Chapter 4- Part of a Plan

Kagome winced as she heard Inuyasha brush off what happened between them. Her hair tumbled over her shoulders and her bangs hung over her eyes. The tears she fought so hard not to shed came flowing down her face with vengeance.

Inuyasha was furious. `How can she just walk away from me like that?' The question kept ringing in his ears. `Why does it keep bothering me?' Inuyasha was about to stalk off into the forest until he caught the scent of salt. He turned around facing Kagome's back. `She's crying?' Inuyasha's anger was replaced with guilt. The harness in his eyes softened. `Kagome…' He began to take slow, cautious steps towards Kagome.

Kagome stiffened as she felt a presence behind her. A clawed hand on her shoulder spun her to a 180 degree turn. Kagome lifted her head to find herself face to face with Inuyasha. Her eyes widened and her pink, full lips formed and "O". Inuyasha saw a renegade single tear slip from one of her honey-brown orbs. He lifted his right hand from her shoulder and tenderly brushed it away. She felt her knees go weak and her stomach felt as though it did a series of back flips. "Don't cry Kagome" he whispered. Kagome was speechless. She only nodded in response, but couldn't help the new tears of joy forming behind her eyes. `He does care about me.' Kagome's heart felt lighter and she knew she was falling deeper in love with Inuyasha. Her glossy eyes met Inuyasha's tender-filled amber eyes. `I wish I could tell him, but I can't. I know his heart belongs to Kikyo, but I am always going to be here for you Inuyasha. I want you to be happy, even if it's not with me.'

Inuyasha stared back into Kagome's breathtaking eyes. `Her eyes are beautiful.' Inuyasha leaned down closer to Kagome. Their faces were mere inches apart, "Kagome…." He closed his eyelids and descended further down to Kagome's lips to seal off the space between them.

Kagome's breathe was caught in her throat. No thoughts formulated in her mind. Inuyasha's lips came closer to hers. Her eyes fluttered shut and she was crazy with anticipation. Her breathe was ragged as she felt Inuyasha's warm breathe on her face. "Inuyasha, Lady Kagome!" someone yelled from a far distance.

Inuyasha's ears perked up at the sound of the familiar voice. He opened his eyes and saw Kagome's face. Her eyes were closed as though she was waiting for something. He felt heat rush to his cheeks. Footsteps were edging closer as far as his hearing was concerned, but he knew the person was still a good distance away. An impulse raged through Inuyasha's blood. His eyelids drooped again and he made his way down towards Kagome's lips. His lips came in contact with hers. He lightly brushed his lips against hers. "Inuyasha, Lady Kagome!" cam Miroku's voice again. Inuyasha stepped away from Kagome as quick as lightening and turned his back to her. The blush creeping up his face was making him as red as his hoari.

Kagome opened her eyes when she felt Inuyasha's soft, warm lips depart from hers. She absently traced her lips with her forefinger. `Gods, I've never been kissed by a boy before.' Kagome looked at Inuyasha's back. `Had he meant it for it to be a kiss?' when she realized Inuyasha wasn't going to turn around, she couldn't help but smile at his actions and her school girl antics. She walked towards Inuyasha and stood behind him. She placed her delicate hand on his right shoulder. "Inuyasha…' she whispered to him. Inuyasha could feel the warmth spreading all over his body. He knew hearing his name coming from her lips made him feel that way. `Kagome' he thought. He inhaled her sakura blossom scent.

"Inuyasha, please turn around." Inuyasha gulped and turned around to face her. His golden depths shone some hidden emotion Kagome couldn't figure out. As she looked back at him, her eyes betrayed her. Inuyasha saw the love and compassion in her eyes, love he never knew she had for him.

"Inuyasha, lady Kagome, how are you two this morning?" asked Miroku, as Shippo, Sango and Kilala made their way with to the camp. As soon as Shippo saw Kagome he jumped off Sango's shoulder and pounced into Kagome's stomach. He knocked Kagome away from Inuyasha and almost off her feet. "Kagome I was so worried about you" Shippo wailed. Kagome looked away from Inuyasha and looked down at Shippo's emerald orbs. "I'm fine Shippo. There's no need to worry." Kagome smiled as Shippo climbed onto her shoulder. He gave her a kiss on the cheek affectionately. `Please don't leave Kagome' he thought to himself. "Oh, Shippo you're adorable." Kagome picked him up and hugged him affectionately in return. Shippo blushed as Kagome encircled her arms around his small frame. "I'll always be here for you Shippo, and everyone else. I won't leave you alone" she said. Shippo's blush deepened, `Can Kagome read minds too?' Shippo nodded and sighed in contentment and snuggled closer into Kagome's embrace. She looked up from her small bundle to find Miroku and Sango staring at her. "What's wrong?" she asked. Sango approached Kagome, "Are you sure your alright Kagome?" Sango eyes Inuyasha suspiciously. Kagome nodded her head, "Never better Sango." She looked at Inuyasha and blushed. Miroku saw the glance between Kagome and Inuyasha. `Seems that Inuyasha managed to salvage his relationship with Kagome.' Miroku slapped Inuyasha playfully on the arm, "You old dog." Inuyasha gave Miroku a death glare. Miroku stepped back and sweat dropped, `If looks could kill.' "Come on Inuyasha, lighten up." "Feh. Anyway, where did you four come from? Were Shippo and Kilala there as guards to guard you Sango?" Sango reddened and waved that notion away with her hand as she spoke, "No, no, it's not like that. We woke up early to make sure no demons were around." Kagome's mouth opened in embarrassment, "Umm, you didn't happen to see anything did you?" Inuyasha and Kagome exchanged nervous glances before turning away from each other. "Don't worry Kagome, We didn't see anything because we took a route away from where you were sleeping, we didn't want to wake you up." Sango said before Miroku had a chance to speak. Sango smiled as she visibly saw both Inuyasha and Kagome relax.

"Thank you Kanna. You can leave now." Kanna nodded and left Naraku alone in the candle light room. `So it seems the hanyou and the reincarnation of Kikyo have a physical attraction.' An evil smirk spread across his hauntingly handsome face. `The hanyou and Kikyo's reincarnation. I can see why the hanyou is attracted to her, yet he doesn't realize she is not Kikyo. Her beauty and purity far surpasses that of Kikyo. Yes this girl, Kagome, will come in handy." Malicious laughing could be heard through out Naraku's castle.
