“Mother! Mother! Look at this gigantic tree!” shouted a young girl with delight, pointing to `Inuyasha's tree'. She was about 7 years old, always curious about everything. Inuyasha was on the other side of the tree so he couldn't be seen. “Haru, we shouldn't be in Inuyasha's Forest,” said the young girl's mother as she walked with her husband toward the young girl.
“I know, dear, but we must clear this path for the spring crops,” replied Haru, the child's father. “Ichigo! Stay close!” shouted the mother, also called Tomo. Tomo ran after Ichigo, grabbing her by the hand and pulled her close to her. “This place is crawling with blood-thirsty demons.”
The young girl shuddered. The night before, they were attacked by a neko youkai. Her family fled for their lives, including the townspeople. Only a few people were injured. Ichigo looked at the tree once more and noticed something. It was almost invisible and it was a bright red color. She quickly slipped out of her mother's grasp and ran over to whatever it was. The young girl gasped as she saw that the thing was part of the kimono of an inu hanyou.
Being one of those brave children, Ichigo waved her hand over Inuyasha's face. Nothing happened. Then, she poked him on the arm. The same thing: nothing. She noticed that an arrow was in his chest. Her hand grasped the it and pulled. The arrow that contained the spell rested in the hands of Ichigo. It slowly Inuyasha.
A scared and frightened look appeared on her face disintegrated into a yellow dust as the wind quickly carried it away. The girl stared at the, for he was staring at her as well. Ichigo screamed as she quickly ran off, hoping the inu hanyou wouldn't follow her. Inuyasha collapsed on the ground, staring off into the forest, seeing nothing but trees and no sign of the girl. The inu hanyou slowly got up, trying to get used to walking. “I'm free...” he mumbled as he supported himself toward the tree. “Kikyo.”
He pushed himself off the tree and looked around. His ears twitched slightly, trying to hear any sound that was close by. All he could hear were the cries of the little girl that released him. No luck. Inuyasha sniffed the air, but it had no scent of Kikyo. No luck there either.
`Where is she?' he thought to himself as he lingered throughout the forest, trying to find any sign of the miko he knew, but with no prevail. The inu sighed as he looked around once more, only noted again that he was alone, surrounded by tall trees and small bushes.
Rain drops fell from the sky as it quickly began to pour. Inuyasha quickly ran into a nearby cave. It was cold and damp, but was enough to shelter him until the rain stopped. He quickly gathered dried wood from the mouth of the cave. The inu bunched them up and made sparks, setting them on fire. The cave was soon brightened by the fire's light and warmth.
Inuyasha sat close to a wall of the cave, his back against it. The inu hanyou sighed. He looked around the brightened cave. Everything was like a regular polluted cave except for one thing. As the fire flickered, the shadow of a young girl could be seen from Inuyasha's spot.
