Chapter 3- Not an Illusion
Miroku, Sango, Shippo and Kilala stood dumbfounded at the scene they were witnessing. `Kagome and Inuyasha?' Sango was utterly confused. Miroku raised his finger towards his lips and motioned for them to be quiet, "Shh, let us depart and leave Kagome and Inuyasha to handle this on their own." The three nodded and followed Miroku to a small clearing a couple of feet away form the campsite. Miroku took a seat under a large, tall oak tree. Sango sat opposite of him with Shippo and Kilala by her side. "I'm worried about Kagome. Are you sure we should have left them alone?" asked Sango. Shippo let out an exasperated sigh, `Don't mess this with Kagome again Inuyasha.' Sango edged closer to Miroku and sent off Kilala and Shippo to find some berried for breakfast. "Are you sure Kagome is going to be ok? She did wake up screaming" she pointed out. Miroku looked at Sango with concern in his eyes, "I hope so my dear Sango, but this is still a matter between Lady Kagome and Inuyasha. We can't interfere and knowing Inuyasha he won't bother talking about it in front of us." Sango nodded in understanding and waited with Miroku for Shippo and Kilala to come back with their breakfast.

Kagome stopped her screaming when she saw Inuyasha's ears flatten against his head. However, she didn't avert her gaze away from his amber eyes. She couldn't believe this was happening, `I woke up in Inuyasha's arms. Oh gods, I'm still sitting on his lap!' Kagome felt a surge of heat flush to her cheeks, but she still didn't move. `I feel as though I'm under a trance. I can't, no, I don't want to move.'
Inuyasha stared back at Kagome's warm, love-filled eyes. He couldn't move; he was too focused on her. Her scent intoxicated him. He felt like burying his head into her hair and inhale her scent until he was drunk was with ecstasy. Inuyasha couldn't breathe, his thoughts were overwhelming him. He needed to get away from Kagome, fast, but he couldn't. He couldn't tear away from Kagome's beautiful eyes.
Kagome hoped this wasn't another nightmare. She didn't want Kikyo to show up and spoil everything. She wouldn't be able to take another nightmare like the one she had last night. `Please don't let this be an illusion. Let this be real.' Kagome let go of her death grip on Inuyasha's red hoari and slowly brought her hand up to the side of his face. She placed her palm on the curve of his cheek. `Oh gods, this isn't and illusion!'
Inuyasha's cheek felt as though it was on fire. Her touch sent electricity as strong as fire bolts searing through his veins. His heart began to pound faster and harder like a series of tribal drums calling out warnings. `Not even Kikyo had this effect on me. Why does Kagome have such an intense effect on me?' Inuyasha shook his thoughts from his mind and let his instincts guide him. He nuzzled his face into Kagome's palm. He began to move his head much like a cat would if you were petting it. Kagome's eyes widened in shock. `He's nuzzling into my hand. It's not like him to do that.' That thought broke the trance-like state. `This is wrong! Inuyasha doesn't love me. He's thinking about Kikyo.' Kagome roughly pulled her hand away from Inuyasha's cheek. Tears stung her eyes, `No, I'm not going to cry.' Kagome pulled herself away from Inuyasha's arms and pushed herself up from his lap. She walked away from without looking back and began to clear up the campsite. Inuyasha sat there, under the tree, legs crossed and both arms hidden in his hoari. He turned his face away from Kagome's retreating back so she wouldn't see her actions had hurt him, "Feh!" Kagome winced at hearing the word, `He doesn't even care.' Her hair tumbled over her shoulders and her bangs kept her eyes covered, `He doesn't care about me.' The tears she fought so hard to hold back flowed freely down her face.

Their curiosity had gotten the better of them. They had hidden behind a near by bush and saw the entire that had transpired between Kagome and Inuyasha. Sango's heart wept for Kagome. Though no words had been spoken between the hanyou and Kagome, Sango saw the love in Kagome's eyes and she positive that Kagome thought Inuyasha was thinking of Kikyo. `Kagome doesn't deserve this, no matter how much she may love Inuyasha. She doesn't deserve to suffer.' Miroku saw Sango's hazel eyes turn cold as she looked at Inuyasha sitting under the tree acting as though nothing had happened. Miroku's amethyst eyes shone with disappointment. He shook his head showing his agitation with the hanyou, `He'll never learn.' Shippo's eyes were angry. He voiced his opinion, "Inuyasha you baka. You just wait, one day Kagome is going to get tired of this and she'll leave us forever. I'm not going to lose Kagome because of you!" the little kitsune began to sob, "I don't want Kagome to leave us forever because of Inuyasha's stupidity." Sango scooped the little kitsune into her arms and began to rock him, "Shh. Be strong Shippo. It will be ok. Remember, Miroku, Kilala and I are still here with you." Shippo nodded and buried his face into her shoulder taking in to the comfort of her words. Thought the situation they were in was bad, Miroku couldn't help but think about Sango's actions, "She will make a wonderful mother some day.' Miroku cleared his throat, "I think it's time to head back."
