...
I am nothing more than the reincarnation of his dead lover. I am nothing more than a shard detector. I mean nothing to him, so why do I torture myself with yearning fantasies of Inuyasha proclaiming his love? Why do I torture myself by always returning to the past? Why? Why I am so weak and easily bent by love? Maybe Inuyasha is right, maybe I am useless.
How could Kagome be in love with some stupid male from her time? One that hurt her so many times! He has changed her so much and he made her suffer, and why does it hurt so much? Why does it matter to me if she's in love or not? I'm confused; why can't I just ditch either Kagome or Kikyou? Why is it so hard to choose between them?
If only I could stop time, then Inuyasha and I could be together forever. We wouldn't be scarred by time, age, or change. We would always remain vital and strong, as well as our love. I am sure Inuyasha has no protests about that. I know that he thinks about me every waking moment. He confessed that much after our first kiss after my death. It's only my inferior reincarnation, that Kagome, that is holding him back. If only I could eradicate her, then my wish would come true.
....
Kagome rose early the next morning, feeling refreshed. But when her mind flashed back to yesterday's events, her excited grin instantly faded.
"I have made an oath. I will not step in between them. I want Inuyasha to be happy because he deserves to be. Kikyou deserves to be happy because she has suffered so much…I cannot deny that. For once, she deserves a good life, and this time I don't want it to go wrong. So I won't butt in. I won't follow after Inuyasha like some lovesick puppy. I am stronger than that. But I know I won't ever be able to give up on Inuyasha, so I'll have to bury my feelings if Inuyasha and Kikyou can be happy."
It was easier said than done.
Why does it hurt so much? Why can't I be selfish and try to get Inuyasha for myself? Kagome shook her head, trying to clear out the cobwebs. Because I'm not like that...though I wish I was.
"Burying my feelings...that means no more cuddling, riding on his back, or flirting." Kagome gnawed on her lip, weaving her fingers through her tangled hair. When she hit a snag, she tried to hold back a yelp of pain, but failed.
"Stupid girl." Kagome's heart leapt into her throat. Inuyasha was perched up on the windowsill, looking at her dully, while one of his ears continued to twitch as the yells of her frantic grandfather drifted through the grounds. Something about…warding off vicious demons who were trying to make off with his granddaughter.
"Who are you trying to stop flirting with? That Yoshiro guy?" Kagome tried to ignore the hopefulness welling up in her heart when she noticed the jealous tone his voice was taking. Even though he's talking about himself.
"What are you talking about?" Kagome asked. "I was just…mumbling that's all."
In a flash, Inuyasha was across the room and nose to nose with Kagome.
"Liar." Kagome felt the heat rise in her cheeks from their closeness. Her gaze was glued to his lips that looked so…soft and kissable. He was doing likewise. As they began to lean closer and closer, Gramps suddenly burst into the room.
"FOUL DEMON!" he screeched before plastering Inuyasha with harmless ofudas. Inuyasha fell off the bed anime-style while Kagome tried to calm down her rapidly beating heart. Her blood was thundering in her ears and she felt her whole face burn with embarrassment. What just happened? Were we going to...Ack! I went against my oath! I can't get close to Inuyasha anymore if his relationship with Kikyou is going to work. I'll ruin everything!
"Kagome? Kagome?" She felt something long and sharp jabbing at her forehead.
"Huh?"
"Do you always space out like this?" Inuyasha snickered as he continued to poke Kagome with his claw. She slapped his hand away with an irritated snort.
"Shut up.I was thinking about something very important."
"It's about Yoshiro, isn't it?" Inuyasha asked darkly.
"Yes."
"Spill it," the hanyou demanded.
"I've decided...not to interfere."
"Huh?" Inuyasha cocked his head cutely and one ear twitched, as if it too was trying to understand. It's times like these that make my oath seem harder and harder. But I must resist his cuteness!
"He and Kiki are the perfect couple...I don't want to ruin their relationship because I want Yoshiro for myself. It wouldn't be fair. Kiki has already suffered so much, she deserves I…Yoshiro...Besides, it's not like Yoshiro feels the same way about me. I don't want to ruin their relationship and have my heart crushed, too. So I've decided to keep my distance from him. And resist his charms."
Inuyasha grunted.
"Yeah right! Like you could ever do that."
"What do you mean? I could build up plenty of resistance."
"First of all, Yoshiro ain't go no charms. Second of all, you'd obviously be all over the guy if you got the chance. And three, well...um…"
"Shut up." Kagome swatted him playfully with her pillow.
"Hey!"
What am I doing?! I made AN OATH!!!!!!!!!!! But maybe I don't have to avoid him, because if I did…I'd be like losing a part of myself. It would be even worse then losing all of my soul to Kikyou. We can still be friends, but nothing more, nothing less. I don't want to hurt Inuyasha's feelings by pulling away from him. I know he's sensitive about being a half demon. And when Kikyou comes back to life and they get married and have children, I won't interfere.
"I think you've got PMS." Inuyasha mumbled. "You're all moody." He got another swat for that.
"It's not PMS, it's called depression. Ring a bell?"
"Hmm…no."
Poking at Kagome is fun. Why didn't I do this more often? Oh right…the s-word.
"Hey Kagome?"
"Hm?"
"Why don't you sit me anymore?"
"I still sit you Inuyasha!" *THUMP* Inuyasha winded up yelling through a mouthful of carpet.
"Oops...sorry."
"Wench," he mumbled as he struggled into a sitting position. Kagome chose to ignore the comment and continued making her bed and fluffing her pillow.
"Don't question me, or I'll start dishing out daily sits. Like the good old days." Inuyasha spluttered.
"The good old days? Those were torture!"
"It's not like you didn't deserve them," Kagome muttered. "But enough of this. I'm going to go take a shower. You'd better be out of my room by the time I get back or else you'll have to fight demons with a broken back."
...
"But just because there seems to be no way out, doesn't mean that there isn't. There are several options that we can choose from so that we can be together. You could go to hell with me, your brother, the full demon Sesshomaru, could revive me with Tenseiga, you could make a wish upon the Sacred Jewel, or you could finally kill that disgusting wench Kagome so that I could get back the soul that is rightfully mine!"
.
"Inuyasha," she said in her mellow, monotonous voice. He could still hear her clearly, though her body wasn't visible. "If you will not let me come back, I will do it without your help!"
.
Did you really mean it, Kikyou? Will you really come back? Is Kagome's really in danger? I don't want to lose either of you, but I know I have to chose one. Kikyou was my first, she was sweet and kind in life, and if she comes back, she'll be the same, right? But Kagome...she'll always be sweet, no matter what. But if I'm selfish...won't that put her life in jeopardy? If I'm so selfish to let Kikyou come back, just for me to be happy, I'll be putting Kagome's life at risk.
As Inuyasha lounged on the firm branches of the God Tree, he thought about his current predicament. He couldn't prefer one of the girls without hurting the other. He couldn't choose between the girls without hurting one of them. It was a lose-lose situation. And for some reason he was leaning towards
Kikyou.
Why?
Because Kikyou loved him. She always had. And she suffered so much, the least he could do was ease the suffering and hurt inside of her. Besides, he loved her, too. The feeling was utterly mutual, with no if's, and's, or but's. He wouldn't have to worry about her ever leaving him, or about ever leaving her. And there were no other boys in her life to compete with.
But Kagome...she had given up so much just to be with him...her friends, life, family...and her love life. It had been hard to absorb the fact that Kagome was in love with another male...It wasn't fair! Hadn't he risked his life everyday to protect her? Hadn't he endured her painful sits? He had given up just as much as she had, and yet she still went running back to stupid Yoshiro! And all he did was hurt her!
He would be much better for Kagome…Inuyasha blushed. What was he saying? Of course he wouldn't be! He was a sinful hanyou. He was weak on the night of the new moon and a raging monster that killed countless innocence when Tetsusaiga was knocked from his grasp. Kagome was so beautiful…so innocent...so perfect. He could never live up to her standards, not any day of the week. She deserved someone better, someone better than Yoshiro and himself. She deserved so much more than what he could offer. She would be safer in her time, too. Kagome wouldn't have to worry about warding off demons everyday and struggling to stay alive in the untamed world of the Feudal Era. She wouldn't have to worry about protecting or being protected.
Kagome could be the carefree teenager that she always wanted to be. She wouldn't be bogged down with living a double life, she wouldn't have to worry about near death experiences, her inferiority to Kikyou, her miko powers, or him. Inuyasha grimaced. Yes, she is much better off without me.
And that's why he was leaning towards Kikyou.
That's why he felt he should give up on Kagome. As much as it felt as if his heart was crumbling into tiny pieces at the mere thought of letting her go, it was for the best. Kagome was wonderful and she deserved the best, and the best was more than he could ever offer her.
...
I have masked my aura...no one will notice me until it is too late, Kikyou thought as she crept up on the sleeping shard hunting party. I know I made a promise in life to never use the Sacred Jewel, but I am using it for good, not evil. It will not be tainted, because my only wish is to be with Inuyasha forever. Is that a crime? She scanned the area, searching for her reincarnation. Kikyou spotted her, laying curled up in a sleeping skin with the fluffy kitsune at her side.
Stupid girl. She slipped over to Kagome and smiled evilly once she spotted the bottle of shards laying innocently around her neck. Not too gently, Kikyou ripped them away and unscrewed the top. I am tempted to take all of them, to teach Kagome a lesson, but one is all that is needed. With one shard, I shall overpower Kagome and have Inuyasha all for myself. The hanyou in question snorted in his sleep, one ear flicking as she crunched the grass as she made her way back to the forest. But, before she left, she covered the aura that the shard gave off so that Kagome wouldn't be able to detect it.
Inuyasha will be mine, Kagome, Kikyou thought darkly. And there is nothing you can do to prevent me from returning. Remember that.
...
"C'mon Inuyasha…don't do this." Kagome pleaded. "I just need to go back for supplies. You want more ramen, right? And I need to restock my first aid kit and get Shippo those chocolates he's been wanting." Inuyasha grunted.
"Yeah right. How do I know that you're not going to run off with this…Yoshiro guy and...well."
"Well what?" Inuyasha blushed.
"It's not important." Kagome shrugged him off and tossed her giant yellow backpack in the well.
"It should only be for an hour, Inuyasha, okay? Don't worry, I promise I won't be gone longer than that."
You can't leave Kagome...I have to tell you about my decision, that I can't see you anymore. It'll be for the best. No matter how much it hurts me, you'll benefit from it. You'll be able to be normal and not worry about me or demons anymore, and you'll find someway to get through Yoshiro's thick head...I'm positive. There are only a few more shards left to collect, then you'll be free from me. I'll never bother you again, Kagome. You deserve so much more than what I can offer, which is only my protection...and love. Inuyasha felt his cheeks burn with embarrassment. And you can't survive off of just those two things.
Suddenly he felt something warm touch his cheek…Kagome's hand. Unlike Kikyou, she was so...warm...inviting ^ insert Inuyasha's blush here^, and her scent was intoxicating, something that he would miss dearly. Why hadn't he realized earlier that Kagome was so close to his heart? Why did it have be when he was forcing himself to give her up? Why?!
"Inuyasha? You okay? You just spaced out!" Kagome's warm voice was laced with her obvious concern.
"Y-Yeah.I'm fine." But Inuyasha couldn't bring himself to remove her hand from her face. Now when she was so worried about him.
"Do you have a fever? Your whole face is red!"
"I'm f-fine Kagome. It's just the heat.that's all."
"Well if you're sure."
"Positive! Now back off!"
"Inuyasha!"
"You're always sticking your nose where it doesn't belong, idiot. And that's why I always have to end up saving your sorry butt!" Kagome snatched her hand away from his face.
"Excuse me!?"
"You're not excused!"
"SIT!"
"Umps..."
"Hm!" Kagome stuck her tongue out at him and was over the lip of the well before he could protest.
As soon as she was gone, Inuyasha let out a pitiful whimper. He had landed on a relatively large jagged rock that had gone unnoticed until he oh-so-gracefully landed on it and the pointy tip stabbed him. Blood began to seep from the gnash and it stained his white shirt.
"Stupid girl! What is she trying to do? Kill me?" he growled to no one in particular.
He pressed his hand firmly against the wound, trying to stop the blood flow as he got to his feet.
Suddenly a glimmering blue ribbon of light streamed across the sky, catching Inuyasha's attention. He knew what it was. How could he not, after seeing it so many times?
Only one word came from his mouth: Kikyou.
...
Kagome clambered from the well, expecting the grumpy welcoming party that consisted of a PO'd hanyou and a hyperventilating kitsune. But this time, there was no one.
"They must be in the village."
She found Miroku, Sango, Shippo, and a purring Kirara in front of Kaede's hut. Miroku and Sango were whispering secretively and Shippo was fast asleep on the fire cat.
"Hey!"
"Ah, Kagome-sama."
"Kagome-chan!"
"How are you doing?"
"Fine!"
"Have you seen Inuyasha around?"
Miroku shook his head.
"I was sure he was at the well," Sango began.
"I am sorry we couldn't be of more use to you, Kagome-sama."
The girl sighed and plucked up her bow and quiver of arrows that were resting by the mat in the front of Kaede's hut.
"He could be in danger."
"Would you like us to come with you, Kagome-chan?" Sango asked.
"No. I'll be okay!"
"If you're sure." Miroku started slowly.
"Positive. See ya later! Inuyasha can't be too far off!"
"If I know Inuyasha as well as I think, I know where he is." Sango sighed and squeezed Miroku's hand.
"With Kikyou."
....
Sprinting back to the well, Kagome checked to see if Inuyasha was there before disappearing into the forest. Stumbling over tangled, prickly brush, Kagome winced as some sharp thorns pierced her flesh. Looks like I'll never
be a leg model. She thought wryly as she continued to comb her way through the forest. I hope that Inuyasha didn't go too far. And I pray that a demon doesn't sneak up on me and..
Before she noticed it, she had managed to discover a clearing and in it were Inuyasha and Kikyou. Inuyasha was completely shirtless and Kikyou was rubbing his well toned chest, while he let out small growls of pleasure and appreciation.
N-No it-it can't b-be!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As much as Kagome tried to hide from the truth, she couldn't accept the facts.
And they were?
Inuyasha and Kikyou were having sex.
…
I know you hate me for this.
But is it what you think?
Am I pulling your leg?
Are Inuyasha and Kikyou really having sex?
Is it a well-thought out scheme concocted by Kikyou?
Am I retarded? Hm.
All this and more will be revealed in chapter four.
JUST NO FLAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
But reviews are nice...yes...very nice.
