Chapter 30 - Escape

“Are you sure you can work that thing?”

“Feh. Just sit tight and watch.” Inuyasha pulled the cord again and the boat's small engine finally kicked to life. “See!”

“Hmmm. Lucky break, baka.” Sesshoumaru scoffed as the boat pulled away from the dock.

“Baka?” Inuyasha growled, “I'll show you a baka. You couldn't even figure out how to work the engine!”

“This Sesshoumaru is a businessman, not a mechanic.”

“Feh. Excuses, excuses. You just sit there and watch while I get us to Sadoga; you wouldn't wanna break a nail.”

“Why you…”

“All right, come on.” A new guard opened the door to their room. “One at a time. Get a move on.”

Shitenshi, who was nearer the door, started to walk out. “Ladies first.”

“But Shi…” Mujinku hopped from foot to foot and shot a pleading look at the girl, who turned and scowled.

“Jinku, I'm not falling for that.”

“No, really, I gotta go. I got all that food and…”

Shi's scowl deepened and she heaved a sigh. “Fine, you little twerp. Just get out of here.” Mujinku nodded gratefully and hurried out as the man relocked the door. He scanned the room as he walked, noting the three doors and the second guard sitting at a table reading.

She was right, only one other guard. This will be easier than I thought. How can they be so stupid? Mujinku was again struck by the idiocy of their captors. The human led him to the middle door, which opened to a small privy. Smiling gratefully, Mujinku slipped into the room and looked around for a weapon. Ooh, a roll of toilet paper, that'll really come in handy… not. Not that I really expected to find anything in here anyways, but it was worth a shot. Opening the door, he followed the guard back towards their cell. The second human hadn't moved from his reading.

As the guard fumbled with his keys, Mujinku whispered under his breath, “Only the two, I've got the one at the table; this one's all yours, babe. Couldn't find a weapon, so it's fists all the way.” He knew that Shitenshi, with her extraordinary bat-youkai ears, could easily receive his message, though he could barely hear it himself. According with their plan, Mujinku took a step back away from the door.

“Your turn, girlie.” The unsuspecting guard pushed the door open and then stopped, scanning the room for the captive.

“Loose something?” Mujinku inquired, taking another step back. The guard started to turn, but then dropped to the floor with a grunt as Shitenshi stopped hovering above the door and landed on him. She winked at Mujinku, who turned and stalked towards his own guard.

“Hey, problem in there?” The thug at the table asked, not bothering to look up from his reading.

“No, no problem at all.” Mujinku replied from behind him.

“What?” The man started to rise, only to meet a fist. The hanyou boy dispatched the man with a few well placed punches and turned back to see Shitenshi's foe fall from a rap to the temple.

“Well that was simple.” Shitenshi smiled brightly. “Now, on to the armory.”

“Which way?”

“Um…” She walked to the closest door and put an ear against it. “No voices… no breathing even, so there's no one in there. Your staff could be there.” She pulled back and considered the door. “It's worth checking out, since there's no one in there, even if your staff ain't there.”

Mujinku finished shoving the second guard into their cell and locked the door with a purloined key ring. “Sounds good to me.”
