InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ In the wild ❯ Deep forest ( Chapter 8 )

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]

Author's Note: Thank you for the reviews! They were most encouraging.

About the story: I received two reviews stating that the story is too similar to the Feehan Book. That is both true and false. The truth of the matter, I did read the first three chapters of the book. I was reading it in a store so I never finished it.

The idea of a jungle man with a city girl is not an original idea

I went on vacation for two weeks and spent two days in Hana State Park rain forest. I loved it. That made those chapters to me more alive. That is why I kind of put myself in the story. My occupation is a tour guide. It would seem kind of dull me taking people on a safari trip in a van, so I changed it to being a boat. The boat in my mind is like the boat on Anaconda. The two dogs were based on Princess Mononoke.

I want the story to seem more spiritual, into nature, because there are cultures that are so intoned with the wild life it so surreal. I wanted to show that in the story, that is why Inu can mind speak and communicate with the dogs.

The cove with the seven pools was based in an area called hana. It's a state park in Hawaii. There lie the seven sacred pools. So if that causes a problem then I am sorry. I didn't think of writing this story line until after my trip. Like I said, I didn't really like the book too much. So maybe in a sense I took the story and wanted it to make it different. I thought that the premise was a cool Idea. So I am sorry. Read the book, you will see the vast differences between mine story and hers. If this offends you then I offer my most humble apologies.

Chapter 8

In the deep forest

Kagome had been wearily traveling for about five hours. It is now twilight, and the air had turned cold. `Maybe it wasn't a good idea to leave the hut.' She thought to herself. She had managed to travel down a narrow path though.

While slowly creeping down the dim path, she couldn't help but notice the familiarity of the path. Within a mile the path emptied itself into a cove. It was the same cove that she saw in her dream. “Oh no,” she said out loud looking for signs of the little white haired girl. When satisfied she couldn't help but notice the change in the atmosphere. Unlike her dream, where she felt dread and hatred, she felt like that land was welcoming her.

Accepting the warm welcome, she ran over to the pond and bent down. Greedily she brought the water to her mouth to drink. “Ah the water is so sweet!” the exclaimed as she bent down and drank more. When her thirst was quenched, she then poured some water in her hair and started washing her face. When that small detail was finished she sat back and removed her boots. She decided to soak her feet in the steam.

While relaxing, Kagome caught something brown and fuzzy at the corner of her eye. Getting up, she decided to wade in the stream to look at what she spotted. Her eyes widened in horror at the sight of a strangled mongoose lying on one of the rocks. Bending down she slowly inspected the creature. `This was real, the girl, I was actually here.' She thought as she looked at it.

Not understanding why, but something deep in her heart told her to touch the small dead animal. She then reached out to touch the squirrel-like tail. At contact, the tail instantly moved. Backing up Kagome ended up slipping on one of the slick rocks. Landing in two feet of water, she was bewildered to find the mongoose alive. Normally timid creatures the Mongoose stared at her, looking like he wanted to do something to her. Within seconds the little animal perched itself on one of her knees and stared at her intently.

“What? I don't know how I did that. I thought you were dead? Shoo Shoo.” She said swatting her hands at the little animal. The Mongoose twittered and dashed off. Kagome got up and went to get her bag and boots to head out. She didn't want to see anything else so she thought that it was a good time to leave.

“Ok girl, there are three paths to take which one should I use?” She asked herself. When she picked a path, she was off again; ready to continue her journey to whatever fate would take her. Though as she left the cove, a set of eyes were following her every move.

Not even 10 minutes past when she noticed birds frantically flying away. She also saw the small animals were scurrying around as if fleeing. She looked around cautiously realizing that something was following her. She started to walk in a faster pace. While walking she kept on looking around making sure she didn't see any extra shadows, but looking overhead as well.

When she turned a corner, she was immediately thrown to the ground from the force of a body jumping on her. Without looking she rolled on the ground and got out of its hold. Blindly she ran over to the right. Blindly running caused her to make a fatal mistake. She ran herself right off a steep hill.

Rolling down the hill, Kagome lost her backpack. Once at the bottom, she quickly tried getting to her feet only to fall down again. She felt a severe shot of pain at her knee. Looking down, she saw that her knee was severely dislocated. Knowing she didn't have much time left, she set it back into place which caused to cry out in pain, she tried to get up again. She got up but fell over again. When she put her head up again she was face to nose again with the white dog. He sniffed at her and gave her a lick on the cheek. Yes, it's the dog from the hut.

“You again? Was it you following me?” She said to it starting to calm herself down now that she knew that she was safe. Then her eyes narrowed and she yelled, “Hey, you are the reason that I am hurt. You did this. You're heartless!” the dog in question pulled his ears down as if he was to blame. Kagome then grew guilty by blaming him for her misfortune. It was her brilliant idea after all to leave the place.

“Oh alright it was my fault. I shouldn't have left the home.” She said. He accepted the apology and his tail started to wag. Not knowing what to do now she just reached over and pet his ears.

Kiba (She doesn't know his name yet, but we as readers do) jumped back and started growling. Kagome would have taken offence to that, except she noticed he was looking past her. Turning around, she saw three large dogs growling back. “Dear lord it's the dogs from the dream!” She screeched.

As if her statement set them off, two of the beasts pounced on Kiba. Before she could even open her mouth, the other jumped on her. Out of reflex, she closed her eyes and threw her arms over her head. Her right arm was instantly in the beast's mouth and he started chewing on it. She screamed in pain and tried fighting it with her legs and other arm.

Her blood was everywhere, and she thought she was about to faint. She noticed the dog stayed holding fast to her arm and not anything else. It was almost like the dog was reluctantly trying to kill her. Or maybe the plan was just to harm her and not kill her.

From a distance a sound of a horn was heard, and the three dogs instantly backed off and retreated. Glad that they were gone, Kagome sat up relieved. “I can't take another attack like this. This is crazy.” She said as she looked over at her furry companion.

“Hey Doggy, are you ok?” She asked Aside from the Fang marks and blood on his beautiful white fur, he looked ok. Shaking himself off, he approached her with a concerned look in his eyes.

“Thank you for saving me.” She said as she leaned to give the large animal a hug. Kiba circled around her and laid up against her back, offering his body for her to lean on. She exhaled and leaned back, realizing that now she was safe. Within an hour both injured souls were sound asleep.

Within three hours the hunter with his injured companion came to retrieve what belonged to him. His knife, his companion, and his mate.
