InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Memories Last Forever ❯ Sirijou and Yoshiru ( Chapter 2 )
Chapter Two: Sirijou and Yoshiru
Inuyasha woke us all up bright and early.
"Do we HAVE to leave so early?" I yawned, not wanting to move.
"No, not if you want those nasty snake demons to destroy this village. They're still after you. Let's run into them somewhere else, so we dont put all of these people in danger.." He said, glaring down at me. I winced, remembering those stupid worms.
'They're still after me, those jerks. We really should've gotten rid of them last time...'
A few weeks before, we ran into a small gang of Snake demons. They were bothering a group of humans and well.... I didn't like that, so I attacked. They weren't very easy to beat, though it seemed like they'd die easily. After fighting for a while, I found their weak spot and I destroyed their leader. So now..... They're all after me. We didn't finish them off then because there were so many of them, and not all were keen to get revenge. I refused to hurt the innocent, so we fled and a small group's been chasing after us for about a week now.. Those smelly, slimy, mud green monsters were so annoying. Inuyasha thought I shouldn't have interfered and he won't let me forget that they're still after us.
Inuyasha kicked my foot lightly, "Are we leaving or not?" I sighed and nodded. I reluctantly got up and started packing. Kagome wasn't eager to leave either; consequently, we both took our time getting ready. We set out towards the eastern mountains. Rumor was that a giant Hog demon somehow got a few jewel shards and had made a new hobby of eating people. We'd save the day again and earn a few more jewel shards as well. I glanced back at Kagome. Her and Inuyasha still weren't speaking to each other, so Kagome was riding on Kirara with Sango. She decided not to take her bicycle this time. I kept pace with Inuyasha and tried to bring him to his senses.
"Inuyasha, why not try to make up with Kagome?" I asked, looking back at Kagome. "It couldn't possibly hurt, you know. This does make her sa-" Inuyasha pushed me off the trail.
He looked down at me, "Quit, you're not helpi-"
"SIT!"
Inuyasha slammed into the ground.
'He's too stubborn for his own good...'
Miroku helped me up, "You know, Inuyasha, starting quarrels with Kagome is more then enough. You don't have to be rude to Sukai too. Infact, you should be nice to both of them. They have helped you numerous times and... they do a lot for you. Yes, we know the only reason you're so rude to Kagome is because you love her, but still.."
"SHUT UP!!!" Inuyasha was finally able to move again. He jumped at Miroku, earning a nice lump on the head from the monk's staff.
'So pathetic...'
Shippo interrupted, "Would you two quit?" Everyone stopped and we continued on in silence. We finally made it to the village that was having problems with the hog demon. There we spoke with the villagers and learned what we needed to know to pursue him. We left shortly afterward. The sooner we got this over with, the better.

We finally arrived at the malodorous cavern where the malevolent, ignorant beast was said to live . It was colossal and seemed quite foreboding. The aroma emitting from it was nauseating. Human bones were strewn all over the entrance, blood was everywhere. It added to the already sickening smell and the unfriendly geography. Inside, it was pitch black, not a soul could be seen. "Inuyasha…" I stumbled on a rock, the smell was making me sick. "Are we actually going in there?" I coughed. He flexed his claws, a smirk set on his face.
`So arrogant…'
"Of course." He looked at me and I could see in his eyes that he was beginning to feel sick as well. "Why wouldn't we? A `lil stench wont keep us from the jewel shard." I glanced over at Miroku, Sango, and Kagome. The awful smell wasn't bothering them at all.
"Lucky humans…" I muttered under my breath.
`Inuyasha wont let Kagome go in…he already persuaded Sango to stay too… I'm going no matter what he says..'
"Sukai, it would be better if you stayed here with Kagome and Sango." The familiar voice of the amorous monk rang through my head like thunder. I covered my ears. The smell was making all my other senses sharpen, it was very annoying..
"You don't have to be so loud you know… and I'm not staying here. I'm going with you." I glared into his eyes. "You can't force me to stay behind." Miroku gently pushed my shoulder, making me fall over.
"Your nose is even more sensitive than Inuyasha's. You can barely stand, let alone fight. Besides the smell will be stronger inside and Kagome and Sango could need your assistance." Miroku stated, helping me up.
"Feh," I snorted, looking the other way. I gasped and clamped my hands over my mouth quickly. Everyone except for Inuyasha and myself fell over laughing.
`Oh my god!!! I sounded just like him…'
I sat there, astonished. A blush slowly rose to my cheeks.
`I actually said that!!!! Why did I though..? I don't remember ever saying "feh" before…'
I was suddenly pulled away from my thoughts when Inuyasha roughly pulled me to my feet.
`I was so surprised that I fell again…'
"If you're going to come, hurry up. We don't need to stand here forever." Inuyasha barked, walking ahead. I recovered quickly and followed him.
"Be careful!" I heard Kagome and turned around.
"We will," I smiled.
"Try not to stay in there too long, both you and Inuyasha will eventually pass out from the odor…" Sango glanced at the moody hanyou as she said this. Miroku lit a torch and we cautiously stepped into the cave.
We walked forward, alert, all our senses working hard because of the lack of light. Few sounds could be heard, our breathing echoed slightly and our footsteps made small clicking noises. The wonderful light behind us slowly disappeared. The only light was that of the torch. I looked around, we all did. This place was spooky and it felt like it was hiding zillions of secrets we didn't want to find, yet needed to discover. The constant dripping sound along with the stench was beginning to drive me crazy. Inuyasha suddenly stopped and I ran into him. As a result I fell and landed on my butt.
`Why am I the one who always falls..?'
"It's coming," Inuyasha's voice was quiet, but it echoed throughout the large cavern. I perked my ears up and listened. Something was coming…something enormous and smelly.
`Is THAT the hog demon?!? If it is, it's huge….and it has an advantage. This is it's domain and at the speed it's traveling, it's obvious that being in the dark doesn't effect it at all….'
I leapt up and jumped at Miroku, knocking him over. Just as we hit the ground a giant claw zoomed through the air, exactly where Miroku was standing moments before. Suddenly the cavern was filled with an intense, blindingly bright light. I shielded my eyes and searched around aimlessly.
`Where did that light come from…'

"I hope they're alright." Kagome said nervously, glancing into the hog demon's domicile, where Inuyasha, Sukai, and Miroku departed nearly 30 minutes earlier.
"They've found the demon," Sango replied, petting Kirara. She looked over at the cave entrance. "All we can do is wait." She sighed.

Inuyasha flung himself at the giant beast. Miroku was still trying to recover from the blast of light, and I was still searching around for the source of the bright light. I saw the hog demon, it had four jewel shards.
`The light's not coming from the demon…'
I heard a noise and looked behind me quickly, catching a glimpse of something small running away. As it left, the light dimmed a bit.
`Is it coming from that..? What is that…'
Just then one of the demon's claws shot out of the shadows and grabbed me, nearly crushing my ribs. The small creature I saw running away jumped out from his hiding place and landed on the claw. The light was coming from it.
`Its body seems to be nothing but a ball of light…'
It bowed, "Hello, I am Sirijou, the ever-popular light imp." He smiled, showing needlepoint teeth. "I see you've come for the jewel shards imbedded in Yoshiru's shoulders. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but they aren't for sale and you cant have them. He smiled again and climbed up onto the hog's head.
`So…the beasts name is Yoshiru…and he's Sirijou's pet..lovely..'
The claw griping me tightened slightly as Inuyasha charged at its owner. "I don't care who or what you are, those jewel shards are ours'!" Inuyasha roared, slicing Yoshiru to pieces.
Sirijou chuckled. "You think THAT will stop him? Your meager attempt was pathetic. I heard you were a tough adversary, but I see you're no more then a mere half-demon who doesn't know what he's getting himself into." He chuckled again then turned to me, "You, however, are quite terrifying. I've heard many things about you, Rosuto Shikyo Mitsukai. It's obvious you don't know your powers though, so I wont pester you with them now." He grasped my chin lightly, "such wonderful powers and such a fair face, you're one I'll have to keep." Yoshiru reformed and was attempting to grab Inuyasha with one of his other claws. Inuyasha dodged easily and this made the beast even more frantic.
"Lay a finger on her and you're dead, Sirijou." Inuyasha was desperately trying to hack Yoshiru into pieces.
`He has jewel shards….they give him the power to keep regenerating..'
"Inuyasha!!! Aim for his shoulders! That's where the jewel shards ar-" was cut off when Sirijou struck me across the face. Inuyasha froze, apparently he had heard me. A few moments later Yoshiru was nothing but bones. Inuyasha had cut the jewel shards away and defeated him.. I was in a daze though, so I wasn't exactly sure what was happening.
`I cant move..'
I came to my senses and looked around for Sirijou. He was standing beside me and I.. I was trapped in what appeared to be a giant ball of light.
`What is this..'
Inuyasha's voice abruptly interrupted my thoughts. "Iron reaver soul stealer!" his claws tried to penetrate the orb of light, but the only result was me getting a rather painful shock as the claws and the orb made contact. Sirijou floated above the ball. He seemed to think this was all very humorous and had a big grin on his face.
"You may have killed Yoshiru, but that's a small price to pay for something as precious as her. You'll have to defeat me before that orb disappears and if you continue trying to puncture it like that, you'll kill her. I glared at Sirijou for a moment, and then I realized something. Miroku was missing..
`Wait…where's Miroku?!? He was over there…'
I peeked over to where I last saw the monk, he wasn't there.
`Where is he…surely he didn't leave us…'
Suddenly the orb turned a deep blue and shocked me. I cried out in pain before being dragged into unconsciousness. Miroku knelt beside the orb. He was chanting and he gingerly poked it with his staff. That had caused it to turn blue. He continued chanting for a few moments. Then he slammed the staff into the orb making it disappear completely. This surprised Sirijou and distracted him for a moment, giving Inuyasha the chance to attack. They battled for a few minutes and Inuyasha won, as usual. I awoke slowly and looked around, my vision hazy.
"Feh, that wasn't too hard." Inuyasha snorted. He glanced over at me. "Are you okay? What was he talking about when he said something about your powers..?"
"I don't know.." I got up and dusted myself off a little.
"We should probably go now. Sango and Kagome are probably worried and both of you are weak and tired."
"Speak for yourself, Miroku. I'm not tired at all and I'm NOT weak." Inuyasha said, folding his arms over his chest and heading towards the exit.
"The smell is bothering him a lot…" I whispered to Miroku.
"Yep, but he's too stubborn to admit it." Miroku replied. We followed Inuyasha, Miroku helped me, Inuyasha may be able to ignore his pain, but the two shocks I got really had an effect on me. We were soon welcomed by the warmth and light from the sun. I handed the jewel shards to Kagome after Inuyasha and Miroku had told her and Sango all about our wonderful meeting with the two demons.
"Naraku probably had something to do with it. Sirijou claimed to know several things about me." I sighed and sat on a rock.
"Let's stay here for the night" Miroku said, yawning. "We're all tired and a little rest wont hurt." He looked over at Inuyasha who was already half-asleep, sitting against a tree.
"Sounds good to me." Kagome said eyeing the hot springs her and Sango discovered earlier. They dragged me off to the hot springs with them after voicing several threats to Miroku incase he decided to peek. He looked genuinely appalled. His fake innocence was always amusing. I sighed.
`Oh well.. I guess I'll have to rest later… maybe the warm water will help..'
Kagome and Sango demanded to hear of the day's adventure again and I told them with remarkable detail. They stayed silent the while I was telling them about the fight and the orb.
When I mentioned the part about Sirijou knowing so many things about me, Sango interrupted. "Do you think he knew any of the villagers? While you, Inuyasha, and Miroku were in the cave, an elderly man came to us and asked if he could have some water… he stayed for a while and talked." She paused and looked at Kagome, "He mentioned your first name, and a village after a while. He said that there was a village far south that was rumored to have several jewel shards, and that it was ruled by a royal family. He said he didn't recall the name, but he knew the youngest of their children was named Rosuto. That child went crazy, nearly destroyed the entire village, and disappeared a while back; no one knows what happened to him.. Or her."
`No…not now..'
"Sukai, could that child be you?" Kagome asked, looking at me questioningly. I looked away, my eyes shimmering with tears.
`Why did this have to come up now.. "
"Yes.. that child is me…" I replied.
`That was years ago.. Father.. was always making me train with my elder brothers. It was nothing but play till I reached adolescence, then they let their true nature shine through. They were suddenly vicious, brutal when I sparred with them. They were all full demons.. except the youngest of the three, he was also half.. he was just like them though…just as vicious. I eventually transformed when they attacked. It was always three against one. After a while, I'd lose myself completely, go on a wild rampage, and pass out. Then I'd wake up days later and not remember a thing. One night, I didn't transform.. and I beat all three of them. They didn't like that at all though, and… they killed her..mother.. they killed her to get back at me. Even Hinoko helped, and she was his mother as well.. I went crazy that night and destroyed nearly everything. After that I fled…'
I bit my lip and held back the tears that threatened to fall. Now wasn't the time to fall apart..
"This is a sensitive subject, isn't it.. Sukai? Maybe we should talk more about it when you're ready.." Sango said, looking at me with full understanding in her eyes. Talking about her family was painful as well. The warm spring water suddenly wasn't warm anymore, but ice cold.
"I think I should get some rest now. I'll make sure our lovable monk doesn't peek." I smiled and left the springs.
