Kagome's Will

Chapter Fifteen
Willing to Live, Longing to Die

Kagome felt cold. She could hear voices talking, but couldn't understand them. She looked around as the voices vanished from her ears. She found herself in a field, surround by a forest. She knew he was there, watching her from the shadows. Waiting for her to release her grasp on life. Kagome felt for her talisman, which gave her comfort when she needed it most. Like her mark, it too was gone. Her spirit sank, which brought the dark figure from the shadows.

“Kagome, don't you tire of this?”

“No, I will die if I have to, my child will not.”

“So brave are you.”

“Feh.”

“I see you didn't manage to purify your mates attitude from your soul.”

“Do you think I can't handle you on my own?”

“You haven't been able to so far.” Just then the dark figure transformed before her, taking on the form of her father.

“No.” she whispered. “It wasn't my father, it was you!”

“What do you think will happen when they find your father? I'd say he'll rot in prison.”

“You bastard, you will not win this. I swear.” Kagome watched as he took on another form, this time it was one she knew. “It was you? WHY? HOW COULD YOU?”

He smirked as he came up to her, touching the side of her face with his long fingernail.

“Kagome, I have loved you for so long, yet you never noticed. I wanted to feel you, your touch. I've wanted to feel your delicate body beneath me for sometime, and I intend to get what I want. Now Kagome, InuYasha is out of my way, as is his dear girlfriend. She is indeed a fool. But, InuYasha was the bigger fool, giving up love for honor. Now I have you and you will not die and you will not live until you give yourself to me.”

“Why would I do that?”

“The Shikon Jewel that resides in your body gives off a powerful energy. You could draw on that to live, but if you do your power of holding a barrier over you child will fail, thus he will die.”

“I'm not really seeing any reason as to why I'd give myself to you.”

“Foolish wench, I am currently allowing you to live by giving you my strength. With each passing moment, the Shikon Jewel becomes tainted. Unless you draw your energy from that, it will be come far too tainted for you to purify. Thus, I would have control of your body, mind and soul.”
Kagome felt herself shudder at his words. This man, he had managed to destroy everything she held dear. She wasn't going to let him win this one.

“I really don't see an upside of this for myself. I may as well just give up.”

He laughed evilly as he touched the nape of her neck with fingertips.

“You don't have a choice. I am your only source of energy. You're mate doesn't know where you are and he couldn't care less.” Kagome felt her chest become tight as he spoke.

“No.” She whispered.

“What?”

“NO! YOU DID THIS! InuYasha will live AND my son will live! I WILL DIE IF I SO CHOOSE!”

“You can't die Kagome.” With that he scratched her neck and drew blood, then he cut his palm and placed it over the deep cut on the girls neck. “You and I have only to mate now. You can't die unless I die.”

“You forget Naraku, I know better.”

“What ever do you mean?”

“This is the spirit world, there is no blood. All of this, is a mere illusion.” She then pulled away; drawing her energy she smacked him and watched him slink away back to the shadows.

“This isn't over Kagome, you will be mine.”

“I am no one's, Naraku. My heart and mind belongs to whom I please. No one may have them, without my consent.” She felt her energy leave as he faded into the shadows of the forest. `I have to get out of here!'

Kikyo walked through the hospital, getting the tour of the maternity ward and learning of what procedures to expect when the time came. She had waited for InuYasha, but as usual he was late. She didn't expect him to come in all honesty. In fact, she didn't expect him to agree to marry her either. He did though; he made the decision and stuck to it. Now, though she regretted everything.

`I was going to become a Miko, and InuYasha was going to marry Kagome and take over his father's company. What happened? Me. That's what happened. I shouldn't have accepted that drink, I should have know better. I need to tell InuYasha, he needs to know. He doesn't deserve to have his life ruined. He deserves to be with Kagome. Kagome saved him more than once, it's only right that they're together.'
As Kikyo finished her thoughts, she found the tour had taken a turn into a small room. She looked in the window of the Neonatal ICU. She saw the will to survive in every one of those babies' faces. Save one. This baby had a will and the will of someone else. She leaned closer to read the name on the baby's crib.

`Higurashi'

“Higurashi?” `Where have I heard that name before?' Before she could figure it out, the tour guide told her.

“Little boy Higurashi is our newest and smallest addition. He was born three months early, and weighed about two pounds. He is the cutest thing though, and he may be the smallest, but he's also the strongest.”

“What of his mother?”

“Sorry, I don't know,”

“That's all right.”

As the tour ended, Kikyo headed down the elevator. She waited as the doors opened on every floor. It stopped on the fifth floor. As the doors open, Kikyo saw Miroku and Sango. Suddenly she remembered the name. She quickly stepped out of the elevator.

“Miroku! Sango!”

“Kikyo? What are you doing here?” Miroku asked calmly.

“Where is Kagome?"

Why do you want to know?” Sango asked bitterly.

“Tell me why she has a baby up in maternity.” Sango and Miroku looked at each other then back at Kikyo.

“The baby hasn't been named. They finally got the information on Kagome thus her name is on the cradle.”

“No, where is Kagome?”

“Why do you want to know?” Asked Mrs. Higurashi as she came upon the scene. “Who are you?”

“Are you Kagome's mother?”

“Yes.”

“Mrs. H, it's me. Kikyo.”

“Kikyo? InuYasha's wife?”

“Not for long, but yes.”

“What does that mean, Kikyo?” Sango asked in a stern tone.

“Where is Kagome, may I speak to her?”

“Kagome isn't able to see anyone.”

“Why?”

“Because, she-. She isn't able to speak anymore.”

“Not able to speak? Why? What happened? Where is she?”

Kikyo's questions forced Mrs. Higurashi into more sobs. Miroku held her as she cried into his chest.

“Miroku, Sango?”

Miroku only looked at her, then at the woman in his arms.

“Kagome has been struggling for life. She fought to keep her child alive. In the process, she-.” Miroku didn't finish; he looked down and fought his own tears.

“She what?”

“She's killed herself, trying to protect InuYasha's son. She is alive only because of the machines.” Sango answered coldly.
