Kagome's Will

Chapter Eight
Sango's strength

Sango sat up out of her boyfriends reach and looked him in the eye. “Miroku, Kagome would never take off that talisman. Something happened. Someone must have found out about it. She promised she'd never take it off, but if you don't remember seeing it-.”

“Sango, why don't we make sure it isn't among her possessions first before we start jumping to conclusions.”

“Miroku I-.”

“Sango!”

The two looked up to see Rin, Kohaku, Shippo and Sango's father coming towards her. Sango felt hot tears go down her cheeks as she got up and hugged each of them tightly. Miroku stood and shook Sango's father's hand.

“Miroku? How's it going?”

“Mr. Taijyia, I've seen better days.”

“Any word on her condition?”

Miroku looked at Sango who was still hugging her brother and his friends. He then leaned in closer to Sango's father.

“They were surprised that she was alive when we found her. They were even more surprised that she was alive when the arrived here.” He whispered. Mr. Taijyia shook his head.

“And the baby?”

“I have a friend who works here, he's trying to find out where it is.”

“They don't know?”

“If they do, they aren't giving us any information.” Mr. Taijyia nodded.

“Don't worry, I'll get some information.” Miroku watched the man take out his phone and dial a number.

“Myoga? Have you heard anything on that Higurashi Girl yet?”

“Well, it'd be nice to know so I can tell her mother whether or not to come for support or for a funeral.” Sango heard her fathers conversation, so did the others who were now all listening intently.

“Look, my daughter is a close friend of the victim. She needs to know what's going on. I want to know so I can call the girls mother. She deserves to know. Besides, as I understand, my daughter is the one who found Kagome, and-. All right, thank you detective.”
Sango walked to her father who took her into his arms and hugged her tightly. She pulled away as his grip on her released. He smiled down at her longing gaze.

“Daddy?”

“Don't worry princess, daddy's working on it.” With that he walked over to the receptionist desk.

Sango and Miroku looked at each other then back at the three teenagers who watched the scene unfold.

“Where's Kagome, Sango?” asked Shippo worriedly.

“What happened?” Kohaku asked, frowning with worry.

“Have you heard anything?” Asked a tearful Rin.

“Kagome's father, he-.” Sango couldn't say more as she broke into uncontrollable sobs.

“Oh Sango.” Rin cried as she hugged her friend. The two girls just sat there, comforted by the each other's tearful embrace, while Miroku did his best to explain.

“Kagome's father found out Kagome's secret so, he tried to kill the baby. Kagome wouldn't let him hurt the baby while it was still inside her, so he removed the baby by cutting him from her womb.” The two boys looked shocked and Rin gasped. “We didn't know that the baby had been removed until Sango found Kagome. I found the baby in the trashcan in a plastic bag. Her father had meant for them both to die.”

Miroku finished explaining the events of the evening, as Mr. Taijyia came over with a doctor.

“This is my daughter Sango, she found Kagome. This is Miroku Houshi, he found the baby.”

“Miss Taijyia, Mr. Houshi. My name is Dr. Kota. I have some questions I'm hoping you can answer. In return, I'll give you as much information as possible. I'm afraid we don't have much on her condition as of yet. She is still in x-ray.

“All right Dr. Kota. We'll answer as best we can.”

“Do you know the exact age of Miss Higurashi?”

“She's nineteen and six months.” Sango answered quickly.

“Has she ever- well. Has this ever happened before?”

“Yes, I'm afraid it has more than once.” Miroku replied.

“And was a report ever filed or anything?”

“She wouldn't let us.” Sango said with a guilty tone.

“The father of the child eventually took control of the situation. There hasn't been an incident like this in almost two years.” Miroku explained.

“Where is the father of the child?”

“He can't know.” Rin piped in.

“Why is that, Miss?”

“My name is Rin, he can't know because she doesn't want him to know. He left her without word. So, she doesn't want him to know.”

“The child is part demon though, isn't it?”

“Does it have demon features?”

“No, its blood work does though. The baby seems to be healing rather quickly. Now, not as quickly as full demon or half, but it seems to be doing well, despite the current circumstances.”

“Yes, the father is a half demon.”

“Do you know his name?”

“Yes.” They all said in unison. The doctor waited for a minute then finally asked.

“What is the fathers name?”

No answer.

“Why can't you tell me his name?”

“Because, if we do we could destroy everything Kagome has tried so hard to create for him. This child was supposed to be her way of keeping him. ” Rin explained.

“Now its our turn to ask questions.” Miroku said flatly. “Where is the baby?”

“He's up in Neonatal. Since he was premature by three months, they are keeping a close eye on him.”

“Is there any hope of him living?”

“Actually, I think he has a better chance than his mother.”

“What?”

“You see, when he first came here, demon doctors, like myself couldn't touch him. There was a barrier that protected him from demons. Then a second barrier seemed to appear, to keep humans away too. A while later, the human doctors were able to get to him and look him over. “

“I was the physician on call, when I came into the room, I felt a strange aura. It was a pure and peaceful aura, but protective and powerful. I heard what was going on upstairs and knew right away that Kagome was erecting a barrier around the child to keep it safe, and to keep it alive. The problem with this is, by erecting such a strong barrier Kagome is draining her energy and all our hopes as to saving her life. Once her energy is gone and Kagome feels the child is still threatened, she will use her life force until it too is gone. Then, once that is gone-.”

“She's dead.” Rin finished.

“Yes, that's why I wanted to know where, who and what the situation was with the father. Do you have any next of kin that can be notified?”

“Her mother, but we will wait until you have something on Kagome.” Mr. Taijyia stated.

“Well, I'd advise you to call her and have her come to the hospital at least.”

“She lives in America.” Informed Shippo. “She would get here for a day at least.”

“Well, call her and have her come right away. I don't know how much energy Kagome has left, and depending on her will her life force may be even less.”

“I understand. Thank you Dr. Kota.”

“You're welcome, one last thing though. Do you know what she wanted to call the baby?”
