The group sat around looking at each other, the enormity of what was about to transpire leaving them speechless.

 

Ryu broke the silence giggling, “The mating ceremony is tonight and here we all sit. There is a lot to do.”

 

Kurama put his hand on her arm soothingly. “Grandmother said she would take care of all the details so we could all just relax.”

 

As if on cue, Grandmother walked in, her arms full. “Good Afternoon.” She said, her smile taking in all of them. “Girls would you come with me please?” Opening the door to Ryu's bedroom, she disappeared behind the door. The girls, looking at each other in confusion, shrugged and followed Grandmother into the room, shutting the door behind them.

 

In the stillness that followed the girl's departure, Kurama looked at Inuyasha, seeing the nervousness in his eyes asked “Are you apprehensive about tonight?”

 

Inuyasha shook his head. “Being apprehensive means you're unsure of the steps you're taking. I'm very sure. I want nothing more than for Kagome to be my mate.” Blushing he added, “It's what goes on after the ceremony that worries me. My father died before I was born, and my mother died while I was still young. I've never been with a woman.”

 

“You either, huh.” Kurama said patting the half demon on the shoulder. “I've never been interested in anyone enough to take them to my bed.”

 

Both Inuyasha and Kurama turned to look at Miroku who was sitting quiet. Catching the look the monk held up his hands. “Don't look at me. For all my talk I too have never been with a woman.”

 

Inuyasha and Kurama looked at each other. Inuyasha just muttered, “Ah, hell.”

Grandmother tossed her arm load of dresses onto the bed. “You three are about the same size, so you need to work out styles and colors.”

 

“What?” Ryu squeaked, watching as Grandmother picked up a dress to study.

 

“It's not everyday a girl takes a mate. You want to look your best.” Grandmother paused to wipe away a tear. “It will be a beautiful memory.”

 

Ryu put her arms around Grandmother saying, “Thank you for all your doing. We appreciate it.”

 

Kagome and Sango echoed the Thank You, with Sango adding, “It's just so overwhelming.”

 

Nodding her head in understanding, Grandmother patted Ryu's cheek She then reached for Kagome's hand, holding out her free hand for Sango to take, she said, “I'm an old woman who desires nothing more than to see my beautiful granddaughter and her two equally beautiful friends have a mating ceremony that will live in your memory for many years to come.”

 

The three hugged the woman and started going through the dresses, giggling as they held up one after the other.

 

Grandmother watched them for a moment, smiling. “Be sure to choose wisely. Remember no showing the boys. They will see soon enough.” Turning away she left the room.

 

In the main room, she noticed the boys talking.

 

Walking further into the room, she said, “Kurama, Grandfather will be back in time to perform the ceremony.”

 

Kurama nodded. “I'm glad. Him doing the ceremony means a lot to Ryu.”

 

Grandmother wiped another tear from her eye. Walking into the middle of the boys, she patted Karama's cheek, just like she had Ryu's. She was very fond of her granddaughter's intended. Then laying her hand on Inuyasha's head, she took Miroku's hand. “Thank you for letting us be a part of your special day.”

 

Inuyasha was stunned. Was there no end to the kindness of these people? He stood and embraced the woman. Noticing Miroku waiting he let her go, seeing Miroku hug her.

 

Wiping yet another tear, Grandmother looked at each boy. “When Grandfather gets here you boys will all come to bathe and get ready at my home. The girls will stay here. Make sure you have all your things. You'll not be coming back here until the ceremony.”

 

Leaving the room she said over her shoulder, “Enjoy the time you have with them before we come to escort you away.”

 

With that the woman left.

 

Catching sight of the expression on Inuyasha's face, the wide eyes, all Kurama could do was chuckle. “She's something isn't she?”

 

Miroku, changing the subject said, “I wonder what the girls are doing?”

 

Listening closely they could hear the faint sounds of giggling coming from behind the closed door.

The girls, having already chosen their dresses were sitting on the bed enjoying some girl talk.

 

“Are you nervous about tonight Sango?” Kagome asked

 

Songo snorted, “No. The monk already confessed to me that he has never been with a woman before.”

 

Kagome said startled, “What about all the women he has propositioned?”

 

Ryu, having already heard about Miroku's lecherous ways, fell back on the bed laughing. “You mean, if one of those women would have said yes he would have run away as fast as he could.”

 

Sobering she set up and said, “I'm so glad we are doing this together. It's nice to be able to share the fun and the nerves with someone.”

 

They shared a smile, and Kagome said, “We had better go join the boys.”

In the main room, the boys were talking quietly about future plans, when the bedroom door opened and the girls walked out. Noticing their pink cheeks and twinkling eyes Inuyasha said, “It looks like they were sharing a joke at the expense of one of us.”

 

Kurama nodded then said, “Probably at the expense of us all”

 

Kagome walked up to Inuyasha, placing a gentle kiss on his lips she settled down between his knees, watching as Kurama pulled Ryu against him. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Miroku stroke Sango's cheek and settle her on his lap.

 

Turning towards Inuyasha she put her arms around his neck, snuggling into his neck. “I'm so happy that we have them to share this day with.”

 

Inuyasha pulled her closer saying in a husky whisper, “Gods I love you Kagome.”

 

Each couple sat quietly enjoying each other and the peace of being surrounded by friends.

 

“Brat!” a booming voice broke the stillness.

 

Startled all eyes turned to the direction of the voice, seeing a tall, barrel chested man with auburn hair standing in the doorway.

 

Ryu let out a gasp, shooting to her feet she launched herself at the man yelling, “Grandfather.”

 

Laughing, the man grabbed her around the waist, her arms around his neck. “I've missed you Brat.”

 

Setting her back down, keeping his arm around her shoulders, he turned to greet everyone else.

 

“Kurama, it's nice to see you again.” Like Grandmother, he was fond of his granddaughters intended.

 

Ryu said, “Grandfather, I would like to introduce Inuyasha and his mate to be Kagome, and this is Miroku and his intended Sango.”

 

Grandfather smiled at each then turning to Miroku he said, “I am honored to perform the ceremony for you but it's only binding under demon law, human law does not recognize the ceremony.”

 

Miroku nodded saying, “We understand sir, and we plan to have a human ceremony later.”

 

Grandfather smiled at the monk, “Good.” Turning to Ryu and Karama, “What about you two?”

 

Kurama said “We too plan a human ceremony later.”

 

Ryu added, “We will have it at the shrine with Mom and Dad.” Seeing Kagome's stricken look, she finished with “Kagome and Inuyasha will join us so her family can be there too.”

 

Kagome smiled gratefully at Ryu then to Inuyasha whispered, “She thinks of everything.”

 

Grandfather paused hearing Grandmother enter the room. He said “Please bear with us; we would like to tell you a short story that will probably answer your questions about this house.”

 

Grandmother joined him carrying a painting, its face turned away from the group.

 

She started her tale. “This house was built for one of my closest friends, and her child. They would stay here when she visited. On her last visit we had this painting done.”

 

Hesitating for a minute, she slowly turned the painting toward the group.

 

Inuyasha paled and gasped, causing his friends to look at him worriedly. Kagome held his hand tightly as he stammered, “T..That's me and my mother!”
