as Sesshoumaru's face fell.

 

“Kagura, dear, I didn't know about it at all until-” He stopped abruptly when Inuyasha nudged him.

 

Unfortunately, Kagome caught the slip. “When what?” She demanded.

 

“When OUR son spoke to him and ordered their fathers not to follow or even help.” Kagura interjected.

 

“WHAT?”

 

Inuyasha ducked his head. “But he was already gone by that time!” His reply was a slap that snapped his head to the side. “Oi, wench! This isn't my fault! You're the one who let him out of the house…” Inuyasha stopped when a pulse shook his frame. All four turned as one to the French doors, where the setting sun could clearly be seen.

 

“No!” Kagome sank into a chair.

 

Inuyasha began cursing under his breath as his hair changed to black. He blinked violet eyes, trying to conceal his worry. Sesshoumaru quickly crossed to his liquor tray an d downed a shot of brandy, handing a second to the hanyou.

 

“Go after him.” Kagura's voice was deadly. “I don't care how well you two trained that boy you will leave now.”

 

“This Sesshoumaru-”

 

“This Sesshoumaru will leave before Kagome comes to her senses and tries to kill us.” Inuyasha muttered, grabbing the older male's sleeve and stalking towards the door.

 

“Don't come back until you have Mujinku!” Kagura called after their retreating forms.

“What do you mean he suddenly had black hair?” An icy voice cut through Mujinku's sleepy haze and he glanced up in alarm, careful not to jar the girl in his arms.

 

“I mean one minute he had this freaky silver hair and the next time we checked on him it was black!” Mujinku recognized the second voice as one of the men who had captured him the day before. A tingling in his ears told him that it was only a few minutes from sunrise.

 

“Did he awaken in this time?”

 

“No, he was just starting to wake when Jake belted `im `gain.”

 

“Shi, wake up” Mujinku whispered, shaking the sleeper. The voices were getting closer.

 

“Hmm?”

 

“Shi, please!”

 

Her eyes snapped open. “What?”

 

“They're coming.”
