Chapter 5

The sun was high overhead before the Inu-group finally stopped
to rest.Inyuasha allowed Kagome to slid down his back and he
had to force awaythe shiver that swept over him at the softest
touch of her skin.
Sango had been the first to notice the change in the pair and
she couldonly smile to herself.
- So they finally confessed the love thathas been unspoken of
for years!!-
She stole a glance at the monk whom recently done the same
and she blushed softly.
Thoughts back to that faithful day washed over her. Miroku had
suffered terrible injuries that day by her own hand if she
would recall. A terrible demon was posessing a village of women
at the time and she had befallen the same fate. Thankfully Miroku
'knocked some sense back into her' so to speak. And they shared
quite the moment beside the lake.
-I shouldn't be thinking such things now!!-
A hand flew to her face to cover the dark crimson stain of her
cheeks.
-Ah....Sango. Even when she blushes it takes my breath from
my very lungs-
Miroku sat beside Kagome though he watched his love closely.
He could tell that she was thinking of their moment by the lake.
Hell, he thought of it every other waking moment.
When had he fallen so in love with the firey demon slayer?
Kami knows.....for he did not. A soft sigh left those lips
and he thought of when their first kiss will be. He thought
of many ' other' things which earned him a good knock over
the head.
"Hentai...." Grumbled Sango. She knew his looks....and right
now they were settling on thoughts of them, entwinged in the
throes of passion. Wait! Wasn't she thinking along the same
lines? Sango chuckled lightly...
-I'm no better then he.-
In the meantime, Kagome had started a fire and was cooking
the fish Shippo and Inuyasha had just caught in a near by
spring. She poked at the fire absently, her thoughts
drifiting back to the night before.
-" Kagome......." " Hmm...?" " I love you...." -
- Had he really said that......or was I dreaming?-
"Oi...Kagome....." -The sound of Inuyasha's voice brought
her out of her day dreaming only to realize that the fish
was going to burn soon.
" No Damn!! Ouch!"
Foolishly, she had tried grabbing the fish. Inuyasha moved
quickly to grab her back and remove the fish from the fire
before turning to her. A frown of concern etched his
beautiful face. He fished out the already ripped hankerchief
she had given him and torn off a few strips and then
proceeded to wrap her burnt fingertips.
Shippo and Kirara helped themselves to the fish while Miroku
smiled and thanked Sango for handing him one.
All save the hanyou and miko ate. Inuyasha motioned
towards the trees,and she nodded. A moment later they sat
snuggled against the bark of the large trunk. Inuyasha held
her close as she fingered a bit of his hair.
Hours past as the two sat in silence. Neither feeling that
words were needed. Their souls spoke volumes that mere
words could never surpass.
It was nearly night when Kikyou called on the hanyou again.
Kagome had fallen asleep sometime ago, her fingers still
wrapped in his hair. Amber hues looked down to the girl....
no the woman...his woman...in his embrace before looking off
in the direction of kikyou's scent.
" Not this time Kikyou.....I'm needed....right here."
He muttered. Kikyou had appeared at the forest edge,
and nearly growled at the sight them sitting so close
in the tree.
"Inuyasha......I will not allow you to forget me! As
long as I walk this Earth, your life belongs to me....
and I will NOT give it to anyone else.
Especially....my reincarnation. Your heart is my.....always"
With that, she left. Inuyasha sighed, dipping his head to
hide his eyes beneath the veil of his bangs.
"Inuyasha....?"
He looked to Kagome. - I hope she wasn't awake-
"Rest Kagome, Naraku is near, and I will need your help."
He lifted his gaze to the forest, always on guard.
She remained silent for a moment before responding.
" Thank you...."
He blinked and looked to her to respond again, but she
had been asleep again.
He could only smile at her sleeping form and pressed
a kiss to her forehead.
Suddenly the hanyou frowned and looked up. Without another
thought he flew off the branch, Kagome in his arms,
and landed just as the tree exploded.
"Kagura!" The scent of the wind demoness drifted down to him.
Kagome stirred at the noise and awoke swiftly.
" Shikon Shards......they are coming this....and very fast!"
He nodded silently and pushed her towards the others
before unseathing Tessaiga.
" Naraku! Show yourself bastard!"
The skies turned a dark sickly purple as the demon
Naraku himself appeared.
"Inuyasha...Are you prepared to die?" He gave an evil laugh
just before three of his strongest puppets flew at the group.
One landing in front of Inuyasha and the other two were blocking
him from Kagome and the others. He growled and attacked.
"Kaze no Kizu!!!!" He screamed loudly as a blast of engery
sailed towards the first puppet. He noticed a purfying arrow
connect with his attack and cause the puppet to disappear.
Kikyou had shown her face again, this time she appeared
beside Inuyasha.
"Naraku! Tonight....I will guide you to hell!"
She shot another arrow at him, which he moved to dodge it.
"Kikyou.....the dead still walks I see. No matter....I
will kill you for certain this time. "
Naraku nodded at Kohaku and Kagura to join the fight.
Both seemed resistant but followed orders in order to
save their own lives.
"Kohaku!" Was heard from Sango as he landed soundlessly in
front of her. She could see the tears flowing from his eyes.
They begged her not to fight him.
"Anu eue...." (if thats not right im sorry!!) He lifted his
weapon and aimed it for her. Closing his eyes, Kohaku let it
fly towards her, though it missed her by a few good feet.
Sango finally understood what happened to her younger brother.
She remembered this 'mock fighting.' They used it while
training. Her heart soared as she engaged such fighting with
him. Allowing him to come as close as possible. But within
safety of course.
Naraku had been so involved with Inuyasha that he didn't notice
or maybe he didn't care anymore. The damned demon thought he was
going to win this battle. His puppets were long gone and now he
was in combat with Inuyasha head on.
Kagome was hiding behind the tree from before with Shippou
clutching her leg. Poised with an arrow aimed at Naraku, she
opened her senses more to look for Naraku's heart.
She felt a beat. Almost like a heart beat.
-There! Behind him!-
Sure enough there stood Kanna with Naraku's baby. His heart
which he expelled in the last rearranging of his body.
If she could only just hit it.
Dark hues sought out kikyou, who was trying to fend off Kagura
with Miroku passed out beside her. His arm had turned
a ghastly black color from sucking in too much posion.
-Kikyou....-
The priestess seemed to hear her, because she looked over
the young miko and where her line of vision was going.
She nodded slowly, before sending another arrow more
powerful then before in Kagura's direction.
Kagura dodged it, only to fly higher and out of harms way.
-Oh please.....finish him off already! I want to be free-
Kagome came out from behind the tree and stood beside Kikyou,
together they drew arrows and knelt in prayer.
Kikyou was shaking badly and her skin was torn beyond
understanding in places. Her few remaining souls began
to leave her before they could finish their task.
Kikyou closed her eyes and fell face first into the dirt.
"Kikyou!!" Inuyasha cried at the top of his lungs.
Bad mistake....Naraku took this chance to stab Inuyasha
harshly in the midsection. Releasing some of his posion
into the wound. The hanyou was jerked up into the air and
brought down with a sickening thud to the ground.
The world seemed to stop for a moment. Everyone ceased
in their battles to watch Inuyasha be stabbed and
knocked out.
"INUYASHA!!!!!!!!!!"
