Chapter 3

While Kagome tried to hide her embarrassment of telling Miroku and Inuyasha exactly what `the time of the month' was, Inuyasha just sat there in shock. He hadn't known that humans went into heat to. `Do humans go into heat like demons though?' he thought. `Kagome seems unaffected. If she hadn't have told us and I hadn't have smelt her scent, I would have never known.

Sango was blushing as well. She knew it had to be embarrassing for her friend. Miroku just looked intrigued.

"Kagome, I…" Miroku began.

"NO!!!" Sango yelled. "No questions lecher!"

"Now, Sango, why would you think…:" he said trailing off when he met her cold stare. He tucked his hand behind his head sheepishly and laughed a little.

"No! No questions!" Sango said again tooting her nose up in the air. "You got the gist of it! Be satisfied that Kagome if bothered to tell you what it was because I sure wouldn't have!" Miroku nodded his head more in obedience than agreement.

* * *

Later that night, everyone sat around the campfire roasting fish that was caught earlier that day. Inuyasha sat in a tree thinking. Soon, they heard two demons making awful noises in the distance. Inuyasha's ears perked up and he scowled. He knew what they were doing…though no one below him seemed to.

"What was that?" Sango asked quickly, startled by the sudden noises.

"I don't know," Kagome said slightly shaking. She looked up in the tree where Inuyasha sat almost as if to make sure he was still there.

"Aw, Come on," Shippo said chewing on some fish. "It's probably just a couple of demons fighting. No big deal!" Sango and Kagome smiled at each other then Shippo. It was obvious the little kitsune was trying to be strong for them, but was actually scared out of his wits!

"It doesn't sound like they're fighting to me," Miroku stated. Sango and Kagome looked at him curiously.

"Really, what do you mean?" Sango asked. Miroku looked up to where Inuyasha sat. Inuyasha was now staring down at them. He had heard Miroku's last statement and was curious to know if the monk really knew what was going on. Miroku did have an inclination, but he wasn't sure, so he didn't know whether to tell them of his hunch or not.

Suddenly, Inuyasha stood up and starting bounding away from them.

"Inuyasha!" Kagome called after him.

<In Inuyasha's mind>

`No…not now…it can't be happening now," he thought as he bounded through the trees. Back at the campfire, he had suddenly got an incredible sexual urge. Did hearing the demons mate do that to him? No…it couldn't be that because he had heard demons mating the night before and it had had no effect on him. `Wait!' he thought. `I can't be leaving Kagome behind like….KAGOME!' It suddenly came to him. It had to be that. There was no other explanation for it. Kagome's scent…it had driven him crazy since he first caught wind of her scent earlier that day. Kagome's scent had caused him to go into heat…but now what does he do? If he stays around Kagome, it will drive him nuts! He will go insane being in heat around a female in heat! He suddenly knew how demons' heat cycle differed from that of humans. Demons' were much stronger! Humans can easily deal with it. Inuyasha was literally having to fight off the urge to have sex with the first female he ran into. He finally decided there was only one thing left to do. He had to release himself.

<Back at the campfire>

"Inuyasha!" Kagome called after him. "Where's he going?" Miroku and Sango exchanged some confused glance. Kagome sat there talking to them for a couple of minutes before deciding to go after Inuyasha.

"I've got to go after him!" she said grabbing her arrows and taking off. "I promise to be careful!" She waved back at them as they watched her disappear into the forest.

"Kagome!" Miroku said jumping to his feet.

Suddenly Sango felt something pierce the skin on her neck. Thinking it was a mosquito, she slapped it quickly, only to witness an old flee floating to the ground.

"Myouga!" she exclaimed. "What are you doing here?" Myouga popped back into his normal form.

"I came here as quickly as I could!" he said almost out of breath. "When I realized it was demon mating season…"

"WHAT?" Sango and Miroku both shouted at him.

"Yes!" Myouga said a little confused, but then jumped up when he noticed that Inuyasha and Kagome were gone. "Agh! Where's Inuyasha and Kagome?!"

"Inuyasha suddenly got a wild look in his eyes and Kagome was worried so she took off after him. Why?" Sango asked. Myouga started shaking his head.

"Inuyasha has not been properly informed of the demon mating rituals. His father and mother died before they could tell him. Oh, this is all my fault. I have been putting this off for years! Now Kagome is in danger!" he said sadly.

"Wait! What? What do you mean Kagome is in danger?" Miroku asked.

"Demons have to mate with humans a certain way. They have to share some of their demon blood with their human before mating in order for them not to be too rough with them, and so the human can be a little stronger during their mating. I could tell that Inuyasha was eventually going to take Kagome as his mate. That's the reason that I came over here so quickly," he said. He sniffed where he stood. He was where Kagome had been sitting. "Oh, GOD!!! Please don't tell me Kagome is in heat too!" Miroku and Sango exchanged worried glances. They knew that something terrible was about to happen between Inuyasha and Kagome, but they didn't know what to do in order to stop it.

"She is," Miroku said grabbing his staff and standing up. Myouga fell backwards.

"That makes things even that much worse!" he said frantically. "Kagome's scent will drive him insane and he will take her for sure!" Sango jumped up and grabbed her boomerang.

"Can we stop them?" she asked. Myouga sighed.

"If you can get to him before Kagome does…you can warn him and he will probably listen to you. But if he gets to her first, you will have to fight him off of her, or you will have to let him finish," Myouga said.

"Kilala!" Sango yelled. Kilala roared and transformed. Sango and Miroku jumped on Kilala's back. "Stay here with Shippo, Myouga! This is not something for him to see!" Myouga nodded and looked at Shippo. He was shaking from fear for Kagome.

<In the forest>

Inuyasha had just finished relieving himself of his sexual torture. He sat back against the trunk of a tree and sighed. He felt a lot better now. He felt more in control. He had scared himself earlier. It was as if he had no control over his actions…he just had to find a mate. He was about to drift off to sleep when…

"Inuyasha!" he heard a female voice yell. He sniffed the air. `Kagome?' he thought. `What was she doing here?' He watched as she slowly came into view. He stared her down. Her soft, flowing hair…nice, full breasts…tiny waist...round hips…slender legs…OH GOD, WHAT WAS HE DOING? He had the weirdest feeling inside. Suddenly, another scent caught his nose.

Kagome had been walking for what seemed like forever. `Where am I?' she thought.

"Inuyasha?" she called, but no answer came. She continued to walk through the forest. `If he is with Kikyo…I am going to kill him!' she thought. She decided not to call after Inuyasha anymore and just walk through the forest looking for him. She hadn't been paying attention to where she was going and ran into something hard. She looked up to see…a human? No, it was a demon that looked like a human. He had long, black hair and a very olive complexion. His eyes were red and he had a silver star in the middle of his forehead. He was dressed in Japanese armor and was fully armed.

"Sorry," Kagome mumbled trying to get around him. He grabbed her arm. "May I help you?" she asked. He examined her over and over again.

"Yes, I do believe you can," he said with an evil grin. "I normally don't take humans, but you seem to have some sort of unusual powers, and I haven't mated yet."

`MATED?' Kagome thought. `No…he can't be thinking…oh how do I get myself into these messes?'

"Me? A worthless human?" she asked sheepishly. "I would assume someone of your great stature would take on something more worthy of you!" She hoped her flattery had worked. He smiled.

"Nice try," he said. "But you seem to be worthy of me…for after I take you as a mate…I'll take that jewel that hangs around your neck!" Kagome glanced down at the nearly complete shikon no tama and gasped. The demons laughed evilly and then turned his face into a scowl. He threw her down to the ground.

"Let's get this over with!" he shouted and jumped on top of her. He started tearing at her clothes and almost succeeded in removing her top when…

"GET THE FUCK OFF HER!!!" A mighty punch was delivered to his face. Kagome looked up.

"Inuyasha!" she shouted gleefully. Inuyasha drew tetsaiga and sliced the man's arm. The man growled. He was to caught up in finding a mate to fight so he quickly ran away. Inuyasha sheathed tetsaiga and walked over to Kagome. He took her in his arms and hugged her.

"You okay?" he asked gently. Kagome was surprised by his sudden action.

"Y-Yeah!" she stammered. "I'm fine!" Inuyasha released her.

"Good!" he said his face now turning to a scowl. "Now do you mind telling me what the hell you were thinking coming into this forest at a time like this?" Kagome looked confused.

"At a time like what?" she asked. Inuyasha realized that Kagome didn't know about demon mating season, and how every demon on earth right now was trying to find a mate. And, on top of that, she was in heat, attracting every demon for a hundred mile radius. "Nothing!" he said.

"No Inuyasha! Tell me!" she said demanding an explanation. "What is going on?" Inuyasha looked down at her…her eyes begging him to tell her.

"It's mating season," he mumbled not feeling like fighting with her.

"What?" she asked shocked.

"It's demon mating season, Kagome! And you're in heat!" he yelled at her. "Don't you know that you being in heat is going to attract all kinds of demons during this time?" Kagome frowned.

"It's not like I can help it!" she said angrily. "I don't pick and choose when my heat cycle comes around!" Inuyasha blushed. He couldn't help, but think she looked cute all angry like that. He quickly wiped that thought from his mind. He was being too much like Miroku. He was beginning to really, really hate mating season.

"I know!" he screamed at her. "But I don't want anything to happen to you!" Kagome blushed. Inuyasha blushed as well. He turned his head and folded his arms in his haori. Kagome didn't know what to say. She just stood there.

"So…so what do you want me to do?" she asked. "Return to camp?" Inuyasha decided there was no use in hiding anymore. It was the perfect opportunity, and Naraku was dead. He was just about to speak when Kagome interrupted him.

"Were you and Kikyo busy?" she asked. "I can leave. I didn't mean to interrupt anything." Inuyasha was thrown back. Him and Kikyo busy? Kagome turned to leave, but Inuyasha grabbed her arm. He looked at her. Her face held sadness mixed with sincerity.

"No, you dumb girl!" he said gruffly. "I wasn't with Kikyo!" Kagome looked at him with a confused expression.

"You weren't?" she asked. He shook his head.

"But you have to mate, too, right?" she asked. He shrugged his shoulders.

"I guess I do," he said. "But even so, I wouldn't take Kikyo." Kagome was shocked at hearing those words.

"Wh-What? Why? Don't you love her?" she asked. Kagome had almost accepted the fact that Kikyo and Inuyasha were going to be together. This news really caught her off guard. Inuyasha sighed realizing it was now or never to tell her the truth.
