Chapter 32 - Shitenshi's Revenge

 

Shitenshi ignored Mujinku fending off the humans with his staff and the younger brother scurrying from the room; her eyes were trained on the lizard leader alone. “Zard!” The youkai hadn't seen her approach, but at her call, his head whipped around. Flaming violet eyes locked onto his yellow-green ones. For once, the demon felt true fear, staring down the short girl.

 

“What do you want?” He sneered, glancing around for a means of defense as the girl strode towards him.

 

“You.” The word, uttered so casually, sent shivers down the youkai's spine. Shitenshi never ceased her predatory stalking. “When you first beat me up, you said I reminded you of someone. Who?” She had closed in and now began to circle the demon.

 

Had he said that? “I-I don't remember.” Zard's searching hand found a pile of scraps and he threw a piece of metal at the hanyou.

 

Shitenshi dodged it and kept moving. “Liar. When was it, about 12 years ago?” Someone was yelling in the background, but they both ignored it. “Same place, right? Late at night, quarter moon?”

 

Quarter moon? Why would that matter? “You are the first hanyou I've had the displeasure of meeting.” Zard tried to regain his boastful tone. “Besides, I can't possibly remember every female I've attacked.” He threw another scrap.

 

This object Shitenshi caught and hurled it back at the stunned lizard as she screamed. “SHE LOOKED LIKE ME! She looked like me, but with black hair and no wings.” Her voice became deadly calm. “Do you know why she had black hair and no wings?”

 

“Quarter moon.” Zard frantically searched for any kind of help, eyes darting around the large room. But he was out of luck; there were no weapons in sight, and the male hanyou was engaging all of his gang. His eyes were drawn back to Shitenshi as she spoke again.

 

“Yessss!” The girl kept circling, but now she seemed almost to be glowing in the semi-darkness. “She was coming home from the pharmacy. On our human night. And you killed her. You r-raped and killed her.” Shitenshi grabbed a small box and lobbed it at him.

 

“Who was she, best friend? Older sister perhaps?” Zard taunted as he ducked the missile. The fire in Shi's eyes grew brighter at his words and Zard froze mid-sneer.

 

Shitenshi ground out every word. “You. Killed. My. MOTHER!” A burst of lavender light shot from the girl's mouth towards the startled youkai, who could not avoid the blast. It enveloped him completely, filling their corner of the room with a bright lavender glow. When her vision cleared, Shitenshi walked to the fallen demon and knelt beside him. Yellow eyes met hers as the lizard shuddered for breath.

 

“You… you ki-killed…”

 

“Yes, me. I killed you.” Shitenshi spat, glaring at the crumpled figure before her. “Now you will never harm another female. You will never orphan another child. You really were pathetic; preying on those who couldn't fight back… LOOK AT ME!!!” The youksi's eyes had flickered closed, but they refocused on the girl. “I waited 12 years to know the truth, and now I know. If it hadn't been the quarter moon, my mother wouldn't have died that night. I can't say the same for you.” He gasped once more and then was still, blank eyes still staring at the child who had killed him.

 

Shitenshi began to sob.

And yes, that is the same sort of attack that Shiori's grandfather used in the anime. Its all cannon and stuff. :D
