A/N: Thanks to all of those who have reviewed this story, sorry it's taken so long to write, but I should warn you that there are only one, maybe two chapters left and an epilogue.

“Miroku, I swear that if you don't shut it about my children then you won't be having any of your own.”

 

“Ok, ok Inuyasha there is no need to be rash.”

 

“Yea well shut it.” Inuyasha said as he walked around Keade's small hut. Kagome was with one of the village women getting ready. Keade, Miroku, and Sango insisted upon Kagome wearing traditional wedding attire, although for a mating ceremony it really wasn't necessary. Apparently they were combining the human marriage ceremony with the youkai mating ceremony.

 

“Kagome, you are to be a married woman, don't you think you should be faithful? Although if you wanted I'm sure we could work something out.” Inuyasha heard Miroku say from the other room. He walked in and she ran to him.

 

“Miroku get out I need to talk to Inuyasha.” She said without looking from Inuyasha's chest, where her head was currently buried. Miroku nodded to Inuyasha and left.

 

“Kagome what's wrong?” Inuyasha asked.

 

She looked up with tears in her eyes.

 

“Inuyasha, what do think I wife is?”

 

The question took him by surprise. “Where did this come from?”

 

“I was talking to Sango and Keade earlier.”

 

“Oh? And what did they say?” He asked as he walked to the corner and sat down with her in his lap.

 

“They said that men in this era use women to breed sons and that women are expected to participate in wifely duties or the husband will rape them. They also said that especially mates of youkai are expected to be submissive and they are left out of all decisions and Inuyasha, while I don't think you'll be like that, I have to know, because I couldn't handle it. I refuse to be submissive!”

 

“Kagome, calm down!” He said softly. “I would never expect you to be submissive, at least not completely. I like that you fight back, I like that you get in my face when I do something you don't like. But I'm not going to lie to you, there may be times, especially when we're in public in front of other youkai where you will not to at least pretend to be submissive. And I promise you that I would NEVER hurt you in any way! I especially would not rape you!”

 

“Thank you Inuyasha, I know it's stupid, but I needed a little reassurance. Wait why do I have to be submissive in front of youkai?” She said with a little anger in her voice

 

“Because, if you aren't then they can say that the mating is invalid and take you from me, you are a strong miko and especially because I am a hanyou, they will be more than happy to take you away. Youkai take mating very seriously and if a mate isn't submissive then it is taken as a sign that she does not want to be with her mate and was possibly forced. If they have even a small clue that the female was forced they have every right to take her from her mate.”

 

“Wow, I had no idea, but don't think that will get you out of anything when we're alone.” She said sternly.

 

He laughed, “Of course, I wouldn't expect anything less.” He leaned in to kiss her.

 

Just then Sango walked in and screamed, “Kagome what were you thinking? Inuyasha, can't you wait three more hours? Come on Kagome!”

 

They were using Kaede's hut for the ceremony, and the area in the center of the village for what Kagome had called a 'reception' from what he could tell all a 'reception' was an excuse for Kagome to give all his ramen away and to make him go hunting to feed the entire village. And if he didn't get some of that ramen...

 

He had complained about doing all that hunting, saying that the villagers should be feeding them because they had just become mates, all she had said was that she wanted it this way and if he could have waited one more day or even a couple more hours then she could have went home and gotten the food, so he shouldn't complain.

 

He hated that Kaede and Miroku had insisted that she wear traditional wedding attire and looked more like a doll than a living, breathing, being. But, he would say that without the makeup, which he hated anyways, she looked beautiful. She was now standing in front of him about to be his mate. All he could think was how it could be when he was a dirty

hanyou that he could have a mate like her.

 

"Kagome, you look beautiful," he whispered in her ear as they held hands and waited for Kaede to finish the ceremony.

 

She smiled at him and whispered, "I can't wait 'til tonight," he smirked at her, and whispered,

 

"me either."

 

Finally, Kaede finished her part and it was time for the markings. Inuyasha leaned down and kissed her neck and then bit into it and Kagome picked up his hand and used his hand to mark his neck. Within a few moments they were finished and Kaede introduced them as 'mates' to the few guests, that included Miroku, Sango, Shippo, Myoga, Kirala, and a few other trusted villagers.

 

Miroku had had a smirk on his face during the entire ceremony.

 

Shippo walked up to Inuyasha and said, "You better take care of Kagome or I'll kick your ass, and I mean it!'

 

Inuyasha just laughed and said, "You know I'll take care of her, runt, and a... if you want you can stay with us too, but it's up to you." He more than whispered the latter. If it wasn't for Shippo having exceptional hearing he wouldn't have heard it.

 

"Really? I thought...wait you're jokin' right?"

 

"NO!" Inuyasha replied, adding a thump over the head. "Kagome would want you there, but you're NOT callin' me Otou, got it! If you wanna call Kagome Okaa you gotta talk to her."

 

"But won't it look kinda bad if I called Kagome Okaa and didn't call her husband Otou?"

 

"Ok, then if Kagome says you can call her Okaa then you can call me Otou, but only if she's okay with it."

 

"Ok, Otou." Shippo said with a giggle. So Inuyasha hit him on the head.

 

"Have you talked to your Okaa about it yet?"

"Inuyasha, I have to tell my Mom that we're married!"

 

"Why tonight?"

 

“Because, we're married now and my mom really should know, I mean it's bad enough that she couldn't be at the ceremony, besides, don't you think that since the hut isn't finished yet it would be safer to spend our wedding night in my time?”

 

“Feh, I guess.” Inuyasha smirked and picked up his bride to go to the well.
