chapter 4
-" Kagome.....you must of not heard our entire conversation. I told Kikyou I was done protecting her.....That I swore myself to someone else.... No...Kagome...Don't interupt. I need to get this out."
He took a deep breath and poured out his heart.-
His amber eyes just watched her as he took a moment to gather his thoughts before allowing
himself the courage to speak, before long he smiled down to her. His heart filling with love.
" Kagome.....my Kagome. Through all of this, you have been at my side. Without any questions asked.
And selfishly....I would run after Kikyou whenever she needed me. No matter how you felt. There were
even times that you sent me off with a smile....knowing it hurt you inside. You were always there to hold my
hand when I would get frustrated about not finding Kikyou..or her remains. Kagome, you of all people taught me
how to live and trust again. It was your pure heart and never ending trust that has allowed me to become the
person I am standing before you. You trusted me and counted on my protecting you even after I tried to take the
jewel from you when we first met......."
He had paused to look at the ground, feeling ashamed of the past and of the things he had done to her. Kagome in
that moment took her chance to smile and offer her few words.
" Inuyasha.....how could I not trust you? You have risked your life for me time and time again....Without question
or doubt in your mind. I told you a long time ago that I understood where you were coming from with Kikyou....Remember
the last time we stood at this well....having this same conversation? the only difference with then and now.....is that..."
Kagome's cheeks burned and she couldn't find the words to tell him.
Inuyasha was relieved...he could see that she loved him too. -How did I get this lucky?-
She cleared her throat and set her expression as best she could, all the while she pulled away from him and turned away.
" However, I can't stay here anymore. I thought my young heart could take it. Seeing you and Kikyou....", she began crying softly.
"I CAN'T! Inuyasha!" He took hold of her instantly. Touching her hair, muttering loving words.
"You don't have to anymore Kagome....Kikyou is in the past.....I will think of her from time to time.....considering she was my first love.
But......but...Oh Kami...help me. Kagome..." he tilt her chin up to him.
" You...just you are in my heart. I will give my last breath if it meant you could live. Please, don't leave.
I don't think I can finish this without you. Please....stay with me. Here...right now"
Kagome's dark hues widened at his words and she smiled to him before nodding.
" O..Okay, Inuyasha. I will stay with you."
He leaned down without hesitation or any other thought and kissed her. Warmly and full of passion. He held her close to his heart, nuzzling his face
into her throat once their kiss had broken.
The miko's cheeks were burning brightly, and her heart raced. She hid her face into his chest, only to find the locket she had given him before
they had been trapped in the castle beyond the mirror. She chuckled inside . -And he said he didn't need it.....baka.-
"Come on Kagome.....we should head back. Tomorrow we find Naraku and finish this."
He had that child like grin on his lips, as he knelt with his back to her, Kagome climbed on and they were off.
Before either of them noticed they were back at camp.
All too soon he released her legs and Kagome slid off. She looked to her sleeping bag where the young kistune was sleeping and then back to Inuyasha,
who hadn't jumped into his tree yet. The sight that met her eyes caused a small blush and a shy grin.
He had been holding his hand out to her.
Stepping towards him slowly, Kagome placed her small hand in his.
A moment later, they were settled against the trunk of a tree, Kagome settled in his lap, Inuyasha
holding onto her protectively.
They watched the sky for a bit, though no words were said.
Inuyasha enjoyed this feeling, and lightly touched the bare skin of her hands as they rested in her lap.
Yes, this was right. This woman in his arms was his....forever.
He loved her more then anything. Though throughout that conversation...neither of them had uttered
the words.
"Kagome...?"
" Hmm....?" He looked down at her to see she was nearly dreaming.
He leaned down to nuzzle her cheek and whisper, " I love you."
"Mm.....I love you...Inu..y.asha.." She was asleep, he doubted she knew what she was saying.
But the heat of her cheeks and the sudden skip in her heart beats told him she knew.
He rested his head back on the trunk and smiled.
- I promise Kagome....I will protect you.....Always"
