Chapter 11

Entrapment

 

She sat in her cell rocking back and forth. She wanted to forget the events of that night, but couldn't. All she had to do was say a name, but she couldn't find her voice. Every time she tried, her heart felt like it was in her throat or she felt sick. She didn't want to go over that night again, but knew she had to. If she didn't it would happened to someone else. She couldn't let that happen. He had raped her and he wasn't going to get away with it.

 

No. InuYasha would pay. Her mouth moved faster than her mind as she shot to her feet and shouted.

 

“Guard!”

 

“This isn't a prison Satsuki.” The `guard' explained. “This is a place for you to be until we are sure you are ok to be by yourself.”

 

“I'm ready. I need to talk to a detective.”

He had worked on many cases of rape, incest and murder before. But her case was disturbing. Nothing fit. The evidence, the place the situation. Nothing. Now she wanted to talk. He had waited for her sanity to return to some degree so as to get a statement. The girl had been in a coma for a day or so. When she woke up, she was hysterical. They had done a rape kit, as it was obvious that she had been raped. The evidence had yet to come back. He had seen this pattern before though. He had been arrested on murder charges and tried and sentenced. He had escaped, so naturally, he was behind this girl's rape.

 

“Detective Myoga!” A voice called to him as he approached the front desk of the mental ward.

 

“Dr. Souten! How are you?”

 

“I'll be much better when we get to the bottom of this.”

 

“Why is that?”

 

“Satsuki is my fiancées niece.”

 

“Oh I am sorry.”

 

“Now she is ready to talk about her experience. But I think it needs to be done quickly before she changes her mind.”

 

“Lead the way Tan.”

 

Myoga followed the young doctor to the end of the hall where he was shown into a conference room. The girl sat at the end of the table with a woman and a nurse on either side of her. Myoga approached the girl carefully.

 

“Satsuki Donato?”

 

The girl nodded.

 

“I am detective Myoga. I understand that you have something to tell me.”

 

Again the girl only nodded.

 

“Very well. I will be recording this conversation. Do you approve?”

 

“Yes.”

 

“Wonderful. Let's begin.”

 

So, Satsuki went through the events of that night as she could remember. She stopped only once to cry, but continued to the very end. From her depiction of the events, Myoga had no doubt as to whom it was, but was shocked at her next statement.

 

“Then he told me to remember that he-InuYasha- was my first.”

 

“InuYasha?”

 

“Yes.”

 

“Tell me, do you remember anything about this man?”

 

“He was youkai.”

 

“Youkai?”

 

“Yes.”

 

“How could you tell?”

 

“He had fangs and claws and dog like ears.”

 

“I see. Thank you Satsuki. I will be in touch. You however young lady, you get well soon. You are too young to be in a place like this. Remember, the man that did this to you is a predator; he wants you to be afraid. It only gives him satisfaction.”

 

The girl nodded and Myoga left.

 

This was really not right. Nothing fit. InuYasha was going to be a father soon. He was a prosperous business man who had married a woman to save her honor. But then, he married the girl Kagome because she had his child.

 

“Kagome.” Myoga remembered the night he came upon the scene. He shook his head trying to evade the memory. `So much blood. It's truly a miracle she and the baby survived. Only InuYasha is that determined to save life and honor. He couldn't have done this.'

InuYasha helped Kagome up the stair of their home. She was still exhausted from the birth of their daughter, but she was home and that was all that mattered. As she lay on their bed, their daughter cries from downstairs. Kagome groans and sits back up.

 

“No Kagome. Lay back and relax.”

 

“InuYasha, Mieko needs to eat.”

 

“Then I'll bring her to you. Just sit back and relax.”

 

Kagome didn't argue. She lay back down and watched as InuYasha left. Minutes later the crying stopped and the telephone rang. She was exhausted, but she was more curious. Silently, she got up and went downstairs. She peered around the corner before continuing. She froze when she heard InuYasha's voice.

 

“What the hell? NO! Myoga, look I was here that night. I was here with Kagome and Keitaro. Yes, I'm sure! Because it was the night she was released from the hospital.”

 

Kagome walked into the kitchen. Something was wrong, and he wasn't going to hide it from her. As she entered he turned around and met her worried gaze. As held Mieko in his arms, he held the phone tightly. Kagome watched his face as he saw her. It went from angry to calm in a matter of seconds.

 

“Yeah Myoga. I'll be there in about two hours, all right? Better to get it out of the way and get on with my life. Yeah.” He hung up the phone and threw on the counter then turned his attention to Kagome.

 

“What are you doing up?”

 

“I heard the phone ring.”

 

“Yeah, so?”

 

“I also couldn't hear the baby.”

 

“She's asleep. What else?”

 

“You know what else.”

 

“Kagome, get back to bed. You need rest.”

 

“InuYasha, what was that all about?”

 

“Nothing I can't handle.”

 

“InuYasha, don't hide it from me! I haven't seen you so upset since the night I had those contractions!”

 

“Kagome, don't worry about it!”

 

“InuYasha don't tell me not to worry about it!”

 

Suddenly a small but clear cry came from the bundle in InuYasha's arms. InuYasha smelt the infant's sudden fear as her parent's voices became raised.

 

“What's going on in here?” Sango asked as she walked in. Following her was Miroku and Keitaro.

 

“Nothing.”

 

“I don't know he won't tell me.”

 

“InuYasha?” Miroku asked. “You do know that marriage is something that you share right?”

 

“She doesn't need to worry about it! How do you know it's not a surprise or something?” `Hell of a surprise.'

 

“No surprise is worth the anger I saw when I came in here InuYasha. At least not a good surprise.” Kagome said firmly.

 

“I'll tell you later. Right now I've got to head to town. I have meeting and I can't miss it.”

 

“What kind of meeting?” Miroku asked.

 

“One I can't miss.” InuYasha said as he handed the baby to Sango. “Make sure that Kagome gets some sleep for me? I'll call when I get out ok?” With that he kissed the baby on the forehead and turned to Kagome. Kagome's face was contorted with fear and a silent pain. InuYasha couldn't stand to look at her, but he swept her up in his arms earning a surprised squeak from her as he did.

 

“You, my mate are going to bed. I will tell you about it later. I promise.”

 

Kagome nodded and buried her face into his chest as he carried her upstairs to their room and laid her on their bed.

 

“InuYasha, you will tell me right?”

 

“I promised didn't I? When I get back.” With that he kissed her gently and squeezed her hand. Now get some sleep baby.”

 

Kagome nodded and closed her eyes. As sleep overcame her weary body, she could help but feel that something was amiss. She dismissed it knowing that InuYasha would tell her what it was when he returned.

 

Downstairs, InuYasha had Sango, Miroku, Koga, Ayame and Kagome's mother sitting in the front room. Taro was in Sango's arms, and Mieko was in Mrs. H's arms. Keitaro was sitting next to Mai in between Miroku and Koga.

 

“I don't know how long this meeting is going to take.” InuYasha started. “But, I need someone to be close by for Kagome just in case.

 

“You don't have to worry so much anymore InuYasha.” Ayame said quietly. “She had the baby, so there-.”

 

“Wrong Ayame.” Koga said suddenly. “InuYasha doesn't have to think of just Kagome anymore, but Keitaro and Mieko. Naraku is the threat that he is trying to protect them from.”

 

“Right.” InuYasha said. “For now, I have to go to the police station and set a few things straight.” He watched his friends and family get worried looks and turning to look at each other. “It'll be fine. Just, some needs to stay with her until I get back ok?”

 

“I will.” Kagome's mother said from her place on the couch. “I can help her with anything she needs and I don't really have anything else to do.”

 

“Thanks mom.” InuYasha said as he grabbed his jacket from the couch. “I'll be back. Sango, Miroku? Have your cell on just incase mom needs anything ok?”

 

“Dad!”

 

“Keitaro, make sure your mom isn't alone ok? We don't want her to have anymore bad dreams right?”
