InuYasha's Strength
Chapter 10
Mieko Asa
The meeting was brief to be said. No sooner had they sat down, InuYasha cell phone had gone off. When he answered he said nothing, knowing what it meant. He leapt from his seat and left without a word to anyone. The company owners looked to Sesshomaru for an explanation; he gave them only one sentence.
“He is about to become a father. Shall we get to business? I will go over the contracts with him later.”
-*-*-*-*-*-
InuYasha drove like a maniac to begin with, but when he got the phone call, no one was safe. Fortunately, there was really nobody on the road going to the hospital. His thoughts plagued him like a bad case of take-out. What if he didn't make it time? Was Kagome still mad? Where was she at right now? Shaking these thoughts from his head he put the pedal down. Three stop signs, and two almost-accidents later, he arrived.

Kagome was in a lot of pain. The baby was coming so quick, she was sure that InuYasha wouldn't be there.
`Serves me right.' Kagome thought sadly. `I said all those awful things. He probably doesn't want me anymore. Why would he want to be here when I have the baby?' All her thoughts brought on another contraction. She had asked to be alone for a moment, but the she began to regret it. When the contraction did give in after a few minutes, she began to worry.
“Where are you InuYasha?” she whispered tearfully. “I didn't mean it. I'm sorry. You promised to be here with me.” She closed her eyes as the contraction let up and took a deep breath. She didn't hear the door open, or the hurried steps to her side. She was startled when a strong and loving hand took hers and caressed gently it with a calloused thumb. She opened her eyes and was met with her beloveds amber gaze. She didn't know how, but she shot up and hugged him close. Her gesture was returned.
“I was so scared InuYasha. I was afraid-.”
“You still are, don't be Kags.” Kagome began to sob. “Aw, come on Kags. Don't do that. I can stand it when you cry, you know that.”
“I thought you wouldn't come!” she cried as she held him tighter.
“Why the hell would you think that? Is because of our spiff this morning?”
Kagome only nodded.
“Kags, if I let something like that prevent me from coming to you and being with you while you were giving birth to my child, I would be unworthy of the love that I receive from you. I would be unworthy of being a father. I let my pride get in my way with Keitaro, I won't with my daughter.”
“You still came when I was born, right dad?” A small voice caused them both to jump. Keitaro had entered just as silently as his father. InuYasha held Kagome, but turned to their son.
“Yep. I did, but I wasn't there when you were born. I hate myself for that. I swore that I would always be there for your momma, but I wasn't. So, I promised her the day I married her never to break that vow.” He turned his attention to Kagome. “And I won't. No matter what.”
Kagome buried her head in his chest, taking in his strong and comforting scent.
“I'm sorry. I know you had that business deal today-.”
“Kags, you are more important. Besides, Fluffy is there, he can take care of it.”
“Actually, I find that family is more important as well.” Said an annoyed voice from the door. “Besides, they accepted our contract in a heartbeat. I have yet to sign the final documents, as your eyes would be keener to find any hidden `agreements'.”
“What is this doesn't anyone knock?” InuYasha asked angrily.
“Does your sense of smell elude you little brother?”
“No-.” InuYasha looked outside. “No. Kags tonight is the new moon.”
“So?”
“It's nothing. We'll see what happens.”
-*-*-*-*-*-
InuYasha stayed with Kagome until she fell asleep. He took Keitaro from her arms and left the room.
“Dad?”
“What?”
“We can't leave her alone.”
“I know. We are just going to get a snack. Then I'm going to send you home with Uncle Miroku and Aunt Sango. They will bring you back in the morning.”
“No! Dad I want to be here when the baby comes!”
“Keitaro, your mother is exhausted. I'm trying to fight off Jet Lag, and hunger. I will not argue with you. If the baby isn't here by your bedtime, then Sango and Miroku will take you home. If the baby comes in the middle of the night, I'll call them and let them know.”
“But dad! My bedtimes only three hours away! The baby might not come!”
“Keitaro.” A little voice called from the waiting room as they passed by. InuYasha watched as his son stopped and looked back.
“What's the matter Mai?”
“You told me that daddies are here to take care of the mommies when they have babies. Did you lie?”
“No!”
“Then, why won't you listen to your daddy?”
“Mai, you must get your brains from your mother.” InuYasha said proudly.
“I know that Mai. Dad can take care of her but I want to be here when the baby comes!”
“I wasn't there when Taro came.” Keitaro sighed.
“Fine, if the baby isn't here at my bedtime then I'll go with Auntie and Uncle.”
InuYasha smiled.
“All right. Thank you son for trusting me.”
“I always trust you dad, I just want to help.”
“Well, can you make sure the house is ready for your little sister? It needs to be clean and the beds still need to be made.”
“Mom made all the beds.”
“The baby bed too?”
“No.”
“Then. I need you to take care of that for me. The baby will need a place to sleep.”
“Ok.”
“InuYasha.” Miroku came out of the waiting room followed by Sango who held Taro.
“Hey, can you guys get him something to eat? I need to get back to Kags.”
“Yeah. InuYasha, is everything all right?”
“Yeah. Why?”
“Because of that fight this morning?”
“It's not an issue. I'm glad she safe, she's glad I'm here.”
Miroku nodded and Sango sighed.
“So, will you guys take him home around eight?”
“Why? Don't you want him to be here?”
“I do, but. I don't know what this whole thing holds. I'd rather him not be here if it should bring up any memories.”
“Got it.”
“Thanks.”
-*-*-*-*-*-
Eight o'clock came and went. Keitaro cried as Kagome reassured him. She for the most part was grateful that InuYasha had made the decision to make him go home, but it broke her heart to see him cry.
“Don't worry Keitaro; daddy will call just as soon as the baby gets here. Ok?”
Keitaro nodded as InuYasha stepped forward and gathered him in his arms. It was evident to all that the little boy, though half demon, was exhausted.
“Don't worry Keitaro. I won't let anything happen to you momma ok?”
Again Keitaro nodded and Kagome smiled. InuYasha handed the little boy to Miroku and watched as they left.
“Thank you InuYasha.”
“For what Kags?”
“I didn't want him to be here when the baby came.”
“Really?”
“I was afraid something might happen. Some memories or-.”
“I know that's why I did this.”
“You did what I couldn't.”
“That's what I'm here for. To do what you can't, and vice versa with you.”
“That's what love is all about huh?”
“No, love is something we have given life. Keitaro is proof of our love as is Mieko.”
“Mieko?”
“That's her name.”
“No fair. I didn't get to name Keitaro.”
“Yes you did.”
“What?”
“Sango said that you had chosen the name the day you found out you were pregnant.”
Kagome looked thoughtful for a moment, and then blushed as the memory came back.
*****Flashback*****
“Kagome? Are you ok?”
“Yeah. I just can't believe it.”
“Well, that's what happens when you mate on a full moon or was it the new moon?”
“Full moon.”
“Wow. So what are you going to name it?”
“I don't know.”
“Well, let's start off with some names. How about InuYasha Jr.? Or the Second?”
“No. It can't have anything to do with him.”
“Why?”
“Because. He's getting married remember? He and I have known each other for a long time and any name that is remotely similar to him or his family would be a dead give away, not to mention a threat to their honor.”
“Are you afraid of them coming after you?”
“No.” Kagome sighed. “I guess really this baby is a blessing in disguise. I could never love anyone else but I can never have him either.”
“So?”
“The baby will look like him. I know it. I'll even go as far to plan for a boy.”
“Must be maternal instinct.”
“Or demon. His blood still flows in my veins you know.”
“What about your father?”
“The talisman should hide the evidence from him. At least until I figure out something.”
“So, back to the name? What is it?”
“Little blessing. What is the name for that? Keitaro?”
“Keitaro? I like it. Keitaro.”
“Ok, Keitaro if it's a boy. If it's a girl-.”
“I thought you knew it was a boy?” Sango smirked.
“You're right. Keitaro.” Kagome rubbed her belly. “I can't wait.”
*****End of Flashback*****
“Kags?”
“Mieko, huh?”
“Yep.”
“What's her middle name?”
“I haven't got that far yet.”
“Can I choose it then?”
“As long as it's within reason.” InuYasha smirked.
“Fine. Give me sometime and I'll-.”
Then the contractions began. InuYasha was a scared as Kagome as the both of them didn't know what to expect. This was their first actual birth. Their first child to be born and to be able to live on her own. Keitaro had been ripped from her, as this child was to be born from her.
All the fears that comes with being a new parent went through their heads as time passed. All the `what ifs? Or, `Will she like me?' Or, `what will happen?'
All those thoughts ended just as the sun arose from its slumber.
“One last push Kagome!” Dr. Kota called from below. “Come on!”
InuYasha watched as his beloveds face contorted with pain. The scent of her blood, pain and other body fluids reached his nose as the baby's head had first appeared. It was stronger now, and InuYasha wanted it to come quickly. Kagome's pain was killing him. Then the room went silent as the baby emerged from her mothers pain filled body and took her first breath and let out an angry cry.
“It's a girl!” Dr. Kota said happily as he handed her to one of the nurses to be clean. InuYasha followed the nurse as she placed his daughter in the cleaning cradle next to Kagome's bed. The little girl appeared human, as it had none of his hair, claws or ears. His heart sank a little but he quickly set it aside. Kagome's scent was all over the little girl, but Mieko's scent was underneath it. Her scent was familiar, and it was comforting.
“InuYasha.” Kagome whispered as she panted. “What does she look like?”
“You.”
“Are you almost done Nurse? The young mother would like to see her daughter.”
The nurse handed InuYasha the pink bundle and smiled. InuYasha hesitated for a minute before turning to Kagome.
“She is beautiful Kagome. Mieko was the right name for her.”
“Mieko Asa.” Kagome whispered as he handed their daughter to her lovingly. Kagome gasped as she saw her and tears filled her eyes.
“InuYasha.” Kagome whispered. “She's human.”
“It's ok Kags.”
“InuYasha-.”
“Kags. Don't worry. Everything will be ok.”
Kagome sighed and looked at her daughter. The little girl's eyes opened for the first time and met Kagome's chocolate gaze with her amber.
“InuYasha, she has your eyes.”
“I told you it'd be all right.”
“Mieko Asa.” Kagome whispered. “Beautiful Blessing Given at Dawn.”
“Perfect. I should have found a name that had perfection in it.”
“No, her name has it written in it, but she is perfection. Just like her big brother.”
“Yeah, I guess I'd better call them.”
“You'd better. You promised.”
-*-*-*-*-*-
Keitaro was the first one to enter the room as they arrived. He went directly to his mother side, to make sure she was ok and then turned to his father.
“Well? Where is she dad?”
“Right there.” InuYasha said as pointed behind the little boy. The little boy turned and walked up to the cradle.
“What's her name dad?”
“Mieko Asa. What do you think?”
“Perfect.”
