Author’s Note:
Happy New Year!  We’re still alive! HAH! Also, thank you so much to everyone who reviewed and asked to be a beta!  I’m still deciding if I should go for it, but thanks nonetheless for volunteering.  I appreciate it.  You guys really don’t know how much it means to me.  Seeing a new review really makes me happy, it’s like I get to hear how my story makes people happy.  Thank you really!  They make me keep going.  On another note, I don’t think you guys are going to be very happy with this chapter.  Not that it’s a bad chapter!  But it was a hard one to write, that’s for sure.
DISCLAIMER: I don’t own Inuyasha, nor do I take credit for Romiko Takahashi’s genius.

ÒThat wasn’t very smart.Ó
Narek leaned his head back against the wall, watching a group of women bargain their way past a long line.  Tall, thin, and scantily clad, the girls gave the bouncer a smile that implied just a hint of naughtiness.  The stony faced bouncer stood in front of the door like a stubborn bull protecting its territory, but, after giving the girls a little nod, he stepped out of the way, letting them into the roaring club.
ÒTell me again what exactly possessed you to mentally manipulate Lucy to letting Kagome out?  Hey.  Stop trying to pretend to ignore me.Ó
Narek kept his eye on the crowd across the street.  The people who were left waiting in front of the bouncer waved their arms angrily after the girls as they disappeared into the loud room.  ÒI heard you, Chase.Ó  Narek said.
ÒWell, if you knew what you did was stupid, then why the hell did you call me out here?Ó
Narek ignored Chase.  A girl with black hair, which was pulled up in a bun that let a few curls fall to frame her face, walked up to the bouncer.  Narek caught himself staring at her legs.  ÒNot nearly as lovely as hers.Ó
ÒExcuse me?Ó
ÒNever mind.Ó Said Narek.  The girl waved at the bouncer.  The man took one look at her legs and let her pass into the club.  ÒI want you to watch over our three guests.  Lucy won’t let any of them leave.Ó
ÒWhich means I’m going to have my hands full.Ó Chase sighed.
Narek leaned away from the wall, turning his body so that he stood directly in front of Chase. ÒContact me if you notice any strange developments, particularly with Lilly and Kagome’s mate.Ó
ÒYou suspect something?Ó
ÒYes. Lucy won’t give us any straight answers, and I’m not a very patient man.Ó
ÒYou’re going to disappear.Ó  Chase slapped a hand against the concrete wall.  ÒAnother stupid move.Ó
ÒI’m well aware that Lucy would love nothing more then to pull out my good eye as punishment for manipulating and disobeying her.Ó Narek looked up, squinting at the smog filled sky.  ÒThere is a piece of the puzzle that is missing, and, if Lucy is not willing to give me a clue as to where it is, I have no choice but to seek it myself.Ó
Chase slid his hand down the wall.  ÒAnd what about the danger?  Can you handle those creatures on your own?  You’re not a invincible, Narek, no matter how cunning you are.Ó
ÒLook at them.Ó Narek cocked his head in the direction of the crowd across the street.  ÒThey have no idea that the club they’re about to walk into is run by demons like us.  Are we just as ignorant?  Walking around, thinking we’re alone and safe?Ó
Chase looked.  Nightwalkers blocked the door, pretending to be bouncers.  Yet, any non-human would know they weren’t looking at the lined up people with indifference.  There was a hunger in their eyes that only one of their own kind would recognize.
ÒThere is no stopping you is there?Ó  Narek shook his head.
ÒLucy will know where you’ve been and what you’ve been up to.  She’ll find out.Ó
ÒShe will not stop me.  There are too many other things that require her attention.Ó
ÒI still say this is a very stupid idea, Narek.Ó
ÒDefinately.Ó  Came Xander’s voice as he walked down the street toward them.
ÒWhat are you doing here?Ó  Chase barked.  ÒYou’re supposed to be watching our guests.Ó
Xander rolled his eyes.  ÒLucy can handle them just fine with her freaky mind traps.  I have a bone to pick with you.Ó  Xander pointed at Narek.
ÒOh?Ó
ÒDon’t ‘oh’ me!  Where the fuck have you been for the last week?  I have shit that you REALLY need to hear, asshole.Ó
Chase stepped in front of Xander.  ÒYou sure are being polite for a change.Ó
Xander ignored Chase’s irritated look.  His eyes were fixed on at Narek.  ÒRemember how those freaks are giving blood to kids?  Well, I did some incognito work, spoke to some kids.  Turns out they don’t become zombies right off the bat. It takes a couple days.  For some kids it’s three days, for some it’s a week.  But each one of those kids was really into it on the first day and they want more as soon as they can think of it.  Running around, lifting heavy shit, I would have thought they were newborn nightwalkers, if it weren’t for the fact that they start growing horns after the first day.  But anyway, almost all the kids I managed to get to, before they lose their minds at least, kept mentioning the same thing.Ó
ÒAnd what’s that?Ó Narek asked.
Xander bared his teeth at him.  ÒOnly that all of them seem to mention your name.Ó
Chase looked at Narek.  The accused man only rolled his shoulders and looked at the two of nightwalkers in front of him with complete indifference.  ÒInteresting.Ó He said.  ÒAre you sure it’s my name they mention?Ó
ÒYou better not be fucking around with me asshole.  When those kids start getting all freaky, when they start losing their minds, they start chanting the same thing over and over.  It’s either your name or something that sure as hell sounds like it.Ó  Xander swayed side to side, opening his mouth and moaning. ÒNureg, Norak, Narekoooooh.Ó
ÒI do not share my blood with humans.Ó  Narek said flatly.
ÒAre you sure of what you heard?  From the way you so wonderfully acted, it sounds like those kids were just chanting some strangled noise that just starts with the letter ‘N.’Ó
ÒI know what I heard Chase!  It’s the only thing they say when they start going crazy. First they say it sometimes, and every time they do they get this weird dazed look on their face, and then they say it over and over.  And believe me, that’s when you have to hightail it out of there because that’s when the kids start looking at you like you’re a piece of meat, literally.  It’s always the same sound.Ó  Xander pointed at Narek.
ÒWell, now I know where to start my investigation.Ó Narek said.
ÒIf you’re hiding something-Ó
ÒXander, even if those kids were chanting his name, perhaps it’s a name the enemy has brainwashed into their minds.Ó  Chase said.
ÒI do have many enemies.Ó Narek smiled.
ÒWhat the fuck are you planning?Ó
ÒPerhaps it’s time I revisit an old enemy.Ó

Lilliana was awake the long before Kagome descended the stairs.  As Kagome neared, she noticed several books on the coffee table.  Lilliana was paging through one of them, with a look of frustration so intense that Kagome was worried she was about to rip the book apart.  ÒUgh, there is nothing useful in that library.Ó  She huffed, throwing the book on the table and leaning back on the couch, glaring at her knees.
Kagome sat down on the couch opposite hers and brought her knees up to her chest.  ÒI could have told you that.Ó
ÒI wish I had access to the library in Lucy’s head.Ó  Lilliana made a gesture of opening a can with her hands.  ÒI bet there a loads of secrets hidden in there.Ó
Kagome looked around the room.  They were alone.  She could sense Lucy pacing upstairs yet it was strange that Chase, Xander, and Narek were not in the house.  There had always been at least one of them close by, keeping an eye on her.  During her imprisonment there, they had alternated the role of being her prison warden.  Where were they?
ÒHave you been alone all night?Ó  Kagome asked.
ÒYes.Ó  Lilliana said, reaching for another book.
Surprised, Kagome stood and walked over to the door that led to the hall.  But the closer she came to it, the stranger she felt.  At first, it was a slight nervous tingling in her heart, and then it was a sense of dread that seemed to make it hard to breathe.  As soon as she reached for the doorknob, fear suddenly slammed against her chest so hard, it was almost crippling.  The moment Kagome touched the knob, she was filled with panic.  She ran from the door and back into the living room, panting.
ÒWhat?  What was that?Ó
Lilliana looked up from the new book she was reading.  ÒYou tried to leave didn’t you?Ó
ÒYou felt it too?Ó
Lilliana nodded.  ÒI think it’s some kind of trick to keep us from leaving.  I tried three times.  The third time had me panicking so much I was in tears.  I bet it’s one of Lucy’s tricks.Ó
Kagome groaned.  ÒWhy would she assign the men to keep us well behaved when she had that trick up her sleeve?Ó
ÒDon’t know, don’t care.  I’ve tried all morning to pick her brains to get her to let some kind of clue slip, but she’s always on her guard.  Plus, the little wretch seems unable to be in the same room with me for more then ten minutes.Ó  Lilliana made a face of disgust.  ÒThe feeling is mutual.Ó
Kagome sat back down.  ÒI noticed.  Instant hate between you two.  I wonder why?Ó
ÒI never liked people who know something but aren’t honest enough to tell it.Ó  Lilliana huffed and went back to studying her books without noticing the change that her statement had caused in Kagome.
Kagome pulled her legs closer to her body again.  Honesty.  She was beginning to hate that word.  It had been a week since Narek had brought Inuyasha back.  The first night, Inuyasha had thrashed awake for just a moment before going back to sleep, and he had been unconscious since.  During that time, she had been wondering around, trying to distract herself by helping Lilliana attempt to wheedle information out of Lucy.  Researching was another pastime that Kagome had found herself doing.  Yet, not matter how many times Kagome tried to keep herself from thinking too much, she couldn’t stop thinking about Inuyasha.  Worst of all was that she knew that it was only a matter of time.  Kagome would have to answer those questions whether she liked it or not.  She knew he wasn’t going to react nicely.  Inuyashas hatred for Narek was no secret.  To tell him that she had relations with a woman who was technically Narek’s superior would anger him in ways she couldn’t imagine.  She was sure of it.  Not to mention he wouldn’t be very happy about the little deal she’d made with the bastard.
ÒI could lie again.Ó  She said.
ÒAbout what?Ó  Lilliana asked.
ÒOh, uh, never mind.  Just thinking out loud.Ó
Lilliana closed the book she had just opened.  ÒI hope you’re not thinking about doing something stupid again Kagome.Ó
ÒLike?Ó Kagome asked, hoping Lilliana wasn’t aware of her thoughts.
ÒLike making another deal with Narek.Ó
ÒI told you, I didn’t have a choice!Ó
ÒI know.  But I don’t like it.  I don’t trust him.  It takes all my energy not to strangle him every time I see him.Ó  Lilliana muttered.  ÒProbably the only person in this house I dislike more then Lucy.Ó  Lilliana’s face took on a pinkish color.
Kagome wondered if Inuyasha’s reaction to her secrets would be as tame as Lilliana’s.  She stood and walked back upstairs, trying not to think about what Lilliana had reminded her of.  Yet the more she tried not to think about it, the more she imagined Inuyasha’s reaction, especially when it came to the little detail of Narek’s favor.  What kind of favor would he ask of her anyway?  Kagome wondered if there was a way she could get out of helping him.  She was honor bound to do what he asked of her, but Kagome really didn’t like the idea of owing him anything.  Yet, she was sure that had she not agreed, Inuyasha would have bled to death.
ÒDamn it!Ó
Kagome jumped, wondering if Lucy had just read her mind.  There was a sound of breaking glass coming from down the hall.  She gasped when the door that led to Lucy’s room was blown off its hinges.  The door hit the hallway wall and slid pathetically onto the floor.  Kagome crept toward the open entrance, staring at the slashes that decorated the broken door.
ÒHow!  How could they know? How are they blocking me
A chair flew out of the door and Kagome ducked when it bounced off the wall and flew by her head.
ÒCould it be that they opened it?  It’s not possible; anyone who would have known is dead!Ó
Kagome peeked into the room.  Lucy was standing in the middle of a huge mess, panting.  ÒNo, it’s just not possible.Ó  Lucy shook her head violently.  ÒI made sure! I took care of it personally!  The last one was killed ten years ago!  Why would it reappear after all this time!  And that insolent boy had to just up and run after tricking me!Ó
Lucy ran toward a desk and slammed her fist hard on the surface.  The wood groaned against the impact, splitting in half right down the middle.  ÒAaaaaaah!  Damn it!Ó
Lucy turned around, her eyes darting around the room as though she were searching for another thing to break, when she noticed Kagome.  ÒWhat are you staring at?Ó  She hissed.
Under normal circumstances, Kagome would have backed away and left but curiosity, and a sense of satisfaction that came from seeing Lucy so frustrated, made her open her mouth.  ÒHaving some trouble keeping your subordinates in line?Ó  She said coolly.
ÒExcuse me?Ó  Lucy straightened her back, and fisted her hands at her sides.
ÒIt’s not nice when someone does something you don’t want them to do is it?Ó  Kagome continued.  ÒCan’t keep Narek on his leash?  If you can’t trust your own subordinates, maybe you should ‘take care of’ them as well.Ó
ÒAre you doubting his loyalty to me?Ó  Lucy’s eyes became wide.  She threw her head back and laughed.  It was a humorless sound full of unquestionable dominance.  The air of superiority and power Kagome had felt over Lucy shattered at that reaction.  Why hadn’t that angered her?
Lucy’s face was serious and bored when she looked back at Kagome.  ÒHe may not be under my complete control, and he may have mentally hypnotized me into a moment of weakness so that I would be angry enough to let you out with him, but know this: Narek would never turn against me.Ó
ÒYou sound so sure about that.Ó
ÒOh but I am.Ó  Lucy folded her arms behind her back.  Completely composed, she walked around Kagome.
ÒAnd what is that?Ó  Kagome asked, suddenly nervous as she turned her head to keep track of Lucy.
Lucy tilted her head to the side, and Kagome had the feeling that she was being looked down upon even though Lucy was a full head shorter then her.  ÒI have something Narek wants that only I can give him.Ó
Kagome felt as though Lucy had just shown her a precious item and then hidden it, and she didn’t want to go forward until she found it.  What could Narek possibly want when he already had so much power?  She was about to question Lucy about it, but Lucy was already heading out the door.  Before she left however, she paused and looked back into the room.  ÒThank you, Kagome.  I feel much better.Ó  Then, with a triumphant smile, she added, ÒThink about leaving this house while I’m gone, and you’ll wish you were never born.Ó
Kagome stood alone in the broken room feeling nauseous.  She growled, and threw her hands into the air furiously, but it didn’t do anything to make the feeling of humiliation disappear.  Wanting suddenly to put as much space between herself and anything that reminded her of Lucy, Kagome stomped out of the room.  She walked toward the balcony, wanting desperately for some fresh air, for something that came from outside her prison.
As Kagome neared the window, she suddenly felt something odd.  Her stomach felt as though it was twisting on itself.  Kagome took a step back, and she felt a little better.  Confused, she took a step forward, and the uncomfortable feeling started again.  ÒDamn it Lucy.Ó  She muttered.  ÒI bet she has every exit in this house covered by this weird spell.Ó
Kagome dug her fingertips into her scalp.  ÒThat bitch.Ó  She walked back to her room, punching the wall as she went and enjoying the pain that came into her knuckles from the impact as though it were a release of her violent anger.  But she was so caught up in her swirling thoughts of frustration and embarrassment that she didn’t notice the door to her room open.  By the time Kagome realized, it was already too late.
She was standing directly in front of Inuyasha.  All the fury Kagome felt suddenly morphed into apprehension as she stared up into his face, speechless.  She was afraid to move, or speak, her mind suddenly empty.  He looked down at her as though he couldn’t believe he was seeing her and Kagome watched as his hand extended toward her in slow motion.  Before she knew it, her cheek was pressed against his bare chest and Kagome’s first instinct was to push him away.  Images of how his chest looked a week ago, broken and bleeding rushed into her thoughts and she was gripped with a real fear of hurting him.  But, before she could break free of him, he pushed her away, staring down accusingly at her face.
ÒWhere the hell have you been?  What the hell happened to you?Ó
ÒI-Ó Kagome began, but the words disappeared from her mind as soon as she had opened her mouth.  What was she supposed to say?  He touched her face and Kagome started.  ÒSorry.Ó  He pulled his hand back.  ÒDoes it hurt?Ó  He pointed to his temple and Kagome knew he was talking about the tiny, pink scar on her temple; it was the only scar that had remained from the first time she was attacked by slaves.
ÒNo it doesn’t.Ó  Kagome pressed a palm timidly against his chest.  His skin was smoother and harder now then it was when Narek had first healed him.  She breathed out.  ÒGood, you’ve gotten better.Ó
Inuyasha grabbed hold of her wrist.  Pulling her back toward him.  Kagome ran her finger over his chest, feeling him suck in air as she did.  She never wanted to see that kind of injury on him again.  ÒMind telling me where we are and what’s been gong on?Ó  He asked.
Kagome bit her lip.  For the past week she had watched him sleep peacefully.  This serene, boyish face he wore while sleeping was replaced by a wary and critical expression that made her nervous.  ÒWell we-Ó
She felt his upper body tense up.  Then he let her go and walked down the hall and paused in front of a room.  Kagome followed him, realizing that he entered Lucy’s room.  ÒThis room smells like him, that fucker!Ó  Inuyasha rounded on Kagome.  ÒIt was Narek, wasn’t it?  I can smell his stench all over this place!Ó  He stomped forward and grabbed her shoulders.  ÒIs this where you were for two months?Ó
Kagome swallowed and then nodded.  ÒDid he do anything to you? Were you hurt?Ó  He demanded and, without waiting, started to inspect here and there, lifting up her arm and feeling around her waist for bruises.  Fearing that he might actually remove her clothes to search for damage, Kagome wriggled out of his hold and took a few steps back.  ÒNo, he didn’t.  I haven’t been hurt, not physically anyway.Ó
He breathed out.  ÒGood.  Why the hell would that fucker kidnap you and keep you here?Ó
Kagome sighed.  It was best to tell him the truth.  ÒBecause he was ordered to.Ó
ÒThe king is dead, who the fuck does he take orders from now?Ó
ÒHer name is Lucy.  And she told Xander and Chase to kidnap me.  The four of them have been keeping me here.Ó
Inuyasha growled.  ÒThose bastards.Ó  He grabbed hold of her wrist, dragging her out of the room.  ÒWe have to get out of here and back to the family.Ó
ÒWe can’t leave.Ó  Kagome said, trying to pull back as Inuyasha hauled her toward the window that led to the balcony.
ÒAnd why the fuck not?Ó  Kagome opened her mouth to explain but she didn’t have to.  The closer Inuyasha pulled her toward the window, the slower his steps became and the more his face twisted in pain.  ÒWhat?Ó
Kagome felt it: the unsettling feeling of paranoia and panic crept up on her the closer they got to their exit.  She pulled her hand away from Inuyasha and stepped back.  He kept going until he couldn’t take much more, jumping back, sweating and panting, his face pale.  ÒWhat the hell is that?Ó
ÒIt’s one of Lucy’s tricks to keep up from leaving.Ó Kagome said.
ÒRight.  Like that’s going to keep me here.Ó  He walked down the hall.  ÒMove to the side Kagome.Ó
When he reached the other end of the hall, he turned and ran toward the window, intent on breaking through which his shoulder.  ÒInuyasha don’t!  You just healed!Ó
He ran forward, but his steps lost intensity and the closer he got, the slower his movements became.  Then he skidded to a halt three feet away from the window.  This time, Kagome could see tears in his eyes.  He stepped away.  ÒWhat kind of trick is this?Ó  He said, rubbing his face with his arm.  ÒI’ve never heard of a nightwalker ability that repels you by making you feel paranoid.Ó
ÒAre you okay?Ó  Kagome said, pulling his hand away from his face.
ÒNo, I’m not.Ó  Inuyasha clenched his teeth.  ÒThe last thing I remember is being ripped apart by those things and then I wake up here.Ó  He grabbed her shoulders.  ÒWhat happened after I passed out?  Why are we back here?Ó
ÒNarek tricked Lucy into letting me out for a moment.  When he disappeared and I tried to run back to the family house, I felt that was being followed, and that’s when I ran into you.Ó
ÒI remember now.  I was out looking for clues as to where you and Lilliana were, I didn’t expect to run right into you.Ó  Inuyasha sat down on the floor, leaning his head against the hallway wall.  ÒSo what happened after all that?Ó
Kagome twisted the skin on her index finger.  ÒNarek came and drove Tsubaki and the slaves off.Ó
ÒSlaves?Ó
Kagome explained everything that Lucy had told her.  Inuyasha gave her a disgusted look when she told him what slaves really were and how they got to be that way but made no other comment.  When Inuyasha questioned her about why Narek hadn’t killed him, Kagome shivered.  But she told him the truth.  When she was done, Inuyasha touched his chest in horror.  Then, to Kagome’s shock, he dug his claws into his chest, slicing a few lines of red from his pectorals to his abdomen.
ÒWhat are you doing!Ó  Kagome grabbed his arms, pinning them to the wall on either sides of his head.
ÒLet go, I don’t want that shit’s healing power!  I’ll heal back on my own!Ó
ÒYour skin was-Ó Kagome gasped.  She forced the images of his injury out of her mind.  ÒIt was horrible!  You almost bled to death.Ó
ÒI don’t care!Ó  Inuyasha struggled.
ÒAre you crazy?Ó  Kagome said as she squeezed his wrists to keep him from breaking free.
ÒOh, I’m crazy?  I’m not the one who made a deal with the enemy!Ó
ÒI had no choice!  You were bleeding out buckets and I was injured!  There was no way I would have escaped!Ó
Inuyasha growled.  ÒYou should have left me behind.  Better then being saved by that fucker!Ó
ÒNo way.  I couldn’t just let you die there!Ó
Inuyasha growled.  ÒFine, I’m alive.  But I don’t like this deal you’ve made with Narek.Ó  He groaned.  ÒKagome, how did you end up in this situation in the first place?Ó
ÒWhat do you mean?Ó
ÒWhy would this Lucy kidnap you in the first place?  Because you’re fourth generation?Ó
Kagome jerked away from him, standing.  He stood up and looked at her suspiciously.  ÒI don’t like you’re reaction.Ó
ÒI don’t know why I’m so important, she refuses to tell me.Ó  She replied truthfully.
ÒYou didn’t answer my question.Ó
ÒWhat question?Ó
ÒDid Lucy kidnap you because you are fourth generation?Ó
ÒYes, okay.Ó  Kagome huffed.  ÒShe kidnapped me because I’m fourth generation.  She kept telling me that I’m too important and that the family can’t protect me as well as she can, saying it’s too dangerous for the enemy to get their hands on me but not telling me why, asking me if I feel strange over the years and-Ó
Ò‘Over the years.’  What?Ó
Kagome covered her mouth with her hands and that was all Inuyasha needed to know.  He stomped around her and said, ÒTell me the truth.Ó
ÒI-Ó
ÒNow .Ó
It was the hardest thing she had ever done.  He didn’t comment when she told him about her meeting with Lucy ten years ago and the meetings they had over the years, nor about the small conversation they had the day she had returned to the family house.  Yet, as Inuyasha listened to her, the scowl on his face became more and more vicious.
ÒSo you’re telling me that not only were you kidnapped by a woman you knew and were suspicious of for ten years, who you didn’t bother telling me about, but you also made a deal with that shit?Ó  Inuyasha stomped around in a circle, looking anywhere but her.
ÒOh, real smart Kagome.Ó  He threw his hands into the air, wringing his fists.  ÒYou would think all that danger we had gone through ten years ago would teach you to trust the family, but no.Ó  He faced her.  ÒNice to know you don’t trust me as much as I thought.  And here I was, sitting there, worried sick out of my mind that you could have been dead with your heart eaten by those things and you were just here the whole time!  While I was going batshit crazy blaming myself for not being able to protect you, you were here enjoying time with an old secret friend.Ó
ÒShe’s not my secret friend!Ó
ÒYeah, a friend wouldn’t kidnap you and keep you in the dark without letting you get word to your family.  How could you not think to tell us-me about her?Ó
ÒShe didn’t seem like a threat at the time!  And I thought you wouldn’t let me be free if I told you.Ó
Ò‘She didn’t seem like a threat at the time.’Ó  Inuyasha repeated in a feminine voice.  ÒThen why the fuck didn’t you tell me some time during all those years?  Or did it slip your mind.  Did you never think that Lucy could be a threat?  What, its okay to trust a woman who is Narek’s master?  How could you trust anyone related to him?Ó
Kagome flinched.  There was no way to answer that.  What he said was true.  It was stupid to think that Lucy would never threaten her and now she knew it.
ÒNice to know I’ve been mated to a dishonest woman for ten years.Ó  Inuyasha slammed his fist against the wall.  ÒSo much for starting over with a clean slate.Ó  He sneered.
ÒYou were no saint either.Ó She muttered.
ÒWhat was that?Ó  Inuyasha snapped.
Kagome looked down and didn’t reply.  ÒIf you have something to say, say it.  Since we’re all about sharing secrets today, why not go ahead?Ó
She looked up at him, her cheeks red, her teeth clenched. ÒEnough!  Please!Ó
Inuyasha went on as though he couldn’t stop himself.  ÒWhat, did you secretly have a boyfriend over the last ten years too?Ó  He snarled, stepping toward her and looming over her like a shadow of rebuke.  Pain and guilt collided inside Kagome at his words, making her want to defend and retreat.
ÒIs there anything else that you’ve been keeping from me that I should know?Ó
Kagome brought her hands up in front of her, as though it would help protect her from his assault.  ÒStop it.Ó  Her heart was beating fast, her feelings of regret contorting disgustingly into anger at his words.
ÒIt must be nice, throwing your trust around to the wrong people without thinking about how the right people might be hurt because of it.  Wonderful sincerity Kagome.Ó
ÒLike you were honest ten years ago? Back when you kidnapped me, used me, and didn’t tell me what was really going on?Ó  Kagome snapped without thinking.
Inuyasha stepped away from her, a look of pain flickering across his face for the briefest moment that Kagome wondered if she really saw it.  But then he stiffened, holding his shaking fists to his sides.  ÒOh you would stoop that low, wouldn’t you?Ó
ÒAnd you haven’t?Ó  Kagome pointed at him and waved her arm as though gesturing to every invisible word he had just said.
Inuyasha looked as though he wanted to rush forward and hit her because he brought his arm up, but instead, he slammed his hand against the nearest breakable thing, which happened to be a picture frame on the wall.  Kagome winced as the glass shattered and the frame fell to the floor.  ÒYou don’t think I haven’t tried being more honest?Ó  Inuyasha shouted.  ÒI made an effort to change; I promised I would do that for you!  And how do you return the favor?  You lie to me for ten years?  Real nice of you Kagome, you say you want to start over, no more secrets and all that shit, and yet you turn around and don’t tell me there was a possible danger hounding you for ten fucking years?  Great double standard there, good for you.Ó
ÒIt’s not the same!Ó  Kagome yelled.
ÒOh really?Ó
ÒYes, really!  Would have really let me be free if you knew there was a possible danger?  No, don’t you dare say anything!Ó  She added when he opened his mouth to reply.  ÒTell me honestly, would have let me go, if I had told you about Lucy?Ó
Inuyasha jerked nervously, but then spat at her with just as much vehemence as she had given him.  ÒI would have at least waited to find out if she weren’t a threat!  I wouldn’t have assumed right off the fucking bat that she never would be any danger, unlike someone
ÒThat’s a lie and you know it!  You and the family would have kept me locked away until you were sure there was no danger, and even then you would have kept a close eye on me! I had to live my life!  The life you broke into and complicated because you couldn’t leave well enough alone!  I wanted my freedom, that’s why I was afraid to ask!  And what about you huh?  Did you ever think about how painful it was for me to be ripped out of my world and thrown into danger at every turn, and not be told what was going on?Ó
ÒGee, it doesn’t sound that fucking different from what’s happening now does it.  Maybe if you had the sense to fucking tell me about Lucy, I could have helped prevented this whole mess from happening!Ó
ÒWell, now you know how it feels.Ó  Kagome hissed.  ÒNot nice is it.Ó
ÒNo, it’s not fucking nice.Ó  He grabbed her shoulders, shaking her.  ÒAnd here I was hoping we really did have the last ten years fixing our mistakes.  Fuck was I wrong.  Good to know that you’ve been holding all that against me.Ó
ÒThat’s not true!Ó
ÒIt isn’t?Ó  He shook her again.  ÒThen all that shit you just said was a fucking complement?Ó
ÒYou didn’t give me any time to explain myself!  You kept-Ó
ÒWhat’s there to explain?Ó  His hands tightened around her shoulders, his claws digging into her skin.  ÒYou just said everything loud and clear.  I’m sorry I’m not the perfect prince you wanted me to be, but now I’m even more sorry that the woman I mated, who told me we could make it work, is really a lair.Ó
Kagome couldn’t take it anymore.  All the hurt, guilt, anger and regret welled up in her till it just burst and she drew her hand back and smacked him hard across the face.  Surprised, he let her go and before he could even react, Kagome fled down the stairs and locked herself in the study.
ÒYou bastard.Ó
