“I still can't believe it! We finally defeated Naraku!” Kagome exclaimed, almost falling off Inuyasha's back. “Quit movin' around! You're gonna fall off and, considerin' how fast we're goin', it might hurt.” “Sorry, Inuyasha. I'm just so excited. Now we only have three jewel shards left and we already know where they are.” “Which ones do we still need, Kagome?” Sango asked, glancing back at Miroku, who was still staring into his right palm. “Well, the two in Kouga's legs, of course. And, um, there's still Kohaku…” Kagome trailed off and looked over at Sango. Tears had begun to form in her eyes, which she quickly wiped away. “Uh, Sango…” Kagome began. “I'm okay, Kagome. I know what has to be done. It's for the good of everyone. Besides, I know that with Naraku gone, Kohaku is no longer under his spell and will finally be at peace in death.” Kagome smiled at the courage her friend showed. “Just like Kikyo. Is now. She built her funeral pyre a few days okay. I'm sure she's at peace now, as Kohaku will be.” Inuyasha grumbled at the sound of Kikyo's name. He knew that, with Kikyo gone, it was clear whom he would choose for a mate. But when would be the right time to ask her? After all the shards were collected? Inuyasha shook his head and suddenly began sniffing the air. “What is it, Inuyasha?” “I smell… Kouga.”

 

Inuyasha stopped running and Kirara descended from the air. “Well, well, well. If isn't the mutt who keeps tryin' to steal my woman from me.” Kouga said, winking at Kagome. “How many times do I hafta tell ya, Kouga. She ain't your woman!” Inuyasha growled, hand on his Tetsuiga. “Inuyasha, sit, boy!” Kagome yelled, causing Inuyasha to do as face plant. Kouga ran swiftly to Kagome's side and took her hands in his “Ah, I see you've wised up and decide to leave that mutt.” “Actually, Kouga,” she began, moving his hands, “we came for the jewel shards in your legs.” “That's right. So hand `em over, or I may just have to get forceful with ya,” Inuyasha added as he hopped up from the ground. Kagome grumbled and yelled, “Sit! Sit! Sit!” Inuyasha did multiple face plants as the others looked on in wonder. “So, Kouga, if you would,” “Be my guest, Kagome. With Naraku gone, I don't really need `em. I can beat any of these deadbeat youkai around here with just one punch.” Kagome smiled and bent down. She placed her hand over Kouga's left leg, reached in, and extracted the shard. She then repeated the process with his right leg and added the shards to the nearly complete jewel. Kagome sighed, “Only one shard left now. How do your legs feel, Kouga?” Kouga shook both legs and said, “Feel just fine, Kagome. Of course, perhaps, if you rubbed them a bit…” Kagome sighed once more. “See ya later, Kouga. Thanks for the shards.” With that, she hopped onto Inuyasha's back as she and the others went on to find Kohaku.
