Chapter 4
Sango woke up slowly, feeling a pressure on her beside. At first she thought it had just been a dream, but then the pressure moved and she knew that it was real. She tried to smack it away, but it just came back. Finally deciding that the only way it was going to stop was to get up she tried to move her blanket. But, the blanket was heavy and moved back into place on its own. Finally, after several long minutes she opened her eyes, wincing at the bright lights. Once her vision had cleared she realized just what position she was in.
“MIROKU YOU BASTARD!!”
Miroku woke up with a start and fell off the couch where he and Sango had slept. While they had fallen asleep sitting up, they had apparently laid down at some point in the night, with Miroku on the outside and Sango spooning his front.
“My dear Sango what did I do this time?”
“Oh don’t use that tone with me, you know exactly what you did, either that or you’re so perverted that you molested me in my sleep.”
Miroku groaned, “you mean I missed our first time? I am truly sorry. Was it at least pleasurable for you? I could never forgive myself if I was selfish when it comes to your needs.”
Sango looked at him with a strange look, the same look one might give someone that just told you that aliens existed and then pulled their face off to prove it. She looked him over cautiously, trying to gauge his seriousness. He looked like he was really upset by the prospect he had just mentioned, like he truly believed that ridiculous scenario. Sango seriously thought about joking with him and telling him that the only time that she had come harder was when she showered with Kagome, but then thought better of her plan; it just might make his head explode.
“Miroku you are such an idiot.”
Miroku looked up at her, “so you mean we didn’t have sex?”
“Do you even realize that your clothes are still on?”
“Oh yea.”
Sango snorted.
“So then what did I do wrong?”
“You groped me in your sleep!”
Miroku laughed as Sango came flying at him, whacking him over the head before pulling herself off the floor and walking to the kitchen to make breakfast. Miroku just laid there, staring at the ceiling with a starry look in his eyes.

Kagome woke up in the hospital and looked over to Shippo. She was working at the restaurant today, but it was her day off from the store. She was glad it had worked out like that; Shippo was going to be able to go home today and this why she got to be with him that night. Plus, she wasn’t sure how Inuyasha would handle letting her go back to the store.
Shippo was still sleeping and she looked up at the clock to see that it was only eight, so she decided to let him sleep. She pulled herself up out of the bed and walked over to the dresser that had a few of her’s and Shippo’s things in it. She had been taking most of their stuff home, especially lately, but it was just easier to keep a few things at the hospital. That way if she forgot something at home it wasn’t a tragedy. Lifting up a plain light blue short shelved shirt and a pair of stonewashed jeans she slipped her flip flops on and walked down the hall to the bathroom.
Just as she was leaving the room she ran into something, or rather someone. Without looking up she knew who it was.
“Oi! Haven’t you learned to watch where you’re goin’?” Inuyasha complained, although his voice was a little softer than normal.
Kagome looked up at him sweetly, “of course I have I just wanted to run into you.”
Inuyasha let out a little chuckle and asked, “you goin’ to get dressed?”
“Yea, I have to be at the restaurant by ten.”
“Yea I know. I figure I’ll be able to release Shippo around four, you’ll be off work by then right?”
“Um, I should be. You know how that restaurant is; I normally get off at the right time.”
“Yea I know but I just wanna make sure. Hey what are you doin’ for dinner tonight?”
“I’m not sure yet, why?” Kagome asked hopefully.
“Well I was thinking that I could take you and Shippo out to eat, you know to celebrate his first non-hospital meal in a month.”
“That sounds great, but you know Shippo is gonna want McDonald’s right?”
Inuyasha let out a little laugh, “yea I kinda figured. But I figure if that’s what he wants, it’s okay.”
Kagome smiled at him, he really was becoming like a father to her son, almost like he had belonged in their family all along. “Well, I’m gonna go get dressed, you gonna give Shippo his last examination?”
“Yea, that’s why I’m here.”
“Aww and I thought you were here to see me!” Kagome protested, but then smiled to let him know she was only joking.
“Go get dressed Kagome, I’ll be finished by the time you get back.”
Kagome pouted, but left the room.

Sesshomaru was seething by the time he made it to the hospital. That bastard had a camera in his daughter’s bedroom! As much as he hated to admit it, his home was no longer safe. What really baffled him was that whoever had put the camera there had left no scent. Even if Naraku had had a bird fly the thing in there, there should have been some kind of scent.
For the first time in his life, he didn’t no what to do. On the one hand, he still had feelings for Naraku, on the other hand; he had to protect his daughter. He didn’t like bringing her to the hospital, especially since he knew that Naraku was on call today, but the only person other than himself that he trusted in the slightest to protect Rin was Inuyasha. The hanyou may not be the brightest in the world, but when it came to Rin there was little doubt in Sesshomaru’s mind that the hanyou would die before anyone laid a hand on her.
Carrying Rin to the kit’s room he made the decision to tell Inuyasha exactly what happened. He doubted that Naraku would do anything while at the hospital, but knowing him, anything was possible, and Inuyasha needed to be aware of what had happened to protect Rin.
Walking into the room, he went over to the other bed and deposited his young sleeping daughter, tucking her in. He looked over to Inuyasha, who was just finishing an examination of the kitsune.
Inuyasha wrote down a few things and then set Shippo’s chart down on the end of his bed. He looked up to his older brother expectantly. Sesshomaru simply walked out of the room. Inuyasha followed him, knowing that his brother wouldn’t have waited for his attention if he didn’t have something to say. The thought crossed his mind to stay put in the room and make his brother actually say that he wanted to talk to him, but then thought better of it. The almighty Sesshomaru was upset about something, and provoking him, while providing a great deal of entertainment, would only make things worse.
Sesshomaru waited a few moments before Inuyasha appeared. He was waiting right outside of the room, not wanting to leave Rin unprotected for long.
Inuyasha stood in front of him, although he didn’t say anything.
“Naraku broke into my house and placed a camera in her room.” The inu-youkai watched his brother’s expression carefully, as it moved from angry to confused and back to angry.
Whatever Inuyasha was expecting, that wasn’t it. If Sesshomaru was this upset, then what exactly was he thinking? Suddenly a thought struck him. “You think he’s gonna try and take her.”
Sesshomaru looked rather uncomfortable. “Yes,” he said simply.
Inuyasha nodded and turned to walk back into the room. Sesshomaru’s hand stopped him. Inuyasha turned and made eye contact. The youkai didn’t say anything, but the pain in his eyes was obvious. Inuyasha nodded again and walked back into the room with the children.
Sesshomaru was relieved that he hadn’t asked more questions. He wasn’t sure that he could have handled telling the hanyou that he didn’t know how the break in happened. He glanced back into the room once more and then walked to his office.
Inuyasha wasn’t sure exactly what was going on, except that Rin was in trouble. He decided that he would get some work done while the children slept, only to realize that all of his paperwork for the clinic was in his office. Deciding to go get it, he glanced over at Shippo and then picked Rin up and took her with him. There was no need to take Shippo since Rin was the one Naraku was after and he’d only be gone for a few minutes.
He wasn’t half way out of the room before he noticed a familiar scent; Kagome was coming back to the room. He thought about waiting for her to get back, but then realized that it would just take longer, so he went ahead down the hall to the elevator.

Kagura groaned as she looked at her cell phone’s caller ID. It was only nine and she had worked at the store until four in the morning. She reached over and turned the light on before flipping the phone open.
“Yea,” she answered angrily.
“Kagura how did it go last night?”
“She ended up putting in her notice.”
“What?”
“She told the manager that she has another job starting next week.”
“Damn we need her to stay there another week.”
Kagura waited to speak, knowing that Naraku had something else to say.
“Tonight I want you to talk to her, try to convince her to stay the extra week.”
“She doesn’t work tonight.” Kagura smiled as she listened to the sting of curses that followed.
“Then, I guess we’ll just have to move the plan up a week.” Kagura groaned. That meant more work for her, to get everything ready earlier.

Kagome was excited when she got off work. For the first time in a while, things were going well. Shippo was getting to come home today, she had an amazing boyfriend who had just gotten a new job, and she had a new job that would require fewer hours and pay more. Plus when she put in her notice at the restaurant the owner was a lot nicer than the manager at the store.
She walked outside and looked to the parking spot that Inuyasha normally used and walked over to his car. Smiling widely she climbed in the car and gave him a big kiss. After a few long moments she heard an, “ewww” coming from the back seat. Slowly breaking the kiss she looked in the back seat to see Rin. She blushed.
“Well hello Rin, I didn’t know you were coming to meet me today.”
Rin smiled, “I didn’t either, but Uncle Inu said you’d like it.”
“Well, of course I like it, the more people that meet me when I get off work, the more I know I’m missed.” Kagome flashed Inuyasha a look and he whispered, “I’ll explain later.” Kagome nodded and went back to talking to Rin.

Shippo was excited; he got to go home today. It had been so long since he left the hospital. He had wanted to go with Inuyasha and Rin to pick his mom up from work, but Inuyasha had told him that he couldn’t leave until his mom had signed the papers and promised that if he was good, they would go to McDonald’s later. He hoped that it would be just him, Inuyasha, and his mom. He also hoped that he could talk Inuyasha into staying with them tonight. He had gotten used to staying up with Inuyasha and playing PSP or board games.
He looked at the clock again, excited and nervous. He groaned when he realized that it was only four, it would be at least another ten minutes before they got back. Looking around and seeing that all of his stuff was packed he picked his PSP up and decided to play for a while.
Soon enough the door opened and Shippo looked up. He sat the PSP down and ran to his mother. Kagome picked him with ease, having done it many times before.
“Did you pack everything?”
“Yup, I even got all that stuff from the drawers.”
“Well okay then just let me double check and Inuyasha will be in here in a minute so I can sign he papers and then we’ll go to McDonald’s.”
“Yay!” Shippo yelled. Kagome just smiled and shook her head at his antics. She carried Shippo over and double checked everything to make sure that Shippo hadn’t missed anything from their month long visit.
Inuyasha came in a few moments later, after picking up the papers from the nurse’s station and dropping Rin off with Sesshomaru. “Here, go ahead and sign these.”
Kagome took the papers and handed Shippo to Inuyasha. The hanyou took him and went back over to the bed and sat down. Kagome sat down in the chair next to the bed and scanned the papers. After a quick read through she signed them and handed them to Inuyasha.
Inuyasha had been playing with Shippo, who had left his PSP turned on. He took the papers and sat Shippo down on the bed. “I’ll be right back, go ahead and get all of your stuff and I’ll help you carry it.” Kagome nodded.
It didn’t take long before Inuyasha was back and they were carrying everything out to the car. Inuyasha had two duffle bags, each the size of Shippo, and Kagome was carrying Shippo and a small suitcase.
They reached the car without incident and Inuyasha put everything in the trunk while Kagome buckled Shippo in. After taking a few moments to buckle herself in, and to wait for Inuyasha to do the same, Kagome asked, “so where are we going for dinner?”
“McDonalds!” Shippo yelled as loud as he could. Both Kagome and Inuyasha laughed.
It didn’t take long to get to the nearest McDonald’s, although Shippo had been very busy for the short amount of time, asking questions and talking excitedly about how much he had missed ‘real’ food.
Inuyasha and Kagome took their time getting out of the car, only to find that Shippo was standing next to it waiting for them. They smiled at one another before Kagome walked up to him and grabbed his hand. She would have picked him up, but he was so full of energy that he would probably just fought to be sat back down anyway.
Inuyasha walked beside Kagome as she was being pulled into the restaurant. He couldn’t help the smile that adorned his face. It was nice to be with Kagome and Shippo like this. He was kind of in a daze by the time they made it into the restaurant, and he smiled when he realized that Kagome was telling Shippo to ‘use his indoor voice.’
“Mommy can I get a Big Mac and a Chicken Nugget meal?”
“Oh I don’t know Shippo, do you think you can eat that much?”
“Uh huh.” Shippo said, nodding vigorously.
Kagome sent Inuyasha a glance before leaning down until she was eye level with her son and said, “but Shippo remember the last time you wanted both? You only ate five of the nuggets and half of the Big Mac.”
“But Mommy I wasn’t as hungry then as I am now. Please can I get both?” Shippo begged, using his puppy eyes.
Kagome looked up to Inuyasha, who snorted and said, “just go ahead and get him both.”
Shippo ran over to him and hugged his leg, “thank you!”
Kagome just looked over to him and smiled, mouthing the same words. Inuyasha blushed at the attention and shrugged.

Sesshomaru was getting annoyed, and rather angry. Inuyasha had dropped Rin off a little more than a half hour before and he knew that the hanyou and his girlfriend would be out celebrating the kitsune’s recovery, and more and likely wouldn‘t be answering the phone. He also had an emergency on his hands.
Apparently a bus had crashed into a building and caused twenty people to be injured. None of the injures looked to be life threatening but his hospital was getting the few youkai patients that had been hurt. He needed all the doctors he could get, including himself. He would just have to leave Rin with Jaken. Hopefully the imp could protect the girl. Besides he knew what would happen to him if he didn’t…
Shaking his head free of the thoughts about his daughter’s safety he called Jaken into his office.
“Yes master?”
“Jaken I’m leaving Rin in your care, you are to protect her.”
“But master I know nothing about caring for a human girl.”
“Jaken you will do it.”
“Yes, yes master. Of course.”
Sesshomaru then turned to Rin and looked down at her, sitting at his desk playing a game. “Rin you are to behave for Jaken.”
“Yes Daddy.” With that Sesshomaru turned and left the room.

Inuyasha was in the middle of eating his dinner, when he looked over to Kagome. She was watching Shippo with a mix of disgust and amazement on her face. He turned to Shippo, to see the kitsune with ketchup smeared all over his face, the special sauce from the Big Mac running down his shirt and honey all over his hands. Inuyasha nearly coughed up his own food just looking at it.
“Mommy is Inuyasha gonna stay the night with us at home?” Shippo asked between bites.
Inuyasha blushed and looked over to Kagome, who answered, “well I don’t think so. I thought that you would want some time just for the two of us since we haven’t had any in a while.”
“Well yeah, but I like Inuyasha being there when I go to sleep.”
“Well maybe he’ll stay until after you go to bed.”
“Really?”
“I don’t know, maybe.”
Shippo looked over to Inuyasha pleadingly. The hanyou snorted in response. “Of course I’ll stay until you go to sleep, runt.”
“Yay!” Shippo yelled happily, which prompted Kagome to remind him once again to use his indoor voice.
Inuyasha got annoyed when he heard his cell phone ringing, but pulled it out of his pocket and checked the caller ID, it was Sesshomaru. He sighed before flipping the phone open. “Yeah,” he tuned out Shippo and Kagome’s small talk to hear his brother’s angry voice and smashing items in the background. A small voice came over the phone, “you must come quickly, master Sesshomaru has gone crazy.”
“What do you mean he’s going crazy?” Inuyasha angrily yelled into the phone. Kagome and Shippo both quieted down and looked over to him.
“Young Rin was taken, and he’s lost it.”
“What do you mean Rin was taken?”
“It was Naraku.”
“Listen to me Jaken, get everyone away from Sesshomaru. I‘ll be there as soon as I can.” Inuyasha flipped his phone closed and looked over to Kagome.
“I’m gonna drop you off at your apartment and I’ll be over later to tell you what’s going on.”
“No I wanna come with you.”
“Look you need to take care of Shippo right now and I need to get down there.”
“And I’m coming with you.”
“But what about Shippo?”
Kagome could sense him giving in and said, “we’ll take him with us.”
Inuyasha groaned and then said, “fine, just hurry up.”

“Well hello Rin, I didn’t know you were coming to meet me today.”
Rin smiled, “I didn’t either, but Uncle Inu said you’d like it.”
“Well, of course I like it, the more people that meet me when I get off work, the more I know I’m missed.” Kagome flashed Inuyasha a look and he whispered, “I’ll explain later.” Kagome nodded and went back to talking to Rin.

Shippo was excited; he got to go home today. It had been so long since he left the hospital. He had wanted to go with Inuyasha and Rin to pick his mom up from work, but Inuyasha had told him that he couldn’t leave until his mom had signed the papers and promised that if he was good, they would go to McDonald’s later. He hoped that it would be just him, Inuyasha, and his mom. He also hoped that he could talk Inuyasha into staying with them tonight. He had gotten used to staying up with Inuyasha and playing PSP or board games.
He looked at the clock again, excited and nervous. He groaned when he realized that it was only four, it would be at least another ten minutes before they got back. Looking around and seeing that all of his stuff was packed he picked his PSP up and decided to play for a while.
Soon enough the door opened and Shippo looked up. He sat the PSP down and ran to his mother. Kagome picked him with ease, having done it many times before.
“Did you pack everything?”
“Yup, I even got all that stuff from the drawers.”
“Well okay then just let me double check and Inuyasha will be in here in a minute so I can sign he papers and then we’ll go to McDonald’s.”
“Yay!” Shippo yelled. Kagome just smiled and shook her head at his antics. She carried Shippo over and double checked everything to make sure that Shippo hadn’t missed anything from their month long visit.
Inuyasha came in a few moments later, after picking up the papers from the nurse’s station and dropping Rin off with Sesshomaru. “Here, go ahead and sign these.”
Kagome took the papers and handed Shippo to Inuyasha. The hanyou took him and went back over to the bed and sat down. Kagome sat down in the chair next to the bed and scanned the papers. After a quick read through she signed them and handed them to Inuyasha.
Inuyasha had been playing with Shippo, who had left his PSP turned on. He took the papers and sat Shippo down on the bed. “I’ll be right back, go ahead and get all of your stuff and I’ll help you carry it.” Kagome nodded.
It didn’t take long before Inuyasha was back and they were carrying everything out to the car. Inuyasha had two duffle bags, each the size of Shippo, and Kagome was carrying Shippo and a small suitcase.
They reached the car without incident and Inuyasha put everything in the trunk while Kagome buckled Shippo in. After taking a few moments to buckle herself in, and to wait for Inuyasha to do the same, Kagome asked, “so where are we going for dinner?”
“McDonalds!” Shippo yelled as loud as he could. Both Kagome and Inuyasha laughed.
It didn’t take long to get to the nearest McDonald’s, although Shippo had been very busy for the short amount of time, asking questions and talking excitedly about how much he had missed ‘real’ food.
Inuyasha and Kagome took their time getting out of the car, only to find that Shippo was standing next to it waiting for them. They smiled at one another before Kagome walked up to him and grabbed his hand. She would have picked him up, but he was so full of energy that he would probably just fought to be sat back down anyway.
Inuyasha walked beside Kagome as she was being pulled into the restaurant. He couldn’t help the smile that adorned his face. It was nice to be with Kagome and Shippo like this. He was kind of in a daze by the time they made it into the restaurant, and he smiled when he realized that Kagome was telling Shippo to ‘use his indoor voice.’
“Mommy can I get a Big Mac and a Chicken Nugget meal?”
“Oh I don’t know Shippo, do you think you can eat that much?”
“Uh huh.” Shippo said, nodding vigorously.
Kagome sent Inuyasha a glance before leaning down until she was eye level with her son and said, “but Shippo remember the last time you wanted both? You only ate five of the nuggets and half of the Big Mac.”
“But Mommy I wasn’t as hungry then as I am now. Please can I get both?” Shippo begged, using his puppy eyes.
Kagome looked up to Inuyasha, who snorted and said, “just go ahead and get him both.”
Shippo ran over to him and hugged his leg, “thank you!”
Kagome just looked over to him and smiled, mouthing the same words. Inuyasha blushed at the attention and shrugged.

Sesshomaru was getting annoyed, and rather angry. Inuyasha had dropped Rin off a little more than a half hour before and he knew that the hanyou and his girlfriend would be out celebrating the kitsune’s recovery, and more and likely wouldn‘t be answering the phone. He also had an emergency on his hands.
Apparently a bus had crashed into a building and caused twenty people to be injured. None of the injures looked to be life threatening but his hospital was getting the few youkai patients that had been hurt. He needed all the doctors he could get, including himself. He would just have to leave Rin with Jaken. Hopefully the imp could protect the girl. Besides he knew what would happen to him if he didn’t…
Shaking his head free of the thoughts about his daughter’s safety he called Jaken into his office.
“Yes master?”
“Jaken I’m leaving Rin in your care, you are to protect her.”
“But master I know nothing about caring for a human girl.”
“Jaken you will do it.”
“Yes, yes master. Of course.”
Sesshomaru then turned to Rin and looked down at her, sitting at his desk playing a game. “Rin you are to behave for Jaken.”
“Yes Daddy.” With that Sesshomaru turned and left the room.

Inuyasha was in the middle of eating his dinner, when he looked over to Kagome. She was watching Shippo with a mix of disgust and amazement on her face. He turned to Shippo, to see the kitsune with ketchup smeared all over his face, the special sauce from the Big Mac running down his shirt and honey all over his hands. Inuyasha nearly coughed up his own food just looking at it.
“Mommy is Inuyasha gonna stay the night with us at home?” Shippo asked between bites.
Inuyasha blushed and looked over to Kagome, who answered, “well I don’t think so. I thought that you would want some time just for the two of us since we haven’t had any in a while.”
“Well yeah, but I like Inuyasha being there when I go to sleep.”
“Well maybe he’ll stay until after you go to bed.”
“Really?”
“I don’t know, maybe.”
Shippo looked over to Inuyasha pleadingly. The hanyou snorted in response. “Of course I’ll stay until you go to sleep, runt.”
“Yay!” Shippo yelled happily, which prompted Kagome to remind him once again to use his indoor voice.
Inuyasha got annoyed when he heard his cell phone ringing, but pulled it out of his pocket and checked the caller ID, it was Sesshomaru. He sighed before flipping the phone open. “Yeah,” he tuned out Shippo and Kagome’s small talk to hear his brother’s angry voice and smashing items in the background. A small voice came over the phone, “you must come quickly, master Sesshomaru has gone crazy.”
“What do you mean he’s going crazy?” Inuyasha angrily yelled into the phone. Kagome and Shippo both quieted down and looked over to him.
“Young Rin was taken, and he’s lost it.”
“What do you mean Rin was taken?”
“It was Naraku.”
“Listen to me Jaken, get everyone away from Sesshomaru. I‘ll be there as soon as I can.” Inuyasha flipped his phone closed and looked over to Kagome.
“I’m gonna drop you off at your apartment and I’ll be over later to tell you what’s going on.”
“No I wanna come with you.”
“Look you need to take care of Shippo right now and I need to get down there.”
“And I’m coming with you.”
“But what about Shippo?”
Kagome could sense him giving in and said, “we’ll take him with us.”
Inuyasha groaned and then said, “fine, just hurry up.”
