Chapter 4: Goodbye

The girls returned to see Miroku awake and chasing Shippou while trying to hit him with his staff.

Kagome ran and scooped up the frightened kitsune.

"Miroku what's wrong with you, why are you terrorizing my sweet little kitsune?" she shrieked out full of rage and at the same time petting Shippou's tail affectionately.

Miroku stopped infuriated with the kitsune's antics, but was too embarrassed to explain what happened.

"Sorry Kagome-sama." The monk said with his head low hoping it would end there but was sure the kitsune wouldn't drop it yet.

"How can you say sorry to Kagome when it was me you tried to beat to death?" Shippou squeaked in bewilderment.

"I believe it is you that should apologize." Miroku said sternly to Shippou who was safely on Kagome's back.

"Shippou tell me what happened."

The kitsune gave the same grin that Kagome left him with.

"Well………when I saw him start to wake up all I did was transform into Sango only as a joke-"

"That wasn't funny!" Miroku cut in.

"Anyway," the kitsune continued, rolling his eyes, "he got all googly eyed and tried to touch me like he does Sango so I smacked him and changed back. I told him it was a joke but he continued to try and kill me!"

Kagome looked up at Miroku and saw his face go from a pale white to a rose red.

She busted out with laughter when Sango stepped to Miroku and slapped him with great force causing the monk to go cross-eyed from the impact.

"That's for trying to grope me again and you deserve the prank Shippou pulled." Sango huffed turning her back to him.

"Domo, that wasn't even really you." Miroku responded trying to readjust his eyesight.

"Besides the point." She muttered back.

Kagome discontinued her high-pitched giggles.

"Come on guys, let's go back to the village and get some grub. I don't know about you guys but I'm starved." Kagome said bringing the quarrel to an end.

The foursome sat in Lady Kaede's hut eating lunch with tension still between the monk and the demon exterminator.

Fortunately the kitsune brought comic relief to the group by continuing his antics.

"Feh, all you people can do is stuff your faces and play around when we still have shards to find." Growled the intolerable Inuyasha.

Sango gave the hanyou a piercing look but quickly changed it into a fake smile when Kagome shot a 'please don't' look.

"Funny you should say that Inuyasha because you have been gone since daybreak." Miroku inquired while sipping his tea.

"Where I was doesn't matter, all that matters is that I'm here now and ready to find more shards," he said gruffly.

"You smell funny Inuyasha." Shippou blurted out while sniffing the already pissed off hanyou.

Inuyasha grabbed the curious kitsune by his fluffy tail and growled out, "I smell fine, thank you very much!"

Kagome hopped to her heels and rescued Shippou once again.

"Sit! Keep your hands off my kitsune, Inuyasha or you will soon be buried in the ground that you have your face in!" Kagome screamed ignoring the growls that were growing louder as the charm wore off.

Shippou enjoyed the protection he was receiving from his surrogate mother but she seemed much angrier that all the other times Inuyasha would taunt him.

Inuyasha's charm wore off completely and he brought himself to his feet.

"You'll regret that, wench!" he bellowed out in rage.

"Oh really." She said briskly passing him by with Shippou placed securely in her arms, "Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit!"

Miroku watched Inuyasha endure every last sit charm given to him and wondered what he could have done to piss the young miko off so much. He had never seen her this angry before. Her aura changed from kindness to bitterness and pure hate.

"Am I missing something?" the monk asked out loud confusedly.

Kagome took Shippou to a secluded spot in the forest.

"Okasaan, is everything ok?" the kitsune asked with genuine concern.

Kagome couldn't hold her tears any longer just being in Inuyasha's presence made her feel outraged so she held the confused kitsune close to her.

"Oh, Shippou-Chan, I hate for you to see me like this." She wailed holding Shippou even closer.

"It's okay he makes me mad too sometimes." Shippou said trying his best to comfort her.

'Your so innocent, only if you knew.' Kagome thought to herself.

Not too far away Sesshumaru was perched on a tall tree watching the sappy scene between the miko and young kitsune.

Now was the perfect time to take the miko. Even though he was sure his half brother didn't care about her much he still needed her to locate the remaining shards.

What made his plan most efficient was that the shards already collected hung around the miko's neck, so his brother would have to go searching for the wench.

Sesshumaru flew and landed flawlessly in front of the miko and her kitsune startling them out of their embrace.

"Sess………shu………maru." The kitsune stuttered out.

Sesshumaru ignored the kitsune keeping his gaze glued to Kagome.

"Shippou go get the others quick!" Kagome instructed the kitsune returning her gaze to the Western Lord.

"Domo, what about you?"

"Go NOW! I can handle myself." She assured Shippou.

Shippou left her side reluctantly.

"What do you want Sesshumaru?" she asked shakily.

"I'm not here to kill you but to take you away for awhile. Just until I get what I want then maybe I will consider sparing your life." Sesshumaru said expressionlessly.

Kagome looked at him actually considering going with the youkai lord, it would help her plan to gain revenge for Inuyasha's deceit.

"Fine, but take me away in front of that worthless hanyou." She responded with cold eyes.

Shocked and pleased by her response he gave her one last look and said,

"The hanyou will be here momentarily."

Kagome nodded her head and stepped closer to Sesshumaru with very little uncertainty of what she was getting herself into.

"Sesshumaru!" bellowed Inuyasha who came into view shortly afterward.

"Goodbye, Inuyasha." Kagome said harshly and clasps herself to Sesshumaru who then lifted them above ground and disappeared leaving nothing but a streak of light behind them.

She was gone before Inuyasha could even react.

His face showed nothing more that utter confusion.
