*~*~*~*~*
“I love you.”
Those words seemed to hang in the air. The world went still around Kouga and Kagome. She stared at the ground, waiting and hoping. I love you too, Kagome. I love you too, Kagome. Say it, Kouga. Please say it…
Kagome slowly looked up at Kouga, a blush staining her cheeks. She looked at his face, hoping to see happiness, joy, love, even…and what she saw made her heart break.
Disgust.
“You LOVE me? You can't love me. I don't love you, why should I? Kagome, we're in high school. You don't know what love is. God, Kagome, we're too young. How can you say something so stupid?!”
Slowly, a crowd gathered around the couple. Kouga's icy eyes were filled with disgust, while the poor valedictorian's grey ones were filled with hurt.
“I mean, we've known each other, what, two years? Kagome, we're going to separate colleges. You can't just tell me the day before we leave for college that you fucking love me! Kagome, I don't love you!!! I never want to see you again? Get away from me!!!”
Kagome looked up at the man, her eyes swimming with tears. Finally, she screamed, “I confess my feelings to you and you turned me down. Isn't that enough?! ISN'T IT ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT YOU BROKE MY HEART?!” The girl dropped her head in her hands, sobbing her eyes out.
“Kagome…”, Kouga said as he took a step forward. Then he looked around at the crowd around them, looking at their faces of pity for the poor girl and disgust at the boy. One pair of eyes caught his: amber ones. He realized that he had never seen eyes like that. And as Kouga looked at the boy, he lost his nerve.
“Whatever, Kagome…goodbye.”
Kouga made his way through the crowd, and Kagome slowly looked up, her vision blurred with tears. She heaved another sob, and went running in the opposite direction, cutting through the crowd. Suddenly, she crashed into something hard and warm.
“S…sorry…” she sniffled as she looked up at what she ran into. Her eyes opened wide as she looked at the eyes that were watching her. Amber mixed with gold. She had never seen eyes like that on a human before. Slowly it registered in her mind that this man must have been a demon. She didn't care too much, though. Some of her best friends when she was younger were demons. Slowly she realized that his silver hair was blowing around them, and that sticking out of them were cute little triangles that looked like ears.
Oh…a dog demon. Actually more like a half dog demon…
And that was the last thing she remembered before the world went black.
