Part 5
He was dreaming…
His face was drenched with a cool sheet of sweat, his hair sticking to his forehead and sides of his face as small droplets trailed down his temples to the white, cotton pillow his head rested upon.
Kagome was unsure about what to do. She had heard his cries from her spot on the couch and had rushed over to his side with out a second thought. Wanting nothing more then to comfort him anyway possible, but how could she?
He had a fever of 105° and it was still rising. She had placed bags of ice around his body under the covers as well as placed an icy cold, wet cloth on his brow in attempts to cool him down, but with no aid.
Kagome brushed some strains of hair from his face, the pads of her fingers just barely gracing the skin of his cheeks. He seemed to sense her nearness, his head moving into the touch of her hand.
She was worried about him… She couldn't deny it. It was something physical and yet spiritual that had drawn her to him.
"Please wake up…" she whispered softly to him. "Please…"
Inu Yasha's body flinched violently, a painful groan escaping from his lips. His breathing suddenly increasing in tempo - causing his chest rise and fall in an unsteady panting rhythm.
Kagome ran her fingers through his soaked bangs, her eyes softening as he leaned into her touch once again. He seemed to calm down some from her cares, so she left her hand on his cheek for comfort.
'What is it that haunts you so?'

It was dark… and hot. The faded colors of yellow and orange just barely visible in the distant horizon. But why was it so hot and why couldn't see smell or hear anything?
A bad feeling pegged at Inu Yasha's heart, making him frown and wince. Something was definitely wrong, but what could it be?
Unsure of what he was feeling, Inu Yasha slowly began to make his way back towards the morning rays of the new day. But he still couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that twisted deep in his gut.
Then it dawned on him.
Inu Yasha stopped walking and looked around, his eyes scanning the open area that surrounded him.
Where was everybody? By now he would have been tackled by an annoying little ball of orange fuzz and screaming his head off at the runt… but he wasn't.
What the hell was going on?
Suddenly everything began to blur and shift out of focus.
Inu Yasha closed his eyes to prevent a wave of dizziness from consuming him, slowly counting backwards from ten before reopening his eyes. Instead of seeing concrete of the sidewalk under his feet, hardwood flooring of his shrine home met his gaze.
He relaxed a little at the sight of familiar surroundings, but the feeling was still there… and it seemed to have twisted tighter. Almost like his body was trying to worn him… but worn him of what?
He took a small step forward, breathing in a little sigh or relief when nothing seemed to happen. What was wrong with him? This was his home! Why did he feel so anxious and why was he feeling so paranoid in his own home?
His ears twitched at the faint sound of glass shattering on the floor, a second later and he was running… running as fast as he could towards to sound. Inu Yasha was not entirely sure why panic and fear seemed to seep into every fibre of his being at the simple sound of glass breaking, but he knew it something to do with the uneasy feeling in his gut.
He just knew it.
The feeling in Inu Yasha's heart grew as he drew closer and closer to the end of the hall, twisting and shifting in his stomach until it had him almost crying out in terror.
'Oh god no… Sesshomaru…'
Inu Yasha didn't bother to open the sliding door, using his body weight to break through the opposing wood that stood in his way.
The scent of blood and burning flesh hit his nose head on, making his eyes sting and water. He could faintly make out at least 8 bodies on the floor, any evidence of more being burned by the conflicting flames that continued to consume the room. Even the bodies that he could make out were too far gone by any kind of identification.
"Sesshomaru, Rin!" Inu Yasha yelled, coughing forcefully as dark smoke filled his lungs.
He reached up to rub his chest to ease away the burning sensation, only to have his claws and fingers coming back covered in dark, thick blood.
His blood…
Inu Yasha collapsed to his knees, noticing for the first time the large puddle of blood underneath his feet. He began to shake and tremble from the amount of fear and pain that filled him.
Why? Why did this happen? They were so careful, there was no way that the angels could have found them.
So why, how…… who?
'Naraku…' his mind whispered to him. The other demon's scent abruptly filling his nose.
Yes… Naraku… he was the one to blame for this! Inu Yasha could tell by the remaining shapes and sizes of the dead bodies that none where those under Naraku's command… but of his own and his brothers'…
Inu Yasha clenched his hands tightly in to fists, fresh wounds appearing on his palms from his claws. He would avenge his friends… his family! He would kill Naraku and all those who were loyal to him…
They would all pay!
"Naraku!"

Kagome padded the wet cloth over his face again. It pained her that something so horrible could happen to someone. Demon or not, he didn't deserve this… not by the hands of his own people.
'What happened to you?' she mentally asked him, tracing the bandage across his chest. Her imagination picturing a pink scar that would be placed where his wound once was. 'Who could have done such a terrible thing…'
Kagome sighed and looked up to study his face more closely. He was not just handsome but gorgeous, despite the nasty black and blue bruise that covered almost the whole left side of his face. She knew it was wrong of her to think such a thing. Especially when he was a demon; her enemy… her most hated foe.
But she couldn't help it. It was that strange feeling that plagued her, it felt like something almost… surreal. It felt emotional, yet physical at the same time. Not to mention the feeling of being whole and completed while near him. Was such a thing possible with a demon?
Kagome absently traced his lips with the tip of the finger. "Who are you?"
His body jerked in response, startling her and causing her to jump back a few inches. Her breath stopped as her eyes met that with that of gold for a split second before disappearing in a blur of red and white.
Pain…
That was the first thing that registered in her mind before her eyes refocused. She could see red in front of her face and could feel something wet drip down her throat as something sharp dug deeper into her skin, successfully cutting off her oxygen supply at the same time.
Her struggled gasp for air seemed to snap him out of him trance, his eyelids blinking a few times until his eyes faded back from red to the rich amber. He loosened his grip just enough to allow her to take in a small breath but kept his hand wrapped around her throat.
Kagome was relieved that his grip let up, her lungs screaming in thanks for the much needed air. She was a little scared but decided to remain clam. After all, if he wanted to kill her he would have already done so, not loosen his grip to allow her to breath.
Inu Yasha stared into her ocean blue eyes, trying to place where it was that he recognized her from. But his brain refused to acknowledge the wanted information.
"Where am I?" he demanded, squeezing his hand on her throat for some affect.
Kagome swallowed nervously, wincing a little at the tiny stab of pain it cause her. "You're at the Shikon Temple. You were wounded… so… so I brought you here…"
He nodded his head in understanding and released his hold on her. "Why?"
Kagome ignored the question, reaching up to rub her sore neck. "Does it matter?"
Inu Yasha fought back the growl at the back of his throat. He would give her the benefit of a dept - for now. She did save his life, so he owed her one and unfortunately that one was his life and protection.
"I owe you my life…" he said quietly, looking away from her so he didn't have to see her reaction. "I am now honoured bound to you."
Kagome blinked in confusion. "And exactly what is that suppose to mean?"
"It means I'm bound to you until I repay my dept to you!" he snapped. "A life for a life. You'll have to excuse me if I don't jump for joy."
Kagome narrowed her eyes at him. "That makes two of us."
Inu Yasha looked at her then, really looked. He could tell she was the type that didn't lean on anyone for help. Even sitting down he could tell how well built she was. In a battle she would have no trouble watching out for herself… which meant he was more then likely stuck being bound to her for the rest of his life.
"You had a hole that went right through your chest here," she pointed to the heavy bandage across his chest, the tip of her finger pointing to the spot just to the right of his heart. "Several stitches had to be place here, here, here, here and finally, here."
He followed the direction of her finger as she spoke; his eyes moving from looking up at his ear to his right shoulder, under his left arm, his right side, his left hip, and the side of left thigh.
"Your wrist needed bandaged because it was fractured in three separate places, how it happened, I don't want to know."
Inu Yasha kept watching her as she stood up to take her leave. He could tell that she was a little nervous, which was another thing. He never really had much luck with women before, that talent seemed to have gone to his brother as the stubbornness and aggression seemed to have been passed to him.
"Bathroom is the last door on the left with a lint closet just inside the door with clean towels and sheets. And please try to remember that it's on the LEFT and not the right. I really don't think the others would be too pleased with you walking in on them." Kagome tried to hide a smile at the look on his face but failed miserably. "The door just outside in the hallway leads into the study, the kitchen is just off to the left at the end of the hallway and the living room as well as the dining room his off to the right. There's a door that leads off into the library in case you get bored, there's also a patio door next to the library if you want to go outside. The stairway in the kitchen leads to the basement, which we use as a mediation area and where we work out. There's also a large cellar down there and a freezer, both filled with food in case you run out of something up here. And please… please, make use of the workout room if you get angry or frustrated with anything. I would hate to have to walk in here and find my room torn to shreds."
Inu Yasha blinked at that. He was staying in her room? Sleeping in her bed? He groaned slightly at the sudden idea of sleeping in the same bed with her. 'Damn it! What hell's wrong with me? Stupid hormones!'
"I'll be in the living room if you need anything. If I am not available, just call for either Sango or Miroku."
She left him then, leaving him sitting there staring dumbfound after her. And painfully erected.
'She gave me her room and her bed… and damn it, this room is filled with her scent! What the hell was she thinking?' Inu Yasha thought as he felt his body temperature rise. 'Feh - Stupid wench! Now how the hell am I going to get any sleep?'
