Chapter 7: Caterers
June 2004
He crept through the night, determined to remain unseen. Through the cover of night He crept slowly past the guards, and around to the back of the castle. He stared up at the window that He knew belonged to Her. Almost . . . . He climbed slowly up the wall, like a spider, would cling to a web. Working his way from floor to floor, up to where She lay alseep. Finally seeing her sleeping form on the bed behind the glass, He smiled to himself. Opening the window ever so carefully, He snuck inside (making a mental note of the poor security). To Her bed, slowly, finally, arriving next to Her. He hovered over Her, looking down at her chest, softly rising and falling, without a care in the world. Her eyes started to flutter, as though she felt herself being watched. Slowly, they drifted open, She looked into His eyes, smiling happily, before realizing He wasn't suppose to be there.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" She screamed as loud as she could, hoping to wake Miroku, or Simon, anyone.
"Kagome! Kagome! Shut up! God Kagome!"
"Inuyasha! What are you doing here?! What the fuck do you think you are doing here?!" her voice was hushed, but dominant.
"I came . . . I came to apologize. I am sorry. I didn't mean to . . . I was . . ." he couldn't seem to find the words he needed to make his apology come out right.
"Kagome? Are you okay?" Miroku knocked on her door urgently.
"Hai Miroku, I am fine. I am sorry to have scared you. I had a horrible dream. I'll see you in the morning."
"Are you sure you will be okay?"
"Hai. I'll be fine. Thank you."
"No problem." Miroku's footsteps grew more and more distant.
"Inuyasha, what were you sayi-" Kagome stopped when she realized, he was no longer in the room. Her curtain blew in the night breeze, but he was long gone.
The next morning Kagome woke up hesitantly. Her window was shut and there was no sign that anyone had been in her room the night before. Maybe it was a dream. She reasoned. Sighing slightly she began the task of dressing. They were having an engagement party today, and tomorrow would be the wedding. Kagome looked at her reflection in the mirror. Seeing herself in a new light, a light she didn't like. She did not want to be Queen, especially not walking behind a mangy wolf for the rest of her human life. She shook her head and went downstairs; she had to get used to the fact that she would be Kouga's Queen, and he, her King.
"Miss Kagome, Prince Kouga has arrived."
"Thanks Simon."
"Indeed Miss."
Kagome followed Simon out the door, around the hall, down the grand stairs and outside into the courtyard, where she would wait for Kouga to exit his car and greet her. His Father came out first, shook hands with her Father and then kissed her hand, making her stomach turn. Kouga gave the King a very masculine hug and then kissed Kagome's hand as well.
"Sango, I can't let her do this. It isn't right. I've got to stop her."
"Well . . . I wouldn't do it in front of the King. He did banish you for a reason. And Kouga will sense who you are, then he will tell his Father, and they'll kill you Inuyasha. You have to think about what you are doing."
"Grrr . . . Like I ever do!"
"Well, maybe you should!" Sango couldn't help but yell at his behavoir, he was going to get them both killed, and he still wouldn't win Kagome back. Inuyasha looked very angry, she could sense he was going to yell.
"Fine." Inuyasha seemed taken aback at his own failure to yell. He knew that Sango was right, if he didn't think about this, and make sure that Kagome would forgive him, there was no point in barging into the castle and claiming her. It would do no good.
"Tonight. I ask her tonight."
"Where? How? What do you have planned?"
"Nothing yet. I'll think of something."
"I know you will." Sango seemed to have sarcasm.
"I will think of something!" he glared at her angrily.
"I know you will." She smiled reassuringly at him and they walked away from the picture window.
§¤*~
"Kagome what do you think, eleven, or twelve children? I personally think twelve, can never have an odd number right?" Kouga laughed at his own blabbing while Kagome tried very hard not to strangle her fiance. "Kagome, dear, another iced tea if you would." Kagome stood up and walked to the table that he was sitting behind, and poured him a class of iced tea, and handed it across the table to him.
"Iced tea dear, iced. I see no ice." Kagome held back a growl as she took the glass back and began picking out ice cubes from the ice cube tray, also sitting in front of Kouga. "The big ones, work passed those measily ones, yes there, you've got it."
Kagome walked back over to the couch to sit away from Kouga . . . far away from Kouga. She had wanted to be Queen to get back at Inuyasha and make his life a living hell. But now, she realized, she didn't want to be a Queen no matter what her rewards would be. She especially didn't want to be married to that arrogant baka. Now you're stuck and you can't get out of this whole you've dug for yourself. Her mind teased. Oh shut up! I know I am stuck. There is nothing I can do. They know that I've been with another, and if I even think about forgiving Inuyasha . . . well . . . I can't forgive him. Not ever!
"Is that okay dear? Oh, what am I saying, of course its okay."
"Is what okay?'
"Well, that we have a less conventional honeymoon. They are so overrated anyway. I say, we travel the world. Then, My identity as King of the Eastern and the Western Lands can be spread througout the world!" Kouga looked across the room in triumph. "Of course, my Queen will be noted." he added. He continued talking, but Kagome assumed he was talking to himself and not to her so she ignored him.
"Princess, you should get some rest for the big day tomorrow. Kouga, your bachelor party has arrived."
"Prince Kouga!" he stood up and walked passed Kagome, still sitting on the couch, looking thorougly board, and outside to his waiting car.
"You all right Kag?" Miroku sat down beside her and put his arm around her shoulder.
"Hai. I just really . . . really don't want to do this."
"I asked you if you were sure,"
"I know, I know. Stupid me." Kagome sighed deeply and leaned against Miroku's shoulder. "Do you think he'll ever come back for me?"
"He'd be crazy not to Kag." Miroku kissed the top of her head and she smiled slightly into his welcoming embrace. "Come on, lets get you to bed . . . Princess."
"Oh shut up."
§¤*~
"Okay . . . so I'll just go in there . . . and I'll ask her. I'll just go in there . . . and ask her . . . I'll just go-"
"Inuyasha! Are you ever going to go in there . . . and ask her?" Sango interrupted. He had been pacing outside the castle walls for at least twenty minutes, and Sango wasn't becoming any more patient.
"Yes, I am going . . ." Inuyasha let out a quick breath. "I am going."
"GO!"
"Shh! Jesus Sango." Inuyasha scaled the building, much like he had the night before, and to the Princesses bedroom.
"She is so peaceful." he whispered to himself. Just as he spoke, Kagome stirred in her sleep . . . sensing a presence.
"Who is there?" she asked, still half-asleep. Inuyasha remained quiet . . . not sure what he was going to say if she woke. She soon rolled over on to her right side and went back to sleep. He exhaled the breath he held and crept further into the room. For quite some time he just watched her sleeping; the slow, rise and fall of her chest, her whispered words and deep breathing. It was fascinating to him, and the best thing he could imagine. Before he knew it, the sun was rising through the window, and the palace was stirring to life.
Kagome opened her eyes and looked around her room, the first odd thing she noticed was that her window was open, the second odd thing she noticed was a boy with long silver hair standing beside her bed; his eyes transfixed on her.
"Morning." he said with a nervous chuckle.
"I'll scream." she warned. Though, it was a false warning, she didn't want him to leave. Somewhere, he knew that too.
"I just came to see how you were doing."
"I am fine. Leave."
"No." he answered flatly. "I don't think you really want me to. You would have made me by now. Look, Kagome, I think that I made a mistake. I want to be with you. I want to see where this could have gone, if I hadn't been an asshole. I don't want to see you marry that assinine prick."
"And who should I marry Inuyasha? No one will want me now. At least Kouga is accepting me. He could just as easily turned me away. I am getting married today and you will not ruin it."
"I can't let you get married."
"You can't stop me!"
"Maybe I can't." Inuyasha turned to leave her room. "But I can try." he flashed her a quick smirk and jumped out the window.
"Kagome." Miroku knocked on her door. "It's time to go Princess."
§¤*~
"So what happened? If you had won her back, I have a feeling you'd still be in there." Sango looked at him curiously out of the corner of her eye.
"She claims she wants to marry that baka. We'll see. I'll get her back." Inuyasha seemed far too happy.
"How do you intend to do that?"
"Today is her wedding." he stated.
"So?"
"Not much time . . . better get a move on."
"Oh no Inuyasha. I know that attitude. What do you have planned?"
"I plan to stop the wedding. What else?"
"Oh . . . well that is simple. Okay. Lets go!"
"Great. To the kitchen!"
"Kitchen!?" Sango stopped following Inuyasha. "Nu uh. What are we doing?"
"We are going to dress like caterers. Then, when we see Kagome, we are going to snag her and take her back to the house."
"That is the dumbest plan you have ever come up with."
"Have you got a better one?"
"Well . . . no. . . . but caterers don't even come out till AFTER the wedding."
"Oh. Then we dress like guests and we'll just object."
"You can't object to the marriage of the King and Queen."
"Sure you can." Inuyasha argued.
"No you can't." Sango countered.
"Yes you can!"
"Can not!"
"Can too!"
"Not!"
"Too!"
"Hey, want to keep it dow- Sango. My lovely maiden, what are you doing here?" Miroku came outside to see his 'beloved' and Inuyasha standing beside the castle.
"Crashing a wedding, what's new?" Sango laughed.
"Need some help?" Miroku asked devilishly.
"We would love some."
"Wait, who is this?" Inuyasha interrupted.
"Miroku. The guy I've been seeing on Friday's."
"Oh . . . right . . . him."
"Anyway. I have a plan." Miroku brought the attention back to him. "What we do is, we dress up as Caterers . . . "
"SEE! Told you!"
"Oh heaven! That won't work Miroku."
"No, I guess you are right. Well . . . we'll think of something. For now, just dress up as guests and prepare to object." he smiled and Inuyasha clapped him on the back.
"I like this kid." he said with a smile. The boys began walking into the Palace church.
Sango tilted her head up toward the sky. "It's a curse isn't it?" she shook her head and followed the two males.
Not as long as I had hoped. . . .but there is a chapter. Phew . . I didn't think that was ever going to come out.
