Chapter 3: Months of thought. . .

The sun rose over a beautiful tropical beach. Sango woke up and noticed she was not in her hotel. She thought back to the night before, leaving with Miroku, going to his - well Inuyasha's - apartment, sleeping with him. As she thought about what she had done, she realized she has made a big mistake. Quickly she ran to the bathroom, she began to cry uncontrollably eventually began to dry heave because she couldn't breathe. Sango left the bathroom quietly, grabbed her things and left the apartment.

Somehow, not knowing any Spanish, she found her way pack to the Oasis Playa. When she got to her hotel room she realized she didn't have a key. She prayed Kagome was awake, and there.

"Kagome! Kagome! It's Sango! Please open the friggin' door!" she stopped yelling as Kagome opened the door and walked away quickly. Sango came in, and mumbled a thank you.

"I think we should go home today." Kagome said suddenly from the bathroom.

"I think we should too." Sango called back from the other room, "but, why do you think we should go back?" Kagome could be heard sobbing from the bathroom. Sango walked slowly in to the bathroom and put her arm around her best friend.

"I know how you feel." The went back out in to the bedroom and began to sob together. For an hour, comforting each other, and sobbing for themselves.

"It will be our little secret." Sango said after about an hour.

"Yeah," Kagome stopped to sniffle, "well, at least we succeeded in forgetting about life." she began to sob again and Sango put her arm around her friend and wept.

As they boarded the plane they didn't speak, the seats seemed to be wider then before, and less stuffy. Everything was so big, they were lost in how big everything suddenly seemed. They didn't speak the whole flight home, nor did they speak on the bus back to their hometown. They didn't speak for three months after there trip to Cancun, neither one could force themselves to relive the pain.

"Hey, is something wrong?" Brandon asked Sango with a deep look of concern in his eye.

"Oh, no. I am fine. Why?" Sango tilted her head to the side gently and smiled.

"You haven't talked to Kag in like three months, I've never seen you two apart." he seemed to brush this comment off.

"Oh, I guess we just spent to much time together in Cancun." Sango smiled again.

"Whatever Sang." he said casually and began to walk away.

"What did you just call me!?" she stood up from the stool she was sitting on and looked angry.

"What, I just said Sang. Sorry I didn't know you hated it so much, I wont call you it again." Brandon looked really confused and hurt.

"Sorry, I didn't mean anything by it. I didn't mean to get mad." Sango smiled and hugged Brandon.

"It's ok babe, you need to quit working so much. These like eighty hour weeks are killing you." he walked up the stairs and out of site. Sango sat down and sighed heavily. She couldn't stand keeping this secret. What Sango really needed, was her best friend; but, they hadn't talked since their last night in Cancun, what would she say?

"God, she is my best friend. I'll just call her." Sango reached for the phone when she jumped back about two feet because it rang.

She cleared her throat, "Hello," she answered sweetly.

"Err, hi. It's Kagome. I am sorry. We need each other. I don't know why, but I just couldn't bring myself to talk to you. I think you felt the same way." Kagome sighed deeply as though she had been crying and couldn't breathe.

"I know, I was just about to call you. I miss you, and I am so stressed and pissed off at myself, and at everything, and nothing. I really need you to talk too, and I know you share my feelings. We need each other, now more then ever." Sango began to smile, her best friend was on the phone with her, maybe life wouldn't be so horrible after all.

"Let's get together tomorrow. We can talk, and figure out something."

"Deal. How is Akisha Cafe, at like noon." Sango didn't hesitate to name a place and time; however, she had been planning on calling Kagome for weeks.

"Sounds perfect. See ya tomorrow." Sango put the phone back on the receiver and sat back down at the kitchen bar stool.

"Who was that Sango?" Brandon walked in reading, what appeared to be stock quotes.

"That was Kagome. We are getting together tomorrow for coffee." Sango smiled as though Kagome and her hadn't been separated for three months.

"Oh, I was expecting a call from M.T, oh well." Brandon began to walk off

"Wait. Who is M.T? I've never head you speak of him." Sango looked at Brandon curiously.

"Oh, he is just one of my friends that I met when I went on that business trip." He walked off and again disappeared upstairs. He then called down "Oh by the way, can I go with you guys tomorrow. To coffee I mean. Kouga can come and then we can all chill together, like old times."

"Uh, sure." Sango said, not wanting to admit she needed alone time with Kagome.

"Hi Kouga is Kagome there?" Kouga had answered the phone and went to get Kagome.

"Hey Sango what's up?" Kagome was confused, they had just talked not even twenty minutes before.

"Brandon is coming, and he wants you to bring Kouga. I didn't know how to say no. I don't want him to be concerned." Sango spoke softly and waited for a reply.

"Kouga, you wanna go tomorrow? Kouga said that would be great. See you tomorrow." Kagome hung up before Sango could say anything. Sango knew that she probably didn't want to make a big deal out of it with the boys in close proximity. She too hung up the phone and took a long walk.

"Hey Kagome!" Sango ran up to Kagome and hugged her close. Kouga and Brandon walked up to each other and did a masculine hug, handshake that men do. The four of them began to reminisce about how they always used to go out like this together. It seemed as though time had slipped away from them somehow, as though years of there life were skipped. They wished they could just stop time and go back, to when life didn't matter; before adulthood got in the way of having your best friends by your side, no matter what the cost.

The boys saw a CD store and decided to go in. The girls walked to the pier.

"Kagome. I have to tell him. The guilt is killing me Kag." Sango began to cry into her friends shoulder.

"Kagome we have to be strong. It's over, it was a mistake, it is in the past. There is nothing we can do about it. We both got tested, we are both fine, as far as they know, we just had a really killer time. They don't have to know Sango. Be strong with me, I need you." Kagome began to cry softly, holding back the all to familiar tears.

"I am not as strong as you Kagome. I can't do this." Sango stopped crying, but still didn't have strength to sit up on her own.

"Yes, we can, we can because there are two of us. With two of us, supporting each other, and knowing that even if Brandon and Kouga leave us, we will always have each other. We need each other, that is the only way this will go away." Kagome seemed as though she had thought this out.

"It won't just go away Kag. It will always be in our memory, haunting us, waiting for us to crack and succumb it its torturous truth!" Sango was sitting up and yelling at Kagome. "Oh, god Kag. I am sorry. You're right, we need each other." she sat back down and continued to breath heavily.

"Hey Sang, at least we had fun." Sango began to smile for the first time in three months, she really smiled.

"Yeah, I wouldn't trade those memories for the world." They sat back on the pier, staring at the wide ocean, together they would get through this, they had to, otherwise they would go crazy.

It had been almost sixth months since that day on the pier, and the two of them were holding on. They finally thought they were going to be okay. It seemed, that together they had discovered the secret to living a lie.

"Kagome! Have you seen my other tie? I can't find it and I have a meeting with the broker tonight. Jesus Christ, why does this always happen? Shit!" Kouga was storming around the rather small apartment and cursing at just about anything that got in his way.

"I found it, it was underneath the bed sheets, I don't know how it got there, I think it was," but Kagome never did get to finish her explanation.

"I don't care where it was, or why it was there. I just need it. Thank you. Ok, how do I look?" however, before Kagome could answer, "Great, ok bye." Kouga was out the door. Kagome sighed and sat down on the sofa.

"I love you Kagome." Kouga peaked his head in and smiled, then closed the door and left again. She smiled and began to clean the apartment. She was singing out loud to some dorky pop song on Q 97.9, the phone rang and she stopped vacuuming to answer it.

"Hello," she said in a happy tone, waiting for a response from the other end.

"Hi Kagome. I was wondering if I could borrow your Purple top, the one you wore in Cancun, when we met," there was a pause from Sango on the other line, "when we first got to Cancun."

"Oh, that one. Sorry, I kind of gave it away to charity. I couldn't stand to wear it any more."

"Dang, it would have went perfectly with my purple skirt. Oh well, thanks a bunch Kag. Talk to you later." Sango smiled, even though Kagome couldn't see her and hung up the phone. Kagome ignored the random call and went back to cleaning, when the phone rang again.

"Sango, I already told you, I gave away almost all my clothes-"

"This is not Sango." A voice interrupted. "Is this Kagome?" A man was on the other end, with a soft kind voice, and an accent that was one of the most gorgeous Kagome had ever heard.

"Um, yes. May I ask who is calling?" she was nervous to ask who was calling, she almost knew, but didn't want to believe.

"This is Inuyasha Tenkai. You never let me say goodbye." Kagome swallowed hard and began to breathe rapidly.

"I, have to go." Kagome hung up the phone and waited a few seconds before picking it up again. She heard a dial tone and called Sango.

"Sango! It's Inuyasha." Kagome was nervous and breathing even heavier then before.

"Kagome? Why are you changing your name to Inuyasha?" Sango was very confused by her friends randomness.

"No, Inuyasha called my house. He is stalking me or something. I don't know what to do."

"Really? Oh my god, what if he tells Brandon and Kouga? What if things go horribly wrong for us." Sango seemed to have caught Kagome's nerves, she too began to ramble and jump to conclusions.

"Lets get together and maybe we can find him and get him to leave or something." Kagome had finally gotten her head together. The girls decided to go meet each other down town and discuss further strategy plans.
