Chapter 4
“Inuyasha?” Kagome called from the bedroom.
“Yeah, I'm coming.” Inuyasha leaped down and climbed in through her window.
Kagome had a very pleased smile on her face, “where'd you go?”
“Up on the roof, I had to do some thinking.”
“About earlier?” Kagome half giggled.
“Yeah, look I'm sorry I took advantage of you, Kagome. It was my mistake.”
“Mistake?”
“Yeah, I'm going back now. I still have a lot to think about.”
Kagome was driven to tears, “why? You don't want to be with me?”
“It's not…don't cry Kagome, I hate it when you cry.”
“It's Kikyo isn't it? You're still in love with that dead woman.”
“I'm not in love with Kikyo!” The half-demon yelled. Kagome whimpered. I'm coming back okay? I'll go to the festival with you, I promise.” He took her face in his hands, wiped away her tears, and kissed her lips then her forehead. “Please don't cry Kagome.”
“Inuyasha will you kiss me? Just one more time before you go?”
Inuyasha half smiled, “whatever you want Kagome.” He kissed her slowly, deeply and passionately. Neither of them realized it then, but it was very much a lover's kiss. For the first time since he had made his decision to leave, he wished he knew himself well enough to stay with her. But leave he did. Leaving behind the half broken heart of the woman who loved him.
Kagome sat in silence at the dinner table. She barely ate anything and didn't feel like talking. It was Grandfather that finally made her speak.
“Where is that demon of yours?”
“He's not mine, he…decided to go back to his own time.”
“What about the festival?” Souta asked, “doesn't he want to go?”
“He said he'd come back,” she said so quietly they could barely hear her.
“This silence isn't like you Kagome,” her mother said worried, “did something happen between the two of you?”
Kagome saw a flash of Inuyasha's naked, sweating form looming over hers as he came into her. “No, nothing he just said he needed to think. I'm fine really,” she lied.
“Okay, dear. Father? When does the festival start?”
“Tomorrow at dawn. The morning after the new moon.”
`New moon, Inuyasha becomes human on the new moon,' Kagome thought. “I have to go get Inuyasha,” she said, hastily excusing herself from the dinner table.
