Chapter 3: Mask

Nearing Lady Kaede's hut Kagome paused took a deep breath and straightened her posture to mask the emotions that were stirring inside her.

She stepped to the doorway she was trampled by an energetic kitsune.

"Kagome! I'm so happy your back. Did you bring me anything? Did you come back early cause you missed me? When can I visit your time? Can-"

"Slow down Shippou-Chan let me have a seat first." Kagome interrupted the kitsune.

She sat down in Lady Kaede's hut observing that no one was there except Shippou.

"Shippou-Chan where are the others?" she asked the kitsune whose small arms were still hugging her neck.

"Lady Kaede is nursing a young woman in the village, Sango is washing her Hiraikotsu with Kirara, and I think Miroku followed them and Inuyasha-"

"I saw him on the way here." She cut him off again through gritted teeth.

"What's wrong, was he acting like a baka again?"

"You can say that." She uttered not wanting to trouble the young kitsune with what she recently witnessed.

"So, did you bring me anything?" Shippou asked again looking to her over-packed bag.

"As a matter-of-fact I did. How would you like some chocolate?"

Shippou nodded his head happily. He loved the sweets his surrogate mother would bring him.

Kagome handed him two chocolate bars.

"Don't eat it all at once, I don't want you anymore hyper that you already are." Kagome said in a motherly tone.

"Now let's go catch up with Sango."

"Ok!" Shippou said while hopping onto Kagome's shoulder, "she should be at the hot springs."

Kagome and Shippou made it to the hot springs finding Miroku unconscious with a lump on his head and Sango mumbling obscenities under her breath while wiping down her weapon.

Kagome couldn't help but giggle causing Sango to swing around.

"Kagome-sama! I'm so happy you're here." The demon exterminator said pulling Kagome into a tight embrace.

"What did the monk do this time?" Kagome said between uncontrollable giggles.

"You know that horny houshi, he just never learns. One of these days he'll get it through his thick skull.

They looked at Shippou try to wake up the monk but to no avail. He then gave up and preoccupied himself with the fire-cat demon, Kirara.

"I need to talk, Sango" Kagome said seriously to her close friend.

"Sure, what's wrong Kagome-sama?"

"Hold on"

Kagome kneeled down to Shippou who was petting the purring Kirara.

"Shippou-Chan, Sango and I are going for a walk. Can you stay here with Miroku for in-case he wakes up?"

He pouted for a second but quickly came up with an idea to menace the monk when he woke.

"Ok, don't worry about me." He answered with a mischievous grin on his face.

Kagome gave him a tickle and returned to her friends' side. When out of earshot of the others, Kagome broke out in tears on Sango's shoulder.

Sango was caught off guard but her reflexes made her pat her distraught friends back.

'What could be wrong she was perfectly fine a few seconds ago.' Sango wondered to herself.

"How could he be so cruel" Kagome blubbered out.

"Who Kagome-sama?" Sango questioned with concern.

"Inu………Inu………Inuyasha!" the young miko wept.

"What did he do?"

"It's not what he did it's what he's doing and has been doing ever since I released him from the God's tree!"

"What do you mean?"

"He knew how I felt for him but I was too blinded to see that I was only a shard detector to him. All these times he would try and protect me it would only be because he didn't want to lose his shard detector not, Kagome! He admitted it Sango, and………I saw him………having sex with another youkai," Kagome flinched at her own words, "he didn't even care, he just told me that once he got the jewel I can go home and stay there." Kagome wept harder.

Sango was speechless and enraged. She had never seen Kagome so agitated with anxiety. She took her in her arms and coaxed her to calm down.

"Can you do me a favor?"

"Anything, Kagome-sama." Sango said eager to help her friend in anyway.

"Please don't say anything to Miroku and please don't confront Inuyasha, I have my own plans for him." Kagome sniffed ending her sentence with a smirk.

Sango nodded.

Lord Sesshumaru the half brother of the hanyou Inuyasha watched Kagome that day come out of the well with plans of kidnapping her, but found her quite entertaining. He watched her lose her temper with Inuyasha when she found him with his mistress.

Sesshumaru was impressed with the control she had over the hanyou and he watched her storm away from the two, filled with many different emotions that made Sesshumaru curious.

He enjoyed watching how unpredictable she was.

He was waiting for the right moment to strike.
