Chapter Ten:

Now Or Never

When Kagome awoke the next morning, she replayed the dream she had over and over again in her head. Inuyasha had taken her to a beach . . . she had kissed him, they both got upset and he said he was taking her ho-

 

“Come on …“ She heard the hanyou. “You have everything?”

 

“What?”

 

“You're going home. Do you have everything you want?” He asked again with a sigh. He looked strange. Sickly. She shrugged off the strange feeling she got.

 

“I'm…going home?” She asked uncertainly.

 

“Yeah, and I am going back to where I came from…”

 

“To jail?” A wave of nausea swept over her. She would most likely never see him again…He would probably be locked up for life now. She took a deep breath and he lay down next to her. She turned over to where she was looking in his eyes. “Why?” She asked. That was a stupid question! She shouldn't care. She should be happy. She was going home at last. Finally she would be free of the arrogant, snobby serial killer. She tried to think good thoughts…but that only made her feel worse. She didn't want to leave and that was that. She of course wouldn't tell him that though…

 

“I've realized what an idiotic jerk I am. Kagome, you don't deserve what I gave you. I yelled at you, called you names, and I did all that because you stood up for a little girl.” A soft sigh escaped his parted lips and he turned his gaze away from her's. “Ready?” he asked after a long…long pause.

 

“Can't I spend the day with you?”

 

“Why?”

 

“Well I -what I am trying to say -well… in all this time I have spent with you, you've become my friend…and I uh…just don't wanna leave just like that…” She stumbled along and quickly added, “Please?”

 

After a while of thinking, he finally nodded. “Yeah…” With that she scooted closer, and he wrapped his warm arms around her. Something that even surprised him at the moment. “Kagome…I…”

 

“What?”

 

“Never mind…” He sighed, and she snuggled into him.

 

“Tell him now…” A voice inside her head hissed.

 

“Tell him what?”

 

“That you love him idiot! IT'S NOW OR NEVER!” It yelled at her. A few tears rolled down her cheeks and she whisper aloud, “Never…”

 

“What?” Inuyasha asked wiping the tears away with his hand. “What's wrong?” He asked, a little concerned.

 

“Nothing.” She mumbled. Hours passed and soon it grew dark. Inuyasha looked to Kagome only to see her peaceful, sleeping face. He stood up without waking her and gathered her in his arms, bridal style.

 

With that he made his way through the house and out the door. He walked and walked until he finally arrived at Kagome's house. Searching for a way to get in he decided her window would be the best. He jumped up, careful not to wake her and opened it carefully. He stepped in and lay her down on the bed, covering her up.

 

He sighed and began looking around for pen and paper. After a while he found a pencil and notebook. He wrote:

 

Dear Miss Higurashi,

I'm sorry for what I did to your daughter and I know this is an apology that you probably won't accept. But your daughter has shown me what it is like to be happy again. For that I thank her. I brought her back to you because no one as smart, beautiful, and pretty much perfect deserved how I treated her. I am returning to Prison tonight and I hope everything goes as it normally did now. Sorry for everything I did…

 

Inuyasha Takeda

 

He ripped the page out and put it in front of her door. He then leaned down and pressed his lips against her forehead. “I love you Kagome…” He mumbled into the darkness. He made a choking sound in then back of his throat as if he were trying to hold back tears. Taking a deep breath he jumped out the window and was making his way down the street towards the prison.

 

As if on cue the sky started to cry the tears that he wouldn't. “Maybe…it's better this way…” He whispered.

Yes, it's as short and stupid as always. I don't know how many more chapters are left, but not many.
