The new one is going to be Inu/Kag and cannon universe. But, here goes the next chapter of this one.

RECAP:

“Where did you think you were going Mayuko?” His voice rang throughout the area. She screamed when tentacles flew at her from every direction, above her and to every side she could possibly escape from. A blue light formed around her and upon contact, the tentacles disappeared. “You bitch!” She heard Naraku yell before a scream was ripped from Kagome’s throat.

Chapter 8- Deception is The Key

Mayuko’s head whipped in Kagome’s direction to see her on the ground with a barrier around herself. Naraku’s attention was fully on Kagome and this was her perfect chance to escape. But after Kagome risked so much for her, she couldn’t just leave her there, but she needed to get away before Naraku had a chance to turn his attention back to her. She looked back at Kagome and saw her close her eyes, then a blue light appeared around Naraku and her eyes snapped open.

“GO!” She yelled and Mayuko took a step back. “I can’t hold him forever!” And with that, the young demoness was gone. “Thank you, Kagome-chan.” It was a whisper she’d left in the wind, but Kagome heard it, and smiled, watching Mayuko disappear from site before turning back to the matter at hand. Naraku’s eyes bled darker then she had ever seen before, and if looks could kill, Kagome would surely be dead.

She gulped, letting the barrier holding Naraku down, placing one around herself instead. “Hold no doubts priestess, you WILL be punished.” And with that, he turned to the entrance and went inside, leaving Kagome to shudder at the possible pain he could inflict upon her.

Mayuko ran through the forest, heading towards the village Kagome had told her about. They would most likely be heading towards the fortress from that direction. She thought back to the things Kagome had given her. ‘Chocolate and a trial sized perfume for Sango and Shippo.’ How would they let her rejoin simply by giving them these items? ‘Either way, I know I can trust Kagome’s words.’

An hour later she picked up on Miroku’s scent. Her heart rate increased and she wondered how she could face him after what she had done to him, but at the moment, she needed to put her emotions in the back of her mind to be dealt with later and for now, she needed to focus on finding them. They weren’t very far off, two maybe three miles at the most. She would stop, mask her scent, and wait for them to approach her. And while she did this, she could deal with her emotions.

Jumping up into one of the trees, she laid back against the trunk and closed her eyes, both scared and anxious to see Miroku again. As for Sango and Inuyasha, damn. Maybe she could find Miroku when he was alone….No, that would be dumb she was strong, she could face the others no mater what.

But what if Miroku didn’t like her anymore? Would he reject her and give her the third degree? Or would he tell her to leave and never return? The risk of heartbreak was great, but it was a risk she would half to take, for Kagome’s sake if nothing else.

Miroku and Sango had finally convinced Inuyasha to take a break and they sat down on a patch of grass off to the side of the path they were taking. Sango walked off, heading towards a stream they had passed on the way. Inuyasha left to gather fire wood to use for cooking, and Miroku sat cross legged on the ground, meditating with Shippo and Kirara sleeping soundly beside him.

Inuyasha returned first, throwing the wood down and starting the fire, which awoke the two slumbering youkai who’s stomachs immediately growled. Shippo and Kirara started a game of tag, waiting patiently for Sango to return with whatever food she had collocted.

“I got some fish guys!” She yelled when she returned, carrying five fish, each on its own stick. Inuyasha and Shippo raced to her, taking one for themselves and running back over to the fire, where Miroku and Kirara waited patiently for their own meal. “Here ya go you two.” She said, giving them each their fish before sitting down to cook her own.

“So, how far do you think we are from Naraku’s castle?” Sango asked, hoping that someone would have at least a small bit of an idea as to how much further they’d need to go before they finally found Kagome.

Miroku didn’t answer, not too fond about the idea of fighting Mayuko, and knowing Naraku, he’s be the one set to do just that. He finally understood how Sango felt when anticipating a battle with Naraku. She knew she’d have to face Kohaku, and probably felt just as he did, if not worse, but she’d never given up and that’s why he respected her so much.

“I don’t know, probably soon though” Inuyasha said, “I hope so at least. He could be doing anything to Kagome right now, and I hate knowing that and not being able to do anything to stop it.” He stood up and bowed his head. “I failed her.” And he walked to sit under a nearby tree.

“Inuyasha!” Sango got up to follow him, sitting next to him and lifting his chin to meet her eyes. He averted his gaze, but she wouldn’t have it. “Look at me.” She demanded, and hesitantly, he did so. “This isn’t your fault, Inuyasha. And I’m sure that Kagome doesn’t blame you for getting taken by Naraku. If you remember correctly, she sat you so there was no way you could help even if you tried.”

This seemed to calm him a little, but he looked away. Sango huffed and leaned back against the tree, both of them waiting for the others to finish eating so they could be on their way again.

She made it to the training room, still there was no sign of Naraku and still she was left anticipating the cruel punishment she would be on the receiving end of. She shuddered, but the thoughts in the back of her mind for later. Right now, she needed to be thinking of how to defeat Naraku, not what would happen the next time she saw him.

Walking to the weapon’s shelf, she pulled out the sword from earlier and walked back to the center of the room. She focused her energy into the sword, purifying it and making it glow a soft deep blue before deciding that she needed to test its power. But how could she do that? She had nothing to practice on.

‘If you wish for a sparing partner, you may choose anyone here.’

Naraku’s words rang through her head and she released the energy in her sword and walked out of the room. The first person she came across was one of the guards dressed in black armor and carrying a large scythe. He looked, tough, and even fearsome, but she knew what she had to do in order to become better. She needed to defeat those above her to ascend in level. And that she would do.

“Will you spar with me?” Kagome asked meekly, feeling dumb when all the guard did was raise an eyebrow. He looked her up and down before his eyes widened with realization of who she was. Then, he bowed and nodded, following her back to the training room.

It was odd, but Naraku had heightened her rank among the castle to, well, pretty much right after him. He told her it was so that he wouldn’t have more problems to take care of when his guards came across a defiant human that doesn’t follow directions. And she figured it was a good point, so less people would try to kill her for not following their demands or taking her for a servant. That would severely piss her off and she did not feel like purifying anyone here just because they made her mad.

Walking into the training room, she grabbed the katana and took her stance in front of the guard, who took his as well, poising himself for attack. He smirked and charged at her, claws extended and ready to rip apart her flesh if she made even the slightest mistake. Naraku had told them all that she was above them, but made it specifically clear NOT to go easy on her in training sessions.

Kagome’s hand shot forward, her barrier appearing and shielding her from his claws. She re-gripped the sword with both hands, and focused her powers into it until it was once again, glowing. She barely missed his scythe coming at her, raising her sword against it. She pushed it away by releasing a larger amount of energy through the sword. She removed one hand from the handle and formed a ball of light, hurling it at the youkai that barely got out of the way.

He growled, not liking the way things were going. He would never allow himself to be bested by a human wench such as herself, and she would learn that. Charging at her with his claws, he slashed rapidly and repeatedly at her, only to come in contact with her barrier. He growled out in frustration and pulled a small dagger from his left boot. Feigning a hit to her right, her thrust the dagger into her left side, smirking in triumph when her eyes widened in pain and disbelief. But then….She smiled.

The dagger burned blue before being forced from her body. He watched in morbid fascination as her wound instantly closed, her flesh flashing blue without a drop of blood being spilt. Then, with his attention transfixed on her side where no scar was left marring her skin, he’d forgot to pay attention to her hands. She’d stayed perfectly still, not moving her lower body, but forming an energy sphere in her hands and slamming it into his back.

“You shouldn’t underestimate me, I learn a new trick every day.” She spat, and walked out of the room, bringing the sword with her. “Next time, I won’t just leave you lying stunned on the ground, but in a bloody heap of limbs if you choose to disrespect me.” And with that she left.

‘Where did all that come from?’ She wondered, ‘Bloody limbs? Something’s gotta be wrong with me.’ She walked towards her room, still having a hard time, but managing to find it without anything going wrong. “Finally, I get to go to bed!” And with a yawn, she shut the door and ran to the tatami, anticipating a good night’s sleep.

They’d left only ten minutes ago, and already Inuyasha said to have “Picked up on a familiar, unwanted scent.” He wouldn’t tell them who, and they were beginning to wonder if he knew himself, or if he just recognized the scent from somewhere else and deemed it unwanted. But the next words he spoke crashed that theory all together.

“I know you’re there! Show yourself, Mayuko!” Miroku stopped dead in his tracks. He didn’t, no he couldn’t have just said Mayuko, could he? And then, the demoness herself jumped from her perch, and not just in front of everyone, no. She had to do it directly in front of him. Miroku sighed as he stared into her eyes, sensed the dramatic changes in her aura, she knew something was wrong, but his gut told him that she wouldn’t hurt them. And he always went with his gut feeling.

“Mayuko,” he whispered, as if once again testing her name on his lips. She ran to him, catching him off guard in a bone crushing hug. The others took attack stance, but Miroku shook his head and continued to hold the girl in his arms even closer. “Why are you here? What happened?” He asked, knowing that what he really wanted to ask was, ‘How can I make things better for you?’

He pushed the urge to comfort her anymore aside for the moment and pulled away from her, raising an eyebrow and motioning for her and the others to sit down. Mayuko sat instantly, as well as himself. Hesitantly, Sango did as well, but Inuyasha didn’t budge. Oh well, he didn’t expect him to anyways.

“I’m so sorry!” Miroku lifted Mayuko’s chin, who’s head was now downcast, and raised her head to meet his eyes. He shook his head when her mouth opened, quieting whatever her next statement was.

“Don’t apologize, Mayuko. Explain. What happened and why are you here with us now?” She nodded and put her hands in her pocket, pulling out a small pouch. Inuyasha growled when the contents of her hand was revealed. Kagome’s chocolate and smelly stuff that always made him sneeze. “You saw Kagome-sama, didn’t you?” Mayuko nodded and set the items down beside her.

“Naraku’s a traitor! He killed my family and everyone I ever had in this world. He was using me, he never really cared about my wishes or my welfare, it was only himself that he worried about and his dumb plans. Kagome saved my life. You see, when found out, I turned against Naraku and he locked me up. Kagome saved me and fought him with all she had in order for me to escape him. She gave me these.” She pointed to the discarded items that Kagome had given her. “She said that they were milk duds and a trial perfume, I think it was, from American Eagle. She said to give them to you guys and tell you that she wishes me to become part of the gang, only, for real this time.”

She looked up, trying each one for something that would decide her fate, but no one besides Miroku showed the smallest ounce of trust in her. Inuyasha growled, not liking anything that was going on one bit.

“And how do we know that you aren’t lying now? You could have stolen those things from Kagome or even killed her!” Mayuko shook her head, remembering the way Kagome fought against Naraku. There was no doubt she could hold her own against herself.

“Well, how would I know what each one of these things were? Even if I tortured the information from her, do you think she’d tell me the truth about them and let me get to her closest friends? I think she’s a lot smarter then that. And anyways, the way Kagome held up against Naraku, I highly doubt I’d be able to kill her without getting myself killed in the process.” Inuyasha sneered, still against the idea.

“Look, none of us, aside from Miroku, find it very easy to trust you at the moment. I’m reluctant, but I believe what you’re saying about Kagome. And if she can trust you, I suppose I can try. Besides, we need all we can against Naraku in the final battle, and who knows, maybe you’ll be the cure for Miroku’s lecherous ways.” How she said that, she did not know, but she had to get it off of her chest before she exploded.

Sure, she used to have feelings for Miroku, but she didn’t let herself notice them until it was too late, he’d already given up on her. Besides, she had no time for relationships at the moment. Not when she had the task of freeing her brother and destroying one of the most powerful youkai heard of on her hands. When it was time for her to fall in love, she would know, but until then, her mind was set on avenging her family and friends, and more importantly, getting her brother back. She would stop at nothing to accomplish these tasks.

“Fine, you can come with us, but just know, that I will be watching you and if I think you are up to anything at all, I will kill you. Do you understand, girl?” Mayuko inwardly winced at the hanyou’s harsh tone, but she didn’t expect any better then that from Inuyasha. Honestly, she was surprised she even got accepted back into their group.

“Well, we need to be off after Kagome now. Where is Naraku’s castle Mayuko?” Miroku asked, praying she would be able to help them find their friend.

Makoto ran through the forest, stopping at nothing to reach Naraku’s castle. Something told her that Mayuko wasn’t there, but she felt like she needed to be there herself, and knew that something bad was happening. No matter how hard she tried to tell herself it was none of her business, the idea of Naraku having some odd plan for destruction didn’t bode too well with her.

He was her creator and she knew how vicious he truly was. There was no doubt in her mind that if his plan went accordingly, nothing would be as it should. Another thing, if he’d let Mayuko be turned against him, enough to hate him, and him not care, how powerful was he now? It had been some time since she’d last witnessed him in battle. He was extraordinary, but even then he was holding back.

Her thoughts switched to Sesshomaru. She vaguely wondered if he was worried, but as soon as they came, the thoughts were erased and placed in the back of her mind for whenever it was she decided to engage in wishful thinking.

Then, she gave thought to Rin. She needed to go find out what was going on, needed to end this whole mess before it gets out of hand so that she could go back to visit Rin, and maybe even spend some extra time with Sesshomaru. It was psychotic, but she wouldn’t give up on him, she’d get him to show some emotion, no matter how hard it is to do.

Naraku sneered at the form of the slumbering miko through Kanna’s mirror. He knew what he needed to do to get her on his side, and he would stop at nothing to accomplish this. But first, he needed to make sure that his plan would work. Glancing to the left, he smirked as a red gem glittered in the moonlight. He was certain of what he needed to do, but he had no idea of how to set her up.

He needed to make her uneasy, unsure of things. It shouldn’t be very hard, but she needed at least a small amount of distrust in her friends for his plans to fall into place, and hopefully, it wouldn’t require much work.

He knew she was honest, as well as loyal to the fault, but how to break her of that? He chuckled, he could easily make her feel deceived, as well as her friends. Deception was not a hard thing to mask. After all, it took Inuyasha fifty years to learn the truth behind his own. It wouldn’t be too much trouble to do it again, although this time, he would have some more fun. And after it was over, all he’d have to do is set her up in a room, broken, and get her to touch the red gem, to hold it to her, and to let it consume her.

Of course it wouldn’t last forever, but it would last long enough for her to get used to working with him, and then, all he needed to do was convince her that it was right and that being his partner was the best decision she would ever make.

‘Partner?’ No, certainly not, but would she agree to being lower then him? He doubted it. But that wasn’t the issue, he needed to feign a deception before Inuyasha and his dumb gang reached his barrier. He could easily move it, move everyone and everything inside it, but he didn’t wish to. Naraku hated change, and he wouldn’t up and leave in fear of Inuyasha and his putrid followers, he would lead them away. And deception is the key to everything that he wanted.
