Love is a Battlefield
A Sesshoumaru tale.
Chapter Two
…Sorrow…
~“Sesshoumaru, you know better than to run off like that!” he snapped, his fear abating.
Looking up at his brother Sesshoumaru sniffed, a small smile tipping his lips up, “Dad always said that, every time, I ran off to go play by the river.” A small sob excepted before he buried his face against his knees trying to hide his weakness.
Walking over InuYasha sat down beside him and sighed, “Yeah, he must have.”~
“InuYasha?” Sesshoumaru said hesitantly the next morning as they walked side by side.
“Yeah?” he replied looking down at his brother, it felt odd looking down at him rather than up.
“Did I really try to kill you like Kagome said?” the boy asked refusing to meet his brothers golden gaze.
Sighing heavily InuYasha said, “Yeah, every time we met you'd try to kill me.”
“Why?” Sesshoumaru asked.
“I don't know, you always said I was a stain in the family tree and that it was your right to remove fathers mistake, I also think you blamed me and my mother for our dads death, because he did die protecting us,” InuYasha explained.
“Puff, that's a stupid reason, if dad died protecting you then you must have deserved to be because dad's not stupid,” Sesshoumaru said.
“Well you did it,” InuYasha said slightly amused at his older brother's insight.
“Well then I apologise for my own idiocy,” Sesshoumaru said his voice slightly deeper. Looking down InuYasha was slight shocked to find that in the last few seconds his brother had grown around two inches.
“Sesshoumaru?” he asked.
“Yeah?”
“How old are you?”
“24”
Stumbling InuYasha paused, in seconds his brother had aged 12 years.
Rubbing his temples Sesshoumaru winced at the sudden headache he had. “Hay Yash?” he asked.
“Yeah?”
“Can we stop for a moment my head hurts?” he asked wincing slightly.
“Sure,” InuYasha agreed worried.
As soon as they sat down Sesshoumaru cuddled against him, burying his marked face against InuYasha's chest. Stroking the now inches longer silver tresses, something his own mother used to do when he was hurt or upset InuYasha leaned back against the tree behind him.
Memories, years of memories flickered through Sesshoumaru's mind, the pain of the influx of information causing him to whimper and push closer to his brother, who made a soothing noise and continued to run his clawed hand through his hair.
“You're a disgrace on the family name!” he snapped at a younger looking InuYasha.
“Filthy hanyou,” he sneered.
“When you're old enough to fight I'll kill you,” he told the child inu-hanyou.
“Die InuYasha!”
His clawed hand dripping with poison plunging into InuYasha's tender stomach.
His right arm being cut off by his younger brother.
The miko, Kagome shotting purified arrows at him as he and InuYasha fought.
Whimpering he tipped his head back submissively, looking into his brothers beautiful golden eyes as he whispered “I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.”
Even as InuYasha stared down at him with surprise more memories filtered behind his eyes, his mother telling him he was useless, pathetic and weak, ruled by his emotions just like his father.
Of his father hiding his new, pregnant mate from him and treating him like a threat to his unborn brother.
Of his father yelling at him. His mother screeching her demands that he grow up, hide his emotions, be something he thought he'd be…cold.
“It's all right Sesshoumaru,” InuYasha whispered watching the tears well up in those expressive golden eyes.
“No it's not,” his brother whispered back, “Mom's right I am pathetic. I've done to you what was done to me. I had no right.”

Staring in Kanna's mirror, Naraku frowned as he watched the interplay between the brothers; his spell had worked though it was wearing off a lot faster than expected, though Sesshoumaru's innocence was something of a shock. Who would have thought that the powerful icy demon lord would be an emotional, weak child? Other than that and InuYasha's obvious attachment to his older sibling his plan was going along smoothly. What was worrisome was that if the brothers decided to join forces it could be very difficult to finish off his plan to absorb the little prince. “Kagura, I want you to separate the brothers…and bring me Sesshoumaru.”
