Last Time...

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING?!" she yelled. "I'M SORRY I THOUGH YOU WERE ALREADY DRESS!" He said. "YOU KNOCK BEFORE YOU COME IN!" she said. "I'm not use to it ok!" he said. Kagome then blushed and realized that she was still half naked and that this was his house. "Do you mind?" she asked. Inu-yasha slammed the door closed his face flushed. He closed his eyes and her long limbs came in mind along with her nicely shaped breast, which he couldn't see, clearly do to his shirt. "Awe! Damn it! I'm gonna kill Sango!" He said walking down the stair towards where maybe he could find something to drown himself in. Kagome looked down at the floor and almost wanted to faint, she couldn't believe the first night and he already walked in on her. This was going to be a very long stay if not in time wise, in her mind it would be.

She walked down the stairs looking at the beautiful paintings; she had to admit that he had taste. She smiled when she saw a particular favorite of hers. She was majoring in art in high school, that was before she made a rash decision to marry and lose her most memorable time, but that was the sacrifice she made for love. Her small footsteps made him turn towards her; she was wearing just the shirt, which reached, to her knees. He pulled out the packet of shrimps and went back to making dinner. She didn't know what to do. This wasn't her home; she didn't know where things were she had no control.

"Is there anything I could help with?" she asked. He looked towards her. "Normally if we were friends I would say yes, but you're my guest" he said. "I don't mind," she said. "My cooking isn't all that great; I mostly eat out. I stopped cooking since..." he stopped and looked at the mix. He looked up and smiled at her. "I hope you like shrimps" he said. She nodded softly. He opened the lid and the steam came out. She watched quietly something about him mad her wonder about the man who was her husband. She shook her head. She never regretted anything. She was always happy with what her heart made her feel.

The sound of the wine spilling into the glass made her look up. Inu-yasha looked at her. For that split second they locked eyes, it was as if getting hit with a information over load, when Kagome saw the pain and understanding that was in his eyes. "It's red," he said. "May I ask what happened for you to know how I feel right now?" she asked looking down at the wine. Inu-yasha walked over to the stove where he checked on what ever he was making. "My fiancé," he said. She looked up. "I'm sorry," she said. Inu-yasha chuckled. "Don't. She passed away 5 years ago," he said before continuing to work on their dinner. She just sat with her mouth wide open.

*5 years? I can't even breath without feeling pain, but he lived with it for 5 years!* She thought watching the man before her. Her heart ached for his pain, which surprised her. "Ok it's done" he said setting a plate in front of her filled with what he created. "It's not five star but I think you'll enjoy it" he said. She nodded. She picked up the fork next to her and took a bite of the pasta with shrimps detailing it. He watched her from where he stood with his bowl. "This is really good" she said looking towards him. He nodded. "Knock your self out" he said jerking his head towards the pot full. She nodded. For the first time in two days since the news of her husband's death she was able to enjoy her meal.

They eat in silence yet to both there was this comfortable atmosphere. "I'm sorry for not knocking" he stated. "No I'm sorry that I...I took so long" she said. He nodded. "To be honest with you, I don't know why but I find myself thinking why even bother to look good when the one who would tell me 'you look beautiful' isn't here anymore. I can't even look at the mirror" she said. "You look beautiful" he repeated. Something with in her jumped, a new excitement, which she wasn't used to. "Mr. Takagi?" she asked. He shook his head. "Keh! I don't understand why females always like it when their partners say they're beautiful" he said facing the sink where he was ready to wash everything.

"It makes us feel beautiful, wanted, like we belong" she said with a small smile. *She was beautiful, I remember when she use to ask me all the time...* he thought with a painful smile. "I suppose so" he said. She looked down at her glass once more. "Wine is such a elegant drink, yet at first taste it's bitter" she said. "Much like love" said Inu-yasha. Kagome looked up at him. "Love is always bitter, each time you try it. You feel your heart burn for the taste yet your afraid to try it for the fear that this time you might not be able to control it" he said. "But love is just that isn't it? You sacrifice something in order to gain something greater" said Kagome. "Sacrifice? Do you really believe that?" he asked looking at her.

"I don't believe it Mr. Takagi, I live it" she said. "Your husband was 10 years older then you right?" asked Inu-yasha. Kagome nodded. "How did you guys meet?" he asked. "He was a friend of my fathers. I had seen him once before, my 16th birthday" she said. "I'm guessing that's where all the magic began" he stated. She nodded. "He asked me to dance, he charmed me...no he charmed my heart" she said with a smile. The phone ringing got her out of the mood. He grabbed the receiver. "Hello?" he asked. "Oh it's your dumb ass" said Inu-yasha. Kagome smiled. "Yeah she's fine, yes I gave her something to eat" yelled Inu-yasha into the phone. Kagome looked around the spacious house. Something about everything was told her that he was very laid back, yet very perfect. She saw a picture of him holding a woman who had jet-black hair and brown eyes, she was smiling yet hers were distant. Kagome found herself walk towards the picture.

Inu-yasha hung up with Miroku and turned towards his guest who was slowly nearing towards something. He walked right behind her, and felt the clench in his heart when she picked up the frame. "Guess I missed that one" he said. Kagome looked at him. "What do you mean?" she asked. "Nothing" he said talking the frame, and looking at it for a second before looking at her. Kagome had a feeling that he wasn't going to place it back on the table. She looked at him. His eyes were angry yet they held great pain. "I'm sorry I'm already intruding" she said. "No, it's my fault" said Inu-yasha walking towards the counter top. Kagome watched him pour the wine again and take a few sips. "How come you work for the FBI and you're a lawyer?" asked Kagome. "My plan was to be just a lawyer but five years ago, I got a offer to be part of the FBI and decided that I wanted to work there" he said.

"I see" Kagome said. "What about you, when did you tie the knots?" he asked. "When I was 17...I was very young, but I felt beautiful and vibrant with him" said Kagome with a smile. Inu-yasha watched as her hand went to the band of platinum around her finger. "You should take that off" he said. Kagome looked at him as if in question. "Your ring" he said. "It's not easy to just forget who I am" she said. "But you did it once before didn't you?" asked Inu-yasha. Kagome gasped softly. "I don't know what you're talking about" she said. "Miss. Higurashi you're not the same Mrs. Kinomoto. When that band was put around your finger you forgot who you really were and said that you sacrificed it for the man you love" said Inu-yasha. Kagome stood where she was and felt as if she was being stripped naked with his words. He was right after all.

"It's pretty late, I'll leave you to do what you do" he said. Kagome looked up at him. Inu-yasha saw the small full lips quiver as if she was going to break down. He turned towards her and was going to show her support when she just blew up. "How dare you! You don't know me, I didn't judge you to be some lonely jerk that can't get over his fiancé's death! I showed you respect and stayed quite! I didn't ask questions. And don't call me Miss. Higurashi, I'm Mrs. Kinomoto" she yelled as her eye glassed over. Inu-yasha sighed. How did he know this was going to happen, he was just happy that she didn't have any kind of spell over him that'll make his knees go weak, making him fall into a sitting position. He walked over towards her and did what not only surprised his client but himself as well.

Kagome's eyes widened when she felt his arms encircle her and pull her towards him. Inu-yasha held her gently and closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Listen Miss. Higurashi for now you have to be someone else just so your love doesn't go to waste. I told you before in the car that I know how you feel, and though that comment about me being a jerk really pissed me off I'll let it slide. Just breathe and take life one day at a time, and you'll be ok. I'm fine after all" he said. She didn't know again why but that pain inside went away when he spoke. She wrapped her arms around him and started to cry full-blown. Inu-yasha surprised didn't say much. *I'll find the bastard who killed you...I promised* he thought looking towards the picture.
