Chapter 5

 

Although he would never admit it, Inuyasha was worried. His niece had been taken and if he knew Sesshomaru it was dangerous for him to be around anyone.

 

He wished that Kagome would have just gone home so he would at least have the piece of mind that she and Shippo were out of the fire zone, but alas she was being stubborn and he didn't had the patience or energy to fight with her.

 

It was going to take everything he had to calm Sesshomaru down.

As he pulled into the hospital parking lot Inuyasha was pleasantly surprised that the building was still standing.

 

He drove up to the emergency entrance, slowed to a stop and put the car in park. He looked over to Kagome and said, “go park the car I'm gonna go on in, try to stay put of trouble.”

 

Kagome just looked at him, although she wanted to fight back she could tell that now wasn't the time, he had practically ripped the steering wheel off earlier and had had a troubled expression on his face the whole drive over. Besides, his brother needed him and she could only imagine what he was going through.

 

By the time she started to reply, Inuyasha was already gone. Sighing she climbed over to the drivers side and moved the car into drive.

Inuyasha rushed into the building, and up the stairs, not bothering with the elevator, it would take too long. When he got to Sesshomaru's office he was met by a very angry Youkai and an annoying toad who simply fell to his feet saying, “thank you for coming, I am fearful for my life.”

 

Inuyasha didn't even look down and simply said, “just wait outside and do not let anyone in this office, do you understand!”

 

The toad jumped up saying, “yes, yes, of course,” and ran from the room.

 

Sesshomaru had not even noticed his brother's presence yet, and that worried Inuyasha, normally his brother knew within seconds if he was within a block of his office, by scent alone. Now, he was standing beside him and he didn't even notice?

 

Inuyasha watched his brother closely, waiting for any sudden movement. Sesshomaru had simply been staring at a chair by the wall, which is where Inuyasha guessed Rin had been the last time Sesshomaru saw her.

 

He barely had time to brace himself before Sesshomaru attacked, his eyes blood red and poison dripping from his claws. He had little recognition is his eyes. It was obvious he was fighting to keep his sanity. Inuyasha moved aside as his brother jumped toward him.

 

Sesshomaru turned back and stared Inuyasha in the eyes and said, “where is she, what has he done with her?”

 

“I don't know but we need you in a rational head before go find her.”

 

“Where is he, I want his head! He'll die for this.”

 

“You better believe he is, but need to find him first.”

 

Sesshomaru jumped and pinned Inuyasha, slamming him into the wall. Before Inuyasha could move, his brother's hand was around Inuyasha's throat, his breathing even and calm as he looked into his younger brother's eyes.

 

Inuyasha was having a hard time breathing as he stared into his older brother's eyes, but he was determined not to show any weakness, as Sesshomaru's eyes were flashing and he was not sure if he recognized him or not.

 

Finally, after a few long seconds Sesshomaru said, “you will help me track them down, but you will allow me to do the fighting.”

 

Inuyasha was outraged, “I don't that's fair, I help with the work and don't get to have any of the fun!”

 

Sesshomaru tightened his grip on Inuyasha's neck and said, “no you don't.” To emphasize his point, Sesshomaru brought his knee up and kicked Inuyasha in the stomach.

 

“Alright, I get the point already.” With that Sesshomaru dropped Inuyasha onto the ground.

 

“Now, may I suggest going outside and taking your woman home, I fear for Jaken's life. Then I want you to go to my house and check for any clue as to whether or not he's been there, call me if you find anything.”

 

Inuyasha nodded and walked out the door. The scene in front of him would have had him on the floor in a laughing fit if it had not been for the situation at hand.

 

Kagome had Jaken in much the same position that he himself had been in only moments before, her hand around his throat, looking deep into his eyes. Shippo was standing only feet away watching in fascination as his mother threatened the youkai.

 

Kagome tightened her grip as she said, “I'm going in there whether you like it or not.” She dropped him to the ground and turned to open the door when she saw him standing there staring at her. She ran up to him and hugged him with all her might.

 

“Oh man, are you okay? I heard something slam into the wall really hard and I was afraid you were hurt.”

 

He just looked down at her, “I'm fine, as if he could hurt me.”

 

Kagome simply hugged him tighter.

 

Inuyasha moved away, taking her hand and walked over to Shippo. He let go of Kagome's hand and picked Shippo up gently before reaching over and reclaiming her hand.

 

“We need to get going it's going to be a long night and I need to get you two somewhere safe.”

 

“What do you mean `get us somewhere safe' I'm coming with you.”

 

“No you aren't Kagome, you and Shippo are going to your apartment and I;m going to Sesshomaru's to look for clues as to what Naraku has planned. I'll call you when I know something.”

 

“Oh, I don't think so, I'm not going to let you go off in to a potentially dangerous situation without any help, I'm coming with you.”

 

“Kagome, what are you gonna do if there's danger?”

 

“What do you mean?”

 

“I mean, if there is danger I can handle it, but if you're there I won't be able to give it my full attention because I'll be too worried about keeping you safe.”

 

“So, you think I'm a useless burden?”

 

“That's not what..”

 

Kagome cut him off, “yes it is.”

 

“No it isn't.” Inuyasha stopped and looked down into Kagome's eyes and said, “I meant that it's really important to me that you and Shippo are safe, and I will not take you into a dangerous situation. I'm not taking any chances when it comes to your safety.”

 

“Well alright, but only if you promise me you'll call me when you get there and when you leave and that you'll call for help if you need it.”

 

“Okay, I promise.”

 

“Good, then I guess I'll let you go.”

 

“Well thank you.” He replied sarcastically.

 

“Your welcome.”

Kagome sighed as she looked around he home. She was worried sick, Inuyasha had get dropped her off nearly an hour ago and called 20 minutes later to say he was there. But, she hadn't heard from him since and it was nerve racking. How long does it take to search a house anyways?

 

She desperately wanted to call him, but he had made her promise not to, as he couldn't afford any distractions.

 

Shippo had gone to his room almost as soon as they got home, not fully understanding the situation, but knowing that his mother would be worried sick until Inuyasha walked through the door. He also knew that there was nothing that he could do to calm her down in the slightest.

Inuyasha pulled up and parked on the curb in front of a house about three blocks away from Sesshomaru's house, not wanting to bring any unnecessary attention to himself. He had already called Kagome to let her know he was there.

 

He approached the house from the back and kept his eyes open for any signs of movement. He noted that all the lights were off and that weren't any unusual scents.

 

He slowly made his way into the house, using the key that he had had for years, although it had never before been used. He slowly closed the door and took in his surrounding, nothing seemed out of place.

 

He walked the house carefully, keeping alert for any signs of danger. He paid especially close attention to Rin's room. Although he had never before been in her room, as he had only been to the house a handful of times, it was what he expected it to be. The walls were pink, and it was filled with stuffed animals.

 

Inuyasha may his way to Sesshomaru's bedroom, it was the last room in the house he needed to check. He slowly opened the door and sniffed, finding no scents other than his brother's he opened the door completely and looked around. The walls were plain white, and in the center of the room, directly below a large window was cherry bed with a rich gold comforter on top of it. After coming to the conclusion that there was nothing to be found here, he turned to leave when something caught his eye. Looking out the window he was shocked to see that there was someone watching him. They were around the street, three houses down. There was a man just sitting and watching from his own window.

 

Picking up his phone he quickly called Sesshomaru, although this man wasn't Naraku, maybe he had seen something that could be of use?

 

A/N: Hey guys, its been a while hasn't it? I don't know what got into me, but I just sat down and started writing. I hope you all enjoy it. I'm going to try to post at least once a month, but putting myself on a deadline didn't help anything, so I'm not going back there. I want to thank everyone who's still reading this story for doing so, you all are great!
