Just to let everyone know, Sesshomaru and Inutaisho won't have big ole puffy poof tails. I'm sorry. But in this modern day and age, tails that big just wouldn't work... Could you imagine the damage a car door could do?

Oh, and I don't know the alcohol age limit in Japan, so I'm just gonna go with 21.

silverliora and entropy9 , thanks a LOT for being my first reviews. I hope you enjoy the rest of the story ^.^

Chapter 2 - Dinner, on the rocks.

The door opened and Kagome held her breath. Inuyasha smiled and embraced the woman who was standing there. She was beautiful, with long black hair pulled back into a french braid. She was wearing a very long yellow dress with sunflowers on it. She looked and Kagome and smiled.

"Well, you must be Kagome, I do say I love that dress." she said smiling. Kagome nodded and smiled. "Well, come in." she said. Kagome followed him inside, looking around the apartment.

She had only been in these apartments once, when she was twelve, but this apartment was huge, bigger than her house even with both floors combined maybe. She looked around the living room, with the large, luscious couches and beautiful lounge chair next to the door. There were two couches and a love seat made into a square around a small coffee table. There was a large plasma television hung on the wall, several lines of movies and Cd's and game systems and things on the entertainment center under it.

There was a large painting of a field and a sunset, a forest in the background. There was a large dog sitting in the picture, looking out at the sun. It hung on the wall that the door opened up to. Kagome stopped and looked at it. It seemed as though the waves of grass were moving, such use of different shades of green, brown, a bit of blue, and orange. It was beautiful.

"Do you like it?" the woman said coming back over. Kagome nodded. "I painted it while I was pregnant with Inuyasha. It hung in his bedroom until he was twelve, but then he wanted posters instead." she said laughing.

"It's beautiful. The dog looks sad though." Kagome observed.

"He's not sad, he's happy. He just didn't know how to express it." she said quietly.

Kagome ran her hand down along the thick gold frame, she smiled and took her hand away. "I'm sorry, I like touching art." she said.

"It's fine, unless your hands are made of water or some other liquid, then go ahead. I'm sure you won't hurt it." Inuyasha's Mother said.

Kagome put her hand up over the dog's head and upper body, she ran her fingers down the neck and looked closer. Inuyasha's Mother was right, he didn't look sad, he look silently happy. Content in his quietness.

"This is her then?" Came a deep male voice. Kagome almost jumped, she stepped away and looked at a man who had come around the wall. He was tall, very tall, and it was obvious that he was Inuyasha's Father. Kagome was immediately intimidated, she gulped as he came closer. He was wearing press grey slacks and a white shirt tucked in. Kagome noticed the matching jacket that was laid neatly over the large couch.

He towered Kagome and even Inuyasha's Mother. "I'm Inuyasha's Father, as you might have guessed, and it's a pleasure to see you again." he said extending a hand. Kagome shook it and he turned to the painting. "You like it?" he asked.

"Yes, very much." she said. Kagome looked at the jagged stripes on his cheeks, she wanted to touch them for some odd reason. His long snowy pure white hair pulled up into a tail, it was probably longer than Inuyasha's.

"Come, I'd like you to meet my eldest child." he said, Kagome followed him around the wall and along another one till they came to the large dining room that was connected to the kitchen by a window and bar. There was another man sitting at the table, he stood as he saw Kagome.

Like Inutaisho he was tall, very tall, and he looked much the same, the only difference was that on his cheeks lay two thin stripes of magenta, and on his forehead a blue crescent moon. His hair was down, but Kagome could see his pointed ears, same and his Father. "This is my eldest child, my son Sesshomaru." Inuyasha's Father said.

Kagome waved a little, and Sesshomaru inclined his head slightly, respectively. He took was wearing a business suit, his jacket slung over the chair he had been in. The sleeves of his navy blue shirt rolled up. Kagome noticed that his wrists had the same stripes as his cheeks.

"Where'd Inuyasha go?" Kagome asked.

"He went to relieve himself." Sesshomaru said in a strong, yet calm and quiet voice.

"Please, sit." Inuyasha's Mother said pulling out the chair beside Sesshomaru's at one of the ends of the table. Kagome shook her head politely. "Would you like something to drink? A soda, wine?" she offered.

Kagome held up her water bottle. "A refill maybe."

"We have bottle water, it's Ash Spring water though, have you had it?" she asked. Kagome shook her head. "I'll get you some." she said taking Kagome's bottle and going into the kitchen through a swinging door as Inuyasha's Father had. Kagome felt awkward, so she took the seat quietly.

Sesshomaru was quiet as well, he looked at her. "You are lucky to join our family." he said. Kagome looked at him, not knowing if that was a complement or not.

"Thank you." she said quietly. They sat in quiet until Inuyasha came back out.

"Sorry." he said, scratching behind one of his cute little dog ears. He walked up behind her chair. "Want something to drink?" he asked.

Mrs. Soma was come out of the kitchen. "You're a little late." she said. She set down a picture of ice water and gave Kagome a glass. She poured Kagome a drink. "Tell me that's not the best damn water you've ever tasted." she said. Kagome took a sip and nodded. It was very good, for being water. It was clean, fresh, and Kagome could tell it wasn't extremely artificially filtered like most bottled water. "I gathered the water myself, it's supposed to be good luck you know. Have you ever been to Ash springs?" she asked.

Kagome shook her head and looked back up when Inutaisho came out of the kitchen with a rectangular plate. He set it down in the middle of the table and looked at Kagome. "Try one." he said. Kagome looked, it looked like someone had taken a tortilla, stuffed it with something, rolled it up, and sliced it in half inch pieces.

"What is it?" she asked. Kagome had learned once she met Kagura that it was wise to ask what you were eating when you were served food at a youkai's house. That had been the first and last time that Kagome had eaten half cooked veal.

"I'm not sure what there called." Inutaisho admitted. "A friend of mine gave them to me when I was in America last year. I've found that I can't get enough of them." he said. "Don't worry, nothing disgusting." he said. Inuyasha took one and popped it into his mouth. Inutaisho went back into the kitchen with his wife, a few seconds later they heard a loud giggle. Inuyasha looked over at his shoulder, then rolled his eyes and looked away.

"Don't mind them. You'll get used to it." he assured her. "Here, have one." he said sliding the plate over.

"Oh, no, I'm fine. I don't want to ruin my appetite." she said pushing back and inch or two. Kagome didn't feel like eating at the moment, truthfully. She didn't even want to look at the food.

There was another long silence, Kagome kept her hands in her lap, her eyes fixed on the corner of the table as though there were something fascinating there. Sesshomaru seemed content in his quiet, Kagome thought he was unusually unsocial. He had only spoken to make her more uncomfortable, and he hadn't spoken since. Weirdo.

Inuyasha looked just as uncomfortable as Kagome, which was somewhat understandable. Once Inutaisho and Mrs. Soma came back out they all sat down. Inutaisho back across from Kagome with his wife on his left by Inuyasha and Sesshomaru on his right. "Dinner will be ready shortly, we can chat until then." he said sipping a glass of blood red wine as Inuyasha poured himself a glass, Sesshomaru followed. Mrs. Soma was drinking a glass of what looked like Sprite. But it wasn't clear, like regular Sprite.

Kagome didn't care, she stopped look, and down her water in two more gulps. It was only water, after all.

"Oh, Kagome," Mrs. Soma said smiling. "I wanted you to come see my shop sometime." she said.

"Inuyasha told me about it. I've driven by, but I'm afraid it was too expensive to even go in and want what I would see." Kagome said a little ashamed that her family would never see the type of money that this family had.

"Oh, well I'd still like you to come and look, maybe you'd see something that Inuyasha can get for you." she offered. Inuyasha looked at her, and she smiled at him. "Besides, maybe you'd like some of the dresses I carry in my clothing shop. There's this lovely yellow one, that I think you would look absolutely beautiful in." she said.

Kagome nodded some. She wanted to leave, she wanted to go home and curl up in her bed, alone.

Inutaisho cleared his throat. "There was one thing that you should know, Kagome. About the marriage day." he said. "I'm sure that you know that most youkai don't have weddings. We mate, that is our nature. We don't need flashy clothing, music, a priest, and all that over exaggerated crap to be with who we want to be with legally on paper and in the eyes of others. Inuyasha has agreed to legally marry you as well as youkai traditions. Because of his human and youkai backgrounds he wasn't sure which he should follow. Do you follow me so far?" he asked.

Kagome nodded, and he continued. "It's been decided that you'll move in next Tuesday as well. And Inuyasha wanted to asked you if you'd be more comfortable in separate bedrooms, at least at first. I understand that living with an unfamiliar male could be quite awkward for you. Once you're mated we'll have a celebration dinner out at the Soma House-"

"Wait. Mated?" Kagome asked.

"Yes, mated. Do you not understand the term?" Inutaisho asked.

"Not really. Kagura always went on about, how she wished she could have mated with him, whoever him is. But I didn't know what the hell she was talking about."

"It is simple to understand. Wolves are a very good example. Wolves mate for life, they take and intended, mark them, and claim them as theirs. It is very much the same with us. We mark our females, and claim them. The mark is a warning to other males that the female is not available. The female carries the Male's scent, she in essence, his." Inutaisho explained. Kagome was starting to not like the word mate.

Kagome looked at him. "Let me get this straight. I am being forced to marry a man I don't know. I don't get a wedding even though you guys are filthy fucking rich and could afford one. And I'm expected to "mate", with him?" she asked pointing to Inuyasha, who's ears flattened to his head as though he was aggravated.

"You make it sound as though your going into slavery." Inutaisho said. "You're taking this wrong." he said leaning forward on his elbows. "Mating can be a very wonderful thing. You'll be closer, and your feelings for one another will develop much quicker. If you do what you are told, take care of your duties, you'll be treated very well." he assured. "This is our way. Males of our kind do not take good females for granted. The supply is low in these times." he said sadly.

"I'm not a female, I'm a woman." Kagome correct. "Stop referring to me as though I'm an animal." she said quietly.

"You are a female, by this I mean you have the sexual organs of a female. Woman, holds a certain level of maturity and mental capacity to it. I do not know you well enough to know if you are a woman, or a pissed off teenage girl. In time I may refer to you as a woman, until then you will have to get over it." he said bluntly.

"As I was saying, keep up to your duties, and your life will be very happy." he said.

"My duties? Cooking, cleaning, yah I do that anyways." she said boredly.

"Cooking, cleaning, making sure the bills are paid, taking care of the home, raising the children."

"Children? Oh no, see I'm not having kids yet." Kagome said smiling.

"That isn't your choice, Kagome. Whether or not conception happens is up to the gods, not us." he informed.

Kagome thought very differently. She looked away from her future step father. "I'm not a youkai, you can't expect me to just up and live to your rules, your expectations. Deal with what you have, buddy, I'm only human." she said crossing her arms.

"So am I." Mrs. Soma said quietly.

Kagome away again. A buzzer went off in the kitchen and both Inutaisho and his wife got up and went through the swinging door.

"Take me home." Kagome said looking at Inuyasha. He looked at her. "Take me home." she said again. He looked away.

"Kagome, I know this isn't easy, but we have to deal with it." he said trying to stay calm.

"Take, me, home." she said more slowly. He still didn't move. "Fine, I'll walk." she said standing and heading for the door.

"Kagome!" Inuyasha called going after her. She got to the door before he caught her wrist.

"Let me go." Kagome said bluntly, calmly.

"Kagome you can't run from this. We both have to face that it's going to happen."

"Let me go." she said again, a little louder, starting to struggle. "Let go!" she yelled, but he only yelled back.

"Listen to me!" Inuyasha shouted grabbing her by her arms. "Every week I see marriages that go bad-

"You're hurting me..." Kagome said, but he continued as though she had said nothing.

"-and it's because they won't accept what happened, what is in the contract their parents signed. It's because of people like you, people who can't learn to accept what's going to happen."

"Let go!" she said bring her hand up and slapping him across his cheek. She put her hands up on her arms as he took a step back. Her arms were red, and they hurt. She turned away, trying not to cry. She hated being so damn emotional, but she couldn't help it.

Mrs. Soma gasped and rushed forward. She put her arm around Kagome and whispered for her to come with her. She slapped Inuyasha's other cheek as she went by, and the hanyou looked very sorry, he hadn't meant to grab her liked that, she was just so uncooperative.

Kagome hid her eyes as Izayoi led her down the hall and into her bedroom. "It's okay dear." she cooed. She led Kagome over to the large soft bed and sat her down. "Now, let me see." she said looking at Kagome's arms. "It's alright, you have to understand that they don't know their own strengths Kagome. And Inuyasha's been really frustrated lately. He just, busted. At the wrong person. It's okay, dear, he didn't break skin or anything." Iza said rubbing Kagome's arms.

"I can't do this." Kagome said looking up, wiping her cheeks. She had busted took, looking into the eyes of the man who would soon own her, she had just popped like an over filled balloon. "I can't marry him." she said looking up and taking a deep breath. Kagome began to talk quickly. "He's a youkai, I'm human. This can't be happening. And all this shit about mating. I don't want to mate. It's bad enough I have to marry him and be a good wife. But mating? Kagura's told me that male youkais are controlling, they like being dominate. I can't live like a slave, doing what I'm told all the time. Especially by a youkai. And what about sex? She'd told me how strong their sex drive can be, am I expected to sleep with him whenever he wants, too? And children?! I don't want children with him! At least not yet, I barely know him. How can he ask that of me? How could my Father do this to me?" she said.

Mrs. Soma had sat quiet and listened to Kagome's rambling. She rubbing her sore arms and sighed.

"I know that your scared, dear. About being married to someone you don't know. About the sex part. And about being a slave. My first marriage, it was arranged, too." Mrs. Soma said quietly. "I was so scared on my wedding night that I nearly ran away. I was only sixteen." she explained. "My husband hit me, and he raped me, often. I was unlucky, the sweet little boy my parents had betrothed me to had grown up to be an abusive ass hole who was fond of the young girls that hung around clubs.

"I know this is what your scared of, Kagome. That he'll be like that. But he won't be. Look at me." she said, Kagome looked at her. "I swear to you, that Inuyasha can be the sweetest person once you get to know him. Of course he tries to look and act tough, but he's been through a lot in his life, and he knows better than to treat a woman like you bad. He's not stupid, he knows when a woman deserves to be treated good. And Kagome, you deserve that. I want you to really think about it. How many hanyou males have you married?" she asked.

Kagome laughed. "None." she said quietly.

"Then you don't know what it'll be like. Inutaisho was right when he said that you'll be treated right. I want to tell you something that Inuyasha is a bit ashamed of, okay?" she asked. Kagome nodded. "Did you know, that eighty four percent of all the hanyous in the world are unable to conceive a child?" she asked. Kagome shook her head. "It's true. And half of that sixteen percent who can, won't conceive a child because it's too difficult. They have to have sex with a partner who is completely compatible. And both of the couple must be fertile at the same time.

"There's a good chance that Inuyasha won't be able to have offspring, Kagome. He wants to marry a woman who won't care that he's hanyou, and that wants children, even though he probably can't have them. Just knowing that you'd like to have his child, that would him so happy, okay?" she asked.

Kagome wiped her nose, and nodded. "But he's not human." she said. "How will I know what to expect from him? I didn't even know about him until a year ago, and now I find out that he's not human. You don't know how scary that is." she said quietly.

"Kagome, he's half human. It isn't his fault that he's a hanyou. What is he supposed to do? Most youkai females wouldn't let him near them. I raised him, Kagome. I taught him what's right, and what's wrong. I taught him about life, about women. Don't just reject him because of his blood, it isn't his fault that I fell in love with Inutaisho and wanted a child. Inuyasha has been rejected all his life by others. You are going to be his wife, don't make him feel rejected by you as well." Mrs. Soma said quietly.

"What about sex? How can I be expected to have sex with him whenever he wants?"

"Kagome, I don't know what you've heard. But, sex with youkai males is... very nice..." Mrs. Soma said blushing. "Inuyasha was told everything he needs to know by his Father, in detail. Don't worry, your wedding night will be an experience you'll never forget." she assured, smiling.

Kagome shook her head a little, she still wasn't happy. "I don't know if I can do this, though. I'm not ready to be married, to move away from the house I've lived in since I was born. I don't know if I can be a good wife. I'm only eighteen." she said quietly. "I'm so frightened." she said.

"Like Inuyasha said to you, he deals with marriages gone bad every week. And he never knew how hard it could be until this came. He never understood how confusing it could be, how scary. Inuyasha's being forced into this too, Kagome, don't forget that." Mrs. Soma said quietly.

"Yah, but, why did you and Mr. Soma ever think that it was a good thing to give your son in marriage without his consent? Without knowing who he'd be marrying?" Kagome asked.

"Kagome, I didn't have a say in it. Inutaisho's the husband, he made the arrangements, he signed the papers. When you're a bit older, and you have children, you'll understand. I thought the same way when I was your age, but now I understand. Now, go in the bathroom, freshen up, and come back out, alright? I'll tell Inutaisho to drop the topic for now." she said.

Kagome sighed. "But what about Tuesday? My birthday. I don't even get a wedding. Such bullshit. He might as well not bother with a ceremony at all. I don't even want one." she said.

"Do you want me to tell him that?" Mrs. Soma asked softly. Kagome thought for a moment, then she nodded. "Alright. I'll have Inutaisho set it up, and you can sign the papers next week." She said. Kagome nodded.

"I still wanna go home, though, I wanna be alone." Kagome said quietly.

"Well, Inutaisho and I spent most of the afternoon cooking just so we could all have a nice dinner. Stay here for a few minutes, calm down, and I'll go get the table ready." she said. She rubbed Kagome's arms a little. "I know we don't know each other very well, but I'm sure I'll be happy to have you in my family."

Mrs. Soma left, and Kagome stayed where she was. She didn't even want to look at them. After a minute she took Mrs. Soma's advice and went into the attached bathroom to clean her face.

When Izayoi came out of the bathroom Inuyasha and Inutaisho stood from the table. Sesshomaru had left, not wanting to get involved or listen too Inuyasha's problems.

Mrs. Soma went right past her husband an her son, into the large kitchen. She went over to the fridge and took out a bottle of red wine, her favorite. Inutaisho came in and walked over. "Is she alright?" he asked stroking a taloned hand down his mate's back.

"She'll be fine. She's just like I was when I was about to get married, to Shinzo. You remember." she said. Inutaisho nodded, and he kissed her head. "Drop the marriage subject, okay. She's still very confused. Just like I used to, she's only thinking of the bad." Iza explained. "She'll come around, though. I see myself in her. At first she'll be scared, frantically. But she'll calm down soon enough."

Inutaisho nodded. "Inuyasha will apologize. He... he snapped." Inutaisho said. Iza nodded, and they both went to set the table together.

~~~ <.< ~~~
Kagome only spent five or six minutes in the bathroom, she went back out to the bedroom, then she opened the door to the hall. Inuyasha was waiting there, he looked at her when she opened the door. Kagome looked away and took a step back.
"Look, I'm sorry, okay?" Inuyasha said quietly, putting his hands into his pockets. "I really, I really don't know what I was thinking." he explained.
Kagome nodded, and he let her go first, he followed her back out to the dining room, where Kagome looked at the delicious food on the table. Izayoi was still putting the silverware by the sparkling white square plates. She smiled a little, then bowed her head again and went back to the chair she had been sitting in. Inuyasha's brother had gone, and now there were only four chairs at the table. Inuyasha took the side right to Kagome.
Inutaisho sat down again, setting down a wine glass filled with the unusually red liquid for Inuyasha and himself. Izayoi had set out a bottle of red wine for herself. Once Mrs. Soma came back out with a basket of bread, she sat down and smiled to Kagome warmly.
There was a platter of shrimp in the middle of the table, it looked very delicious. "Please, dig in." Mr. Soma said. Everyone began to gather food onto their plates. Kagome noticed that Inuyasha and Inutaisho were eating from a smaller platter or what Kagome hoped wasn't only seared meat still uncooked inside. The only thing that everyone was eating from was the shrimp. Kagome got some of the fried rice, and a bit of the catfish, and seasoned, baked, then fried vegetables. There were a few smaller dishes, Kagome sampled them sparingly.
"Dear," Inutaisho said, breaking the awkward silence. "Inuyasha tells me that you sold the Ishhimaru Set today. Did you, really?" he asked.
Mrs. Soma nodded. "It seems that man has a very special woman in his life. He said she was going to love it." she explained smiling. "Six hundred sixty three thousand dollars worth of jewels all on one single piece. But it was too much for me." she said. "Most expensive piece in my shop, I'll need a new main attraction." she said shrugging. "You know, someone asked me, why I don't have million dollar jewelry in my shop, with all the money we have and all. I just told him that I like variety. Some of my jewelry is in the hundreds, some thousands, then it goes all the way up to the Ishhimaru Set. I don't know why, but those big, honky necklaces that those rich bimbos wear, it's too much." she said shrugging to herself. "I like simple things, most of my jewelry isn't too expensive, you know." she said to Kagome.
"I'm sure it won't take Ishhimaru more time to make another one, though." Inutaisho said sipping from his drink.
Kagome ate quietly, she didn't know what to say, what to ask.
Inuyasha looked at her, he cleared his throat a little. "Um, I was going to ask if you wanted to come view the house, it's still under construction, but I thought you might be interested." he asked quietly.
Kagome shrugged a little. "Whenever's fine." she said.
"Saturday?" he asked. She nodded, she didn't think she had plans on Saturday.
"You know," Mrs. Soma said to Inuyasha. "I was out with Ouya and we saw the cutest corner section couch at that store down on Maiyo street. It's light brown, with red throw pillows, it was so adorable." she said taking bread from the basket and pulling it apart. "You could always go look in Alkali's store. But it is a bit expensive." she said pondering.
"And?" Inuyasha asked, laughing a little.
Mrs. Soma rolled her eyes and leaned over to Kagome. "You know, I tried to raise him to know how to deal with money, but no, his Father has to give him credit cards, and wallets full of cash." she said rolled her eyes again. "When I was growing up, we counted every penny, and never once said that something wasn't too expensive. We were almost kicked onto the street at least twice a year. See Inutaisho was born rich, all those centuries ago. But like I always say, at least he knows better than to try and show off his money in front of me." she said smiling.
Inutaisho smiled a little, and Mrs. Soma put her hand on his on the table. "Spoiled bastard." she whispered, he smirked at her again. "Both of them." she said motioning to her son and husband.
Kagome chuckled. "Well, I know when my Mom had to go back to work, after Grampa died, we really hit bottom. He was always the one to handle the finances, so Mom went nuts after he was gone. Living at a shrine all your life, you learn to appreciate what you have, and not be greedy." she said.
"Exactly. People like him don't know what it's like to need." she said looking at her mate.
"I need you." he said quietly, Mrs. Soma blushed and gave him a kiss.
"Suck up." she said, he smirked again. "Well, Kagome, Inuyasha tells me you have a brother? How old is he?" she asked.
"He's fifteen. He works up at the mall." she said.
"Oh? I have two younger brothers. Ones forty three and ones forty. My sister is thirty six though, the youngest." she said.
Kagome's jaw dropped. "How old are you?" she asked.
"Forty nine, why?" she asked. She smiled. "I know, I don't look it. I sure do fee it sometimes though."
"There's no way your forty seven, you look, twenty something." Kaome said. "Considering Inuyasha's age I was thinking, like, maybe forty. But come on, forty nine? You look like his sister!" she said.
Mrs. Soma smiled. "Well, it's because of him." she said motioning towards Inutaisho. "The day after I mated with him I felt like I was sixteen again. It's something in the blood, keeps you looking beautiful." she said.
"It's weird when you go out with your son and people are commenting about his 'girlfriend'." Izayoi said rolling her eyes.
Kagome shook her head and continued to eat quietly.
Once everyone was done with dinner Inuyasha and Mrs. Soma took the dishes to the kitchen. Izayoi wiped down the table, then she brought out a round cake one a crystal cake stand. She set it down while Inuyasha handed out smaller plates. It was covered in white icing, and had what looked like boiled carrot slices on top.
"Do you like carrot cake, Kagome?" Mrs. Soma asked. Kagome nodded. "Carrot cake with candied carrots, my personal favorite. Dear?" she asked looking at Inutaisho, he nodded, and she gave him a slice. It did look and smell wonderful. "Inuyasha, your plate."
"Kagome, how much would you like?" she asked.
"Oh, not too much, I'm on a break from sweets." Kagome said.
"Oh nonsense. A girl your size should not be dieting, your young, enjoy your metabolism while you have it." she said smiling. Kagome took a piece smiling, and then Izayoi got a piece for herself. "I absolutely love carrot cake. When I was a girl, I'd go down the bakery every Sunday and buy a piece with the change I could scrap up during the week. After a five or six months the baker stopped taking my money. I felt bad, but, hey, free cake!" she said smiling.
Kagome laughed a little, she took a bite and smiled. The cake was still warm, probably been in the oven. Kagome hadn't had carrot cake in years. It was good.
Inuyasha was scarfing down, apparently he loved it too.
Once they were done Mrs. Soma took the dishes to the kitchen and then came back and sat down. "Well, that was a nice dinner." she said smiling. "You know, I don't think Inuyasha's ever been so polite at a meal before." she said looking at her son, who rolled his eyes.
"True," Inutaisho said. "Normally he uses his paws to eat, like an animal."
Inuyasha ignored both his parents and drunk the last of the wine only he and his father were drinking.
"What is that?" Kagome asked, pointing to his glass.
"Oh, it's um, kinda like wine, only much stronger." Inuyasha said.
"It's a youkai drink, it has blood in it." Mrs. Soma said turning her face away from it.
Inutaisho smirked and sipped from his again, Kagome got goose bumps. "Nasty..." she said quietly. Mrs. Soma nodded in agreement.
"Would you like some wine?" she asked picking up the bottle.
"Uh, can't, under twenty one." Kagome said shaking her head. "My Mother only allows me wine while she's there and while she's there only."
"Oh, Kagome, one glass is not going to hurt you. Here, try some." she said pouring a half glass for Kagome.
"And she complains about me not following the law." Inuyasha said quietly.
"Oh, shut up." His Mother spat at him, he smiled.
Kagome didn't touch the glass at first, then Izayoi drunk from hers again. Kagome took a sip, knowing that her Mother would slap the shit out of her if she was here. Kagome only took a few sips, then she set the glass gown and put her hands in her lap.
"You know, I should probably get home." Kagome said to Inuyasha, he nodded.
"Oh... Stay a little longer?" Mrs. Soma said pouring herself another glass. Somehow, Kagome knew it'd be stupid to say no, Mrs. Soma was one of those, quiet, lovely, extremely persuasive people.
They moved into the living room and Kagome sat down one the sofa to the left, Inuyasha sat next to her, his parents sitting on the middle one. "So, Kagome," Inutaisho said pouring himself another glass of the red drink. "I'd like you to see the family home sometime, it's North of here, in the country. My sister lives there now, her and her children. We have a reunion every three years, I'd enjoy it if you went this year." he said.
"When is it?" she asked.
"It's in December, December sixth, I believe."
"I guess I could." Kagome said shrugging. She took another small sip of her drink, it was good once she took the time to taste it.
They were quiet for a moment, then Kagome drank the rest of her glass, and sat back.
"Oh, um, Kagome, I was wondering," Mrs. Soma said pouring herself another glass of wine. "When can we meet your Mother?" she asked.
Kagome shrugged. "Whenever you want, I suppose." she said.
Izayoi looked into her glass and smiled. She looked up. "Do you dance?" she asked out of the blue.
Kagome looked at her. "I used to, a lot. Not lately though." she said quietly.
"Inuyasha can dance, did you know? We, Inutaisho and I, go dancing a lot, don't we, Dear?" she asked, Inutaisho nodded. "You should come with us one night, ballroom dancing is one of my passions." she said smiling.
"I don't dance anymore, thank you though." Kagome said quietly.
"Oh... oh why not? Please come with us sometime?" Mrs. Soma asked sweetly.
"I don't dance anymore, stop asking." Kagome said setting her glass down. "I don't dance anymore." she said again.
Izayoi seemed taken back by Kagome's statement. She nodded, dropping the subject.
"I think I should be getting home." Kagome said standing, Inuyasha and his parents followed.
"Okay, see you...? When will I see you again?" Izayoi asked, walking with Kagome to the door.
"Um, I'm not sure. It was nice meeting you." Kagome said, shaking Inutaisho's hand, Mrs. Soma gave her a hug, and Inuyasha said bye to his parents as he took Kagome out into the hall.
They walked over to the elevator and Inuyasha pushed down. Kagome took a deep breath, she seemed slightly angry.
Once they got down into the garage Inuyasha opened the door for her, then got in and started the car. He looked at her, she looked away.
"It could have gone worse. She could have gotten completely drunk." Inuyasha said pulling out of the parking space and going out to the gate.
"I could have gotten drunk too, although you would probably like me drunk." Kagome said. "Miroku says I'm a happy drunk, I drink too much and I love everyone." she said nodding her head a little.
"I get fairly sad when I'm drunk, I normally just sit there and stare at something for a while." Inuyasha admitted. They pulled out into the street and Kagome looked at him.
"I wanted to tell you something." she said. "About Tuesday." she said. He glanced at her, and continued driving. "If you still don't want a wedding, neither do I." she said.
Inuyasha came to a stop light, he looked at her. "Are you sure?" he asked. Kagome nodded.
"It'll be easier that way." she said in a final tone. "We can just, sign the papers, say the crap and get it done with." she said. Inuyasha looked back to the road and nodded in agreement.
The drive back to her house was a quiet one, neither of them even wanted the radio. It began to rain halfway there, Kagome entertained herself by watching the rain pour down the window.
When they got to her house he parked below the tall stone steps, and turned the car off. "I'll walk you to the door." he said.
"No." Kagome said, making him pause. "It's fine, I'll go by myself. Besides, you have to get back in the car." she said. "Really, stay." she said when he went to protest.
"Wait, I wanted to talk to you." Inuyasha said, grabbing her wrist gently when she went to leave. She sat back down, and looked at him. "I wanted to say, that I really am sorry for my behavior when I got mad. I've just been, really frustrated, and I get nervous around you." he admitted. "It'll never happen again, okay?" he asked. Kagome nodded, and pulled her arm away from him. "I'll pick you up on Saturday? We can also take some of your things over." he suggested.
"That'll be fine." Kagome said, she put her hand on the door handle. "Bye." she said opening the door and getting out. She hurried across the parking lot and didn't look back as she made her way to her house. She went inside and closed the door behind her.
Sota was in the kitchen scarfing down on some ramen, watching the TV through the front room doors. He looked at her, and stared. "You look like a wet cocktail waitress in that dress."
"Yah well cold water makes the material get smaller." Kagome said passing him and popping him on the back of his head with the back of her hand.
"How was dinner?" he asked, his eyes going back to the TV.
"It sucked ass, tell Mom not to bother me, I'm going to bed." she said leaving the room and going upstairs.
Kagome stopped at Sota's bedroom and reached up to the vent above his door, she closed it, making sure the air conditioner pumped more cool air into her bedroom. She went to her bedroom and ripped off her constricting dress. She ripped off her panties and then stood in front of her mirror.
Strange, how you can look into a mirror at yourself, and think you looked completely different from how you looked that morning. Kagome felt like that right now.
She looked tired, she knew it. She looked like she'd been out working all day. But it wasn't a physical exhaustion, it was mental. Her brain had been going like a humming bird all damn day. Of course it had gotten worse at dinner. Her mind was going insane, hopping from subject to subject, emotion to emotion, and back again. She took a wipe from her desk and sprayed some water on it, she cleaned her makeup off, and then looked at her face. She had circles under her eyes, but that was from not being able to sleep last night.
With a loud clap of thunder and a loud flash outside her window Kagome decided that was enough staring at her own body. She went to her bed spread the blanket and sheet out, then locked her door and laid down to rest. She'd shower in the morning, she didn't even want to take the energy to stand up that long.
So many subjects had come up at dinner. The wedding, the wedding night, the house, dancing. Dancing...
Kagome used to dance, but she didn't any more. Dancing was no fun if you had no passion for it anymore. All of her love of dancing had left with her partner. The one man she had loved. The one she had been forced to give up because of Inuyasha, who was the man who would soon, to put it plain and simple, own her.
Kagome laid there and thought about dancing for a long time. She wanted to dance, it was one of life's simple pleasures that gave Kagome a unique thrill. But no, he was gone, and along with him, her want to dance.
'Koga, I miss you so much...'
Well everyone, there's chapter two. Hope you enjoyed it. After these first few chapters the chapters will get a little longer, I wanted to leave this chapter like it was. Next chapter Kagome and Inuyasha go look for furniture for their new home together. What happens when they come to the beds department of the store?
Chapter four will be the wedding night (hopefully). Will Kagome be completely resistant? Or will she melt when Inuyasha uses his most irresistible charms? Will she beg him to stay home the next day with her, or pray he stays at work forever?
Leave me some reviews and tell me what you think will happen!
Until the next chapter!
