Chapter 4: Red Eyes

In the evening, in Kaede's village……

Everyone was seated in the hut of the late Kaede to have their dinner but none could begin. Kohaku and Rin didn't return yet and everyone was worried about them.

Kagome was standing at the door looking outside.

“It's already dark and Rin still hasn't returned. What answer will I give if brother Sesshomaru comes again?” Kagome tapped her lips with her finger tips.
“Is something bothering you, Kagome?” understanding her gesture, Inuyasha asked.
“No, Inuyasha, it's nothing,” Kagome nodded for the negative and exited the hut.

“I can see Kagome, that you are worried,” Inuyasha insisted on knowing.

“It's Rin, Inuyasha," Kagome said. "She and Kohaku have not yet returned. I am just worried about them.”
"Rin's safe with Kohaku, don't worry," Inuyasha consoled her.

"What about brother, if he comes again?" Kagome looked up at the waning moon.

“That jerk doesn't even ask," Inuyasha replied. "You don't have to answer him.”
“He doesn't understand, does he?" Kagome thought. "He doesn't know that his brother is in love with Rin.”

A few moments passed by. Inuyasha and Kagome were still out waiting for Rin and Kohaku.

"We should look for them, Inuyasha," Kagome said.
"Darn! What's taking them so long?!" Inuyasha sat down.
"I didn't tell you to sit!" Kagome's worried face showed signs of frowning. "Okay, let's wait a little more then," she sighed and sat down beside Inuyasha.

They waited for a long time but there was no sign of Kohaku and Rin. Kagome got fed up of waiting and stood up.

"It's about time we go Inu-" Kagome stopped.
"Yeah, let's go now," Inuyasha was getting back on his feet.
"Forget it, Inuyasha," Kagome settled down again.
"Why?!" Inuyasha raised his voice.
"You're a human now, Inuyasha," Kagome showed him a strand of his black hair.

"But-"

"No going-and-looking-for-them and that's final!" Kagome barked out.
"I am weak in my human form, that's why you don't-"
"Inuyasha," Kagome inched closer to him. "You are not weak," Kagome leaned against him.
"Kagome," Inuyasha looked at her face.
"Inuyasha," Kagome returned the glance.

Her eyelids were partly closed and so were his. None of them heard anything other than each other's heart beats and saw nothing but each other's eyes. He gazed at her dark grey eyes and she at his black eyes. Their face gradually came closer to each other and...

"Hey, Inuyasha!" Miroku shouted as he came out of hut, not noticing what Inuyasha was doing or was about to do. But when he did notice, he turned away and walked back into the hut.

Both Inuyasha and Kagome heard Miroku's voice and because of that they turned red with embarrassment. Otherwise, they were so lost in themselves that they didn't notice a pair of red eyes keeping tabs on them.

“Kohaku has still not returned and neither did Rin, where-" Sango was pacing about in the hut, thinking about Rin and Kohaku when she bumped into Miroku and flattened him to the ground. "Argh! can't you see while walking?" Sango yelled at him.

"Sango!" Miroku said, staring at Sango's face. "Let's do it, Sango!"
"Do what?!" She arched her eyebrows.
"Sango," He held her face with his hands and tried to bring it closer to his face. "Let's kiss, Sango!"
"M-Miroku!" A tinge of pink formed on her cheeks.

"Ahem! Ahem!"

Sango snapped up to attention and was back on her feet immediately.

"Damn you!" Miroku swore under his breath."What brings you here, Sano?"
"I'm going to sleep, good Monk," Sano replied. "I came to say Good Night."

Sano left after he was done.

"You look worried Sango," Miroku said as he got up.
"It's Rin and Kohaku," Sango replied.
“Don't worry so much Sango” Miroku patted her shoulders.
“Kohaku often stays out, I know," Sango said. "He is a lot stronger than he was before and with the Shadow scythe in his hands he can't be harmed."
"So stop worrying!" Miroku said.
"I am worried about Rin,” Sango looked towards the door.

Two shadows fell on the floor of the hut.

"Who's there?" Miroku firmliy held his staff.
"It's me," It was Inuyasha's voice.
"And me too!" Kagome and Inuyasha entered the hut.

"And us too!" Rin and Kohaku entered the hut after Inuyasha and Kagome.

“You two got us really worried!" Sango yelled at Rin and Kohaku. "Where were you? What were you doing?”

A barrage of questions followed after that. Some were answered and some were left to the questioners for answering.

The two pairs of red eyes were not watching anymore. They were gone, perhaps, in the most questionable fashion. But who could have asked them the reason for their arrival and departure? No one knew about their existence. So, no one could.
