Chapter 2

Day by Day

 

InuYasha rushed to the room to find Kagome struggling to sit up with the help of Sango. InuYasha went to Kagome's side and helped her up.

 

“Are you all right?” he asked worriedly.

 

“Yes, I'm fine.”

 

“Are you sure?”

 

“Yes, I just bent down to kiss Keitaro and the baby didn't like that so, it taught me a lesson.” She smiled.

 

`God help that is why I love her.'

 

“Are you feeling all right now Kagome?” Sango asked.

 

“Sango?” Kagome pulled her friend into a hug, or tried to at least. Their protruding bellies made her effort near impossible to accomplish.

 

“Kagome, we were so worried.”

 

“I'm fine, really Sango. I just got a little stressed out that's all.”

 

“Are you hungry Kags?” InuYasha asked as he covered up their son again.

 

“A little, I'm sure Keitaro will be hungry when he gets up though. I have to pee more than anything at the moment though.”

 

“What did the doctor say Kagome?” Sango asked as she helped her friend waddle over to the restroom.

 

“He wanted to keep her overnight for observation.” InuYasha answered. “If he says it's ok, she'll be coming home today. They said it was something called Braxton-Hicks? Anyway, she will be fine if she just rests.”

 

“Thank you Kagome.” Sango said as she nodded her head at InuYasha. Kagome giggled.

 

“Feh, she wouldn't know.”

 

“True, he's managed to keep the doctors at bay.”

 

“What?”

 

“He didn't like the stirrups.” Kagome whispered.

 

“Oh.”

 

“What the hell do they need them for anyway?” InuYasha asked no one in particular.

 

Sango and Kagome just looked at him.

 

“What?”

 

Kagome said nothing as she disappeared into the bathroom. Sango turned to InuYasha.

 

“InuYasha, get her something to eat, she looks really pale. Also, Keitaro needs to get ready for school, don't you think?”

 

“No he's staying home for the day. I've already contacted the school.”

 

“When?”

 

“When it began Sango.”

 

“The contractions?”

 

“DUH.”

 

“Don't DUH me hanyou; I might have to hurt you!”

 

“Keh, if you want to fight I'm up for it slayer!”

 

“InuYasha if you are out there trying to start something- you'll be sorry if I come out of this bathroom!”

 

“InuYasha just tweaked his ears at the door to the bathroom then looked back at Sango.

 

“Look, I'm tired. I need sometime to gather my thoughts and figure it all out. I don't need her to be stressed.”

 

“So go beat up Miroku. Just make sure my daughter is not in his arms.”

 

“Like I'd do something like that. Honestly Sango, I'd make sure that Mai is safe and out of the way.”

 

“INUYASHA!” Kagome yelled from the bathroom. “What are you planning on doing to Miroku?”

 

“IT WAS A JOKE KAGS!” InuYasha and Sango said quickly.

InuYasha sat out in the waiting are as the doctor did one final exam on Kagome before releasing her. Keitaro sat in his fathers lap. He didn't make a move as he could feel InuYasha's tension at `what' was going on in that room. Keitaro looked at his father as InuYasha glared at the closed door to Kagome's room.

 

“Dad?”

 

“Yeah Keitaro?” InuYasha answered, not looking down at the boy in his arms.

 

“Where do babies come from?” That snapped InuYasha from his thoughts.

 

“Uh. What?”

 

“Where-do-babies-come-from?” Keitaro repeated slowly.

 

“Why do you want to know that?”

 

“Uncle Miroku was going to tell me, but aunt Sango said NO and knocked him out.

 

`Thank God.' InuYasha relaxed a bit. `At least Sango stopped him.'

 

“But aunt Sango said that in yours and mommy's case, it had to do with a specific mark and time. What does that mean?” InuYasha closed his eyes and let his head fall back.

 

`Damn you Sango.'

 

“Uh, Keitaro, you're a bit young to know this. I mean you probably won't understand it all.” InuYasha said as he gulped.

 

“Uncle Sesshomaru said that I was con-sieveded on the night of a full moon? What does that mean?” The little boy pressed.

 

`Fucking bastard.' InuYasha remained silent.

 

“He also said that you and mommy made a decision to become mates. That it was a choice that you both made- a promise? He said that only mates could have babies.”

`How's that explain him then?” InuYasha thought bitterly.

 

“Keitaro, only mommies and daddies can have babies.” A sweet and gently voice explained from behind.

 

InuYasha looked up from his son's face into his wife's grinning gaze.

 

“Kagome? Are you all right?” InuYasha asked as he got up and walked over to her. Kagome nodded and smiled.

 

“InuYasha take me home?” InuYasha nodded and took her into his arms.

 

“Oi! We're leaving!” He called to Miroku and Sesshomaru.

 

“Already? Are they sure?” Miroku asked.

 

“Yes, the doctor said that it was false contractions brought on by stress.”

 

“Yes, although I don't know if we will be able to stop it next though Kagome.”

 

The group turned around to face a familiar voice.

 

“Dr. Kota?” Miroku and Sango asked in unison.

 

“Yes, Dr. Kota is my OB/GYN.” Kagome explained.

 

“At least it's someone you know.” Sango said from behind.

 

“And knows what to expect.” Miroku added.

 

“Yes, although I know now that her first was easier than her second will be.”

 

“Why do you say that?” Kagome asked worriedly.

 

“Well, aside from your history your friends were doing me a favor by not telling the father.”

 

“Why's that?” InuYasha snapped.

 

“Uh, InuYasha?” Everyone's eyes turned to see the now seated Kagome. She sat in a wheel chair that the nurse had provided with her hands around Keitaro's waist.

 

“I want to go home InuYasha. Please?”

 

InuYasha forgot the remark from Dr. Kota as he quickly went to Kagome. He looked her over.

 

“Hey doc?” He called not taking his amber gaze away from her chocolate-blue eyes.

 

“Yes?”

 

“Kagome is pale and weak. Not only that but the baby's scent is getting stronger, it won't be long.”

 

Kagome blushed as her mate told everyone in the room what her scent told him and as he gave the doctor a `you'd better be fucking right' look.

 

“InuYasha, the baby still has a month to go. It's going to be a while.” Kagome reasoned.

 

“Keh. I know you wench. It won't be a month, I guarantee it.”

 

“Well, InuYasha may be right Kagome, just the same take it easy.” Dr. Kota then looked at InuYasha over his glasses and motioned him over away from everyone else.

 

“As for you InuYasha, I know that you'll make sure she takes it easy?”

 

“No fucking shit, doc.” InuYasha said loudly.

 

“INUYASHA! YOU SWEAR ONE MORE TIME AND I-”

 

“Kagome, think of the baby now.” Miroku called quietly.

 

“InuYasha I warn you these contractions aren't false. They are real. There is no real need for concern until she loses her mucous plug and her water breaks. Be watching for them both. Until then, try and keep things calm for everyone. All right?”

 

“InuYasha nodded.

 

“Oy. This is going to be hard.” Kagome said as she rubbed her temple with her free hand.

InuYasha had taken Kagome upstairs and laid her their bed then had quickly left to get the sleep Keitaro off the couch and put him in his own room. It had been a while before he came back in. Kagome had fallen asleep, but nonetheless, she sensed his presence.

 

“Inu…Yasha.” Kagome mumbled in her sleep as he pulled her into his arms and nuzzled his head in the crook of her neck.

 

“It's good to have you home babe.” Kagome smiled as she felt him smell her hair. A little while later, she felt a smaller presence come in and wedge himself between them.

 

“Keitaro, watch mommy now.” InuYasha growled warningly. She felt Keitaro move to her front and lay his head on her breast. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around her son and held him tightly.

 

Though Kagome was asleep, she could hear the two conversing as she lay there.

 

“You ok son?”

 

“Not really dad.”

 

“What happened?”

 

“I had a bad dream.”

 

“Keh, demons don't have bad dreams.”

 

“It was dad. It was horrible. I dreamed that mom-.”

 

“Come on son, lets go downstairs and talk. Your momma needs her rest.”

 

Kagome felt the two get from the bed and suddenly she felt incomplete and alone. The life with her belly moved, trying hard to follow the secure presence of it's father. Kagome shuddered and opened her eyes to a moonlit room. Her thoughts were of the past and now the very real threat that came upon her yet again.

 

Naraku.

 

He was out again, he was going to try and find them and he was going to take away her son, her husband- and her family. Everything she had suffered for, everything she had struggled to protect, everything she had died and been brought back for. He was hell bent on destroying it.

 

`He won't get the Shikon no Tama with out a fight.' Kagome thought as she clutched her belly protectively. Suddenly, she felt like she needed to be with InuYasha. She slowly tried to get up, but her protruding belly prevented her from getting up like a normal person.

 

`You need to hurry up and come so I can get up on my own little one.' She thought as she poked her belly gently. She smiled when the baby kicked in protest of the `poking'. She gave up and lay back down.

 

“Good night my men.” She whispered as she drifted off.
