~What was worrisome was that if the brothers decided to join forces it could be very difficult to finish off his plan to absorb the little prince. “Kagura, I won't you to separate the brothers…and bring me Sesshoumaru.”~

InuYasha couldn't help the laughter that broke from his throat three days later, they'd been living on fish and Sesshoumaru had gotten sick of it and now, under InuYasha's amused gaze the boy/man who still only looked 14 was laying, covered in dust as he stared irritably at the trees before him. He'd been trying to catch an elk only to scare the heard away, and be trampled by three larger males and get plastered with dust. The sight of his normally regal brother looking so rumpled and irate and over a bunch of elk.
“Shut up,” he snapped tossing his head in a way that was both oddly feminie and strangely Sesshoumaru.
He'd noticed over the last few days that Sesshoumaru had some very amusing eccentricities like his utter hatred of being dirty, the man bathed twice a day and if he had to miss one then he was irritable and snapped at everyone. Or the fact that he hatted being woken up and if he was before at least mid morning he could through a fit deadly to any and all trees in the area.
And never once had he hurt InuYasha on purpose.
“Oh, come on Ru, you should see your face!” he laughed as the wind lifted and carried the scents of his pack and Koga. Looking up at his brother almost nervously Sesshoumaru stood and did something InuYasha was sure he'd never see, he shook himself from head to toe, removing all the dust from his face and clothing and a few twigs in his long silken hair. Hair that at night InuYasha stroked his hand though as his brother slept; content at his side.
“Yash, are they going to yell at me again?” he asked uncertainly.
“No, we're not,” Miroku said as he stepped out of the forest and moved toward the boy, “Sesshoumaru, my lord, we never wanted you to leave our group,” the monk said.
“But that girl,” Sesshoumaru murmured his golden gaze on the dark haired man in front of him “Kagome, she doesn't want me anywhere near your group and her…fear of me is well grounded.”
As he spoke the miko in question came out of the trees, Shippo and Koga at her side as Sango and Kilala came in at the rear of the group.
Seeing her he looked down and shifted his nose slightly, something that InuYasha had learnt his brother did when he was uncomfortable and/or sad.
“Hay guys,” InuYasha said forcing a smile as Shippo bounded up to him his face covered in joy. Four days away from his `father' had been hard on the kit.
“InuYasha!” the kit cried throwing his little arms around the hanyous neck. Watching the two interact Sesshoumaru remembered how his father and he had been, when he'd been the kits age.
InuYasha had told him he was actually around 700 and the returning memories and fragments made him agree with this.
He also remembered how that relation ship had changed, because of the split up between his mother and father, Sesshoumaru had lived with his father for his first fifty years them his mother the next with drift visits with the other parent over the years. And after 10 years his father had stopped coming and then upon his return to the Western Palace his father had expected more of him, wanted him to be different than he by then was and he had been cold about it all.
“Sesshoumaru?!” the wolf demon asked as a voice inside Sesshoumarus head whispered “Koga, wolf prince.”
And the danger he represented to Sesshoumaru in his younger form was huge, inching his way to his brother he said “Koga,” his voice only slightly breathless.
Watching his brother and the wolf prince InuYasha noticed the slight, nervus frown the boy was trying to hide. And the way he was slowly making his way to his side. Deciding to help the boy he walked over and dropped a casual hand on his brother shoulder saying “Later we can play tag, with the wolf as the victim.” And his brother glanced at him that nervus frown disappearing into the blankness he'd pulled up ever since Kagome had arrived.
His shield-his façade; the cold, calculating lord.
“Puff, as if you two puppies could catch me!” Koga boosted watching as Sesshoumaru moved closer to his brother. They were already so close, the weaker relying on the stronger as it was meant to be and InuYasha was already reading his brother like a book. Though no one else had noticed Sesshoumaru's nervousness InuYasha had reacted and was using touch to reassure the boy he was safe and InuYasha was there. It was sweet and cute and nice to see.
The shock of seeing a little Sesshoumaru gone Koga grinned as the boy turn shrewd but oddly innocent eyes to him and teased the hanyou to try and help the younger demon comfort the younger older one. “You're both too slow mutt, even as pure as your brother is he can't catch this wolf,” and to his shock Sesshoumaru snapped “InuYasha isn't a mutt, you flea ridden mongrel!” not even rising to the bait that he was slower.
Shocked human faces turned to see the smaller, younger boy glaring daggers at the wolf prince, who was still talking “And if I, even with my own idiocy, can see that then you had better catch up,” before his stomach growled, low and angry.
The pink flush that covered the boys face made Sango melt, Kagome was still stuck on the Sesshoumaru-defending-InuYasha bit as InuYasha shook his head and Shippo giggled. “I'll go catch lunch, Ru, you'll be safe here, okay,” InuYasha said before grabbing Shippo and purposefully put him in a shocked Sesshoumaru's arms. Catching the wolfs eyes he looked at him brother then back and the prince nodded he'd take care of the younger lord.
A few hours later; Kagome could help but be shock and surprised at InuYasha, Miroku, Shippo and Koga's behaviour around the younger version of Sesshoumaru, who she had to admit was adorable in this form. He blushed, his eyes showed uncertain understanding, and every so often he'd smile, a small smile then later a broad grin, flashing those dimples all over again.
Sango laughed as she watched Shippo show Sesshoumaru how to open and then eat a lollypop his eyes going huge at the taste of them little treat. She could get used have the boy around he was so much like her brother and yet not, he held this air to him that he was waiting to be yelled at or told to do what ever he was doing a different way. And those expressive yet hidden eyes would flicker over to look at Kagome every now and then as she watched the five male interact with each other. His eyes also flickered to InuYasha when he became unsure of something or nervus under Kagomes weighted gaze.
“Sesshoumaru what do you think?” Shippo asked the younger lord who though still scary was actually really nice.
“It's strange, it tastes nice but I've never seen anything like it,” he said with a small smile. Grinning Shippo said “That's coz it's from the future! Kagome brings them!” “Oh, okay,” Sesshoumaru said glancing at the girl; he could but help but be wary of her and her heavy, probing gaze. Getting an idea of how to get away from her and those brown eyes that reminded him of something but he couldn't place it, he turned to InuYasha and asked “Can we chace the wolf now?” which got a startled laugh from his brother who he now respected, cared for and never wanted to part from.
“Sure,” InuYasha said as Koga got up and shot off into the forest, Sesshoumaru little more than a white blur as he gave chace. Going after the two InuYasha left the rest of the group in the clearing to gaze after them in surprise. “I never thought I'd get to see Sesshoumaru play!” Shippo said looking up at Miroku “I thought InuYasha was just joking!” Laughing the monk lifted the little demon and said “I think he was, but Sesshoumaru is young and has heaps of energy so he probably needed to get a little exercise.”
Sango looked up and spoke with out thought “He's so adorable, do you the blushes!” then a sad thought moved through her and once again she spoke “I wonder what changed him into the cold lord he is or was.” Meting her brown gaze Miroku said with the same frankness, “When Shippo and InuYasha were hugging earlier, he had this soft look in his eyes as if he were remembering a happy memory then it broke into a sad bitterness that I believe had nothing to do with his fathers' death.”
“What do you mean?” she asked both of them ignoring or oblivious of Kagome's brown gaze and Shippo's curious turquoise eyes as the monk answered “I think that his love of his father turned to a bitter thing as he got older; that he and his father grew apart- he stoped when the demon on topic stepped out of the trees. “You think correctly and I would ask that you don't discuss me behind my back I get enough of that in court, I don't need it from my brothers friends,” he said a brittle light in his eyes as he stared at them, his lips pressed tight together as if to stop one of them from quivering.
“Why would they do that Sess?” Shippo asked jumping from Miroku's arms to go stand in front of the older, beautiful demon. “Because I was so young to a have a throne, because I am the last pure dog demon, because they can, because I'm powerful or I was, out of jealousy and spit they make rumours. They conspire against me and tell those who have no business knowing things about me, privet or not,” Sesshoumaru said meeting those innocent eyes as he spoke. “Be grateful you're not of royal blood, it's not all it's cracked up to be,” he said before fading back into the forest.
