InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Memories and the moon ❯ Intense, but necessary ( Chapter 5 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Summary: The new moon causes Inuyasha to become human for one night, but what about the full moon? On the anniversary of Izayoi's death, Inuyasha discovers a strange secret about himself, one that will keep the others on constant watch, not only for their safety, but his as well.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha. If only I did, imagine what I could accomplish.
The old woman smiled at the hanyou. She stood slowly and turned towards Kagome. “You, young miko, what connection do you have with Izayoi's son?”
“I'm… I'm his friend, Mistress Yori. I am Kagome and I was the one who freed Inuyasha from the Goshinboku.”
“Ah, so you are the alleged reincarnation of Kikyo? How interesting. Perhaps you should come with us, then. I am quite certain you would benefit from a few days training as well.”
Kagome looked to Inuyasha, then back at the sorceress. “Thank you, Mistress. I would love to receive training from one as noble as yourself.”
Yori nodded and turned her attention back to the hanyou. “Very well then. Your training shall begin tomorrow morning. I shall meet you at the Goshinboku after the sun has risen. Until then, my pupils, good day.”
With that, the powerful sorceress turned her back to them and disappeared in a flash of green light. The two companions turned to one another, eye wide. Both had the same thought on their mind. “When are we gonna learn to do that?”
The next morning, Inuyasha and Kagome woke up early. Both were ready and waiting for their training to begin. However, Inuyasha didn't seem nearly as thrilled as Kagome.
“Is something wrong, Inuyasha? You don't look very happy.”
“It's nothing, Kagome. It's just… Well, I just wonder how intense this training will be. I mean, what if one of us gets hurt? Or what if we accidentally use a spell we don't mean to and destroy something?”
Kagome looked at Inuyasha and smiled. “Is that all? I'm sure we'll be fine, Inuyasha. Yori won't let anything bad happen to us, not as long as we're under her care. And, besides, you heal pretty fast. I doubt any of the injuries you get will be life-threatening.”
Even though he wasn't about to admit it, it wasn't his injuries that he was worried about.
“I just wonder if maybe the training will be too intense.”
“Relax, Inuyasha. It'll be intense, but necessary.”
As Inuyasha was about to argue, a flash of light appeared behind them. The two turned to see Yori standing beside the Goshinboku.
“I told you I would come once the sun rose. Now, we must hurry and begin your training.”
Both bowed to their teacher and said, “Yes, Mistress Yori.”
“Good. First off, I am going to allow you to train together, seeing as you're already friends and work well with each other. However, there is a catch. To work together, you must first perform a power exchange.
“A power exchange?” both asked in unison.
“Yes. The sacred power exchange is the ultimate display of trust. If the two of you are to train together, you must fully trust and believe in one another. The only that can occur is by each of you exchanging a bit of your own power with the other's.”
Inuyasha looked at Kagome, wearing a matching expression of utter confusion.
“Mistress Yori, how exactly do we exchange powers?”
“A good question, young hanyou. The power exchange is an intense, but necessary procedure. The concept is simple, but actually doing it is the most difficult part. To start, you must face one another and clasp your hands together.”
Embarrassing as it was, the two followed their mistress's orders.
“Good. Next, you must bring your power out. Feel it flowing through your fingertips, from the top of your head to the soles of your feet.”
Inuyasha closed his eyes and concentrated, he imagined his mother's power running through his veins. He imagined himself holding the power in the palm of his hand, releasing it at will. Suddenly, a surge of energy rushed through him. He opened his eyes and saw that he was glowing a deep red. In front of him was Kagome, glowing pink.
“Perfect. You have brought your powers out at full force. Now, there is only one step left, and probably, the most difficult. To exchange your power, you must become as one. You must forget everything around you, think only of each other. Block out all other thoughts and feelings and combine into one great mass of power.”
Silence surrounded them. Neither was sure of how to `become one' as it were. An idea was floating through Inuyasha's head, but it was too bold to attempt, even for him.
“Hurry now. If you don't begin the exchange within a few seconds, you might never be able to finish the ritual.”
Realizing that he had no choice, Inuyasha tested his theory. Quickly he pushed himself closer to Kagome, watching as red began to meld slightly with pink. Without any hesitation, his lips came crashing into hers, the light around them intensifying. Kagome, at first shocked, now returned the passion full-force, her light dancing with red. As they began to pull away, they watched their powers change. There were no longer two colors, but one. A deep magenta surrounded them, glowing brighter than the newly risen sun. Then, the light faded, colors separating and returning to their rightful owners.
All the while, Yori stood by, beaming proudly. “That was certainly a most unorthodox method of exchange, but it worked. Now, if they can keep that passion alive in battle, I believe there will be no enemy they cannot defeat.”
