A/N: I apologize for not making it clearer. It was Inuyasha who gave the ring to her. Seeing as this is an InuKag fic, it seems only suitable.

 

Chapter 1:

 

Kagome had finally awoken from her slumber. She blinked a few times to let herself adjust to the light streaming through her bedroom window. With a yawn, Kagome lazily got out of bed. That was when the scent of waffles hit her. She was startled when she heard a growl come from her stomach. It took a few seconds for her mind to finally process that she was hungry and she giggled at how slow she was that morning.

 

`Mmm, breakfast… I need to eat, I'm starving…'

 

She then sauntered into the bathroom and finished her daily routines. Kagome dressed herself in her school uniform and went downstairs, where she met her mother.

 

“Morning Mama,” Kagome greeted.

 

“Morning,” Mrs. Higurashi replied as she made breakfast. Kagome sat down at the table and quietly waited for her breakfast to be served.

 

“Hey Nee-Chan,” Souta said sleepily as he entered the kitchen.

 

“Good morning” Kagome said with a smile.

 

“Here you go” Mrs. Higurashi said as she placed a plate of waffles in front of both her children. They quickly devoured their breakfast and went to go get ready for school. While Kagome was putting on her backpack there was a knock on the door and Kagome answered it. It was Hojo.

 

“Hi Hojo,” Kagome greeted as she gave him a friendly smile.

 

Hojo was a friend whom Kagome had met a while back, and he had taken the role of walking with her to school everyday.

 

“Hello Higurashi,” Hojo replied as he bowed politely.

 

Kagome laughed. “Hojo, what did I tell you? There's no need for formalities”

 

He flushed. “Sorry, I guess its becoming a bit of a habit now.”

 

She sighed. “Please stop, we're friends and its weird when to address me so formally”

 

After she had put on her shoes and bid her mother goodbye, she turned to him.

 

“Let's go?” Kagome asked.

 

“Let's” He replied. They then walked side by side towards the school. Kagome noticed that Hojo attempted to grab her hand several times but was to shy to actually do it. She knew that he liked her, it couldn't be helped. He was nice and all but he was just way too shy and a bit of a bore. While Kagome was deep in thought she accidentally crashed right into someone.

 

“Ouch!” Kagome yelled as she rubbed her sore head from her position on the ground.

 

“Oi! Watch it wench!” A male voice came.

 

“Sorry” Kagome apologized without even looking up.

 

“Keh” He scoffed before walking away. Kagome looked up only to see his retreating figure. He had the most gorgeous, waist-length, silver hair. It was so…unique and seemed so familiar. That was the first thing that attracted her to him.

 

`Who was that? Is he new? Wow, his hair is absolutely gorgeous…' Kagome thought to herself as she stared after him. She felt a twinge of jealousy, when she realized his hair was more attractive than hers and he was a guy!

 

“Umm… Kagome maybe we should get going before we're late.” Hojo suggested but Kagome completely missed it. “Kagome!”

 

“Hmm? What is it?” She asked completely oblivious to his suggestion.

 

“Shall we get going before we're late?” He repeated.

 

“Uhh… Yeah” Kagome replied sheepishly. `I just made a complete idiot of myself…'

Once in the classroom, Kagome had heard from her friends that there was to be a new student coming to their school. They had said that he was a really cool guy, and the few girls who had seen him gushed at how `hot' he was.

 

`Hmm, I wonder who he is...' She thought aimlessly. Just as the thought had passed by, the door opened and Mr. Dieshi came in, with somebody behind him. Kagome caught sight of something silver and opened her mouth in surprise.

 

`Could it be?!'

 

“Okay class, this is Inuyasha Takahashi, he's new to the school so play nice.” Mr. Dieshi said. of

 

`Oh my gosh! It's the guy from before!' And she had to admit, he was really good looking.

 

“Keh whatever” Inuyasha grunted before taking a seat beside Kagome. He hadn't seemed to recognize her though. Kagome stared at him with a blush gracing her cheeks.

 

“You got a staring problem, wench?” Inuyasha asked rudely. Kagome's face turned crimson from the comment.

 

“Ahem, Ms. Higurashi if you might just stop ogling Mr.Takahashi then we might be able to begin the lesson” Mr. Dieshi said raising a brow. By now the whole class was silently laughing at Kagome. Inuyasha just snorted and glared at her.

 

“What?! I wasn't ogling him!” Kagome retorted.

 

“You so were” Inuyasha replied as a small smile played on his lips.

 

“Why don't we discuss this after school but for now you two can both stand outside of the classroom like the 2nd graders that you're acting like” Mr. Dieshi said as he pointed towards the door. Mumbles of complaints could be heard from both of the students as they exited the room.

 

“Look what you did! You got me in trouble and you gave me a detention!” Kagome fumed once they were out of the classroom.

 

“Oi wench! It's not my fault that you were staring!” Inuyasha snorted.

 

“I was NOT staring! Why would anyone want to stare at such an arrogant jerk!”

 

“I don't know… You tell me, you were the one staring” Inuyasha replied coolly.

 

“You're impossible!” Kagome said angrily her voice defeated.

 

“Yeah, so I am. What of it?” Inuyasha smirked. After that comment Kagome felt as if she could just kill him but she resisted the urge to do something she was sure she would regret in the future. Kagome was always at the top of the class. She was a straight A student with an impeccable record. Over all Kagome was labeled as your everyday good girl. Kagome Higurashi was NOT someone who got detention. You could only imagine why she was fuming.

 

“Shut up and don't ever talk to me again.” Kagome said flipping her hair and turning around so that she wouldn't be facing him anymore.

 

“Fine with me wench” Inuyasha replied rolling his eyes.

Kagome slowly staggered towards Mr. Dieshi's room. She dreaded this moment. She slowly turned the knob and opened the door. What she found surprising, was the fact that Inuyasha was there before her.

 

“Come in Ms. Higurashi and have a seat.” Mr. Dieshi said with a smile. She slowly trudged over to the desk beside Inuyasha and sat down.

 

“What now? I've got places to be” Inuyasha said tapping his foot.

 

“I've just got to tell you two the exciting news.” Mr. Dieshi said, his smile turning into a smirk.

 

Kagome saw, and soon had a sinking feeling of what he was going to say next.

 

“What is it?” Kagome said hesitantly.

 

“You two get to be project partners!” Mr. Dieshi announced. Both Inuyasha and Kagome's jaws dropped.

 

“You've got to be kidding me!” Kagome screamed.

 

“You're joking… Right?” Inuyasha asked still shocked.

 

Mr. Dieshi sighed. He somehow knew this was going to happen. Every year, he had at least two stubborn students who would always get stuck with each other.

 

“Mm… I wish that I was but you two are the only two left without partners” Mr. Dieshi explained.

 

“He's going to so totally pull my mark down!” Kagome pouted.

 

“Well then find a way to work with him.” Mr. Dieshi replied.

 

“I'm so not working with her” Inuyasha said.

 

“Me either” Kagome agreed.

 

“Well then you both will just have to repeat this course over next year” Mr. Dieshi smiled.

 

“No!” They both yelled at the same time.

 

“I'll work with her if I don't get you as a teacher EVER again” Inuyasha said smartly.

 

“Deal” Mr. Dieshi said. “Then it's decided, you two will be partners for the rest of the semester.”

 

Kagome groaned at the thought of having a jerk as a partner.

 

“Okay, now for your first assignment together” Mr. Dieshi started

 

Kagome swallowed hard. This was definitely going to be one long semester.

 

“You two are to work together and figure out a financial plan to raise 3 children. You both make $45000 a year each. Now you must hand in a report stating how you divided the money and what it went towards. Naming your kids is optional but their ages are 2, 5, and 7.”

 

“No way…” Kagome said in disbelief.

 

“This is due next month on the 15th” Mr. Dieshi said.

 

“Anything else?” Inuyasha said in a bored tone.

 

“Yeah, try not to procrastinate too much because this project is worth 20% of this terms mark”

 

“Yeah, that's great and all but can we go now?” Inuyasha asked impatiently as he stared at the door.

 

“You may leave” He dismissed with a wave of his hand. Inuyasha raced out of the door as quickly as he possible could. Whereas, Kagome, stood up, tucked in her chair, and bowed politely before following Inuyasha out of the door.

 

`I've got all the luck in the world. I'm stuck with the world's biggest jack ass!' Kagome thought mentally rolling her eyes. `Why did Kami just turn on me all of a sudden?'

“Stupid jerk” Kagome mumbled as she walked towards the shrine. Even though Inuyasha had gotten out of the room before Kagome had, her locker was much closer to the room and she was out of the school before he was. But it didn't take him long to follow her out. She had noticed that he was following her but she didn't think much of it. As she began to ascend the stairs, something caused her to stop abruptly.

 

`You've got to be kidding me….' Kagome thought in disbelief as she saw Inuyasha enter the house next to the shrine. Kagome mentally groaned and continued to make her way up the stairs.

 

“Mama, I'm home” Kagome called out as she stepped into the house.

 

“Welcome home, how was your day?” Kagome's mother asked as she came out from the kitchen to greet her daughter.

 

“Horrible” Kagome replied before she ran up the stairs and into her room. She knew that her mother would be up soon to ask her why her school day was horrible. She tossed her bag into the corner and flopped onto her bed with a sigh. Sure enough a knock came to her door.

 

“Come in Mama” Kagome called out. The door opened and sure enough he mother came through.

 

“Am I becoming too predictable?” Her mother asked with a chuckle.

 

“Just a bit, Mama” Kagome replied with a smile.

 

“So, what's wrong?” Her mother asked.

 

“I got this guy who's a total jerk as my partner” Kagome explained.

 

“Well it can't be that bad, it's only for one class anyways isn't it?” Her mother reasoned.

 

“But he lives next door to us…” Kagome groaned.

 

“Oh, so he's the boy who just moved into that house” Her mother said in realization. “You have a better chance to get to know him then”

 

“I don't want to get to know that jerk” Kagome complained.

 

“Just go over there and welcome him to the neighborhood” Her mother insisted. “And you could give him a tour or something”

 

“Fine, but he's probably just going to slam the door on my face” Kagome said rolling her eyes as she got off of her bed and headed towards the door.

-DING DONG-

 

“Coming” Inuyasha called.

 

-DING DONG-

 

“I said that I'm coming”

 

-DING DONG-

 

“I'M COMING ALREADY!”

 

-DING DONG-

 

Irritated with all of the ringing, Inuyasha opened the door. To his surprise, Kagome was standing at his door.

 

“Took you long enough” Kagome spat.

 

“What do you want wench?” Inuyasha asked not looking impressed.

 

“Well, my mother thought that it'd be a good idea if I showed you around the neighborhood since you just moved here” Kagome explained.

 

“Wow, this is unreal, no girl who's liked me has ever stalked me to my house before” Inuyasha said looking amazed.

 

“I am NOT stalking you and I most definitely do NOT like you” Kagome fumed.

 

“Well, if you wanted to see me, you didn't have to come up with lame excuse of having your mom ask you come over here” Inuyasha teased.

 

“You arrogant JERK” Kagome screamed. “You're impossible”

 

“We already agreed on that at school today remember?” Inuyasha said smugly.

 

“I HATE YOU!” Kagome screamed in his face before she stomped out of his yard.

 

“She loves me” Inuyasha chuckled to himself as he shut his door.

Kagome stormed into the house, her temper flaring.

 

“Kagome, how'd it go?” Her mother asked poking her head out of the kitchen.

 

“I hate him sooooo much, that JERK!” Kagome fumed as she stomped up the stairs and into her room. She lay down on her bed and screamed into her pillow. After a couple minutes she heard the door bell ring. Foot steps could be heard coming towards her door.

 

“Kagome, some boy is here to see you” Souta's voice came from the other side of the door. Kagome gave a frustrated groan before she got up out of her bed and started to make her way to the front door.

 

“Hello” Inuyasha greeted with a smirk. Kagome rolled her eyes. Of all the boys in the world, he had to be the one standing in her front doorway.

 

“What do you want?” Kagome said coldly, obviously pissed off at him still.

 

“Well, I thought that you said that you'd show me around the neighborhood” He said, his smirk still present.

 

“I withdrew my offer” Kagome replied not looking impressed.

 

“Kagome, give the nice boy a tour” Her mother called from the living room.

 

“Yeah Kagome, give the nice boy a tour” Inuyasha laughed.

 

“Very funny, fine let's go” Kagome said as she mentally groaned. As soon as she stepped out of the door, she knew that the tour was most definitely not going to be fun. They crossed the street to get a better look at the shrine.

 

“So, this is my house, it's obviously not like other houses considering it's a shrine” Kagome said in a boring voice that could make anyone fall asleep.

 

“You're boring, let's do something more fun” Inuyasha said after he faked a yawn.

 

“Fine, if you want to do something fun, you can show yourself the neighborhood” Kagome screamed furiously.

 

“Whoa, calm down, it's not my fault that your boring” Inuyasha laughed.

 

“God, why the HELL am I even here when all you want to do is piss me off” Kagome screamed.

 

“I didn't know that you we're such a kid, stop having a temper tantrum” He continued to laugh. She just about had enough of him. In her fit of anger, she stomped off angrily onto the road, not really watching where she was going.

 

“HONK HOOOONK” The truck sounded. Kagome's eyes widened as her head snapped towards the sound. A speeding truck was headed right towards her and she was frozen from fear.

 

“ARE YOU STUPID? MOVE!” She heard Inuyasha scream before something pushed her out of the way of the truck. She felt her elbows scrape against the hard cement and winced. She didn't open her eyes until she felt the weight lift off of her. Enduring the pain, she slowly opened her eyes and looked over at the person who had saved her. It was none other than Inuyasha himself. She tried to move herself away from him but cried out in pain when she moved her arms. Blood was flowing freely from a huge gash near her elbow.

 

“Ahh!” Kagome cried again as she lightly touched the wound with her other hand.

 

“Are you stupid? You could've been killed if I hadn't pushed you out of the way” Inuyasha scolded. Kagome wasn't listening, she was busy trying to cope with the immense pain that wound was causing her. Kagome continued examining her arm while trying to keep her movement to a minimal. Her wrist looked swollen and hurt when she tried to move it. It must've gotten sprained when she fell.

 

“Oi, wench let me see your arm” Inuyasha commanded and took her arm before she could answer him. Kagome winced when he took hold of it. He carefully examined it before he gave out a relieved sigh.

 

“Is there something wrong with it?” Kagome asked cautiously, not really sure if she wanted to know the answer.

 

“Feel lucky, it's only a scrape and a sprained wrist, you could be dead right now” Inuyasha said sternly before he helped her up off of the ground. Kagome blushed. If it hadn't been for him, she'd be dead by now. Then again, if it wasn't for him, she wouldn't have been out on the street in the first place, so the sprained wrist and scrape were technically his fault.

 

“You jerk, I wouldn't have been on the road in the first place if it weren't for you” Kagome snapped back.

 

“Well, I still saved your life” Inuyasha replied smartly.

 

“You wouldn't have needed to if you hadn't made me step out onto the street in the first place” Kagome shot back.

 

“I didn't make you do anything, it was your own choice to step out onto the street without looking both ways” Inuyasha replied keeping his cool.

 

“JERK!” She screamed before she started towards the shrines steps. He quickly followed her up and grabbed onto her good arm, causing her to stop in her tracks and turn to face him. “What?”

 

“I don't even get a thank you?” He smirked.

 

“Yeah, whatever, thanks” Kagome replied as she rolled her eyes and tried to pull her arm away.

 

“Come on now at least be sincere about it” He pushed.

 

“Fine, thank you” She said faking a smile.

 

“Good enough” He laughed.

 

“Can I go now?” She asked raising a brow. He shrugged and let go of her arm. Taking in a deep breath and then letting it out she turned around and walked up the stairs. This was officially the worst day ever.
