Kagome's Will

Chapter Nine

Rin's Call, Sesshomaru's Decision

The next day…

Rin took everything in as it came. Kagome, a girl she knew as a sister more than a friend or babysitter. Now, her sister was a mother.

'Kagome never thought about giving up the baby. She even made sure to get the talisman proofed against Uncle InuYasha, so he wouldn't be found out or find and be shamed. She did that for him!' She thought angrily. She deserves this baby, especially after everything she's been through.'

“Rin?”

Rin snapped from her thoughts and looked at the young man who called her name.

“Rin, maybe you should call your dad.” Kohaku suggested. “I'd hate to meet his bad side.” Rin smiled.

Rin gasped as she quickly tool out her cell phone. `Damn, nine messages, I'll bet at least one is from dad.' Then she groaned out loud. “Oh my God! Uncle InuYasha was coming over tonight with- well to see us! Dad is going to KILL me!”

Everyone looked at her as if she had grown a second nose. She quickly turned and walked away from her crowd of friends and walked to the door.

Sesshomaru and Kagura sat in an uncomfortable silence across from InuYasha and Kikyo. It had been like this all night. InuYasha had come to see Sesshomaru about business, while Kagura used the time to get to know Kikyo better. However, business and acquaintance talks had ended well over and hour and half ago. Now they waited for Rin. Kagura, who was worried, excused herself time and time again. The ninth time she left the room Sesshomaru held her back. Rin had called the night before, just to let her parents know that she would be spending the night with Sango.

“No, I'll go call Rin.”

That phone call was placed about fifteen minutes past. Now Sesshomaru was worried. `If she's in trouble, I swear.'

“Sesshomaru, don't you have a way of getting a hold of Rin?” InuYasha asked trying to stifle a yawn. Sesshomaru growled.

“Yes, InuYasha. That `way' seems to be `turned off' at the moment.”

“I'll go try again.”

“No Kagura, stay here with InuYasha and Kikyo. I'll go see if dinner is ready. Rin will call. She has yet to fail to check in before curfew. Besides, I'm sure Kikyo is hungry, we might as well eat.”

Kikyo only smiled, as Sesshomaru nodded and left the room. No sooner had he left, the phone rang. Kagura ran to answer it.

“Hello?” Kagura asked in a worried tone.

“Mom?”

“RIN!” Kagura shouted loud enough to reach InuYasha's ears, bringing him into the room.

“Mom, I'm so sorry, I completely lost track of time and everything, I really sorry.”

“You should be young lady, so you know what time it is? Do you realize how worried we were about you? Where are you? I hope you realize you're grounded.” Rin rolled her eyes.

“But mom, I-.”

“No buts Rin. I want to know where you are so I can send Jaken to-“

“I am at the hospital mom.” Rin said without any further explanation. Kagura didn't bother to ask why.

“Oh my God Rin! What happened? Are you all right? Which one of the boys did it? I'll kill them!” Listening to her mother rant and rave made Rin smile. However, Kagura was the only one other than Rin in her family to know Kagome's secret.

“MOM! I'm here because of Kagome.” Kagura stopped and looked at the confused face of InuYasha returning her gaze.

“Why? What happened?” Kagura asked, her gaze never leaving InuYasha's eyes.

“Mom, Kagome's father found out. He beat her within an inch of her life and, he.”

Rin stopped. Her emotions were becoming too much to handle. “Oh mom.”

“Rin, tell me what happened. I need to know if your father or your uncle need to get involved.” InuYasha started at her seriously.

“No! It InuYasha's fault this happened in the first place?”

“Rin, tell me what happened.”

“He cut the baby out of her momma!” she cried.

Kagura gasped, lowered her eyes tearful gaze and dropped the phone. She then threw her head back and screamed. “SESSHOMARUUUU!!!!!!!” InuYasha picked up the phone, wanting to know what had caused Kagura's actions.

“Hello?”

“Uncle InuYasha?” Rin asked shakily.

“Rin? Hey kid, where you at?”

“Um, I'm with friends.” InuYasha looked at Kagura who was now sitting on her knees next to the phone.

“By the looks of your mother, I'd say you're not just with friends. It looks like you just told her some one died.” Rin did her best not to sob. She bit her lip in determination.

“Can I talk to my dad please? I'm sorry I'm not there. I don't think I'll be there tonight. I wanted to see you Uncle InuYasha, but something's come up and I can't get out of it.”

“Something more important than your Uncle Yasha?” Again, Rin bit her lip.

“Just a little, don't worry though. I'll make it up to you, I promise.”

“Hey don't worry about it kiddo, your dads here. I'll let you talk to him.” With that, InuYasha handed the phone to Sesshomaru.

“Rin.”

“Daddy.”

“Where are you?”

“Daddy, I'm sorry. I should've told you.”

“Tell me what Rin?”

“Daddy, I need your help. Can you come to the hospital? I swear, nothing's happened, I'm just fine. Please, I'll explain once you're away from Uncle InuYasha.”

Sesshomaru was tense, what could have happened? Why didn't she want InuYasha to know?

“Alright, where exactly are you?

Rin hung up the phone. Her father was coming. She knew she could rely on him to help them find out about Kagome's condition and the babies as well. Her big heart felt heavy as she walked back inside the hospital. All her friends were sitting there, each lost in their own thoughts. Kohaku saw her come in and went to her.

“Well?”

“Well, he's on his way here.”

“Oh boy.” Shippo said worriedly.

“No, I'm going to ask his help to find out about Kagome.”

“WHAT?” Sango practically screamed, attracting some attention from others in the waiting room. “Why? Why would you tell him about Kagome, we will find out soon enough!”

“Dad needs to know. Mom knows, but dad he can help us. If something happens to either Kagome or the baby dad can help. He needs to know in order to help though.”

“Rin, what if InuYasha finds out?” Miroku asked quietly.

“Dad won't tell him. Dad will keep anything from InuYasha if he thinks that the family honor is in jeopardy. Besides, I asked him not to. That's enough reassurance for me.”

“I hope you're right about this Rin.” Sango said quietly.

Sesshomaru sat in the back of his black Mercedes Benz, pondering his daughter's words and the events of that evening.

* Flashback *

Sesshomaru hung up the phone and walked back into the library where his wife and guests all sat patiently.

`Something is not right. Her smell is, different.' He thought as he walked into the room.

Kagura and InuYasha looked worried, but Kikyo sat next to InuYasha holding his arm. InuYasha hadn't shown any emotion to Kikyo, but then his heart belonged to someone else. That and he was in the presence of his brother.

“Sesshomaru?”

“I have to go meet Rin.”

“Did she tell you?”

“No, not yet. I suppose you already know.” Kagura nodded.

“Yes, she told me about a week ago.”

“I see.”

“What?” InuYasha asked with a confused look. Sesshomaru looked at his brother then back at his wife.

“Kagura, would you keep our guest company? I shouldn't be long.”

* End Flashback *

`Kikyo carries the scent of a mother, however. The child within her belly, does not have a recognizable scent.' He pulled out his cell phone and dialed a number.

“Detective Myoga speaking.”

“Myoga, I need information as to what happened on the Higurashi abuse case.”

As the pulled up to the hospital entrance, Sesshomaru didn't wait for Jaken to fully stop.

“Go park the car Jaken, wait for me in the hospital entrance.” He looked at his watch. Rin had called a little over twenty minutes ago. As he entered, his uncanny sense of smell caught a scent he recognized. He then felt he had an idea as to what to expect. He remembered Rin's words as he reached the elevator.

`Fifth floor dad, I'll wait for you by the elevator.' Sesshomaru came up with a solution to one problem as he prepared himself to face the next. ` A simple test will find out what is going on.' He thought to himself as the doors opened

Rin sat there, waiting for her father to come through the doors. Each time the doors would open, she'd hold her breath and heart would skip a beat. She didn't fear her father; he never gave her a reason to. Other than a stern lecture and some serious time being grounded, Sesshomaru had shown Rin the love of a strong father. She was almost seventeen now. She was being `allowed' to `court' Kohaku. Sesshomaru was like any other father. He and Kagura had been kind to her, adopting her after her family had been killed. While she was too young to remember, she remembered Sesshomaru discovering her. He had been the head of the Police Department at the time, now he owned the Hospital and Security forces that came from the Department of the Peace. Kagura had accepted Rin as her daughter immediately. She and Sesshomaru could have easily had another child, but they felt that she was more than enough. Rin smiled.

`Dad and mom have always been there for me. I will never let them down, I know they'd never let me down.' She watched as the elevator door opened, revealing a tall white haired man.

“DADDY!”
