In the way Kagome had said it was done in her time, Kaede nodded once. Even though it was not traditional, Kaede had to admit she liked the ring of the phase she was about to say. “I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss your bride.”

Miroku spared no time in grabbing Sango and bringing her against him before depositing a very happy and loud kiss upon her lips. She locked her arms around his neck and kissed him back, smiling and sighing with the content feeling that filled her up.

“That's so beautiful!” Kagome said cheerfully, grabbing InuYasha's arm. “InuYasha? Isn't that beautiful?”

“Beautiful? Hardly. He'll grope every woman present during the `recep-shion' see if he doesn't” He responded, but did not make a move to wiggle free from Kagome's grasp, who rolled her eyes.

“He will not.” She argued without much attempt, too content watching Sango and Miroku being greeted by the villagers. “They look happy.”

“Feh!”

“Come on, InuYasha, lighten up. You're so grouchy.” Shippo said, climbing on to his head and proceeding to pull one of his ears.

“Knock that off before I bonk you.” InuYasha grouched, reaching up to hit Shippou, but stopped by Kagome's hand.

“No hitting on their wedding day.” She said before looking up at the kit. “Shippo, get off his head and stop pulling his ears.”

“Okay, Kagome! I'm gonna go play with Kirara!” Shippo announced before bounding away.

“Come on, InuYasha. We have to go congratulate them.”

You go! Don't drag me along!”

But as always, Kagome never listened to him. Instead, she grabbed his hand and tugged him along, much to InuYasha's embarrassment. Some of the villagers saw their linked hands and began to whisper of `a second wedding'. “Sango, you look so beautiful!” Kagome said, hugging her friend tightly.

“Thank you Kagome.” Sango replied, linking her arm under Miroku's elbow and blushing ever so slightly.

“I'm sure you will one day make a beautiful bride as well, Kagome.” Miroku said, smiling at the young Miko. “Won't she, InuYasha?”

“Wh-How the hell should I know?”

Kagome smiled tightly. “Thank you, Miroku. And congratulations, I hope you stay happy forever!”

“I believe we will.” Miroku said, moving his gaze to a hanyou who stood besides Kagome with his usual frown.

“InuYasha, say something.” Kagome encouraged gently, pulling on the sleeve of the Miko garbs she wore for the wedding.

“Keh! Congratulations Miroku…Sango, I'm so sorry.”

“InuYasha!” Kagome dug her elbow in to his ribcage, earning a growl from the hanyou.

“What's your problem, wench?”

“Be nice!”

“I am nice!”

“You are not!”

“P-Pardon me, b-but Lady Kaede requests the presence of L-Lady Kagome.” A young village boy said, curtly bowing at the group.

“Oh! Um, sure…” Kagome said, smiling at Sango and Miroku before following the young boy.

Once Kagome was out of hearing range, Sango threw a small pebble-sized rock at InuYasha's head. “You're such a baka you know that?”

“What the fuck was that for?” InuYasha growled.

“She's going to get tired of waiting for you, InuYasha, you know that right? Get your head out of your ass and tell her you love her! She's loved you forever, InuYasha, why can't you understand that?”

InuYasha flattened his ears against Sango's words, wincing slightly.

“My beautiful wife is correct. The well closed, she cannot return home, this is your chance. She's here, she's not going anywhere. Telling her you love her in her sleep doesn't count.”

“Yes it does.” InuYasha argued, standing up straight and glowering at the newlyweds.

“No, it doesn't.” Sango said sternly, picking up the bottom of the white silk kimono she wore and walked away, pulling Miroku behind her.

`It counts…'

“They look wonderful together.” One of the village women said, smiling as she saw Sango and Miroku walk together around the guests. The cool fall breeze toyed with the bride's hair, making it shine even a lovelier shade of brown with the light of the full moon.

“Come on, InuYasha.”

“Come where, wench?”

She grabbed his sleeve. “Come dance with me, please?”

“Feh! I don't dance.”

“Everyone dances! Please?”

“No.” He said, turning his head to look in a different direction. `Dance with her…Kagome.'

He heard her sad sigh before he heard her getting up. Knowing he'd probably make a fool of himself, he shot his hand out, wrapping his fingers around her small wrist to keep her from leaving. “Alright, wench…just one time.”

That beautiful and happy grin surfaced on her face. She pulled him up and took him to where the villagers were playing music. Holding her rather clumsily, InuYasha began to shuffle his feet the way Kagome was whispering for him to do so.

“I'm so happy you changed your mind. See? You're a wonderful dancer.”

He didn't respond, but he did roll his eyes at her statement.

“M-Miroku was right.” InuYasha whispered in her ear, unknowingly sending shivers down her spine.

“R-Right about what?” She whispered back, holding him just a little bit tighter.

“Y-You'll make a…b-b-beautiful bride someday, wench.” He managed to say in a coarse voice, almost as though it took all his strength to say it.

“InuYasha.” She sighed, leaning back to look at his face. Half hidden in the shadows of the night, she could still see his unmistakable golden eyes, which bore in to her very soul.

“Whoever you marry Kagome…I-I'll always be there for you.”

Tears sprang in to her eyes even as she tried her best to hold them back. Her shoulders shook and she trembled in his arms. Her legs suddenly felt weak. “Feh! Don't cry you stupid wench.”

`InuYasha…' “You, silly.” She whispered as the first tear rolled down her cheek.

His heart skipped a beat and the air swooshed from his chest, but he still asked: “Wh-What?”

Kagome looked up at him, reaching up to touch his bangs, his forelocks, his cheeks… “I said `you'.”

“I know what you said, b-but `me' what?”

She sighed and smiled, resting her head against his shoulder. “I…I want to marry you.”

He gulped, unable to believe those words just slipped from her mouth. “Do you?”

He felt her nod against him. He knew his response, yet he couldn't bring himself to respond. Slowly, the villagers started to go back to their huts once Sango and Miroku went to their own hut.

And by midnight, it was just InuYasha and Kagome dancing to their own music under the light of the full moon.

`You're so stupid, Kagome! How could you say that?' Kagome thought, repressing the tears she desperately wanted to let loose. Even though she wanted to run away from him, she couldn't get her legs to move from their spot. She couldn't even get her head to move from his shoulder.

It was beyond her power.

He hadn't responded. She feared his answer. Somewhere deep down, did he still love the undead Kikyo? `You almost kissed him, remember? Had Souta not stormed in…'

True, but she had always been unsure of his feelings. She felt her heart drop to her feet when his voice broke their silence. “Kagome?”

“Y-Yes?”

He swallowed hard. “I-I…I'd like to marry you to.”

Her head shot up, unable to comprehend his words. Her eyes searched his for any doubt, anything that may take away their meaning. He held her closer, finally saying the words he'd been telling her in her sleep for the past four months. “I-I can't bring your family back to you, Kagome….B-But I can give you a new one, if you'll have me.”

“…InuYasha.”

He sighed. “I love you, wench. I always have and I always will.”

“I'll have you.” She replied, wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning on her toes. She nuzzled his nose with her own. “I've always loved you, InuYasha…from the moment I saw you pinned to the tree. I've just been waiting for you.”

He sighed, wrapped his arms around her and brought her even closer to him…to his heart. “I'm sorry for making you wait.”

“I love you to…a-and I'm yours, InuYasha.”

“Good.” He whispered, smiling before leaning down and pressing his lips against hers. His fears…the fears in his heart that ate him alive were suddenly gone, replaced by an emotion he didn't understand. Kagome had accepted him and that filled his entire being with a sense of pride and love. And once he took Kagome as his mate and wife, he was sure that emotion would turn in to a complete one, finally having what he wanted most: the miko who fell in to the well three years ago and broke his spell.

“Don't think I'll stop calling you `wench', wench.”

She laughed: a beautiful sound. “As long as you know you're still my puppy.”

“I ain't a pup.”

Instead of answering, she leaned up and kissed him again, smiling bashfully. “N-No more slobbering, Kagome.”

She giggled again, but kissed him once more before hugging him close. “You made me the happiest girl in the world.”

He rolled his eyes, but didn't argue, content with just holding the woman in his arms. `You make me the happiest hanyou in the world to, Kagome…'
