~“Because I was so young to a have a throne, because I am the last pure dog demon, because they can, because I'm powerful or I was, out of jealousy and spit they make rumours. They conspire against me and tell those who have no business knowing things about me, privet or not,” Sesshoumaru said meeting those innocent eyes as he spoke. “Be grateful you're not of royal blood, it's not all it's cracked up to be,” he said before fading back into the forest ~
Walking into the clearing InuYasha scanned the group looking for his brother, Koga behind him, the boy had stopped in the middle of the chase, going another way and InuYasha had thought he was going to try and cut the wolf off only to realise after about half and hour that Sesshoumaru wasn't with them and his scent wasn't near Koga. Tracking it back to the group InuYasha and Koga were both baffled by the groups' sombre and thoughtful air. “What's up?” he asked worried and it was Shippo who rushed up with tears.
“I'm sorry! I didn't mean to upset him!” the kit cried as InuYasha instinctively held the boy to his chest.
“What happened?” he asked looking to his best friend, Miroku wouldn't met his gaze and kept chewing his bottom lip, “What happened?” he asked starting to freak his voice going hard yet somehow wobbly.
Sango stood and looked at him with thoughtful brown eyes “Sesshoumaru has asked we not speak of him behind his back, until he returns we can't speak of this matter.” And he turned hopeful eyes to Kagome even though his ears were pressed close to his head in worry. She looked at him and shook her head “He did ask, I've spoken out of turn already and it hurt you so I'm not going to,” she said and he would have rolled his eyes if weren't worried about getting sat into the next week.
Gods, yeah that was a way to get on to his good side, but he'd cut her some slack, she was trying so he'd leave her to her infatuation. He loved, true but only as a friend, a sister, a pack mate, not as a “girlfriend” and he certainly didn't think of her as a potential mate. No she was on her own when it came to that little bit of their relationship. “Do you know were he went?” he asked remembering the scraps his brother had gotten into in the last few days.
Demons who had come looking for the lord had thought him easy prey because of that no good naga who he'd failed to kill a few days back and a few had just stumbled onto the lord-child and thought him again easy meat. A group of hateful humans had come upon the boy when he'd been bathing and tried to attack him because a group of demons had recently attacked their village and a large group had been killed, including two of the boys' parents. And boys they had been, only around 17-18 even one around 14.
They'd thought that Sesshoumaru could have been one of the demons sons and attacked him and Sesshoumaru, still not knowing how to fight had reacted like a child, he'd screamed. He seemed to be gaining memories in pieces and the ability to wield a sword and fight with his claw not among them, oh he had flashes of fights and more often than not they'd been about him or Naraku.
“I'm sorry InuYasha, he just faded away!” Shippo said looking up at him with large expressive eyes. Flicking his now panicked gaze from face to face he put the kit down and raced into the thicket picking up the pups scent and following it Koga not far behind. He already knew that Koga liked his brother and when he'd been suspicious the wolf had laughed and said he was straight and wasn't going to trespass of someone else's mate. InuYasha had snapped that he was looking out for his venerable brother, though not in those words and that Sesshoumaru was most defiantly not his mate, which had gotten a patronizing look out of the wolf and a scratchy “If you say so,” as if the wolf didn't believe him.
Not that InuYasha cared, he just didn't like the fact that the wolf had noticed his slight fascination in his brother; he'd always known his brother was attractive but lately he'd noticed a little too much.
“INUYASHA!” he heard his brother cry and pushed himself to go even faster, braking into the clearing to find Sesshoumaru up against a tree with Kagura keeping him pinned there with her fans. “Get away from my brother!” he yelled as the wind hit the boy, cracking his head into the tree and bringing to InuYashas attention the cuts and marks already on the boy.
Rushing the wind witch he drew Tetsusaiga, he yelled “WIND SCAR!” cutting her next attack in half as he disrupted the air currents. “Koga check the pup will you,” he yelled as he engaged the wind witch asking “Why are you after Sesshoumaru? Does Naraku have anything to do with this?!” Smiling a tight lipped smiled she jumped back onto her feather with the barest of nodded before yelling at Sesshoumaru “Just remember my lord, Naraku will have you and soon!”
Turning he sheathed his blade and rushed to Sesshoumaru who was on the ground beside Koga, looked shocked and as soon as he was with in arms reach he threw himself at his brother. Wrapping his arms around the man-child he buried his head in his brothers' hair and murmured “Don't ever do that again Ru, you scared the shit out of me,” as Koga looked on.
Oh, yeah, sure you're not interested in your brother, even though he could very easily turn a straight man bi or gay, Koga thought as he watched the embrace and then golden eyes turned to him and he saw InuYasha's fear, his terror at losing the brother he now had. The brother who wanted him, who trusted him, didn't belittle him and seemed to love him. A brother who showed his affection readily and without hesitation and like everyone else he wondered what had changed him so very much.
“I'm sorry Yash, Koga, I didn't mean to get into trouble again,” Sesshoumaru mumbled into his brothers throat, he liked being in InuYasha's arms, it was one of the safest places he'd ever known and he'd known so few, his fathers until his 100th birthday and he had never felt safe in his mothers, such a temperamental creature she was. Pron to mood swings that often turned violent which was why his parents had split up, and having never had a lover he had never known if those arms would be safe too. And Cratus, the family doctor, a great man who had all but raised Sesshoumaru after his father turned his back on him as a son and used him as a land manger, a blood heir with no feelings.
“Again?” the wolf prince asked with a frown.
“Yeah, little Ru here tends to draw trouble to him like a magnet, demons, humans, anything that's big and bad, hungry and mad tend to come gunning for him,” InuYasha replied and Sesshoumaru bit him in irritation and gripped “I'm not little!” Grinning down to his brother he said “Are to!” and laughed when a little growl came from his brothers' throat. Joining in on the laughter Koga shook his head and stood “Come on you two nuts, lets get back to the group before anything else finds us.”
…
Kagome sighed with relief when the three demon boys returned, Sesshoumaru looking a little worse for wear but okay, InuYasha had a small worried frown on his face and Koga kept glancing around like he expected something to jump out a attack them. “Oi, Koga nock it off! Its not that bad!” Sesshoumaru suddenly snapped and the wolf looked at him with those blue eyes serious.
“InuYasha told me how many scraps you've gotten into kid, you have a knack I'll tell you that,” Koga said in all seriousness and Miroku pipped up “What happened? What scraps? How many?” his worry evident as he looked around worried. Unaffected by the conversation at hand Shippo jumped the young lord and cried “I'm sorry!” which stoped the boy mid sneer. “For what?” he asked confused.
“For talking about you behind your back!” the kit said and to Kagomes shock but no one else's surprise the lord hugged the kit close and said “Its okay, I know you didn't mean to upset me.”
“Hello! What happened?” Miroku asked taking in the battered lord as Shippo pulled some bark out of his hair after climbing onto his shoulder.
“Kagura was attacking Ru, but at least we now know that Naraku, the scum bag, smelly rodent has something to do with this,” InuYasha said looking up at the sky. An annoyed look over took the lords face an instant before he shoved InuYasha hard enough to plant the hanyou on his ass. The look on his face was so comical Miroku and Shippo laughed as Koga smirked and Sango giggled only Kagome and Sesshoumaru silent. And both had different reasons for their silence, Kagoem fear that the lord was going to now try to kill her beloved and Sesshoumaru who was looking down at InuYasha with a peeved look on his face.
“It's not that bad! And so what if that fat bastard did make me a kid again! It gave me a better, more reasonable out look, and stopped me from trying to taking your life! So quite acting as if it's the worst thing in the world! I know I'm weak like this! I know that I draw dagger because those who want me dead will smell the difference and I know that you have to put yourself in harms way to keep me safe!” he snapped glaring down at his brother. “But quit the melodrama! It's freaking annoying! So what I'm a kid, it's a good thing you idiot!” he said his face softening slightly from its annoyance, now lost between irritation and amusement and love. “And soon I'll be able to take care of myself and you want have to worry so much,” he said softly.
For Sesshoumaru that was a speech but then he did seem very talkative.
“Well, well, well, I thought you'd be cold your whole life, but you're a wind bag,” a cool voice said as Naraku stepped out of the shadows, his cloaking spell had worked perfectly.
And under his amused gaze Sesshoumaru went white and stepped behind his brother, fear radiating from his smaller frame and when InuYasha jerked to his feet Naraku noticed that Sesshoumaru was only a little smaller than InuYasha now, by only a few centimetres, an inch a half at the most. And tied to InuYashas hip was all three blades just as Kagura had told him.
The wolf priced was instantly at the boys' side, a little to the side and in front, interesting, Sesshoumaru seemed to be winning over each of the group, only the miko was unsure of his innocence and hesitated to grab her bow and arrow even though, InuYasha already had his sword out as a growl fell from his throat. Koga had drawn his katana and stood in a defensive position in front of the pup, the demon slayer, Sango had her Hiraikotsu (giant boomerang) out and ready and the monk was ready with his staff though like the other males had moved closer to the lord…
