Chapter 5
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha
Mrs. Higurashi’s (Yes, she had chosen to keep her previous last name when she had gotten married.) face brightened at the sight of her daughter. “Kagome! You don’t know how I’ve missed you!” She ran to embrace her daughter.
“Hey Mom. Missed ya too.” The girl uneasily hugged her mother back. Her mother’s gaze wandered to the boy with silver hair. Confusion filled her features.
“Who is this young man?!” Kagome turned around confused.
“You mean Inuyasha? He’s my friend from the internet I told you about. Turns out we go to the same school!” Her mother smiled.
“I’m so happy you have a new friend! That’s so wonderful dear!…Oh!” She rushed up to Inuyasha. “You’re youkai aren’t you?” She reached up and lightly rubbed his ears.
“Whoa! Mrs. H! Not meaning to be rude…But don’t touch the ears!” He backed away and threw his hands up defensively.
“Oh dear! I’m sorry! But really it is nice to meet you.” She turned to Kagome and Souta. “Now, kids, I want you to be good. I know I can trust you…Right?” Her voice was stern; the kids could do nothing but agree. Another smile appeared on her face. “Good! I’m so glad! You know my cell number if something happens. I’ll be back next week.” Her voice faltered her for a moment. “If…If Naraku comes back… Leave… Inuyasha would you mind them going to your house?” She turned to the boy.
“It would be okay.”
“I’m so glad!” She clapped her hands, much as a small child would. “I love you guys, see ya soon!” With that, she threw kisses to her children and left with her luggage.
Hana heard loud knocking on his front door. “Jisho get the door!” he called out to the girl.
Said girl came stumbling into the room mumbling incoherent curses under her breath. She walked to the front door. She was wearing her pajamas still, as it was only ten. She opened the door and seen that it was Souta and Inuyasha carrying Kagome.
“What happened to her?” she asked confused.
“We were on our way over here and she just passed out. At first we weren’t sure as to why but then we realized that she was bleeding.” Souta said as they brought her in and set her on the couch. Her injury had bled through the bandages and the shirt she had been wearing. Jisho took one look at her shirt and scrunched up her nose.
“I’ll get her a shirt.” Jisho said running upstairs. Souta stared after her. The disgruntled hanyou smacked the boy over the head.
“Oi! Don’t stare at people!” The hanyou crossed his arms over his chest.
“Like you should be one to talk! You stare at everyone!” The boy challenged.
“I glare! Glaring is different!” To emphasize his point, he glared at the younger boy.
“Oh dear god! What happened to Kagome!?” Hana asked just coming into the room. He ran over to where Kagome lay on the couch; he stared at her in shock. “Is she ok?” Hana was worried over his new friend.
Inuyasha shook his head and put his hands up, indicating that Hana shouldn’t question it.
While Jisho was upstairs grabbing a shirt, she got a call on her cell phone.
“Hello?” She answered. “No! I told you I quit!” She whispered angrily, her eyes narrowing at who was on the other line. “F-fine…What is it?” A hint of annoyance was evident in her voice. “No! I can’t! Not Kagome!” She tied to object, but the call ended.
Jisho gasped and hurriedly ran downstairs, grabbing a shirt on the way. ‘Damnit! Of all the people that stupid prick has to pick my new friend’s sister!!’
“What is it Jisho? You look as though you’ve seen a ghost,” Souta asked as she walked to the couch.
“Nothing. I just don’t feel well.” She convincingly lied. She hurriedly changed Kagome’s shirt as the boys had their backs turned.
Later, as Kagome started to stir, Inuyasha ran to her side.
She seemed to be feeling dizzy as she clutched her head. Inuyasha kissed her forehead and asked her how she was feeling. She seemed not to notice that, or the blush that spread across the boys face. She shook her head indicating she wasn’t feeling too well at all.
“Ahem…” A voice interrupted them and they both turned to the person who had cleared their throat. “Kagome…can I talk to you?” Jisho asked nervously.
“Sure Jisho-chan.” Kagome, with difficultly, followed the younger girl to the kitchen. She sat down at the table and Kagome conformingly did the same.
‘Oh god…how am I going to tell this to her without telling her all about me?…I guess it can’t be helped…’ Jisho sighed and looked up at Kagome.
“Kagome…there’s someone who wants you dead.” Kagome laughed.
“There’s someone who’s wanted me dead for years Jisho!” She smiled sadly at Jisho.
“No Kagome.” For a moment, the girl looked shocked. She looked down at the tabletop. “I know from sources…that someone has been hired to kill you…”
“What?” Now Kagome was confused. ‘Naraku’s always wanted to kill me so he could get to my jewel…I don’t think he ever had the nerve…He wouldn’t survive prison…But someone has actually been hired to kill me!?’
A sigh from the girl broke the miko of her thoughts. “Kagome…There’s just something about you…Its so trusting. A strange innocence that makes me believe you are a saint or something.” Said girl, laughed and shook her head.
“Innocent…I suppose you could say that. Saint? Far from it! I’m a miko silly.” Jisho nodded in understanding.
“I knew there was something I wasn’t catching on to! Can I confide in you then?” Kagome could see pain and fear in her eyes and she complied.
“Kagome…I’m the one…that’s been hired…to…kill…you” Jisho pulled all of her strength and force a stoic façade upon her face.
“Jisho…you mean to tell me that you’re an assassin?” Confusion crossed the poor girl’s face.
Jisho nodded dully. Kagome walked around the table and hugged the girl, all dizziness forgotten in her need to help the younger female. The younger girl tensed up at the unexpected reaction and pulled away from her.
“I just told you that I’m supposed to kill you! That‘s how you react?”
Kagome looked stunned. She was about to respond when it hit her. Everything was starting to sink in. Her life after Naraku had arrived had lead up to this moment. Why she was hurt more than Souta. There was always someone out there who was trying to get to her sacred jewel. She tried to help everyone; fore it was in her nature. However, her destiny was to die protecting the jewel. Her ancestors had always had at least one miko alive at one time. Now, it was her turn. Their lives had always ended young and horrific.
She looked at Jisho, and her features went blank. She shook her head rapidly, which was obviously still too much for the amount of blood she had lost and she fainted. Jisho was scared and screamed for the boys in the other room. They ran in to just as her head hit the floor. Inuyasha and Hana lifted her up gently and moved her to her previous spot on the couch.
Ah, I do believe I did well on this chapter.
