Just a Note to Say…..
Unexpected Acquaintance
Chapter 3
Kagome exasperatedly dropped her suitcase on top of her new bed. The room they were assigned was actually a really nice, really BIG room. The main room was of course the living room, which was connected to a kitchenette, a bathroom, two bedrooms and a balcony over the garden behind the school. Kagome and Rin made an agreement that Kagome could have the bedroom next to the balcony. Kagome and Rin's rooms were connected by an adjoining door which Rin liked to keep open so they could always see each other.
"I can't wait for classes to start!" Kagome said excitedly, "especially music class! I haven't played my piano in like three days!"
Rin smiled, "But don't you have a keyboard piano?" "Yeah, but I haven't been able to play it, `cause I've been too nervous about college." Rin raised her eyebrows and walked through the adjoining door holding her piccolo in her hands. "You were nervous about college?" "Well," Kagome paused, "it could have been my nerves, or I could just have been excited."
Rin chuckled, "This is my first year too, but I was too excited to be nervous." Kagome smiled at Rin who put her piccolo back in its case.
"How long have you been playing the piccolo?" Kagome asked Rin as she walked through the adjoined doors and sat on an unoccupied part of Rin's bed.
"Since I was six. My dad thought I would become more lady like if I played an instrument. My mom picked the piccolo because she thought it was very `dainty'." Kagome and Rin both laughed.
Rin finished putting away her clothes and put her suitcase in her closet and shut the doors. "When you're done packing, wanna go look around? Or do you wanna practice?" Kagome told Rin that she would prefer to practice her piano, just so she would be ready to play, since they did have music that day after lunch.
"Ok, well, I'll be on the main level if you need me." Rin smiled at Kagome and walked away.
Kagome went back into her room and stared at the remnants of her suitcase. Her bureau was already full, but her new closet was bare. She hung all of her clothes and decided to do what Rin did, and put her empty suitcase in her closet.
She closed the closet doors and sat on her bed. She gazed at her basket full of music books and blank sheets of bar line paper. She picked it up and put it down beside her. She began to shuffle through the basket and pulled out her secret pick notebook with the lock.
Mrs. Higurashi gave the book to Kagome after her first year of piano lessons. Kagome began to create her own music and wrote it down in this book. Kagome felt that her music is her own, and that no one else deserves to listen to it. It's her own special music that seems magical to her. When she feels sad, her music echoes and sounds gloomy. But when she's happy, the notes ring and sound cheerful.
Whenever Kagome saw someone looking at her when she finished playing one of her songs, she felt embarrassed, like that person caught sight of her naked, and she couldn't help but blush and have to leave.
Kagome put the basket on the ground and kicked it underneath her bed. She walked over to her bureau and opened up her music box. When the lid opened, her room was filled with the delightful music of Pachabel. She closed her eyes and moved her head to the music.
When the song ended she pulled out a key on a silver chain and closed the lid to the music box.
She picked up her notebook and opened up the lock and placed the key around her neck and hid it underneath her tank top, so only the chain could be seen.
She picked up her keyboard case and walked into the main room. She assembled the legs of the keyboard and placed the board on top. She got up and took a chair from the kitchen and positioned herself so her back was facing the balcony.
She opened her notebook to see pieces of pale pink paper covered in notes, bar lines and letters. She fumbled through the book and smiled as she read the names of the songs and browsed through the notes.
Kagome finally decided on a song she wrote called "Mother's Tears" and positioned her fingers on middle C.
Then, the room was drowned in the beautiful music of Mother's Tears. Kagome's fingers moved swiftly across the board to bring out each individual sound perfectly.
She didn't feel sad, but she also didn't feel happy, she felt as if she were nothing. Her body felt light and at ease. At that is how her music sounded. It sounded care free and beautiful.
As Kagome lost herself in her music, she didn't realize that she left the door to the balcony open.
Luckily, there was no one outside….except for the boy Kagome met earlier. The boy with the amber eyes.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
He sat at a picnic table, his electric guitar beside him and his acoustic guitar in his hands. He was briefly strumming the notes. Until he was interrupted by the beautiful sound of piano.
It was absolutely the most perfect piece of music he had ever heard.
He closed his eyes as he listened to the music. It was wonderful. Each note was played perfectly. There was not a single mistake.
`The person playing the music must be the most radiant pianist in the entire school.' `That's the best thing I have ever heard,' he thought. `I wonder who the pianist is.' He opened his eyes as he sensed someone coming.
"Hey, Yash, buddy, what you doing?" the boy turned around and faced three of his friends.
"Nothing," he answered.
"If you come now," one of the boys said, "the girls' track team is about to go for their first run."
All the boys shot up in laughter. The boy gathered his stuff and left with his friends.
`I'll find you later.' He thought, and entered the school.

Kagome stopped the instant she heard the laughter. She ran out the door and looked over the balcony just to catch four boys walking inside.
"That's the boy with the amber eyes," she said to herself. "I wish I knew his name."
She packed up her things and put her keyboard under her bed and her notebook under the mattress.
The key remained around her neck.
`They weren't laughing at my music, were they?' she thought. Her face turning a light shade of pink. She felt embarrassed.
`I should have closed the balcony door!' her mind screamed. `I completely forgot it was open!'
She sighed and walked out of room, closing the door behind her. She decided that she would go find Rin, and go explore. She needed to clear her head.
She opened the door and closed it behind her. Heading off down the hallway in search of Rin.

Sango and Ayame sat outside on the balcony talking about boys and just regular girl things. They too heard the beautiful piano music, and Sango knew right away that was Kagome playing.
"That's my best friend," Sango said proudly. `But is Kagome's room so close I can hear her playing piano?' she thought.
"Wow, she's really good," Ayame complimented, "I wish I could play an instrument that well." "I know," Sango agreed. "But I guess with the way of things, it's even, `cause I Kagome couldn't in all of hell draw a tree and I can't even play the scale on a piano." Ayame laughed, causing Sango to laugh too.
"Who was that guy down there playing the guitars? He had two of them, electric and acoustic."
Ayame stopped laughing to answer Sango's question. "That was Inuyasha. He's a real jerk, he hangs around with all the spoiled rich kids. But I've never actually seen him play his music around other people though." Sango rolled her eyes. "That's the same with Kagome, she'll never play her own songs around people, even me! And I'm supposed to be her best friend!" Ayame smiled.
There was a knock on the door and Ayame got up to answer it.
Sango didn't pay any attention to who it was, probably just the RA telling everyone that classes start in 15 minutes.
Ayame came back and sat down on the lawn chair beside Sango. Sango took her sun glasses off and put them on top of her head and looked at Ayame.
"Yeah, so who was it?" "No one important." Sango shrugged, put her sunglasses back on and lay down further in her lawn chair.
"Hello Sango, my sweet."
Sango sat up and turned around to see the darkened image of Miroku standing behind her chair and smiling at her.
"You actually let him into our room!" Sango yelled. Ayame shrugged, "He said he just wanted to ask you something really quick then leave. So I said `sure'."
Sango grinded her teeth as Miroku grabbed a chair from the kitchen and sat on it beside Sango.
Ayame got up, "I'll leave you two alone." But Sango grabbed her wrist and pulled her back into her chair.
"You have to stay, because I need someone to keep me from killing him if he tries anything!" Miroku only smirked.
"I'm sorry you think of me that way, Sango." Sango ignored him and looked at Ayame who seemed to be smiling.
"What do you want?" she snapped at Miroku. "I only wanted to gaze at your beautiful face once more." Sango blushed and Ayame got up and left before Sango could make her sit down again.
"No, seriously, what do you want Miroku?" Miroku heard softness in her voice, so he decided to tell her the truth.
"I want to paint a picture of you."
Sango's mouth hung open, but she quickly closed it. No words escaped her mouth. The only sign she gave that she actually heard was the severe blush that was visibly appearing on her cheeks.
Before she could say anything, Miroku quickly added.
"Not a nude picture, just a facial picture." Sango's blush reduced a bit at hearing that and finally opened her mouth to say something.
"Why?" Miroku shrugged, "I dunno, I just want to see if I am capable of doing such a difficult drawing."
Sango gave Miroku a dirty look.
`If looks could kill,' Miroku thought.
"What's that supposed to mean!" she thundered. "Difficult drawing!"
Miroku hunched his shoulders as if he was merely one inch tall. "I only meant it would be a difficult drawing because it's hard to get such beautiful things drawn the way they are."
Sango was now the one that felt one inch tall. "Oh," was all she was able to say.
"We could do it whenever, and it wouldn't matter what you wear. I just want a picture of you smiling."
Sango had to look away from Miroku or else he would see her reddening face.
"Sure," she said in a bare whisper. Miroku grinned and looked as if he could dance.
"Thanks Sango. I promise you I'll try my best to get your beauty down perfectly. Now, would you mind if I walked you to class? We have history." Sango nodded and kept her mouth closed. She grabbed the things she would need and walked down the hallway with Miroku, Ayame walking behind them. But no matter what Ayame or Miroku said, Sango couldn't stop the hideous blush that was appearing on her face.

Kagome was lost, she knew it. She turned down hallway after hallway. Went down floor after floor, but she couldn't find Rin, or the History room.
"I'm late, I know I am."
She was now running down the hall. Looking for a familiar face so they could lead her to the right room.
"I don't even have my things," she cried in between pants.
Just then she was in a giant circular hallway that she remembered. If she just kept going straight, she'd be in the cafeteria, and then maybe she could ask someone for directions.
Luckily, she found the cafeteria. But unluckily, the doors were locked.
"Oh no!" she cried.
Her face was red and she felt her heart beating in her throat.
`Were am I going?' she thought.
Just then out of no where, she saw Amber Eyes.
"Wait, please!" she called.
Amber Eyes turned around to look at her, but then turned around and continued to walk.
"Hey, I asked you to wait!" she called again. But this time, he did not turn around to look at her.
Kagome increased her speed just so she could be at his side. "I asked you to wait," she repeated.
"Yeah, so?" Amber Eyes answered.
"So, I was hoping you could show me where the History room is because I'm late for class." Amber Eyes continued to walk, but never did he look at her.
"Do you not like to talk, or something?" The boy looked at her, rolled his eyes and intensified his pace.
"Will you stop? Please?" Kagome asked aggravated.
"What do you want?" Amber Eyes snapped. Kagome gasped, startled by the quickness in his voice.
"I…I was hoping you could tell me where the History room is." "How would I know?" he snapped again. Kagome shrugged, "I don't know. I was just hoping you would know." "Feh!" the boy said rolling his eyes.
He walked faster. So did Kagome.
`He's in my section. He'll have to go to the History room sooner or later.'
He looked back and saw her at his heels. He snorted at her and began to walk even faster. So fast Kagome had to run to keep up.
"Stop following me!" the boy yelled at her. "Not until you help me!" "I already told you I don't know where the god damn history room is, now screw off!"
With that, he ran down the hallway and out of sight. He ran so fast he was like a blur to Kagome. She stopped to catch her breath.
"Now where am I?" she asked herself. She looked around and was happily surprised to see that the door beside her said `History, Room 101'. Kagome sighed and quickly entered the room.
"Where the hell were you!" Rin snapped quietly at Kagome once she sat down beside her. "I got lost," Kagome confessed, making Rin laugh.
"I went looking for. I went back to the room and when I saw your stuff lying on your bed I took it for you." Rin reached in the desk and pulled out Kagome's leather bag. Kagome squealed and hugged Rin, "Thank you." Rin smiled.
When Kagome got out her things did she realize that in the room had to be over one thousand students. She clearly saw the thick yellow lines along the ground and knew that there were other sections in here too.
Kagome began to look around and she noticed Amber Eyes sitting three rows over from her. She scrunched up her eyes to give him a dirty look, but he looked right at her and she quickly turned her head away.
When Kagome began to study the faces of other students. She noticed a rather familiar black haired girl talking to a brown haired girl.
`SANGO!' her mind screamed.
Just then the teacher entered the room and instructed everyone to open their books and read pages 104 to 123.
Kagome did as she was instructed, but she couldn't help but look at Sango. The teacher said that as they do that, he will be right back.
Kagome found this too be the perfect opportunity to talk to Sango.
Kagome pulled back her chair making a large squeak across the floor, drawing several peoples' attention.
Kagome began to stand when Rin grabbed her arm.
"Where the hell are you going?" Rin hissed. "I need to go tell Sango something," Kagome reasoned. "Are you mad!?! You'll get in serious shit if you do!" "The teacher's not even here!" Kagome said with much more feeling and hiss that she intended.
She got up and walked across the rows.
People looked up at her as she passed them, including Amber Eyes.
"Where're you goin'?" he asked her as she passed him, but she just stuck her tongue out at him to shut him up.
He glared back at her and decided that he didn't care what will happen to her.
Kagome made her way across the yellow line and was two rows away from Sango.
"Sango…." she called. Sango looked up and looked at her. She smiled, but Kagome also saw fear in her eyes.
"What're you doing?" she asked, her eyes trembling. Kagome wiped the smile of her face, "What do you mean, `what're you doing?' I need to talk to you."
Kagome felt tears forming underneath her eyelids, she knew that if she blinked she would set them off.
"Kagome I - "
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT OF YOUR SEAT!?!"
Kagome spun around to meet the angry glare of the history teacher.
"I - I was just - " "Enough! What is your name?"
Kagome gulped, she knew she was in trouble. She knew everyone in that room was looking at her now. Even Amber Eyes. She knew he was smirking. She could just picture his face.
"What is your name?" the teacher asked again, his eyes full of rage. "Higurashi, Kagome," she said. She could feel the tears running down her cheeks.
`I really screwed up this time,' she thought. Kagome felt the heat in her face when she saw the teacher pull out a giant list and say. "You are in Musical Talent. What are you doing in the Artistic section?" He wasn't yelling, he was speaking calmly, but she could see that he was furious.
"I needed to speak to my friend," she answered. The teacher walked towards Kagome and stood in front of her. He glared down at her. His glasses falling to the tip of his nose.
"You will follow me, Ms. Higurashi." Kagome nodded and followed the teacher out of the room. Everyone was whispering as they stared at Kagome. Her tears were flowing now.
`How will I ever show my face in public again?' she thought.
He followed the teacher down the hallways and down even more hallways until they were in a tightly squeezed hallway with benches and a large oak door. Kagome noticed a boy lying on one of the benches, he was staring at the ceiling. He didn't even notice Kagome.
"You will sit there," the history teacher pointed to the benches, "and you will not move, young lady." Then he left.
The boy still did not look at Kagome. She wondered if he was asleep, but she realized he wasn't when she sat on the bench next to him. His pale blue eyes were fixed on a crack on the ceiling, but when Kagome looked at him, she saw his eyes shift to look at her.
"What did you do?" he asked her. Kagome couldn't even answer.
`Am I going to get suspended, or….expelled?' Kagome was shivering. The boy was staring at her in interest.
"You ok?" he asked her. Kagome shook her head, "I'm in a lot of trouble," she said, which cause more tears to fall down her face. The boy sat up and showed Kagome a look of sympathy.
"It's ok, you don't have to cry. I've been here for a couple of hours." "But we've only been here four hours," she sniffled. He smiled slightly, "Yeah, and I've been here since." Kagome tried to smile, but couldn't.
"What's your name, sweetheart?" Kagome wiped her eyes. "Kagome." He nodded and smiled at her.
"I'm Kouga."
Normally, if Kagome wasn't feeling so bad, she would have been excited to finally meet Kouga, but she was too worried to care.
"What happened?" "I don't really wanna talk about it," Kagome whined. Kouga sat back against the bench. "Ok, you don't have to." Kagome was thankful that he didn't beat the answers out of her.
"I talked to one of my friends in another group and us two went and began to throw rocks through windows." Kagome raised her eyebrows. "Why would you do something as stupid as that?" Kouga smiled then laughed, "Mr. Houkimato is a friend of my friend's father, and he knows us. Yet he still put us in different groups. We were mad." Kagome nodded and wiped her nose.
"I talked to my friend from another section too," Kagome confessed. Kouga smiled.
"And, when the teacher caught me, everyone was staring at me, and whispering. People even laughed," Kagome began to cry again. "And now, I can't show my face in their again without being laughed at."
Kagome's sobs echoed down the skinny hallway.
Kouga patted Kagome's shoulder and offered her a Kleenex. "Thanks." He smiled and she blew her nose.
"Don't worry about it Kagome, you'll be fine. They're just jealous." Kagome widened her eyes, "Jealous?" she inquired. Kouga nodded, "Yeah, you heard what Mr. H said, but you still tried to talk to your friend. You got guts, girl. And they don't. So they're jealous."
For the first time, Kagome laughed.
Mr. Houkimato stuck his head out the oak door and called Kagome.
"Good luck," Kouga sat patting her hand. Kagome smiled, "Thanks a lot Kouga, you made me feel a lot better. What can I do to thank you?" "Well, Saturdays, the different groups are allowed to spend time with each other for three hours. How would you like to get something to eat then?" Kagome smiled widely, "I'd like that a lot. Thanks." He nodded, "See ya then." "Bye."
Kagome walked into Mr. Houkimato's office, awaiting the arrival of her punishment.
A/N: Hey!!^_^!!!!! What did ya think? I like this chapter. Well, she finally met Kouga and said stuff to Yash, but don't worry, they'll say more!!!!;) I'll update soon, probably by tomorrow, if I'm lucky. Homework and all!!:P!!!
