Chapter Seven: Enter the Lions Den
InuYasha walked morosely towards his pack. He didn’t want to have to tell
them that he was going to his brother’s castle on the western mountain
range. He didn’t want to have to tell them the reason behind it either, but
he didn’t see any other way out short of running away, and InuYasha never
ran away, no matter the problem, though this time, he couldn’t help but want
to. His heart ached at the reaction Kagome would give, he could see the look
of betrayal, hurt, and anger all mixed into one. Suddenly, turning tail and
running seemed like a good idea to InuYasha, Kagome would probably sit him
into hell if he told her.
Sighing resolutely, he decided that there was no way around it, as much as
he felt for Kagome, he knew now that he could never be with her, though
somehow that seemed rather appealing to him and his youkai, sadly his human
blood disagreed strongly. Shaking his head, he lifted his gaze from the dirt
path he had been staring intently at as his eyes caught sight of his pack,
his ears picking up the sound of Shippo’s laughter as Kagome showed him
something new from her time. InuYasha looked at Kagome’s happy face, felt
his resolve slipping, and decided that the ground would be better for him to
look at if he wished to get through this alive.
He walked up to the group and felt all eyes fall of him, “Kagome I-” he
started to tell her, but she cut him off.
“INUYASHA! WHERE IN THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?! WE’VE BEEN WORRIED SICK ABOUT
YOU!” she yelled at the top of her lungs at him.
“I WAS about to tell you, but since you interrupted NEVER MIND!” he
retorted hotly as he sat down on the ground by the dead fire.
“InuYasha, Kagome was merely worried for your safety, and despite her
temper, Sango and I would like to know where you have been all night to put
our worried minds at ease,” Miroku stated calmly, trying to be the peace in
the childish group. ‘This is pathetic, Shippo acts more mature than the two
of them!’ he thought quietly.
“I-” he started, ‘do I really want to tell them? I could lie and just say I
didn’t feel like coming back… No Miroku would see through that, he always
sees through my lies.’ Sighing again he nodded mentally and began. “I was
with Sesshomaru all night.” he stated simply. “He has asked me to return to
the castle in the western lands with him, and has asked me to see if you
wish to join me. I have already told him I will go whether you decide to
join me or not.”
The group was speechless except for good ole’ Kagome. “InuYasha,” she said
in that sickly sweet voice. He knew what was coming next, but was shocked
horribly when it didn’t, “We will go with you. But you have to tell us what
you and Sesshomaru talked about last night.” she stated promptly.
“WHAT?! NO WAY!” he yelled, whoops, wrong move on his part. ‘Shit’ his mind
stated.
“Oh InuYaaaassshhhaaa” Kagome said calmly, her voice teasing his sensitive
ears, “SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT!” she yelled as she
watched him face plant into the dirt creating a rather large crater this
time, much larger than normal.
InuYasha’s eyes went wide as he felt the beads pull at his neck, his face
effectively landing in the dirt, pushing him farther with each sit. Muffled
curses came from the crater as he heard Kagome stalk away, simply stating to
him beforehand, “You can tell your BROTHER, and that I will NOT be coming. I
am going home.” she spoke harshly, coldly, damn near an imitation of
Sesshomaru, before disappearing going for the well.
Miroku sighed heavily and looked at Sango, “My love, perhaps you should go
with Kagome to see that she makes it back safely, I will go with InuYasha to
his brother’s home, and I will be sure to send word to you when we arrive.”
Sango couldn’t help but blush as she stood to leave, “Miroku, please be
careful,” she whispered to him before disappearing after Kagome.
As the spell wore off, InuYasha climbed out of his hole, and looked at the
monk, effectively silencing any smart aleck retorts he may have. Without
another word, he started off for his brothers. Miroku sighed tiredly and
stood to follow him, not really knowing where they were going since he
himself had never been to Sesshomaru’s castle, only on his lands. Their walk
was silent as night fell. By the next night, they would be at the castle if
they got an early start.
InuYasha looked at the monk out of the corner of his eye and noticed he
seemed rather tired, they had been walking none stop for the past 6 hours
and he knew the monk was only human. With a snide comment about how weak
humans were, he found a clearing just off the path and promptly jumped into
a tree, leaving the monk to his own devices. His own thoughts wrapped around
Sesshomaru and what had passed between them the previous night.
Miroku only shook his head at his friend and set about making a fire, and
producing a think if ramen noodles that he had snuck from Kagome’s bag while
she had been yelling at InuYasha, knowing she would leave. He pulled a pot
from somewhere within his robes, and moved to the small stream on the other
side of the bushes bordering the clearing, filled it and then set it on the
fire to boil. He had see Kagome do it a thousand times for InuYasha and he
pretty much had the hang of how to make them. Looking up at his friend, he
couldn’t help but notice the lost look InuYasha seemed to have on his face.
He didn’t know what the hanyou was thinking about, but he knew he shouldn’t
bother him until the food was ready.
InuYasha looked down and noticed that indeed there was ramen and his nose
hadn’t lied to him. Smiling broadly to himself, he jumped from the tree and
landed quietly beside Miroku, effectively startling him to the point that he
nearly jumped out of his robes. He snickered and took one of the two bowls
that Miroku had and quickly filled it before devouring it. “Thanks Miroku”
he mumbled before going back to his perch once his food was gone.
‘no problem my friend’ he thought as he finished his own food and set
everything aside before leaning against the tree InuYasha was under and
falling asleep sitting up with his staff perched on his lap and shoulder.
InuYasha on the other had was to busy thinking of Sesshomaru to find any
peace that night. ‘Damn him, even when he’s not here he is still fucking up
my life! BASTARD’ he yelled in his mind.

The next morning, InuYasha awoke, having found peace of mind at some point
in the night and slipped into dreamless sleep. He looked down to see the
monk had everything packed and was ready to go. InuYasha couldn’t help but
silently praise the monk for being ready, unlike a certain wench he knew.
His eye twitched at the thought and pushed it to the back of his mind. His
feet started back on the path towards his brother’s home with Miroku in tow,
once more falling into a mutual and understanding silence between the two.

They arrived, and InuYasha started to fidget, he didn’t know what to
expect, but he knew it was going to be a long month. He sighed and started
onto the castle grounds only to be stopped by a bunch of angry looking
guards who apparently didn’t recognize him or they would have known better.
“You there! Halt! This is the Castle of Lord Sesshomaru, what business do
you have here mutt!” one guard yelled.
“I’m here because my BROTHER asked me to come!” he spat back venomously.
“Lord Sesshomaru would have nothing to do with the likes of you
half-breed!” the guard retorted, smirking at the angry look on InuYasha’s
face.
“Well then, let’s see what he has to say about that.” InuYasha couldn’t
hide the smirk that graced his face as he saw his brother walking up behind
the guard, who hadn’t noticed him yet.
“Yes, what would I have to say about that InuYasha, please do come in.” he
said coolly, never once making any gestures or expressions, hell InuYasha
didn’t think the demon even blinked.
The guard jumped at the sound of his lord’s voice and the name that he had
called the half-breed in question, “LORD INUYASHA! Forgive me! I didn’t
recognize you!” he spat out, not really meaning it, but attempting to sound
sincere.
“Feh,” was all the guard got before InuYasha walked past him and into the
Castle grounds. Miroku behind and Sesshomaru leading the way.
