Three Become One:
Part One
Yamainu skidded to a halt a few feet away from the hanyou. Her body lay on the ground, seemingly lifeless. He took another step forward despite Satzuka's warning. As he knelt beside her, Yamainu saw the her body was rising and falling. She was still alive! The wolf youkai lay a hand on her shoulder.
Leiko's hand shot out and grabbed a hold of his wrist. She raised her head to look up at him. The same twisted smile that had covered Satourou's face only seconds before, now pulled at Leiko's lips. She shoved the wolf youkai away from her and sent him toppling into the others. Garou fought against his bounds. His mistress was in danger.
"Yamainu, free us." Kari ordered.
He turned to them and slashed through Keiyo and Kari's ropes. Keiyo moved towards Satzuka and Sasuke. Kari cut Shadow and Garou free. Once all were loose, Garou leapt in front of his mistress. As the wolf looked into her silver eyes, he realized that they seemed hollow.
"What's wrong, Garou?" Leiko asked.
It sounded like her, but it was a somewhat hollow sound. It seemed as if her own voice was far off. Yamainu and Garou stood looking at her. Shadow launched himself at the hanyou as his transformation cloud enveloped him, but Garou jumped in the way. Shadow rolled in the black dirt. When he was on his feet again, Shadow growled at the other wolf.
"You idiot!" Shadow growled. "She's evil!"
"She's not herself." Satzuka said.
Kari turned to the young priestess in question. "What do you mean?" she asked.
"Her body is being controlled by the Soul."
Yamainu shook his head in disbelief. "No, Leiko's too clever for that." he said.
"Anything is possible." Keiyo said.
"You fools." came the hollow voice. "She is now mine."
"Satourou!" Sasuke growled. "Let her go!"
A spine-tingling laugh filled the air. "It's so sad how you won't even attack her even after she's hurt you." Satourou's voice was blending in with Leiko's.
It was a haunting sound. Yamainu moved forward and Sasuke grabbed hold of his shoulder to pull him back. The wolf youkai shoved his friend's hand away, continuing to move forward. His Leiko wouldn't hurt him.
"Leiko..." he said softly.
She stepped away from him. "Don't!" her voice came in a gasp.
"She's fighting with Satourou's Soul." Satzuka said. "We can't engage in physical battle with her."
"Why not?" Shadow demanded.
Garou advanced on the other wolf. His fangs bared in anger. "Touch my mistress and you die." he growled.
"Stop it!" Kari ordered.
Garou continued to snarl at Shadow, but the other wolf pulled back. Satzuka moved to Yamainu's side and handed him a bracelet of prayer beads. The wolf youkai cocked an eyebrow in confusion.
"You'll have to let me take your soul from your body, put it into her body, and then you can help her fight off Satourou." she said.
"You can't go around pulling people's souls out of their bodies!" Sasuke cried.
Kari looked over at the young samurai. "She's right, Sasuke." she said. "No one can take on a Soul alone. Yamainu is the only person that Leiko really trusts."
Yamainu looked at the girl whom he'd come to care so much for. Her face was the same but her eyes...the eyes that captivated him so...were hollow and unfeeling. Yamainu turned away from them and looked down at Satzuka. With a little nod he signalled that he would go.
"Lay down and concentrate." Satzuka said. "The rest of you have to keep Satourou busy. Once Yamainu's soul is in Leiko's body, we'll have to watch his body for him."
Kari, Shadow, and Garou moved to stand in front of the youkai's body. Sasuke unsheathed his katana and took the position behind his body. Yamainu lay still, eyes closed. He could see Leiko the way had been on the night of the new moon. He saw her body, glistening in the firelight as it bounced off of the water dropplets. Yamainu felt his soul begin to leave his body as Satzuka chanted softly.
Soon, his world consisted of nothing. His soul was gone. Now he was nothing more than a shell. Satzuka held the glowing ball in her hands and with a mighty shove, the soul of the wolf youkai joined with Leiko and Satourou.
"Three Souls in one body is not a good thing." Shadow said.
"Yes," Garou agreed. "I only hope that my mistress's body can handle the stress."
"She'll be fine." Sasuke said.
Now they had to wait while the three battled it out in the of the hanyou.
