Location: Modern day Tokyo

Sesshomaru slipped out of the bedroom and went into his study. Picking up the telephone, he dialed the number for Tatsuya's mother.

“Hello” A light and tinkling voice answered.

“It is Sesshomaru, may I speak to Tatsuya?”

“Yes, hold a minute” the voice replied. Sesshomaru could hear in her voice what many could not. That she was tired and in pain. He waited as she called Tatsuya to the telephone and heard him asking who it was. He could hear her replying that it was his father. When she first met Sesshomaru and Rin she was thankful for finding someone to help raise an unruly two-year-old half dragon. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she asked if they could take him in full-time having him come and visit, it was hard to believe that had been nearly 13 years since they had taken him in. Tatsuya mother was a strong woman; the treatments would work for a while, then stop. He was actually a bit surprised she had not passed on.

“Papa Sess? Is something wrong?” Came the worried voice of his foster son.

“Tate,” he started, it was a name that was given to him by the twins that just stuck. “You know I do not like to interrupt your time with your mother, but I need you do to something for me.”

“Of course what do you need?”

“Rin and I will be leaving for Kyoto in a few hours. I need you to go to Ayaka's and get the twins, I will call Shippo and have him watch them so you can spend your weekend with your mother.”

“I'll get the girls, why are you and Mama Rin going to Kyoto?”

“We got a call the Jun isn't doing so well. We are going to do see him.”

“How bad is he?”

“He might not make it, Tate.”

“Papa Sess, mother is actually feeling better, I'll get the girls if you can have Shippo or one of the drivers take us to Kyoto” A bit of a growl was in his voice as he said it. He wished he could have his license so he could drive and if he was to take the train that far it was certain that he would be given a hard time if he was traveling with two eight year old girls. “I mean we are all family. Mama Rin must be heartbroken. You will need us there.”

“Of course you are right. I will call Shippo I am sure he can bring you. I will call him and tell him. I am sure Shippo would want to be there. He helped so much with Jun while he was growing up.”

“Like he does now?”

“Yes, I will see you when you get there.”

After hanging up the telephone Sesshomaru called Shippo's house telephone when the answering machine clicked on he hung up the telephone with a growl. Walking into the twins' bedroom he listened as Shippo's cell telephone went to voicemail. `What is that kitsune doing?' Sesshomaru growled to himself, looking out the window in the girls' room he could see that both of Shippo's cars were in his driveway.

“Red? Don't you think you ought to answer that?” A woman asked in a breathy voice. The telephone had just started ringing for the third time. As soon as it would go to the machine the caller would hang up then the cell phone would start ringing.

“No, I'm a bit busy right now” grunted the male voice.

“But Red, it is distract-ING” the end of the statement ending in a squeak.

“Don't think about it. Instead feel ME!” as he said this he thrust up again into his beautiful wife. His green eyes twinkling with mischief and promises of pleasure, his long red hair was fanned out under him. “Besides they can call back later or leave a message on the machine if it is important enough to try and get me TO-STOP-DOING-THIS.” The last four words were punctuated with him pulling down on her hips and thrusting up into her at the same time, then ended with him flipping them over and rolling his hips to cause a moan to spill from her lips.

As soon as the machine beeped an enraged growl came over the phone lines “SHIPPO WHAT IN THE SEVEN LEVELS OF HELL ARE YOU DOING!?! YOU BETTER PICK UP THE PHONE NOW!”

“FUCK!” Shippo yelled, jumping way from his wife like a couple of teenagers that had been caught in the act, by a parent, this was almost the truth.

The shock of hearing Sesshomaru's enraged growl across the phone lines caused Shippo to lose his full human form and revert back to the half human half fox form he had as an adolescent. For some reason Shippo could face down some the toughest rogue youkai and not lose control of a form, but when faced with Sesshomaru anger it was always the same including his tail puffing out like a bottle brush.

Shippo scrambled across the bed to grab the telephone. His wife giggled at the state of his tail, grabbed the hairbrush lying next to the telephone, and started to brush it to calm him down.

“What is it Sess?” Shippo growled into the telephone.

“Shippo, I need you to bring the children to Kyoto tomorrow.”

“Okay, but why?”

“It is Jun. Miroku called and left a message today telling us that Jun was dying. I will be taking Rin in a few hours. We will fly there while it is still dark.”

The anger that Shippo had instantly vanished, “Oh no, Rin must be devastated. You haven't lost a pup since Ken died.”

“Hopefully she will not take it as hard as when he passed on. The thing that was the hardest was we knew that the bomb was coming but Ken refused to leave he thought he would be needed. I wish one of us had known the year that it was going to happen.”

“Sometimes blame myself for not asking Kagome more questions.”

“You were just a pup Shippo.”

“Sess, I was fifty fucking years old. I knew a lot more than anyone realized. I just liked to play that I was a lot younger. I know I played the fact that I only looked to be about five or so to my advantage.”

“You were still a pup. When Inuyasha was sealed, he was 150 years old. He was just a teenager.”

“Why is it that Inuyasha ages more like a youkai than other hanyou's? Tate ages faster than Inuyasha did.”

“It is due to the power of our father's blood, Inuyasha probably the most powerful hanyou there is. Speaking of Inuyasha, today is Kagome's 15th birthday. It started 500 years ago today. You will be taking over Kagome's English class next week.”

“Just a few more years to go and the family will be together again.”

“Yes just a few more. Shippo I hear Rin moving, we will see you tomorrow when you arrive in Kyoto.”

“Okay night Sess.”

“Red? What's wrong?”

Shippo looked down at his fur-covered legs and grimaced. He wanted to shift his form into fully human, but his wife was still brushing his tail and now she was stroking the fur on his thigh. It made it impossible to shift his form.

“Sess and Rin got word that Jun is dying.”

“Oh that is terrible. Humans live such a short time if they don't mate with a youkai.” She said as tears welled up in her eyes. She moved to curl herself up in his lap as he settled again the headboard. He wrapped his tail around her.

“Sess wants us to take the kids to Kyoto tomorrow, and he said that I will start teaching Kagome's English class next week. Hmmm that will be a little weird teaching my second mother in school” he chuckled.

“I am looking forward to meeting her again. I only met her that one time, but she was really nice.” She said as she drifted off to sleep.

“Yes she is really nice.” All he could think was `I'll see Mama in a few days' as he drifted off to sleep too.

A/N: Ken is based on a real man from Hiroshima - Kengo Futagawa (59 at the time) was crossing the Kannon Bridge (1,600 meters from the epicenter) by bicycle on his way to do fire prevention work. He jumped into the river, terribly burned. He returned home, but died on August 22, 1945.

If you watch the show 7th Heaven, Tyler Hoechlin who plays Martin Brewer is who I modeled Tate's looks after.

Shippo's form… If you saw the episode, that Shippo does the heart scar there were fox demons in that one. They did not have any human features. They were smaller than Shippo. So I am going to say that fox demons are born looking more like foxes as they age, they look more human like.
