Chapter 7
Sesshoumaru was running freely through the woods, reaching his castle quickly. He entered it and went directly to the gardens to check on Rin. She saw him the moment he appeared and smiled that gap-toothed way that made him feel so, so complete, and warm. She picked up the flowers she had picked for him and ran to him, squealing his name. She latched onto his leg happily and giggled when he took the flowers and pretended to smell them. He motioned a servant forward and he took the flowers to put them in a vase, where they would go into a room he had designated `The Flower Room'. After the one time he had thrown them away and Rin had cried thinking he didn't like her presents, he had always kept them until they wilted in the room. He only went in there occasionally, to keep Rin happy. Jaken welcomed him home and bowed deeply, wincing when Rin told him that Jaken had bonked her on the head with his staff for being unruly.
"Rin, you must behave for Jaken." He said in a gentle admonishing, yet still emotionless voice. He took his toe and threw Jaken across the garden, where he got up rubbing his head from where he hit it. That was a major hint not to ever touch Rin again. Rin laughed and ran off to chase a pretty monarch butterfly that had come through. That was just as well for Sesshoumaru, he needed some time to think. He walked over to a large oak tree and sat under its welcoming shade, thankful to be out of the sun. He shut his eyes, letting his ears hear anything he needed to. He pressed his back to the tree, feeling the cool bark press into his muscles.
Kagome's blushing face popped into his mind from nowhere and he shuttered, remembering what he had done, how he had lost control. He touched that disgusting, putrid, long-legged, beautiful human. She was a human, a piece of dirt under his feet; he had consorted with a piece of dirt. Over and over he tried to tell himself this, but failed. He knew that Kagome was no piece of dirt, no disgusting human. She was beautiful and strong willed and sweet and she was now his mate, for better or for worse. He had to face that fact now, there was no point in denying. He had marked her, she was his, he could not hurt her, and he had an obligation to protect her. Something within him pulled for him to go find out if she was okay right now, if she was happy and safe. He ignored it as it became more persistent and growled in annoyance when he opened his eyes involuntarily. Already he could start to feel it, the pull to be near her, what she felt and thought. They weren't strong yet, only inklings, but it was there. Though she hadn't marked him, she should be feeling the same way, like she should need to see him.
He got up restlessly and started toward the doorway to get inside. Rin flew past him and ran to the chambers she knew he was going to now. He did the same thing every day when he returned from patrolling. Usually he sat in the garden for a while longer, then went to the library to readjust his border lines and to fine-tune exactly where they were, since it had been so messed up when his father died. The map of that time had been lost when the lands had gone into chaos. Sesshoumaru had smoothed that out after a few fair fights that proved him worthy of his fathers throne. Just recently he had begun to make a new map for later references in between patrols. It was almost done. All that was left was the area he had tried to stay away from until now, the southern border where Inuyasha and his friends had been hunting the Shikon No Tama.
He followed the little hyper girl to the library, entering and seeing her settle down immediately. She quietly pulled out her book and proceeded to try and read it. He had been teaching her slowly, he was surprised at how bright she was. She was reading to herself, sometimes sounding out words with her mouth, trying not to make any noise. He watched her for a moment before pulling out his map and unrolling it, placing weights on the edges to keep it unfurled. He took a quill and an inkbottle and began to readjust some borders and fill a few in. It took little time because he had not done much this night; he had been preoccupied with Kagome. At first he had planned to use her to get the sword from Inuyasha, but her fiery attitude had once again caught him slightly off guard. Then her inventions had captivated him, and he had to know more. Every time he was near her he felt a drive to touch her or smell her. It was overpowering, he cursed himself silently for giving in to it. At first he thought he was delving into a simple pleasure, but soon it was clear that he was not. A feeling of protectiveness had seeped into his bones, making him want to hold her close. He had fought it vigilantly at first, but had slowly given into it. It was stronger than his instinct to kill; it beckoned with a force that made his self-control seem flimsy.
He shook his head, clearing his head and saw that he had done as much as he could to the map for now. He pushed back from the desk and folded the map up neatly, placing it in its spot on a shelf that none were to touch, punishable by pain of death. Rin was the only one who had ever touched it and not died. He had never laid a hand on her, but she knew that time, never would she ever touch it again. Rin knew how easily the demon lord could kill her, but that simple fact was why she trusted him so much. He had never hurt her, not with all his strength, and power. When he was angry, he always used his voice and imposed consequences, but never touched her. He never would, either. If anyone else did, they were just about pronounced dead.
The smell of spring wafted in and the garden outside brought fresh smells. The fruit garden reminded him sharply of Kagome's sweet smell, sweet and yet tangy. That was what she smelled like, was fruits. Most humans smelled like garbage to him, they stank and reeked and burnt his delicate nose. He stood and put the ink and quill away to help Rin read for a while before he put her down to nap for a while. That was the only time he ever rested besides those few minutes in the garden. Somehow he knew he wouldn't be able to keep a single thought out of his mind and instead decided when Rin was done reading to set her down and go out in the hot springs for a while. Maybe that would get her off of his mind… He hoped. He fixed the pronunciation of the word Rin was trying to say and sighed. After his bath he would go and see Kagome and try to explain the situation to her.
. . . . .
Kagome walked down the stairs and immediately knew Inuyasha knew. He refused to look at her and instead stormed outside and toward the well. Miroku was looking questionable at the both of them, trying to figure out what was going on. Kagome ducked her head shamefully, knowing she had made a mistake, and followed after slowly. She lagged behind the hanyou as he entered the well house and took Miroku on his back to pass through. He gave her one quick, angry look before descending into the well; it tore her heart out. He knew, he could smell it, he would never forgive her. His half-brother was his sworn enemy; it was like sleeping with Naraku. The thought of THAT hanyou disgusted her to no end and she shuttered.
She stopped as a sudden thought hit her. What about Kikyou? Was Inuyasha any better than her, did he even have any real right to be mad? At least she wasn't stupid like he was when it came to these things. She knew he was angry and why he was. Not like Inuyasha, who asked her rudely why she was mad when he returned from going to see Kikyou. She shook her head, he had never gone too far, and done the unthinkable. True, Kikyou wanted her dead, but he had never mated with her, only promised to protect her. She had taken it a step farther, one large step. It had been an accident, a lack of control on her part. Or had it? She remembered the tender and soft look in his eyes when he had kissed her before entering her. He had been so careful, and caring; was it just her imagination? Did the great lord of the West care about her? It was absurd, but the very thing they had done was too. She knew now, she did not hate nor fear him. If he was in trouble she would try to help. Should he ever need her she would be there. `But what in the world would the great Lord ever need you for? Your so weak compared to him, he could kill you with one finger!' She mused.
She sighed and felt curious eyes on her, Sango's. She turned to her with a smile and stood at the lip of the well, taking Sango's callused hand in her own. They nodded and jumped together, slipping through the dirt into blackness, the weightless feeling surrounded them. It steadied into gravity and they stumbled onto dirt and bones of the bottom of the well. Kagome looked up to see beautiful blue skies and smiled. It was always so pretty here in the Sengoku Jidai. There was no smog to cover the sun and stars, choking out the plant-life. It was quieter and so peaceful; she loved it here. She also knew how dangerous it could be, Naraku being a major one. She remembered when Sesshoumaru used to be apart of that list, just a few hours ago. She couldn't believe that now she would vehemently defend the Taiyoukai's innocence. He could not hurt her now, she knew that. She wondered where he was, and how he was doing. The sudden urge to see him caught her by surprise and she pondered it. She was supposed to kill him, but that was impossible. He may not be her one and only love, but nonetheless she could not take his life. How would she anyway? Wait until they were making love and stab him? `I don't think so!' She thought and laughed bemusedly. She climbed the ladder after Sango and immediately met angry amber eyes. Pain descended on her heart like a plague and she pleaded with him to forgive her. His eyes softened at her obvious pain in her eyes before he turned away and started into the trees toward Kaede's hut. Kagome finished the climb out of the well and followed lethargically after.
She suddenly stopped dead and clapped a hand over her mouth with a sharp intake of breath. All of them turned around to see what the problem was to see immense worry in her eyes. She had forgotten to take the morning-after pill! Perhaps it wasn't too late.
"Guys, I have to go do something real quick in my time. I'll be right back, promise!" With that she turned and ran back into the direction of the well, hopping into it and falling down. But Inuyasha was too quick for her and was beside her before she had gone through, managing to stop her from disappearing from view. He plucked her out of thin air and deposited her back on the ground.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" He asked her. His eyes blazed at the thought of her leaving. She did a double take and then glared at Inuyasha.
"You really want to know? I'm going to take a medicine that will prevent a baby from growing inside of me! Is that okay with you, so I don't have your brothers child? Are you going to stop me?" She was almost screaming. He winced and shrank back as she yelled, staying still as she brushed the dirt off of herself and stalking to the well. This time he did not stop her as she hopped over the edge of the well to transport her to her own time. His ears were flat, still ringing with her yells. If she had said that before, he wouldn't have tried to stop her. He thought about it hard and realized he didn't have any right to her at all now. She was his brother's, for better or worse. There was nothing he could do but watch as his brother took another from him, proving himself once again better than him. Inuyasha hung his head in defeat that was it, he couldn't reverse it. Either Kagome would have to kill Sesshoumaru; or Sesshoumaru would have to remove his mark from her with a simple spell all Inu-youkai knew. The likeliness of it was pretty low; it was depreciating to a youkai's honor, which was one thing Sesshoumaru had. If he said he was going to do something, he did it. He didn't know how to break a promise; it was a foreign concept to him. Inuyasha turned away from the well and sat cross-legged on the ground to wait for Kagome to return so they could continue looking for jewel shards. He hoped she returned soon.
. . . . .
Sesshoumaru soaked in the water comfortable, only to plagued with thoughts of the girl's naked body next to his. He snarled his annoyance and tried to think of something else. Finally he realized it was going to do no good, so long as she wasn't standing in front of him, he would be thinking of her. He sighed and slipped farther under the water, growing comfortable in the hot liquid, letting his body relax. What exactly would he tell her? She wasn't going to come with him willingly unless he made it plain to her that he held strong feelings for her. Even if he could do that, she probably did not feel the same way about him. The mark would make her subject to his whims, but he couldn't control her feelings and desires. Though she certainly seemed to desire him enough. Blood pooled his loins at the thought of her hot, tight body, joyously welcoming his. He growled and slipped out of the water, drying and preparing to go and see the girl. He hesitated and realized she may not be in his time yet; she may still be in her time. He quickly dismantled his mental barriers and searched for her, finding her quickly with his mark. She had just entered his time, he sighed with relief. But then she turned around and headed back for the well, something important on her mind. He felt her stop momentarily and guessed the hanyou had stopped her. He felt her energy rise a few notches as anger filled her, then she was gone from him as she went to a place he couldn't without her; the future. He sighed and finished dressing, heading to his chambers to do a little work he needed to do before waking Rin. That meant he'd have to take her with him. Who knows, she might even be able to help him. He decided to leave Jaken there to watch over the castle and make sure everything was ready when she came. There would have to be a special dinner to honor her company, and the place would have to look especially clean. He was having some dresses made up for now, she would receive them whether she wanted them or not. He sighed, he hated formalities in this, it was supposed to be between two people, but that's' not what tradition turned it into. He left the hot springs to find out how everything was coming along; including the surprise he had in store for her when he went to see her.
. . . . .
Kagome breathed with relief when she read the directions, she wasn't too late, whew. She took the indicated amount and swallowed it with a little water. She smiled, remembering how her brother and mother could not swallow pills at all. Kagome had never had any trouble; she could down many at once. She blushed at a memory.
"A… AH… AHTCHOO!" She sneezed loudly and sniffed to try and clear her nose. The nurse lifted a brow and gave her a handful of pills to take. Two were for her cold, and two were for her cough. She never got sick, but when she did, man did she. She was a mess, but insisted on coming to school, after all, the doctor said it wasn't contagious. She started at hearing the voice of one of the `druggies' as she liked to put it. They were potheads or drunks or alcoholics. This was one of the cuter ones, and he knew it. Other than the preps, the druggies were the most popular people in school. Which meant if you weren't a sports player or a pothead, you weren't `cool'. Kagome had joined the track team at that point and was very pretty, hence popular. The guy behind her made a comment about her butt, and she threw him a look, before bending over to get a drink of water, popping all four pills in her mouth. He exclaimed and then bet she couldn't swallow them all, so she had. She saw his eyes grow wide and he stepped closer to her.
"Yo, you can do that to me any time you want to, beautiful." The guy had smiled seductively and Kagome had blushed furiously before turning and fleeing the embarrassment. Word had gotten around pretty quick about her ability to `swallow' and hadn't blown over for a while.
She blushed deep red at that thought and also remembered how her friends still giggled about it sometimes. Every time she walked by that guy, she had always blushed, and sometimes he would lick his lips sensuously as he walked by her. She shook her hot face and told her mother that she was leaving. She entered the old well house, the important issue of the moment on her mind. She sighed and jumped into the well, going back to face her problem she had created.

YEAH! I didn't even have to have anything to drink to write that horrible! Yep, in my opinion, this is one of my worst chappies yet. Does anyone counter? I don't like it, but I've tried to revise it like a hundred times and can't make it better, so here. Deal, it isn't my best, but it will have to do. *sigh* I think I write better when I've had a few…
I do not promote, nor suggest drinking, I just happen to enjoy it…
Riasha: jerinking is vewy baaaaad fo' you, ya know? *waves martini glass around and giggles*
RyuuAngel: uhhhh *rushes over before Riasha falls and sets her down on the couch, where she immediately passes out* THAT is why you should not drink. *sigh*
ONE HOUR LATER:

RyuuAngel: *picks up phone* I'm sorry, Riasha is not able to pick up the phone right now due to a horrid hangover. I can have her… OH! Sorry. I didn't know you were Riasha's mother. *blushes and holds phone away from ear as yells are heard through it*
